Taking Advantage

Does anyone else feel we aren't taking advantage of our situation in the transfer market?
This is one of the strongest positions Everton have been in for years with European football guarenteed and players like Cahill and Arteta signing long term deals so why aren't we taking advantage of it in the transfer market and signing quality. Yes Jagielka is a good signing but when you look at Spurs buyin Bent and Villa gettin Reo-Cocker and you also have the like of Blackburn and Boro signing younger quality players and Newcastle making good signings aswell as Bolton I feel like we should be.
We finished above all of them teams apart from Spurs and we have got European Football so why aren't we taking advantage of that. We are bigger and better than these clubs so why can't we go an sign some big named quality players. I know Moysey has done well getting players in like Lescott, Arteta and Cahill on the cheap and they have become great but it would be nice to see us sign a big named player like Riquelme or Saviola. If we want to move on to the next level this is what we have to be doing. Anyone else agree?
Even though I say all that I do believe Moysey will come good. So forget the stadium talk beacuse we need to spend money on building a squad that is guarenteed European Football every season then we can get a new stadium and will fill it week in week out.
COYB!

I’ve never heard of most of them!
I’d rather we kept our money for players that will definitely add to the squad rather than spending for spending’s sake.

I remember this very time 10 years ago in the Summer of 1997, or indeed just before Royle was sacked while the likes of Ravanelli, and many other top names were being snapped up, Joe was busy renewing interests in Dean Holdsworth and such also-rans of that time. Of course the "will they? won't they?" long-running saga of the staduim fiasco would be a negative influence for any interested parties. Of course it is positive that we are finishing in the top six (albeit on a one good season, one shit season basis). So, with that in mind, should we be looking at a twelfth place finish this time around?
Incidentally, I ran into a certain Tony Cottee not so long ago and he said candidly that, with hindsight, he should have joined Arsenal instead in the summer of 1988. Think of the contrast in success of the two sides in the subsequent years of that decision... You can say what you like but the bottom line is it is out of the realms of possibility that this club ? not side ? cannot envisage winning the league title in the next 25 years. Time for a reality check.

Great talking about it but it will take time and a lot of investment in Everton to change the wage structure to make such signings viable. Just for the record Reo Coker is a very average player- probably worth 4mil tops if transfer fees were not so inflated-Villa have paid well over the odds for a player that could have another stinker of a season. You might argue Jags is worth 2mil in a non inflated market, but Everton have got the better value for money in any case.

I personally think we will sign more players, if the price is right. But looking at the squad as it stands, it is now stronger than last year. If we keep BT, Shandy and Nace we would have kept numbers the same. With Pistone and Wright leaving, and Jags and Lukas Jutkiewicz coming the other way. Don't forget we finished the season strongly without Johnson and without Cahill in the side.
Our young players are coming through strongly. Look out for Boyle, Vidarsson and Anderson to start featuring. As for Vaughan and Anichebe they have just got better and better.
The future is looking alot better than some think. We don't need to buy players to be competetive, just play as a team. A bit more depth is needed to cover for injuries and the coming European campaign, but all we need is a few good squad players to fill in.
