Macclesfield Town On Setanta?

Comments (51)

Maybe I'm losing it a bit but I could have sworn Setanta Sports were showing the Macclesfield Town game live? In fact I even had a reminder set up on my Sky for the match so I wouldn't forget it was on. I also saw advert for the game while I was watching the channel earlier this week. Am I going mad or have Setanta suddenly cancelled their coverage?

Does anyone know anything about this?

Setanta are broadcasting the entire match but not live. They’re showing it at 7:00pm.

You?re not going mad mate..... I definitely saw that the match was being played live on Setanta. Unfortunately I?m holed up in a hotel for business and can?t get access but I just checked the Setanta schedule online and it still says its supposed to be showing. Good luck.

Yeah it’s on Setanta Ireland. Can’t get it in England on Sky even though I’m subscribed to Setanta. It’s repeated on Setanta 1 at 7.30pm

10 minutes in and they’ve had 2 chances to score and should be 2 up.
The defence is looking pretty dodgy.

Lets get a second and then bring on the Pole for a bir of experience. Why was VDM not on the bench? Would be been an ideal opportunity to give him game time.

As much as you say that Carl, I feel Anichebe has been redundant in the first half and I would replace him with Fellaini. Cahill is too much of a goal threat, and I like how we have been playing in the last few weeks with Cahill up front. The passing game was back after so many games of hoofball for the start of the season.

Pienaar is definitely having a shocker unfortunately. Maybe give Gosling a run? Just a thought.

Can someone tell me what Vic offers us apart from his strength? The lad never looks a goal threat, has no real skill to skip past defenders... when we are covered I?d sell him.

The goal came from a bit of guile from Mikel which unsettled them, and Ossie?s finish was top class. More of that and we?ll be fine. A fresh striker for a winner or two in the last 20 minutes ? but we would be much more comfortable by now if the Big Fella could have been started.

I think that Victor should go out on loan to a Championship club to get some first team experience because at the moment he is just not good enough to start week-in, week-out.

Throw Gosling on for Hibbert, Neville right back... how many times have we gone down the right in the 2nd half? We needed quality in the box and he has hit the first man!!

Hibbert is showing perfectly whilst he’s okay at defending, he cannot cross. Time and time again he’s had acres of space on the edge of the area. Agree with Ste and take him off. Neville is so much better at attacking fullback.

I'd like to use the excuse that Anichebe isn't fully fit. But the truth is he isn't good enough.

Anichebe is shit - end off. He has two attributes, size and power and he doesn't use them. Bambi has a bigger heart than Victor.

Doubt a spell out on loan would make any difference for Anichebe in terms of his ability to be effective at this level for us. I think the fact that he has failed to stand out against 2nd Division opposition today only serves to highlight this. As for Baines, I think he improves our balance and gives us some much needed options out wide. I hope he can be given a decent run in the 1st team.

Can Anichebe technically be called a striker after this performance? Let's be kind to him and say we are playing our solid 4-6-0 formation.

Baines is quality IMO. His overlapping is superb and, although the quality of ball he has put in ain't been the best today, he has caused problems.

A different kind of day of course ? as expected ? which we negotiated well enough in the end (Chelsea, Stoke & City!!! would swap with us today). Ossie and Baines put the miles in with style, and fortunately our solid centre was far too good for them on a banana skin day.

That?s what it needs on Jan 3rd. Job done. Well done lads.

Anichebe will not make it at Everton. He hasn't got the drive and commitment that is required at this level ? as basically Steve Round said in his Evertonian article a month or two back: "It's all up to Victor, it's there if he wants it." ? unfortunately, he doesn?t.

For a 6-ft, 14-stone mountain of a man he doesn?t relish the physical side at all and repeatedly looks to the ref or complains to the bench.

Robert Jones,
Firstly, Setanta are an Irish owned Television channel. Secondly, English football is a huge market to the Irish audience. Thirdly, as Setanta Ireland is a non-UK channel they can show foreign games if they wish. They also show German and Dutch football as well, which local broadcasters cannot. Finally, Setanta Ireland is not a satellite channel as it is free for most TV subscribers here.

So as the licensing of the FA Cup and Premier League does not fall under scrutiny in Ireland, Setanta chose to setup an exclusive channel to win over the Irish punters. As a result, every Saturday afternoon they broadcast a 3pm game from the Premier League and now it seems the FA Cup.

I think Big Vic could learn a lot from Vaughny. Heart, hunger and determination. Even though Vaughny has had appallingly bad luck with injuries and has playing a lot less, if he keeps going with his attitude he could still have a very good career. Vic could end up the exact opposite ? lots of mediocre appearances.

We did alright today. Not a great win but these cup away matches can be very difficult. Our left side did well, Pienaar and Baines played well together. What I didn?t understand was why Moyes didn?t make any changes early on. Anichebe was playing against a team he should be playing for, he was poor. Jutkiewicz should have given been a chance.
