To the left, to the left

£6-8m on Smith or Nugent? I wouldn't be upset. But if that's all the money we have left I'd much rather see it spent on left sided players.

There's no point filling the middle of the pitch with quality players if you're going to leave the one side exposed. Look at England! Top players right throughout the midfield but every game they look completely out of place with no one really wanting to cover that dreaded left side position.

Solutions? I'd be happy to see a young promising player like Baines joining us. Yes we already have Valente, Boyle and Lescott but Valente's injury prone, Boyle's untried and spent all last season injured and Lescott's surely going to spend more time in his favoured position this season? (otherwise why was he given the number 5 shirt instead of number 3?)

Left side of midfield is a tricky one. We have Arteta, Osman and AVM who 'can' play there but one is better in other positions, one has no pace whatsoever and the other is a fat waste of space. As Lyndon's mentioned a few times Moyes's European scouting network looks non-existent, but I'm sure if we looked hard enough there's someone out there with a bit of pace and flair for a decent price?

This is where Richardson fits the bill. All left footed, can play LB as well as LM or L wing and is actually a decent option if the rumours are true that Moyes is interested in him. He had a 6 month spell at WBA a season or so ago and was far and away their best player. Think he would do well for us with regular games and Moyes managing him.

There was a tiny one-sentence comment on the website www.united.no that Man Utd. are considering Evertons £8 mill bid for Richardson and Smith.

Probably bullshit, but I thought I?d stick it out here anyways...
