Andy van der Meyde

I wonder how this lad will do this season. We've all heard stuff in the press recently about his drinking habits and outbursts at D Moyes. However, providing he is fit and injury free I have high hopes for him this season to reproduce the form he showed in Italy and Holland.

This prob is your last chance lad... Good luck1

Personally I think he has had too many "last chances". We are not a club who can afford to have players earning £30k+ a week sitting on the bench or in the reserves.

We need to get rid if we can, even release him for free as long as we can agree the termination fee.

If The Shandy man produces the form he showed in Italy then we will be in trouble. He hardly kicked a ball over there.

Tony was just ahead of me. VDM never played at Inter. Well, about 15 matches a season, mostly as a substitute. They sold him for a reason, you know.

It’s over four years ago when he last played two good matches in a row. Andy needs to get his act together, and I think it will be the best for all parties if he does so at another club. A new environment could provide the right spark for him.

I still have hopes that AvdM can become the genuine wide player that we have needed since kanchelskis & limpar. I know he has had his problems but I wonder what he could be like if he was given five consecutive starts to get his match fitness up to scratch.
I was in Amsterdam when we signed him and on the way to the airport I spoke to my cabbie, who was an Ajax fan, about AvdM and he assured me that given matches he could be a brilliant player for us.
What I find wierd about the whole situation is that everyday on this site I read people complainig about our lack of creativity and width - surely here is the answer. He is a far superior player than baby bentley Richardson or Koumas and I really hope he is given a good meaningful run of games to show off the bucketloads of ability he has.

I cannot disagree more with those who are wanting to give VDM another chance. Is 2 years not enough?
All he has proved in the last 2 years is that he likes to drink, is unfortunate with regard being burgaled and that he really really loves his dog. Oh yes and he can cross a good ball once every 3 or 4 months.
The fact that he (apparently) is really starting to knuckle down and train hard might have something to do with the fact that he quite likes the wage that he is on and does not want to be sold. I will not be surprised when, after the transfer window closes, VDM tweaks a groin or pulls a hammy or gets locked in a nightclub. He is never going to be anything like the player we thought we were buying nor will he ever be.........GET RID!!!

AvdM only gets to play once every 3 or 4 months. When he played againsnt West Ham this season he beat Konchesky for fun - barring Arteta who else in our squad can actually beat his man?

He looks great with his new hair cut. No more of the poncy long hairdo, despite the earing. Added to Beattie that’s two more new signings.
The video interview of him on ETV doesn’t show him in a particulary "energetic" light.

I still hope he’ll come good, but for that, he needs to play a few games on the trot.

Graham, you made me laugh there mate!! ha ha.

Player has got talent & no-one wants to buy him due to problems so Moyes has got two choices. Let him rot on 20/30k a week while he gets himself in a state & makes stupid decisions or get him motivated, try & get him fit to see if he can make some sort of impact. Hopefully with a euro run & a decent cup run we could be playin 55/60 games....if he can produce in some of them. Well played Moyesy, if not at least we tried. His contract his up next year ( i think) later AVdM!!

The only running AVDM will be doing next season is his mouth.

I think he has only had a year to prove himself. He was actually around for most of the season yet Moyes chose not to play him. What chances has he had? In terms of attitude then yes he has pushed. On the pitch when he was actually allowed to play he was one of the best players on the pitch. The only game he was actually quiet was against Reading when Stallone came. I really do hope he proves everyone wrong. He has the ability to go past a fullback and that is what we are going to need especially in europe. I think Moyes’s problem is Van der Meyde’s individualistic play and it was exactly the same with Fernandes. Good skillful players who can change a game yet dont track back and help the team. The fact of the matter is every team needs individual. Ronaldo for example is the main reason why Man utd won the league yet he did not track back and help the team. So yes I would like AvdM to stay.

How many last chances can one player have!! Himself and Beattie are like cats with 9 lives! Altough i think they will both still grace the Goodison turf again next season as the focus has got to be on increasing the squad size rather than reducing it.

VdM is a total wanker-on and off the field. How Moyes didn’t do his homework on this one astounds me.Sooner rid the better!
