First Transfer!?

Comments (16)

I am sitting at work with a Bristol City fan who tells me he has just read an article on their official site saying Everton have signed defender James Wilson for £500,000.

It goes on to say he is highly rated and faced stiff competition from Tottenham and Arsenal who have already made enquiries for the Wales Under-19 skipper. This is just what the Bristol site states.

I am surprised myself, I didn't think we had a pot to piss in let alone £500,000 to throw at a player who has only been seen play on loan at Brentford for two months!

I’ve just looked at their site and there’s nothing on it.

The story appears under Tuesday’s press talk on the Bristol City site (www.bcfc.co.uk). You have to scroll down quite a bit where a story from Clubcall is reported. How reliable is Clubcall? There is no official BCFC comment of any kind.

I just found the following on the ’Tuesday Press Talk’ section of their site:

Bristol City’s young versatile defender James Wilson looks destined to join Everton in a deal worth £500,000. Everton boss David Moyes is set to win the race for the 19-year-old, ahead of North London giants Arsenal and Tottenham. The Wales U19 captain has attracted attention from the Gunners and Spurs during an impressive loan deal at Brentford, but Moyes is reportedly desperate to push through a deal to land the highly-rated defender. With Lee Trundle already heading out of the exit door to join Leeds on loan, the next Robins player expected to leave is star midfielder Marvin Elliot. The 24-year-old is desperate to test his skills in the Premier League, although Championship leaders Wolves look likely to beat Portsmouth to a £2m deal.

This is like our rumour mill section where they round up the shite from all the rags and websites. And we all know how factual that is!!!

It?s also in the always-reliable (scoff here) Daily Mail:

It is not an official Bristol City article but from a section of the site called Press Talk. There is a link to the story at Club Call

Brett: With all due respect, if you have access to a computer to make your post, you are also able to check out the Bristol City site to see if your chum is talking rot.

In fact it’s kind of the obvious thing to do before making yourself look silly.

Silly post. Try harder next time.

In any case, I’m sick of these purchases of "players for the future" at circa £250k-£1 million, who then *never* get played.

Save up those £250k’s/£500k’s/£1 millions, and buy a player who *will* be a squad player.

My mate who I go the match with is James Wilson?s Dad?s brother-in-law (work that one out) and he told me on Saturday that we had put a bid in before this story broke so I do believe that there is some legs to it.

He even mentioned that Spurs had also been sniffing around him and that fact that he had been outstanding on loan at Brentford.

I had never heard of the lad until our conversation and as I say this was on the way to the match on Saturday afternoon well before it was reported in the Sunday Mirror so I there is definitely something in it.

Steve,
James Wilson?s Dad?s brother-in-law..... hmmm.... that would make your mate James Wilson’s uncle.

Bob?s your uncle is a commonly-used expression known mainly in Britain, Ireland and Commonwealth countries. It is often used immediately following a set of simple instructions and carries roughly the same meaning as the phrase "and there you have it"; for example, "Simply put a piece of ham between two slices of bread, and Bob?s your uncle."

@Jeremy Benson, what a ridiculous comment. To my knowledge we have signed the following young players for fees;

Spencer: £200k, still on our books.

Turner: £250k, We have rejected offers from Sheffield Wednesday and Crystal palace of £500k to £1M.

Gosling: £1.5M, England U19 captain who looks like a future top midfielder.

Jutkiewicz: £700k Reserve team forward who will look to make the grade next season.

Ruddy: £250k, He has looked a good young keeper whenever I?ve seen him who would fetch a sum similar to Turner now.

I find it absolutely stupid why someone would not want us to sign the Welsh Under 19 captain for £500k when in a couple of years he may be worth a heck of a lot more.

Eric,
Don’ think you are right.
James Wilson?s Dad?s brother-in-law could be...
1. James Wilson’s dad’s wife’s brother, means James Wilson’s mother’s brother. That’s uncle.
2. James Wilson’s dad’s sister’s husband, means James Wilson’s aunt’s husband. That’s uncle.
3. Anymore anyone?
