Yobo for Defensive Midfield

Comments (8)

Hey, been reading TW for years now and decided to throw my hat into the ring. Am I the only Toffee supporter in India? Seems like that... everybody seems to support Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool (ugh!) and Arsenal.

Anyway, my turn to play Football Manager... Why not play Yobo in defensive midfield? He is strong, tackles well, can run all day, and his distribution can improve. I could see him develop into our own Vieira.

Yobo was tried D-MF a few times, a couple of a years ago, he didn’t excel at all for us back then.

He?s been tried there and was rubbish.

He?s a centre-half, and a pretty good one at that.

Leave well enough alone.

Oh, please Lord, no!. Do you not remember about two seasons ago (amid a particularly dire run of results) that David Moyes had a similar stroke of (non)genius and decided to employ Yobo in the DM position...with disasterous results! I remember I particular incident when Yobo (maybe against Chelsea) with one cleverly diguised cryuff turn managed to take two defenders out and thus presented with an excellent shooting oppurtunity only to proceeded to take out the corner flag with steward in tow. Let?s not get carried away now, he?s a superb defender but not a "Viera" by any stretch of the imagination.

Been there done that not very good. The lad Yobo cut down his mistakes considerably last season and has really settled into his central defensive duties.

Leave the lad where he is comfortable, and let’s keep Carsley as Defensive Midfielder.

I work in Pune, so no you’re not the only Evertonian in India. You may be the only permanent one though.

As for Yobo, it’s a good idea on paper, but when it’s been tried in the past it’s not worked at all.

Ah, You’ve all been so nice. Yobo was shit in midfield, with a capital Bull - his distribution was woeful. As a centre half he’s been a fantastic signing for us. He may be prone to the odd error but that’s because he has belief in his own ability which (like his passes) is sometimes misplaced.

Yobo and Lescott will hopefully be our centre halves for a long time to come, plenty of guile, speed and tenacity between them.

Next Ajay, you’ll be saying Phil Neville will make a good midfielder...

Great to hear about another Toffee in India.
I always thought my family were the only Toffees in India...we have been that for nearly 20 years now.
I live in Vellore(Tamil Nadu) and the rest of my family lives in Manipal(Karnataka)...
I dont like the idea of having Yobo in midfield though

Because apart from Phil Neville he is the worst passer on the team!! Leave him at where he is to tackle and clear the ball!
