Value does not equal quality

Comments (11)

I've just been reaing the Daily Mirror, and to be honest does a player like Kieron Richardson look like a £5.5M quality addition to our squad? (not to mention the add-on in wages???)

I'm sick of too many people on here bemoaning the fact that DM 'dithers' in the transfer market and therefore losees out on signings to other Premier League clubs. Yeah, we lost out on Koumas to the pie eaters, and now we'll lose out on Richardson (just like we lost out on Nugent) but only time will tell if these players really do cut the mustard at EFC.

Too many of my MUFC mates tell me Richardson is poor, but put any player in a team such as them and I'm sure that they won't look too bad, as they'll be carried by the other world class players around them.

Let the Board decide what to do, anyway what the hell can we do to convince them that 'Jonny Foreigner' or 'The next Wayne Rooney' will do what we need to survive and excel next season? I hope I'm right but if I'm not I'll stand in the centre circle with a large chunk of egg hanging off my face. We'll have to wait and see everybody...

Fully agree. Fulham have spent over £14m on Kamara, Davis, Hughes and Baird. Sunderland £13.5m on Richardson, Chopra and Halford. Are you kidding me??????I applaude Moyes for his restraint in the market.

For me it’s the fact that the players idenitfiedto fit the bill at Everton we can’t get. We are being outbid.

So what does that mean? Lower our standards and not improve at all.

It’s a case of can’t spend, won’t spend!

Doesn?t anyone remember that Richardson was outstanding for West Brom that year that he single handedly kept them up?!

Just been talking to a chap here at work at apparantly Mr Richardson is about as gobby as his cousin (BB fame) and he has an attitude to match. maybe a repeat of DM not wanting to upset the dressing room spirit?
Or is it basically Like posted above,
Can’t spend Won’t spend???????

People are completely missing the point about Richardson or Koumas. Saying they aren’t good enough is irrelevant, as it seems like from all of the players in the world - those were the players that DM had singled out to sign, so obviously the manager rates them and his opinion is of more value than ours. The point is that the club cannot bring in the players that the manager wants because they aren’t prepared to pay the market rate. For me, i don’t think that is good enough for my club.

Jesus people...who said the manager had singled out "those" players?? The bloody papers that’s who!! Are we all daft enought to believe even a fraction of what the papers say?
Now we’re arguing over two players that the majority of posters on here DIDN’T WANT.
I’m gonna say it once more...If come kick off day we’ve signed nobody else..then I’ll have a go. Be realistic though, who’s signed for who, that WE would seriously have expected or wanted to play for Everton (within realisitc financial constraints)?

(aimed @colin mc cann)
so you think its best to spend all our meagre pot of euros/sterling on overpriced english talent? i agree that we need to strengthen our current squad but you must also agree that anyone who has an english cap earns the selling club another million or so.
Koumas 5.5 (what ever) mill
Nugent 6.0 (what ever) mill
Chopra 5 mill
Richardson 5 plus mill
this is just to start but add on wages (over maybe 4/5 yrs) and you’re looking at a major outlay.
Moyes has had his fingers burnt before with the foreign signings so i don’t think the wllet holders within goodison are willing to splash the family silver on a whim.
Me? i’d rather wait, theres only 7 weeks to go till the window closes

Spot on Colin, these players are supposedly DM’s top targets which means he believes they can make a difference to the squad despite what a lot of posters think. No matter what, we need more players in the squad, so it remains that ’average’ players cost around £5m so what will we get for our £3-4m? No doubt we will look at them/him and say ’He’s not worth £3m’.

bingo , not only is moyes being perhaps overly stingy with the cash.
not only is he losing out on targets to poor prem teams/rivals , but the quality of his targets are not that mouth watering to say the least!

Yet another post posing the same old questions - does anyone have anything different to say on here?

Nugent is overated at best, he has potential but he’s not as good as he’d have us believe, at least not yet. He was only ever linked with us cos he’ supports Everton and made the link himself. We don’t even need a striker.

Dull.
