Why Worry?

Comments (5)

So the Echo reports that Alan Stubbs says he can understand the fans' unhappiness about the lack of transfer activity at the club. The article didn't really give us hope about an influx of players in the next few weeks. Stubbs's comments are also backed up by Moyesy's little rant about other clubs spending and how he can't afford to compete. In all honesty, some of the comments coming out of the club in the last couple of days, gives us every right to have a concern about the upcoming season.

The departure of 3 players and presently the acquisition of only one player, gives us a squad of 24 players. This is the smallest squad in the top flight (bar Man City, but Sven says he's buying 10 players). 24 players is a small squad for a team competing in just the Premier League, but the added Uefa Cup competition, we are way out of our depth. Look around the league at the other squads, each team has around 32+ players, not including academy and youth players. Then take a look at our squad, 24 players, 4 of them are youth players who have no real first team experience.

DM's comments about hoping to add one decent signing (does this mean 1 decent player, and 3-4 crap ones to make up numbers?) and the facility to add a couple of loan players. That doesn't really spark confidence for us fans for the future. I don't want to be like the other doom-mongers that have expressed their concerns on this and other websites, but the noises coming out of the club doesn't give us a positive look for the future.

In a comment regarding another article the mail bag, a really good point was brought up regarding other clubs spending. Moyes whined that he cannot compete with irresponsible spending by others, but that is the nature of the game today. This is the biggest league in the World, and if we want to play with the big boys then we should be spending like the big boys. Obviously this isn't Moyes's fault as he doesn't provide the money for the transfers from his own bank account. This problem goes back to the clubs leadership and our lack of funds. This subject is debated time and time again, but this is our real problem and we aren't going to move forward unless there are major changes.

We are told that one of Wyness's jobs is to uncover investment for this great club, and he's working 24/7 doing it. Its been over 3 years now since he has had the CEO position. The results... an undisclosed investment by Rocky's buddy Robert Earl. During those 3 years, how many other clubs have had huge investments, dwarfing anything put into our club? Have we missed the boat or something?

Think about this in terms to an average job. Your given a task which is told to be your main responsibility of your position, that the future of the company rests on your results. Over time your competitors in your industry all make improvements to there products leaving your company in their wake. What would happen to you? You'd be collecting your P45 pretty quickly.

Saying all this, maybe all our negative outlooks might change as Moyesy brings in a couple of exciting signings and a few international stars on loan in the next week or so. And we forgot about all of our worries... well I can dream can't I!

Erm, hate to burst your bubble but take a look at some of the team’s websites. Man Utd have 30 listed first team players but Arsenal only have 25 players with squad numbers and Chelsea list just 24 first team players. If you only count the Liverpool players who you’ve heard of (as they seem to give everyone a number) you also get a similar mid-20s figure. So kindly explain to me why our first team squad numbers are so deficient?

Earl’s money didn’t come into the club, it merely bought Gregg’s shares going directly to the Gregg family leaving BK in majority control with a new silent partner

Re: John Holmes Comment
The other clubs list there first team squads and then have a reserve squad listing as well. Take Chelsea for example, rightly you said that they have a squad of 24 players, but have a reserve squad of 17 other players. This reserve squad is totally seperate to there academy players. This is the same with Man Utd, 30 first team players and a huge reserve team which isn?t connected to the academy. Our First team and reserve squad contains 24 players, thats why we play a ton of academy player during reserve games. Also what you said about Liverpool, how many non Evertonians have heard of Ruddy, Boyle and Vidarsson?
So hope this explains why our team is deficient, and why my bubble is still fully inflated

To a certain extent you’re right Kyle but the point is, that barring extreme circumstances, the reserve teams are reserve teams for a reason and rarely dipped into. They almost exclusively use the first team squad therefore they are using the same number of players as us still.

I think the big difference is apart from our first 11,the rest off the squad are nothing special. So a few injuries to our better players, then we are fucked.
