Setanta Bias

Comments (43)

Right first thing first, i thought that was a great performance by a severely under-strength Blues and a draw is a great result all things taken into account. However, my rant is nothing to do with our performance BUT by the most biased commentating I think I have ever heard.

For example.... when Gerrard missed a header..."EVEN SUPERMAN could not reach that one"

Next, when Torres played the ball through to Gerrard for the goal "El NINO... with some great skill" might not be word for word perfect but you get the idea...

Then finally when LIverpool were attacking after their goal: "Gerrard THE LEADER OF MAN" !!!!!!!

Fuck me, I have heard some one-sided commentating but by golly this was something else. Nothing mentioned about Lescott and Jagielka having apparently the best striker in the world in their pocket for pretty much the whole game, or Cahill once again leading a depleted blues to a great result. Forgive my ignorance for not knowing the name of the commentator by I for one will never have any respect for such a biased channel/commentator.

COME ON EVERTON ? LET'S STUFF THEM IN THE REPLAY

Totally agree with you there Chris. What they should do is fuck the commentator off, and just have Craig Burley, at least he gives us credit for what we do.

I?m so glad that I support Everton, how embarrassing would it be having to hold one of them large flags with your manager's face emblazend on it, like some sort of quasi-religious crazed idiot. People wonder how fascisim succeeded in Europe in the 1930s and then I look at the ?Kop? and I totally understand.

I agree, these twats think football is all about the glory hunters, they tend to forget that an integeral part of a team is a good defence! And boy, we?ve got a good defence! .... but as the comentator said, "Cometh the man......... " Stevie G(BH) will soon fear the moment when the man cometh if he gets banged up!!!!

Who gives a fuck. I laughed and I laughed and I laughed. During half-time super-dick McManashit was all like: Oh poor marking this, I can’t understand why that and so on and so on. He was just super-annoyed Everton were ahead. Even after the match, only RS interviews. The fat spanish twat was angry, you could tell.
Did anyone else hear the comment after Gerrard’s goal and Tosser’s assist? I think that Jon Champion or what’s his name came. Didn’t hear from him for a while after that as I think he had to change his undies.
Now let’s finish them off at Goodison.

Oh, yeah, compliments to the team. Great result. Without Mikel, Fellaini and Yakubu/Saha. Joleon MoM. Yobo won’t come into the side if they continue like this (Jags/Joleon/Baines).

Thanks to my ToffeeWeb chums, I watched the game on my computer at 3am here downunder. The link was iraquigoals.com and I could not believe the Setanta bias. I didn?t get the commentator's name but the "expert" was Scott Minto... who!!!!

Apparently they were waiting for the Blues to crumble under the intense pressure and it was only a matter of time before the shite ran away with it. Near the end they praised Jags reluctantly. He should be the first name on the next England teamsheet. What can you say about Jags, Pienaar, Ossie and our Timmy? Roll on the replay.

Craig Burley was just as biased as Champion ? I felt like ringing up. When Pienaar gat fouled, they never even discussed this at half-time, and Champion mentioned that the "Technical guys" have all agreed it was penalty, Burly dimissed it and said "They would wouldn't they!"

Does that mean the Setanta technical guys are all blues or what? If I wasn't getting it for a fiver I would be even more pissed ? ring them up and threaten to cancel and you get it half-price; I haven't paid full price for 18 months since I first took it.

Steve, I think they mentioned that we have our own techinical team who look at the replays, and they thought it was a pen. That’s why Burley said " they would, wouldn’t they " think it was a pen.
To be fair to Burley, everytime I have watched us on Sentanta, including Monday, he does give us a lot of credit.

Never been as proud to be a toffee, great guts and character shown for 90 mins. Tim let in a howler ? very soft goal ? but SUPERMAN scored it so the ball must have been laced in KYPTONITE ? why else would he have been afraid to catch it? He more than made amends with a great save 2 mins later.

I'm Irish but Capello would want sacking if he picks Upson in his squad ahead off Jags or Lescott, what a great partnership developing. Man City will probably bid £110 million tomorrow for both off them. Squad will only get stronger from now on Yobo, Fellaini, Arteta and Saha will hopefully be back for replay.

IT'S A GRAND OLD TEAM TO PLAY FOR...

I don’t care what some people think/say and if i don’t rate them then i’m glad i don’t share their opinion. Burley is a miserable sod but i do think he gave us some credit. Champion is a prize idiot. McManaman does indeed make comments that show he’s not completely turned to the dark side.

All in all was a resolute performance from an incredibly under-strength team again one who had all of their top players on show and in their most effective formation.

With a bit of luck we’ll have a few more options for the replay and will have enough left in us to give Arsenal a going over in midweek. Is the United game now this Saturday...??? If so, i can only see it being a lunchtime kickoff and not on tv any more.

I?ve just read on The Times that Pienaar ?cheekily? tripped himself up for the penalty appeal. The bias shocks me. Couldn?t believe at half time that Cahill got no credit for making the goal. It was all about how shocking their defending was.

I generally think Craig Burley is usually spot on with most of what he says, and he never tends to show bias against anyone. He also appreciates how we play, something that not a lot of other so called "pundits" share the same views on.

Jon Champion has always been know to come out with some wierd things in the commentary box, so he didn?t suprise me with some of the things he said.

The most bias of all though has to be the reds manager himself... Rafa Benitez. In all my time watching Premier League football, I?ve never known another manager to be so bitter and disrespectful to his opponents. I'm seriously beginning to believe that the man actually DOES think it's his teams God-given right to win every match ? unbelievable!!

The fat fucking Spanish waiter, hear him say there was only one team here to win and we (Everton) went there to lose, we played for the draw?! Wanker! End of the day they weren?t good enough to break us down and win and if they didn't have Gerrard they would've struggled to have got owt out of us at all, in my opinion, the way we defended the past 2 games. The fat prick, apart from Gerrard, they've got no-one to pull ?em out of shit, not even Torres!!

The best is when Setanta zooms the camera in on Benitez touching the Liverpool badge in the tunnel and raving on about how it is good luck... two draws ? great luck, haha.

It?s unbelievable that Gerrard on more than one occasion jumps up in the air with no one near him and falls down and gets a free kick. Did anyone see when Torres dived and Neville told him what he thought of him? Absolute class!

I was very disappointed by the Setanta commentary. I was hoping they’d show some commercial nous by getting some ’brand differentiation’ from Sky. But they seem determined to ape Sky in slavish devotion to the Big Four. Foolish....you can’t out-Sky Sky, and there’s no point in trying.

3 Points:
1. The commentary was so appalling that you start to think that the commentators are directed by Liverpool staff who are holding guns to there heads!! Only way to explain it!
2. I thought the mandate for referees was to book players who tried to induce the referee into booking players.
3. The referee... where do I start? well he was even more biased than the kopites, would not give anything to us, and would not book Liverpool players for blatant diving. It got to a point that I thought I was watching Swan Lake.

The commentary was unbelievably biased... You have Maschearno?s blatant dives for example, did they (commentator or twat Burley) have guts to say it how it was? ... course they didn?t. "Not a lot of contact" was how they put it!

Every time Gerrard gets it... even if its by the corner flag or whatever "Steven Gerrrrrrrrrrrard".

Numerous other examples, but it was pathetically biased commentary, even my non-Evertonian family agreed with me.

Followed the game with Justin.TV... the Setanta telecast... can't call Champion and Burley anything other than a couple of brown nosing idiots.

Where do I start??? Ahh yes, the Pienaar stonewalled penalty which they said was not... then everytime SG got it... STEEEEEEVIEEEE GERAAAAAAAAARD... then there was the ignoring of the quality of our goal with only man-marking zone-marking rants.

At half time, Mcwomanawoman and Robber Sniffer were so upset that they were down. When SG scored... they went on for ages about El Nino with his amazing pass (agreed it was... but I didn't drool about it!). Mascherano asking for Cahill off was covered up... this drivel isn't even fit for broadcasting... bloody Setanta.

The Ref... could that bald-eagle have been more biased? Time and time again we were being fouled, especially Pienaar, and he waves play on... SG falls over coz of his over-sized head unbalancing him and that's a foul!

The fat spanish waiter was expectedly pissed after the match ? imagine playing your full strength team (yes Mr Keane, thats what i said!), he manages only a draw, again.... only they were looking to win??? Only they were looking to ruin football with diving, asking for bookings, etc. Stupid waste of space idiot!

The replay will be tough ? don't get me wrong ? but I think that if we play like this... hopefully with Mikey, Fella and Saha, we can beat 'em and shut 'em up for good... COYB

ps: I salute the Blues who were singing "WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED"... you did us proud, lads and ladies

In fairness to Robbie Fowler and Steve McMananaman, they both said that Mascherano should have been booked for trying to get Cahill sent off. Also, I was pissing myself on Monday after the game when all the Liverpool fans Setanta interviewed were Norwegian, Irish etc ... anthing but scouse!

A point on Mascherano and that incident... that pretty much sums up Liverpool (diving, trying to get other players booked, NO CLASS). Everton I believe are summed up by the team spirit and togetherness of the likes of Cahill and Arteta and the resilience and never-say-die attitude of Jags, Hibbo etc.

Proud to be a blue. Ashamed to be associated with ?Liverpool? FC through name.

I agree with Champions commentary being distinctly biased towards Liverpool, but not sure I agree with the McManaman comments.

He did give Everton credit for their display and also made a point of saying that the the local Liverpool lads should be telling Mascherano to cut out that shit as there’s no place for it in the game.

It was also nice to see Gary Speed fighting in the Everton corner again. Now there’s a guy who get gets some undeserved shit when he returns to Goodison.

I tend not to listen to the talking heads on any footy let alone Setanta; however, I switched on about 2 minutes before kick-off just in time for the fabulous rendition of their song. Two full minutes of 3 sides of the ground singing without any commentary whatsoever, at the end Champion could hardly speak he was that choked, first-class prick.

And talking of first-class pricks, what can we say about Rafa, when asked about the RS not learning from Monday's game regarding Cahill, what was his answer? "Well they never learned because Gerrard scored again", Now the interviewer should have said, "Sorry, fat arse, but I never mentioned Everton", but did he, no, he just moved on. His next question should have been, "What time do you stop serving, Senor?"

It wasn’t John Champion, it was Ian Crocker.

I agree though, the level of RS loving was ridiculous but not entirely shocking as it is what I have come to expect.

Bennett was always going to be more liable to being drawn in by the RS than Webb who I thought had an excellent game on Monday.

But can I just say that although we may have had a case with the Pienaar penalty claim, it was too dissimilar to the Ladyboy going down in the box on Monday.

If you’d have given me two 1-1 draws before Monday I’d have snapped your arm off for it, no matter how they came - but the level of performance last night was a concern.

Yes, we had a number of players out, but at least 2 of them won’t be back for some time yet and we can’t expect those lads to keep up that level of work for the rest of the season and not pick up a knock or two...

Time for Gosling, Rodwell and maybe even VDM to step up!

The waiter wants to shut his classless, kopite trap for once, saying we were ?negative?. Well, it?s like this. The only available striker was a teenager (who also went off injured), the most creative player and record signing were both missing too.

Six days ago, Everton had more possession and more shots at goal, today we didn?t. Feel free to swap budgets with Moyes any time, then you can moan, like you also did at Valencia, about not having enough money to spend. (Thick end of £200m he?s had now isn?t it?)

When Benitez sends a team out for a draw and gets it, it?s ?tactical genius?, apparently. Top teams find teams defend against them. The best ones deal with it. He should just be grateful he?s got Gerrard to get him out of jail, rather than himself into it.

Perhaps the FSW needs to ask himself why he played his defensive midfielder till the end instead of replacing him with another forward player.

He hasn?t won a game since he cracked up. Take a day off Rafa, you can?t be a twat every day surely.

Driving down Scottie Road this morning, it was obvious they?d found a body. I prayed it was this repulsive bastard, though the tent they had erected was clearly too small.

I totally agree with this thread. I?m out in Afghanistan and was watching the game through BFBS and couldn?t believe how biased the commentator was. The comment that really got me riled was

"Liverpool are being frustrated by their pesky rivals"

Unbelieveable!! Pesky? Fucking pesky?!! We have more history than any other team in the Premier League, we are the longest member of top-flight English football, we?ve won major trophies throughout our time and we are the sole beacon of light in a dark era of footballing greed, reminding people that this game is still about 11 guys putting on a jersey with pride and honour and running their socks off for their dedicated fans.

Setanta just wanted to portray us as Scooby Doo and his clan........ Bunch of dickheads.

With Arteta, Fellaini, hopefully Saha back and no doubt Riquelme on the books by then as well, we?re going to batter them back at Goodison! ;-)

Could not get a ticket to the game so me and my bessy mate toddled off around to my local Catholic Church club St Benet's. My mate asked, "Is this a mixed club?" meaning blue & red; I answered, "Not sure..." as we are usually at the match supporting the mighty blues and did not know what to expect.

On entering the main room, we where confronted with a sight to behold: rows and rows of pinkies with their shirts on and some in full kit... for fuck's sake, people, get a life ? or better still a ticket for Anfield!!

Worse was to come on entering the Bar. My mate gestured to me ,"Look over there, they have brought flags and banners to the pub!!!" I had to go over and apologise to the pinkies that I did not realise it was a Flag night, as I would have peeled off my Everton sticker from the back of my car and waved it back at them!!!!
