Crazy Summer.

I've kept a low profile so far this summer because (a) I needed a break from football and (b) I simply cannot stand the so-called silly season transfer speculation. Everton fans voicing their opinions on who we should sign, the tabloids linking us with every player going and then the disappointment when it turns out that Moyes wasn't even considering that player.

Everyone complaining that Everton haven't signed anyone and then when Phil Jagielka joins some people are already slagging him off before he's even kicked a ball in a blue shirt.

All season, Naysmith has been labelled deadwood (which he undoubtedly was) but, as soon as Moyes shows him the door, the fans get on his back because the squad is not big enough. To be honest it all does my head in and thats why I have largely avoided this messageboard.

My opinion is just let David Moyes get on with it, let him sign who he wants and then judge him on how well Everton do next season. Same thing happened last season with the fans on Moyes back before the season even started and we ended up in Europe (again). Have the Moyes critics not yet learned never write off David Moyes?

Erm... you're conveniently ignoring the precedent set in the summer of 2004 when Moyes didn't strengthen the squad sufficiently and we crashed and burned out of 3 cup competitions in the space of 60 days and sank like a stone to the bottom of the Premiership. I think it's healthy for the fans to be able their considerable collective opinion while the transfer window is still open.

We went out of those competitions before the ?squad depth? was even tested. Did we really go out because of the SIZE of the squad? Maybe he never ?improved? the squad significantly; maybe the squad quality was enough... but sheer naivety or nerves got the better ? who knows?
But I think its dificult to say we capitulated at such an early stage of the season due to squad ?size?!Thats not to say, of course, a bigger squad would not be called upon at some stage. But the events of a couple of seasons ago, as I remember them, was not, at the time, blamed on squad size.

I don?t think timing had anything to do with the success and failures of the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons. If we?d bought Lescott, AJ, and Howard on deadline day I doubt there?d been much of a difference than us buying them early. The market is inflated. I?m happy to wait for prices to go down as clubs start to realise no one?s biting and they need to get rid of players who don?t want to play for them. To be honest, as suggested, I?m just happy to wait and let the management do their jobs and judge them for it next season.
