Andy van der Meyde

Why oh why haven´t Everton shown Andy Pandy the door yet? It beggars belief in my opinion. Every time I pick up a paper I read about yet another outburst against Moyes on Dutch TV or another pissed-up night out at Albert Dock, followed by the promises of "just let me show you what I can do" and "you haven´t seen the best of me yet" ? not to mention constant injuries, burglaries etc..(admittedly not his fault).

Now the AvdM situation must be one of the most farcical and comical since Slaven Bilic took us to the cleaners. Just what is going on? Does Moyes know something we all don´t? Is the ginger one going to unleash Van der Meyde the "monster" onto the Prem next season to terrorize umwitting defences and bucaneer his way down the wings at Goodison like nobody has done since Kanchelskis?? Or are FC Twente hanging in there to see if we´ll give him away on a free?

Don´t get me wrong, I´d be over the moon if Andy finally came even half-good for us after two bizarre years...

He certainly has the class and skill to beat the defenders.

But I don’t see him doing it in the Prem unless he’s been getting treatment with his drinking problem. And without him being cured I can’t see him being sold either because now every club knows about it.

I can?t believe he?s still with us. He?s an overweight, overpaid, over indulgent primadona. He typfies exactly what is wrong with the modern day footballer.

It?s no wonder Inter Milan let him go on the cheap. We can?t afford to have passengers.

2 years is long enough. Get rid!

Why hasn’t AVDM been shown the door? Thats an easy one to answer. No other club is willing to take the waste of space.

Which club is stupid enough to pay money for a drunken injury-prone waster like AVDM?

So Moyes has two options, let him go on a free now and lose a player and any chance of some money or keep him in the unlikely event he’ll contribute something until his contract runs out.

You would actually be suprised when you see him. He has lost weight and looks a lot fitter. But as you say he can not be trusted to stay fit. Yes he does have the ability but he lacks the workethic and passion to ever make it work. But as he is staying then hopefully he will come good.

When you think about it AVDM vowing to do better is not exactly that big a deal. It would be bloody difficult for the player to do worst.

If he made a few consistant appearances as a substitute that would be classed as doing better. Heck not getting into night club trouble would be a start.

Van Der Meyde has been shown the door on numerous occasions, trouble is he?s usually too pissed to find it hence why he?s still there.

i seen shandy in a few games in the 06/07 season and as far as i have seen in them matches he has played to a everton standard. No one can really say what he is like but i think if you give him 10 games and he does good play him more but if he fails to impress get rid of him.

You cant "show him the door"

he has I think 2 years on his contract doesnt he? at what? 30k a week (1.5m per year). So he isnt going to just walk off from that and go and get a new team as a free agent for say 10k a week... if you were shit at your job but were getting paid lots would you walk away?

Moyes can release him now, but VDM would be entitled to a full pay out of the remainder of his contract 3m sih? (-im speculating with figures but you see my point). So is it better to pay him 3m over two years and hope the slim chance he comes good happens? or give him 3m upfront and say cya?

I’ve actually spoken to him a couple of times as we live nearby, I know he hasn’t done it but he is gifted player and honestly, he is a nice guy who really wants to do well for us - I know he was gutted after his derby red card etc.

Here’s hoping he does the business this season, because there is no doubt if we could get him fit he would be a very useful weapon for us in the right situation.

I remember as recently ago as Euro 2004 Portugal that Van Der Meyde could be one of the stars of the tournament. I can only recall two or three games last term where he had a satisfactory game. I think let him get match fit, put him on the park and give another chance next season. and what is the point of selling him so soon after the purchase? we would not recoup the money we paid for him in the first place. and as for the burglary on his premises. we were unlucky. they could have taken him and left the dog!.

I think if Van Der Meyde proves himself next season then people should all just get off his back. Nobody can fault his performances when he has played. The only two games he was average in where Reading at home and Petobourgh away other than he was one of the best players on the pitch. So I wouldnt say his performances have been bad. I would say he was able to play for most of last season yet Moyes chose not to use him. His behaviour and attitude have been poor but that is only down to not being able to play which shows he is passionate about the game. So yes give him another chance because it is not like we are going to make any money of him and it will only depleat our squad even more.

As a lot of people have said, there?s little chance of him going so we?ll have to try and make the best of it. It?s encouraging that he seems fitter and his European experience could be useful for the Uefa Cup. Just got to try and keep him a) Fit and b) Away from the bars & clubs.

I bet Moyes wishes he?d spent the money on Aaron Lennon ? he?d have have had a million left over! Of course, that shows, perhaps, that the ?new policy? of buying younger up and coming players is a lesson of experiene that Davey has learnt from....

Andy van der Meyde has it in him to be a good player, if injury-free next season. Give him 'til January and then decide; I know he has had 2 years to proove it but I really think this season he will finally show us what a real player he is.

Lets just see how he looks in preseason and hope he doesn’t get injured again. If he is doing the job, which by the looks of it he has gotten himself in very good physical shape, he can be a very valuable part of the team. If not, then we move on with the players we have got.

In response to John Charles comments.

You can show him the door. We can put him on the transfer list and give him away if need be(we’ll be doing that next year anyway so why not save a year’s money on his wages.
I’m sure there’s other suckers out there (e.g. Bolton /newly promoted side) who would be willing to take him on relatively silly wages.;

Just because he seems like a decent bloke and says he cares, does not mean he’s going to play 30+ plus for us nor does it fill me with any coincidence. You’re naive mate. The fact is he doesn’t give a sh*te.

I too have met him several times. Usually p*ssing his life away in Newz bar or the Grosvenor casino.
