The Mail Bag

Reality Check

We have to be realistic, to date DM has taken us to second of our particular pile, i.e. 6th. We may never again challenge for the top trophies in English football. Some say we missed the boat 10 to 15 years ago others argue that the events of Heysel 20 years ago robbed us of the opportunities that now present themselves to the redshite.

BK and the rest of us have to decide whether we want to compete in what is effectively the bottom half of the Premier League or ply our trade in the lower divisions. The latter seems to be the choice because once Wigan, Fulham and West Ham out-spend you, you join the ranks of the never-rans ? not just the also-rans.

Tom Bower the guy who did the expose on Conrad Black has written an excellent book called "Broken Dreams" about the corruption in football, I suggest all those who want to criticise BK should readc this book beforehand. It may change your opinion. Being a BLUE from birth as most of us True Blues are I still hold out that Good will defgeat bad. Its just I have been waiting nearly 60 years for it. Perhaps leaving Goodison will leave behind the bad luck.
