Koumas

£5.3 million is the supposed offer wigan have put in for him. Now I really beleive we need creative midfeilders but over £5 million on someone who I would say is on a par with Osman is crazy. At these prices its no wonder we are stuggling to bring in quality.

That said, if he is truely on Moyes's wishlist then once again we should have no problem competing with Wigan for his signature. Problem being it looks increasingly likely that Moyes will get priced out of his top targets unless there is only us interested.

So Wigan have had a bid accepted for Koumas. Where the hell are we, or are Everton so fucking destitute nowadays that even a club like Wigan, WIGAN for Christ's Sake, can blow us out of the water. Koumas would love to sign for us, but no, Everton just sit there while this gem of a player goes elsewhere.

There is no sign of us signing anyone of any class, excitement etc this summer. The Toffeeweb page has'nt changed for about 3 days, such is the lack of news. My club, our club, and sadly Kenwright's club, is a total fucking joke.

I would love to sign for Everton, should they sign me too. When did Moyes ever say that we wanted Koumas, especially for more than £5 Million. How could you call him a gem of a player. He is in his late 20?s and has played all his career, except for one season, in the Championship. And the team that wants him is Wigan. I think if he truely was a gem there would be more than one perennial Championship team who narrowly avoided relegation bidding for him. And Fulham just paid £6 Million for Kamara, is that a failing by Moyes as well?

If stories are to be believed, Koumas had the chance to come here once before and he turned us down, for who? Mighty West Brom! He didn?t exactly set the world alight now, did he? He is a decent Championship player but nowhere near a Premier League player.

We’ve been linked with Koumas since he was a youngster. It’s obvious that the lad has a smattering of talent but not enough to qualify him playing for Everton, or even Wigan for that matter, but then their manager is a no-hoper (sacked within six months, you mark my words).

Makes Fernandes look a veritable bargain eh? ;)

Seriously, I think all our transfer money was spunked on AJ last year, but if there is any left, and if we buy Koumas for >5 million, then serious questions need to be raised (again) about Moyes incessant hanging-on with previous tranfer targets. Like, they were good 3 years ago, but done nothing since, so lets move on rather than be a dog with a bone....

I think that the reason Moyes is not bringing Koumas in is because he has a different midfielder coming in who is better and more creative....... Riquelme :P

So, if Moyes signed Koumas for £5m then he would be criticised for watsing a huge amount of cash on a Championship player with a dodgy attitude.

If Moyes doesn’t sign him then Wigan have snatched him from under Dithering Davey’s noses and if we can’t afford that fee we must be virtually bankrupt and it’s all Bill’s fault.

Who’d run a football club?

Being a Welsh Evertonian, I know both players well and I think Koumas is much better than Osman. He is more skillful and much more powerful.

Although, saying that, £5M is a bit too much so its a tough one to call because we need someone like Koumas.

Koumas is much better than Osman, I think we should get him onboard. Match Wigan & let him decide.

If we we’re going to spend £5.3m on a Championship player who’s hardly set the world alight then surely a few more millions (if we have it !!!) would be better spent of a much younger, technical and brighter talent called Fernandes. But hell if it’s a straight choice between Koumas or Riquelme...

There’s something to said about the squad numbers left open...

I see the apologists are out in force again. Face facts, Koumas is better than what we have. In terms of being able to control a game through possession we are a joke, that is why we got humiliated last time we were in europe. Sooner people stop making excuses and get themselves in the real world and realise this is the going rate for a decent player the better. Moyes and the board need to get their acts together and fast.

I am not sure that the acquisition of Jason Komas at the value of £5.3m is the right move for a player of his ability and age. Whilst there were a number of Evertonians that rejected the possibility of moving for Joe Barton because of his baggage, he is a far better player than Komas. As a local lad to JK he comes with an equal amount of baggage off the field if not more.

David Jones, you honestly think that Koumas is better than anything we have? That is absurd, maybe you should try to watch a game of ours next season and then tell me that Koumas is Better than Arteta. If he was that good he wouldn?t have spent his entire career in a lower league.

?Face facts, Koumas is better than what we have?

I?m sorry, that statement is laughable. Not only is he ?not better than what we have?, he is also nowhere near worth £5.3m.

"Where is Everton?" you ask. Hopefully looking at better players that aren?t going to cost exorbitant prices. And nobody should start giving it the ?You have to pay the going rate? speech, because there reaches a point when you need to be sensible and walk away from incredibly over-priced deals.
Peter Singer
15   Posted 09/07/2007 at 21:26:22

His abilities are better, his attitude is much worse.

He may be worth 5.3m for Wigan as he may be the difference between relegation and a lower-mid table finish. They are in a position where they have to take risks and since their team is not as close-knit as ours, these risks are lower as well.

And what about his wages? We seem to be running a pretty tight wage structure so if he doesn’t want to fit in that, it would be a complete disaster for us to sign him.

David Barks, Blue Lover, please tell me where I said ?Koumas is better than EVERY player we have??? Most people, who I would assume to have a reasonable understanding of football, I would expect to know exactly what I mean. Arteta aside our midfield is EXTREMELY poor in terms of footballing ability and ability toretain possession through good, accurate passing. Cahill, as good and effective as he is, is not at Koumas? level of technical ability. Osman, lol. Carsley?? Neville?? You grasp my point yet?? Arteta aside he is technically superior to any of our current crop of midfielders, therefore I say he is ?better than what we have?. You boys will probably come back and tell me we don?t lack creativity, class or guile though and that Jagielka is a better bet than that lazy Fernandes for a midfield berth though hey?? Koumas wouldn?t be my first pick but he is a very usefl player and better than what we have. If anyone can suggest better for less then I?m all ears.

A friend of ours who played for Tranmere and now works for them told us the other year Koumas was meant to meet Moyes at a hotel or service station to discuss a move... but Koumas stood Moyes up. Basically the lad has always had an attitude and any professional footballer who bevies in Sherlocks in the wild west of Birkenhead is a fucking wretch in my eyes. Believe me, if you have been there, you will know what am saying so count us fortunate.

David Jones, you said "Face facts, Koumas is better than what we have." Those are your words in quotes. Answer me this, if this guy is so technically gifted why the hell has no premiership side ever broke down the door for him. Wigan are a desperate side that know they will struggle to stay up, so they will spend this extra money for an average player. Even Newcastle haven’t bid for him and they seem to go in for anybody. I would argue that he is not technically superior to Osman, bigger maybe but not a great technical player. And Cahill is much more useful than him.

£5 million is alot of money for a player who has only played 10 Premiership games.

During the 04/05 season Koumas only played 10 Premiership games for West Brom, was considered a disappointment and the following season he was shipped out on-loan to Championship side Cardiff.

That season Cardiff finished mid-table and West Brom took Koumas back because they themselves had been relegated to the Championship.

Last season Koumas performed quite well for West Brom, even though they failed to get promoted.

I think Koumas is probably on par with Osman and could be a useful squad player but i cannot imagine David Moyes will pay an inflated £5 million for a squad player.

Thats alot of money and I would rather Moyes attempted to find another amazing bargain like Arteta then spent big on a player who really isn’t anything special.

"I?m a local lad from Liverpool, I suppose a move back to the city would be a dream move for me,"

Any mention of Everton ????? These are Koumas? actual words, which actually seem a back handed dig to me from a confirmed RS supporter. We had cash from the Davies, Kilbane and now Naysmith sales, which more than cover the price paid for Jagielka. It does seem to be forgotten, however, that we have had to pay for Tim Howard. A couple of frees like Flamini and Braatan wouldn?t go amiss, and I think the door may not be shut on a Manny return on loan with a buy option.

I scour the news and sites for snippets like everybody else, but would prefer to see a scoop major surprise signing than get in a war with Wigan, Newcastle, West Ham.

We are Everton, and we have only just turned the corner from the mess agent Johnson and Wally left us in, so until the big bucks come rolling in, we have to continue to cut our cloth accordingly, as much as us fans don?t like it.

Nil Satis Nisi Optimum? Considering TW have put that as a reminder to the mailers is a joke, since TW and some writers do not adhere to it. The balance between the gritty fan who wants a good team has vanished, and idiots who resemble Richard Littlejohn (like Barks, Atress and the other apologists) are ruling this once great site. I personally think Koumas is better than all our midfielders, except Arteta. But this post may get pulled, as the lunatics have taken over the joint! And you only have your say if your an apologist!

Waste of cash, to my mind. West Brom will be laughing all the way to the bank with this and the Fulham £6m for Kamara (did they miss his stint with Pompey??).

If we’re throwing around that kind of money then wonder how much they’d want for Zoltan Gera, a proven Prem performer but with little or no hyperbole around to inflate his price?

Looks like Richardson may be arriving tomorrow, deary me. Get set for a season full of disappointment, typical EFC under Kenwright, one step forward two back. Looks like it will be down to Moyes to try and produce a miracle again. In a perverse way I hope your Newcastle’s, Villa’s and West Ham’s come roaring past us next year, as I expect they might well, for no other reason than some of the apologists might get their heads out of their arses then!! EFC fans have become smalltime accepting garbage like this. Considering new contracts as ’new signings’ and accepting that we can’t compete for players with frigging Wigan!!

Ally,

Write like that and your contributions certainly will get pulled. We opened up the comments process to a wider readership so we could get a broader exchange of views, not all of which anyone is going to agree with. However, we draw the line at name-calling and an inability to tolerate a diversity of viewpoints held by others. Most people are playing along nicely. It’s your choice.

28   Posted 09/07/2007 at 23:35:29

What are you talking about Ally. Tony Marsh doesn’t get a word in on this site does he. Maybe it is just that the majority of Evertonians are staying level headed, believe we have a very good side as it stands, and realize that there is still two months left to sign players before the transfer window closes and fully expect more signings without having to pay way above the value for a player like Koumas. None of us are apologists, as there is nothing to apologize for, unless qualifying for Europe 2 out of 3 years warrants an apology? We believe that Moyes has built a strong, young team who play their hearts out for the Everton jersey. Koumas doesn’t fit that bill to me, but if Everton did decide to sign him I’d support him once he puts on the jersey as well, instead of just constantly slating our team. The shite already do that, we don’t need fans like you doing it as well.

And David Jones, it is really sad that you feel that way. You want your negative thoughts about the team to be correct so much that you actually hope the team fail, instead of hoping that you are wrong and the team go on to do great things.
"I hope your Newcastle?s, Villa?s and West Ham?s come roaring past us next year, as I expect they might well, for no other reason than some of the apologists might get their heads out of their arses then" Unbelievable really.

David Jones,

Cahill, Arteta, Osman and Carsley are all better TEAM players than Koumas. Koumas may well be technically gifted but he is so gifted he had to be shipped out to Cardiff. He had a chance in the premiership and failed big time.

If he is signed by us I would love to be proven wrong and for him to set the world alight and win us everything single handedly. I, along with every Evertonian I know, would never want Everton to fail just so we can be right. I’m sure you actually feel the same and you now regret writing "I hope your Newcastle?s, Villa?s and West Ham?s come roaring past us next year, as I expect they might well, for no other reason than some of the apologists might get their heads out of their arses then!!"

Ste Birkett: Gera is also gifted technically, it’s true. And much better team player than Koumas. There’s only one big problem with the lad: his fitness is nowhere near what Moyes demands from all his players.

He had spent half his youth drinking, sniffing glue and other nasty things and while he’s been clean now for years and managed to become a model professional, drugs have cleatly taken their toll on his body. Sad but true.

33   Posted 10/07/2007 at 08:45:09

I’ve never heard one person spout so much rubbish on this board than David Jones.

If we signed Jason Koumas for over £3M, then it would be time to get rid of Moyes, because he clearly would have lost what has made his reign a relative success. Before we go down that route, we qualified twice for Europe and are the only team in the last 5 years to break into the top 4 - I don’t care what argument you put forward, those facts are proof of improvement, despite the 2 shitty seasons.

I don’t care if you want to call me an apologist, or whatever. But to say that EFC under Kenwright has always taken "one step forward and two steps back" is utter shite, look at the 1st XI and look at the stability of the club.

For just over £5M we should be able to sign a much better class of player. Jason Koumas will never be a success in the Premiership. Why the bloody hell would we want to sign a player who has had one great season in the Championship and only one top-flight team, Everton, has ever seriously been linked with.

He would not improve the first XI and for over £5M, whoever they may be, they had better improve the 1st XI. Otherwise buy 3 up-and-coming youngsters at £2M-a-pop to bulk up the squad and hope that we can make a profit on a few of them.

Jason Koumas, £5M? Bollocks.
