Transfers

It is obvious everyone is getting aggravated by the lack of transfers and to be honest so am I. I continue to see papers saying we are being priced out by other clubs on certain players. Is this true or are the media making it up? I have seen it in most papers and it gets me mad. The transfer targets include the likes of Jagielka, Fernandes, Koumas, Richardson and Smith who are all players with qualities.

What makes me more angry is the way the club keep thinning the squad. We have seen the likes of Naysmith, Davies, Weir, Pistone, Wright, Hughes and Kilbane leave. Yes, they are not the best players in the world but they are squad players. But you just have to look at Spurs to see how damaging a Uefa Cup season can be. Then you hear Moyes saying he hopes we get one or two more in before the start of the season...

Yes, if you look at the squad, we do have 24 players but can you expect the likes of Boyle, Vidarsson, Ruddy and Jutkiewicz to compete at Premier League level? To me, they are players who need to be playing in the reserves or out on loan to develop there game.

I don't blame Moyes for this; I blame the people who are supposed to be supporting him. Where is the money? Where is the takeover? Sure, you can call me a moaner but we were told there would be changes by players and the manager. Since that day, we have brought in one player at £4 million. You just have to look at Phil Neville's comments. He was even worried about the signings...

i do agree with alot of what you are saying, but i firmly believe that our squad performs as it does due to the dressing room and team spirit, and although competition for places is very important, it can work adversly if there is too much competition. For a club like Everton team morale is just as important as the quality of players we have in our squad, and i believe that Moyes has it right in bringing in two or three new faces each season, therefore keeping the core of the team the same.Having a youth player on £1k a week as back up to play once in a blue moon is much better than having a poor "international" on 20k a week.

Its all well and good saying that but we played 42 games last year but this year it could be 60+ now we are in europe.

A team spirit is very important but we need players badly to improve the squad. FACT.

You're right Gavin. I think some fans don?t realise the amount of extra games we could be playing this season. And if we go into it with a small squad, we could be fucking knackered before the season is over.

So that is Nugent and Koumas out of the equation!

At first i was mad, becuase just when we think we are on the verge of a decent signing, it falls away into the rubbish that it probably was in the first place.

But after thinking long and hard about transfers (as we all are) I decided that it is no great loss.

Nugent may have been a great addition to the squad but then again he may have been a waste of money if he does eventually go for the reported 6+m. This is too much and I firmly believe Moyes knows what he is doing and is right to not pay over the odds for players, especially untried at the top level players. Koumas, well part of me thinks he would have the ability in the prem but then part of me thinks, he did nothing when he was there with the baggies so 5.3m is way too much. If we could have got JK at 3m and Nugent at 4m then i would have blamed moyes.

If it turns out Smith, Richardson and Defoe are just rubbish talk and we have not signed anybody else in the next week or so then I will panic, becuse yes, with the season we have coming, we need at least 3 more quality signings, if we do not get this and we finish out of the top 6 and are dumped out of the uefa early doors and as usual reach the 4th round of the CC and the FA Cup then the come this time next year the likes of Arteta, Lescott and Cahill and AJ may be signing another contract......away from goodison!

I would like to suggest that not all the fans are getting aggravated by the lack of transfers. I’m very happy with Jagielka/Jutkiewicz signings and Naysmith/Wright/Pistone leaving. So far so good.

And with seven weeks left before the transfer deadline there’s plenty of time for Moyes to purchase some more players.

Seven weeks to source good players and get the right price. I don’t know what your worried about. In Moyes I trust.

I agree with you.. even if people like Kilbane, Pistone and Naysmith were not first team players.. they were decent enough squad players.. and could have been invaluable during our UEFA cup campaign.. we need three quality signings.. preferably Baines, Richardson and Fernandes.. and maybe more loan signings or free signings just to build the numbers up.

But I have a feeling these youngsters are going to play much more.. Boyle, Vidarsson, Juktiewicz for example. This may be a good plan by Moyes, they could turn prem players by the end of the season.. who knows. Let’s just hope Moyes knows what he’s doing.. and not a repeat of 2005 season.. please!!!!

Conor, i totally agree with you. I don?t go along with fans saying IMWT that there are 7 weeks to go etc. etc.

It is alarming the way the squad has been trimmed, yes Moyes should be praised for getting rid of squad players who might be seen as ?dead wood?, but those squad players need replacing.

It all comes down to being skint. A story is told by Wigan out-bidding us for Koumas.

Fair enough Moyes has his ?valuation? of players, but he should also pay respect to the market rate and we will continually miss out on targets by setting unrealistic targets for players.

Where indeed is the money? Where is the money brought in from the sales of Kilbane and Davies? Where is the new TV money? Did we really spend it all last season?

The simple fact is David Moyes has his own valuation on his tansfer targets and he will not budge.

Clearly Moyes is working under a restricted budget so its vital that he gets absolute value for money.

Rightly or wrongly Moyes will not pay over the odds for average players like Koumas and Nugent.

We should be proud that we have a manager so willing to protect the club. Other managers would be throwing fits complaining they have no money to work with and encouraging the club to get into debt.

Don’t worry about missing out on these players, my view is that for every David Dunn we miss out on there’s a Mikel Arteta, for every Mikael Forssell there’s an Andy Johnson.

Moyes may decide to let Koumas and Nugent go elsewhere but you would be stupid to think he hasn’t got other options lined up.

I see the argument that £5.3m is a silly price for Koumas, and why should we pay more than that for Nugent when he only has a year on his contract. If other clubs want to burn their money that way, then let them. But if we want top players who can improve our squad, we have to be able to compete in a marketplace where huge wads of money are being waved around. So why the absence of any reports that Everton are lining up serious bids for star players ? Who are the names that we’re hoping to bring in instead of Nugent and Koumas ? I’m sure Moyes is doing his best, but we can hardly be blamed for worrying.

Why the hell are we baulking at a price of 6 million for an england under 21 striker who has pace, ability, strength, can head a ball, can take on players fom the half way line (see goal last season ) and will willingly put his balls on the line for his boy hood heroes, shit even if he only scores a handfull of goals for us next season which he WILL, we could then flog him of for 12 million to the goons that like splashing out on overpriced shite, ie portsmouth, to much money, not a clue how to spend it, newcastle, enough said, or tottenham 16 million for bent!!!!!!!! this is getting my goat, look what AJ did for us last season and i would say apart from the lightening pace nuge looks a better all round player, he is a goalscorer, shift man boobs beattie and get nuge in, set up the next england strike pair AJ and nuge, with vaughan jumping off the bench to prove his credentials, may even knock Shrek out of the england team, has he actually done anything in the last 3 years for england! It will really piss me off if p?mouth get nuge and he shows us what we missed, however that seems to be what it is like to be an everton supporter these days.

Moyes is on the verge of putting a squad together that can compete and make us proud once more, but to really turn the corner he has to battle with teams like newc, spurs, pmouth, sunderland, villa christ even WIGAN,( thought they played with an oval ball ) off the pitch as well as on it.
cmon moysey make us great again
pppllllleaaaaasssssseee!!

ps dont even get me started on smith and richardson !!

My problem is that it seems everyone else is shopping at Harrods, and we are shopping at Ppoundstretcher. And Paul, Moyes has probalby got options lined up. But I bet you they are average players who will just bulk the squad up, but won?t add quality to the team.

Wes Bray you claim Nugent has pace, ability, strength and can head a ball, are we talking about the same player?

I watched everyone of the England U21 games this summer and let me tell you Nugent looked very average.

His pace isn’t that impressive because he doesn’t make good enough runs, his strength was decent enough but at times he looked like he couldn’t be bothered to fight and his ability is questionable, certainly Ashley Young and Leroy Lita looked more comfitable on the ball and more dangerous in front of goal.

I have to admit I really rated Nugent from hearing about his match reports and seeing his goal highlights but the U21 games were the first time I actually saw him in action over several games and I was very disappointed.

With all these rumours flying around, I?m wondering if Moyes as put in any bids for players other than the obvious. Nugent - we know enquiries have been made but how many players have we ACTUALLY put in a bid for? I?d guess not many.

I?m in the "worried" camp as the team are in the early stages of pre-season and we all saw what happened when Moyes tries to bring in plays after the pre-season. It?s not funny!

Strangely, I?m not worried about the loss of some of our players as I seem those players as expendable and not adding much value anyway - Richard Wright was simply a liability anyway.

David Jones I agree with Paul Atress, I don’t rate Koumas and Nugent that highly and would be pissed if Moyes spent £11 million on them.

Like Paul I think Moyes has other targets in mind and I urge all the fans to keep off his back and let the man get on with his job.

Paul Atress, I completely agree wth you. The examples you give hit the nail on the head. Do you remember the wailing and nashing of teeth when Moyes didn’t sign Forssell? If we had signed him those same people would now be on here complaining of Moyes’ purchases.

The amazing thing is the amount of people who write that we have missed out on certain players (Koumas for example). Can anyone direct me to any evidence that Everton ever made a bid? As far as I can see we have never made an offer for Koumas et al, so how did we "miss out"?
