Realistic Targets?

Just heard I'm to have a new neighbour here on the Wirral. None other than Mr J Koumas. May mean nothing, he may commute from here to the Midlands anyway... But it may mean something more significant, if you know what I mean. Does anybody else think if he is about to sign that we're setting our sights too low? No offence to the lad but should we not at least be trying to get a higher standard of player if it does turn out that that's what's going on?

This is very much like the Phil Jagielka post.
It’s all about the right type of player and the right type of wages.
We can’t afford megabucks wages - Fact
We can’t afford expensive players -Fact
We need to add to the squad as cheaply as possible - Fact
As long as these players can come in and do a job it’s alright by me. You don’t have to be a "name" to be good in my book.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

If the guy does sign with us and does the job well, that’s all I care about. Big money doesn’t guarantee anything. One arguement I don’t hear being made is that players like Jagielka and Koumas have shown to be good players on less than stellar teams. Isn’t it a reasonable assumption that surrounding a player with better players will improve that player. If the guy has been good with lesser quality players to support him, he will only improve when surrounded with a better team in training and the game.

Brian, I’m not sure Koumas has ever left the Wirral, from what a RS mate of mine told me he’s a Red but we’ve had a few of them over the years annd they’ve done well for us.
Like Steve mentioned in his post, as long as they do the job on the pitch I don’t care if they cost £3.50 or £3.5m.

Shall look forward to his unveiling then Tony - I take it when he scores he does flips then ! Or more likely falls in a mess on the floor ?

Tony, I take it you saw the kipper picture of Henry then being everywhere recently including outside Anfield.
Take your point Tony no-ones signed yet, speculative as it is most people would have gone for Nugent but would Defoe be a positive signing?

Now Defoe, he’s a different matter altogether because I believe he IS a class player, who would be a very very good singing for us..which is why it aint gonna happen *L*

So who are those teams signing Winny that will cause us to be worried-I don’t see any so far? For the record Bent will have a similar dependable season as at Charlton, none of the other players the teams have signed make me think other teams should be quaking in their boots. Improved teams no, increased squad sizes for them ie carp replacing carp and a little bit more on top. From July 1st was the official 1st day contracts could be confirmed and signed off (deals could be agreed before that date just before anyone pipes up!!!)so give it a few more days at least before you right off our chances for ever of it being worth turning up for the fixtures.

Of course we should be aiming higher in terms of players coming to Everton but in case it’s escaped your notice a)We ain’t got the cash
b)Who of note is available and better c)Would they come anyway

This is just a message to Garth Crooks. Believe me Damiem Duff is nowhere near quicker than James Vaughan. Are you simple son. Vaughan is as quick as Johnson. Anichebe is quick but does not know how to use it. Arteta is nippy over short distances yet is not blessed with lighning pace. If you are going to comment on our players then actually watch them. Moyes will most probably bring in Richardson and Koumas. Both are quick players. I like the look of Koumas because he is also skillful Richardson on the other hand has problems getting past his man.

I would love to see us buy Jason Koumas. People seem to underestimate his ability as a footballer. I have heard comments like he is a journeyman but the fact of the matter is this boy has technical ability. Why was he voted the best player in the championship? Ahead of the likes of Nugent. He has a good passing range, pace, skill and a very powerful shot. I hear people questioning his age. At 27 he is now in his prime and ready for the Premiership. I think he is a late bloomer who has now finally realised his potential. I would like to see Koumas in because he offers us vesatility, quality and a winning attitude.

I will seriously cry if we sign Richardson, how can anyone ever consider him to be good? He's so shit its unbelievable.
i cant believe wev gone from hoping to sign fernandes to signing jagielka, koumas and richardson...i think i might just have to top myself so that i can avoid having to watch us play ugly uninspired football for another season.
i dont care if we finish top 6 again...if were not playing attractive football its all pointless. its called the beutiful game for a reason...sadly moyes hasnt got the first clue about the type of football the fans want to see.

Oh dear... Fred Davis has just come out with a classic. No top 6 finish if we don't play beatiful football? Fuck off mate, I don't really care if we play shite all week and finish in a Uefa Cup place. Yeah, play classy football and get beaten (listen to Man City fans under Keegan: "Oh we lost again, but we did some really nice football..."
Three points is all that matters at the end of the day. Could you remember a classy football day at Goodison some time in November come the end of the season? Could you bollocks!

Fair do’s, many people will say that our sights should be set higher than Koumas, but he will do a good job for Everton. I expect many thought the same about Lescott last summer but look how that turned out. As already mentioned he was last years championship player of the year, but has also been named in the PFA divisional team of the year 4 times in 8 years. He scores spectacular goals, can beat players and is a good passer. Give the boy a chance - you might be pleasantly surprised

I remember when Koumas ripped us apart in an FA cup tie. I thought then he was destined for great things. He has in reality struggled at the top level and against top championship sides. I guess from that then he isnt quite good enough for a top 6 premiership side (and certainly not at £5m). I think the house move is a red herring too as it looks more likely he is moving to Wigan. We do however need more creativity in the middle of the park.

Defoe..........Noooooooooooo. Not anywhere near as good as AJ and too similar. Robbie Keane maybe but not Defoe.

What the HELL is Moyes doing? £8M for 2 squad players but we can?t afford the £8M for Fernandes.
My Manure friends taunt me... only 2 of our players could make the Utd side, and 1 of them plays for Benfica!
Fernandes has awesome passing ability, vital european experience, can shoot from anywhere, tackles hard, is fast, has flair and exceptional skill, can hold his own against Man U & Arsenal, would look comfortable at Barcelona or Chelsea, wants to come back, is 21 and will only improve.
Get him on loan for 6 months, £4M in January, £4M end of season.
This should be the main transfer activity of our season... If you doubt him... You Tube him!!

@ Matt Kay: Do you really enjoy watching us play such piss poor football every season? Do you enjoy paying to watch long ball after long ball?
What's the fucking point of getting into Europe if you can't play decent football?Everyone who knows anything about football knows that teams who go into Europe with no technical ability GET RAPED... YES THATS RIGHT... THEY GET HUMPED SENSELESS. Just like we did when we were in Europe two seasons ago.
Same thing will happen this season if we dont get some players with a bit of technical ability.

Totally agree with Jason, don?t any of you people realise Koumas has also been linked with a moneyspinning year or two at Wigan?

I would like to say that if Kuomas goes to Wigan he is just after the cash. What is the point of all that hard work he has done to get recognised so he can play for a better club, then go to Wigan. A footballer's life is short and I am sure any player worth their salt would want to play as high a level as is possible for him. I think Koumas is of this ilk and he will become a blue.
One other thing I would like to point out is that, although we haven't signed many up to now, I do believe we are a club that players want to come to. If you remember a couple of years ago when that shite Parker went to a club to win Honours??? Newcastle and honours don't seem to match. We were connected to a host of players but all would opt for a club with more aspirations.
Well I think things are on the move at Everton and the only way is up... baby!
