He Must Have Been Joking

Comments (14)

On the 16 May 2007 these words were spoken by our illustrious team manager... "We are going to try and be as active as we possibly can (in the summer transfer market...). I think we are an attractive proposition to players who maybe just can't quite get ito the current top four sides. I think they will see plenty to like about Everton. We are an up and coming team, we are enthusiastic and we are knocking on the door and trying to win things if we possibly can in the future."

Not My words. The words of one David Moyes! Just one question, Davie: Who are they? And, more importantly... WHERE are they!? Can anyone else see the funny side?

This certainly seems like an off season of standing still, if not going backwards for us, with regard to other teams expansion and improvement of their squads. Only time will tell, but right now I am certainly disappointed in Moysie, and the board!! I certainly hope our experience and embarrasement of two years ago is not repeated.

Everyone needs to calm down! Its not like the season starts next week. Its only Early July. If we have not signed anyone else by August then maybe we should get a bit twitchy, but relax, there are a lot of tranfers to big clubs taking place at the minute - once these have settled down there will be a lot of players at so called "top four" clubs that will be worried about the amount of football they will be getting next season as a result of these signings and will look to move. Just CALM DOWN for christs sake!!!!

"Everyone needs to calm down! Its not like the season starts next week. Its only Early July"

People were saying that two years ago and looked what happened!

I think we have every reason to be worried. If we struggle for numbers next season then Moyes and the board any have themselves to blame. Everyone knows we need a bigger squad so they have no excuses.

So what’s the problem Neil? He said we’d be as active as we can. He did not say when that activity would come to fruition, who it would involve or what extent "we can" stretched to. He said players who couldn’t quite make it at the top four will be attracted to Everton, so that’d be Smith and Richardson who we know Everton are interested in.

What’s the quote supposed to prove? What about the quote where he said not to expect things to happen quickly this year? Or the quote where he said Fernandes might be a bit out of our price range? Why aren’t these pulled out to illustrate why things are happening as they are. Not saying it’s right or wrong. But this quote proves little other than people will believe what they want to.

we play our first friendlies this weekend ,that is the problem , not too long ago they were praising themselves for getting players in BEFORE pre season starts "as it can take time for new players to gel" Moyes and Irvines words not ours , have a look at how many players we have got rid of in the past 18 months to what we have bought and during that time alls we have heard is how we have a small squad but its good for morale ,well it was not the last time we got in europe and if they dont do something drastic to the squad soon it will be even worse ,even Fulham are spending for fucks sake, imagine Arteta getting injured early! your talking dogs of war football and we should be above that now.

Lad’s,

I look at this site every day and sit and read some of the things that are said, in total disbelief.

We havent played our first pre-season friendly yet and already, some people are predicting 17th place finish like 2 years ago! DO ME A FAVOUR!!!! Even a a mid table finish at best?? again, GET A GRIP!!!

Instead of all harping on about how shit scared you are at the fact we cant sign Nugent over Portsmouth or Koumas over Wigan, why dont you actually sit down, have a cuppa and actually look at the bigger picture.

Nugent wanted to come to us more than any other club but when did Moyes actually say he wanted him??. The only clubs to actually show an interest in him was shitty Wigan and mid-table Portsmouth. I’d never understand us not paying £6m for him if the likes of the Shite, Arsenal, Spurs etc where in for him, but they weren’t! why?? COS HE AINT WORTH THE DOSH and he’s never played in the Prem!! In james Vaughan, we have an 18yr old who is quicker, stronger and better in the air than Nugent. He tackles centre halves instead of getting tackled, he run’s season premier league defenders ragged (ASK JOHN TERRY)and jumps like Big Dunc!

No one on here can tell me that a fully fit James Vaughan, in a full season, would not bang in more goals in the championship than David Nugent, cos he fuckin would! Instead, he’s banging them in, in the prem!! Going by how his season finished, I for 1 cant fucking wait for the new one to start to watch him lash Bramble an Melchiot all over the gaff!

And, while i’m in my seat in the park end, I’d also stick money on it that Leon Osman will outshine Koumas. The only thing Leon Osman doesnt have is Pace, If he did then he’d be in the England squad! But Koumas aint exactly Linford! Osman is another who does it in the Prem week in and week out.

There is no doubting that Koumas has quality, but, to be fair.... he aint worth £5.5m and he wouldnt see Osman on the Bench!

So, instead of all the doom and gloom, look forward to 11th Augsut amd remember that there is still LOADS of time left for Moyes to sign players that will make the squad stronger. There is no way on this earth that he will take us in to Europe having only Signed Jags! NO FUCKING CHANCE! Not after going on about the small squad for so long.

Its frustrating to have no news but we’ve already shown that we do things quietly which maye be better. In Moyes I TRUST!

Finally - Alos remeber that we have just signed Cahill (at least 10 goals a season) and the outstanding Arteta (worth 15 goals a seaosn to any side) for another 5 years! There is probably 95% of the prem who’d pay MASSIVE money for them 2 but they comitted to us for 5 more years! They must know something!

PS. Riquelme will be finished in the Copa America soon so he should be our’s shortly after. JOKE BEFORE YOU ALL START!! hahahaha

COYFB!!! NIL SATIS NISI OPTIMUM!

2 years ago we signed six players in the close season, last season we signed 3. It isn’t the number of signings but the quality of signings that counts. If we sign another 2 decent players before the season starts (and I believe we will) then we will be in a much better position than our last European season. The difference between the team that started against Villereal and the one that will kick off this season is huge.

Basically Moyes said that Everton are going to be as active as possible, which they probably are being. We don’t know what kind of deals are in motion behind the scenes. I have no doubt very hard work is being carried out to bring new faces in but its getting the right deal with is proving difficult. Its not that Moyes and his team are being lazy its just very hard to get good quality players for a decent price.

Moyes also says that he wants players who are maybe not quite good enough for the Top 4 teams. That implies that he’s looking at some quality players, not Championship players who possibly may be able to hack the Premiership. There’s no chance that Man Utd and Chelsea would look at Nugent or Koumas so maybe Moyes isn’t either.

For all we know Moyes could be hard at work attempting to bring in some high quality European players and thats why he didn’t bother with Nugent and Koumas.

Seven weeks people, plenty of time, relax.

Where have you been hiding yourself Dutch?

Brian Waring, I wasn’t hiding, I was just watching from afar, I wasn’t allowed to post because Dutch isn’t my real name.

This new forum (excellent by the way) has alot of people posting using nicknames, so I figure why not me.

Its great to be back.

As another poster cleverly put it, Dutch is Optimism Prime. A cult Toffeeweb figure who hasn’t been posting for awhile, sort of like the anti-Tony Marsh, the ying to his yang.

During the disappointing season where we crashed out of Europe and sunk to the bottom of the Prem, Dutch pretty much stood alone in backing Moyes and trying to raise Toffeeweb morale.

Unfortunately just as Tony Marsh will look for any excuse to slag off the club, Dutch will look for any excuse to praise, mindless optimism can be as annoying as mindless pesimism.

But its still good to have Dutch back and another optimistic view in the ever increasing pesimistic Toffeeweb family.
