It's not that hard

Why does Bill Kenwright pursue the whole Kirkby option when there's so much blatant opposition to it? We can stay at Goodison for a few more years, I think, until a better, more unanimous option is found.

Use the Sky money to build up the squad some more and not screw up this good position we're in. So far we've signed Phil Jagielka. Pretty good signing. Only problem is, look around us:

Portsmouth: David Nugent, John Utaka, Muntari, Distin
Newcastle: Viduka, Barton, Geremi
Villa: Nigel Reo-coker
Liverpool: Fernando Torres
Tottenham: Gareth Bale, Darren Bent
West Ham: Scott Parker, Craig Bellamy

You cannot sit there and honestly tell me that this stadium mess is a higher priority than this upcoming season. I love Moyes, but he and Kenwright need to stop their dithering and get some more quality faces into the squad before the season starts, or else we're going to end up on the wrong end of the table underneath the guys who used the Sky money to their advantage.

I don’t think Reo-Coker is a great signing for Villa. I don’t think Bent and Bale are worth the money Spurs paid for them, how is Darren Bent ever going to justify a fee of 17 millions? He’s not good enough for the Champions League IMHO.

West Ham lost Reo-coker and got Parker in return. Same old same old, but ok, I hold Parker in slightly higher regard than Reo-Coker. And Bellamy came in, but Tevez is leaving them! I think West Ham actually got weaker.

I’m really curious if Torres can live up to the expectations the RS are having of him. He’s a great player, but they expect him to bang in 30 goals a season. He never even hit the 20-goals mark in all these years, and the whole team played to get Torres in scoring chances there. He took all the penalties as well. Don’t get me wrong, Torres is a class player, but somehow I don’t see him score over 15 goals next season. And at that rate, he’s hardly worth the 25 million pounds they payed for him...

I could go on and on, but on the whole, of all the players you mention, I reckon only Distin and maybe Viduka and Geremi are of real added value to their teams. With the addition that I don’t know too much about Utaka and Muntari.

Couldn?t agree more Erik. I pointed this out a couple of weeks ago too. A number of the signings represent mere replacements for players that have left. Others are total unknown quantities. And only a couple actually improve the squad.

Also, Torres is class but will he fit into Liverpool?s "direct" approach?

I?m still confident DM will pick up a couple more signings, not earth shattering ones, but decent players at the right price.

I think and hope we sign Richardson and Smith from Utd, both young English players who should fit in with what Moyes likes in a player. having been schooled by Ferguson they?ll have the right temperament and work ethic thats required. Look at all the aforementioned players - some of them are unknown, some of them with poor characters and some of them ?club hoppers? in my opinion. Moyes has had his fingers burnt in the past and I reckon he?s very astute in transfer market, not rushing in to signings or buying just anyone - he tends to go for player who?ll fit in with the current squad, not just for what they can do on the field. This to my mind makes him a better judge of the players we sign than any of us. Do we have any idea what any of our current players or perspective buys are actually like as human beings? The answer is no in case you were wondering.

None of the players listed will substantially improve the team for which they have signed, with the exception of - dare I say it - Torres. Further, none of them would have improved our starting 11, again with the exception of Torres.

I agree with Bluenose, Moyes is astute in the market. I hope he concentrates on finding a good left-sided midfielder - We have needed one for years.
