So David Moyes has given up on bringing any players in the window, no real surprise there! However, with the midweek results it seems our dream of European football rests with the FA Cup or Man U winning the League Cup.
The whole team once again ran their socks off tonight (except VA) and we cannot expect them to continue to do so for the rest of the season, especially when suspensions and injuries really start to bite. If the weekend results end up with United and Chelsea wins, the game next week at Goodison will become even harder than it may have been. I hope I'm wrong but it would not be at all suprised if this season petered out into a non-event and all the effort since November is wasted.
Of course I could be wrong and we may be getting a tan under the Wembley arch come the end of May. But that is a gigantic ask for us in normal circumstances, to do it with a depleted strike force and with players performing at full stretch in every game would be remarkable. I also question the value of investing so much money in one midfielder when it is apparent the one thing we do lack is pace.
Thank god that Tim Cahill is a loyal and prodigous talent cos without him, I dread to think were our team would be.

I agree with your appraisal of Vic and Gosling. Did you see Vic just standing next to the Arsenal player prior to passing it to Van weasel. He could have easily have closed him down if he had the passion or the will. I would play Gosling in front of Vic for sure.
And also, I normally don?t like to pick on other Evertonians but I have to have a go at Gary Dos Santos who posted a week or so ago that Tim Cahill was a liability and an embarrasement to the Premier League. How embarrasing.

Down here in Oz Timmy is a god. I’m so pleased he plays for my favourite team. People keep banging on about how small he is(wish I was 5.10), how he isn’t a real striker and isn’t it amazing how he outjumps all these big fellas. Maybe he is just fucking excellent and that any team in the world would love to have him. I wish Davey could find another couple of Tims. Coyb.
If the ever on-going Alan Smith move from the Barcodes is one of the two proposed deals, then the sooner the transfer window slams shut the better.

I?m not entirely sure whether Vic is Premier League quality, but I personally don?t think he?s had a proper run of starts in the 1st team.

We should take pretty much anyone at the moment - Alan Smith would be a great shout as cover for our paper thin squad. Saha cant be relied on to be fit for any prologned period and with no other strikers available all season he’d be a good squad addition. He can play up front or in midfield and has always fitted the Moyes mould.

Without doubt, Tim Cahill at times took Arsenal on himself, if only his workrate, could rub off on some of his teammates. The game at Old Trafford will be a very stern test, without having the added game against the RS on Wed. And with our small squad, really being stretched to the limit, I just hope that fortune smiles on us, injury wise.
We’ve known about our Striker crisis for 2-3 months and we’ve been incapable of getting just a single loan player for backup.

Surey there must have been some money somewhere to buy at least one player. Davey is as loyal a Manager as you can get and I believe Kenwright is a very good con man.

I saw really positive signs last night that we are becoming a force and can seriously threaten that top four in the near future. Taking the strike position aside, (we all know Vic wouldnt be in the team if we had all our options) I felt last night that only little Leon Osman wasnt a top of the prem player.
I love him to bits but he must be the weak link now in that team.
The defence looks comfortable, Baines is a relevation to me, and even though I’m not a Neville fan he seems to add fight and committment at least. Why not just replace Leon with Gosling? May be the ideal next step?

Patty, have to disagree there, Moyes himself said he had only 2 loan targets. He plays a big part in player transfers, the both of them were ill prepared in case these 2 loan tranfers failed to transpire.

Phil - I’ve no idea, I’ve never claimed to know much about EFC’s finances, all I’m trying to say is that Ciaran loves to come on here and lay into those that support Kenwright in any way - he may not be the greatest Chairman in the world, but people only think that because a) they dont want Kirky (me included) and b) he doesnt pump billions of pounds into the club.

I’ve written this before. A friend of mine spoke with Sir Phillip Carter at the Macclesfield cup game. He stated that Kirkby won’t happen unless we find investment. The question was then asked "Any sign of investment?" to which Carter replied "No". Kirkby is dead and therefore is not our only option because it’s not even an option.

Whatever BKs faults (and I believe they have been mentioned occasionally) there arent many current prem owners that I would swap him for - probably Lerner at Villa, possibly Quinn or the guy at Boro but certainly not the jokers at Anfield/West Ham/Portsmouth/Mags/Fulham etc etc and also definitely not Abramovich or Dubai sheiks - I would rather live with our current frustrations and limitations and still have some semblance of a soul than sell out and become a grotesque monster like Chelsea and City

Here’s a very good opportunity for Moyes to give all the kids a go and save us putting the likes of Vic or ADV back on the pitch. Dave lad, It is an opinion. That is for me, Vic is built like a heavyweight but most of the time acts like a little girl. This of course can be coached out of him but unfortunately his terrible touch will take alot longer. I hope he proves me wrong mate, like others have done in the past 30 years.

That’s a particularly hard question James for an Evertonian - as you know we’re up and down..
Today, however is a good day...Last night I watched the first 5 minutes of the game through my fingers..as the boys couldn’t get a touch - Then something strange happened...Pienaar, Arteta, Fella..and to a lesser extent Neville started playing some unfamiliar passing game in the middle of the park - we played like arsenal for the Majority of the rest of the game...the centre halves were immense when needed..and the wing backs delivered superb crosses - and even engaged in the triangles that we were playing in the middle of the park..
Fair enough, we didn’t have much up front from open play - but for the first time in a long while we certainly played free flowing football for nearly the entirety of the match...It was almost like heaven - our fans shouting ’hoof’ at the gooners - what a game...
I agree with the Editor - in that I think we have a very capable team that Moyes sometimes fails to get the best out of - due to his sometimes suspect decision making..and reluctance to accept that the manager has a job to do from the sideline - but i honestly think we’re getting there..
In my opinion we are two players away from a fist VI that could take any team on..those two players for me..would be Dalmat and Manny..replacing Osman and Neville respectfully..

I’d concur with most of that - I too watched the first few minutes with one eye closed, we looked like lost shppe then something amazing happened - we looked like them and they looked like us!
They only had about 2 (very short) spells of pressure in the entire game, and even though we created very few chances, we still appeared to be well on top in terms of the way the game was panning out.
I’d disagree with you on Neville, he’s been a revelation since Arteta moved to the middle, main reason I’d give for this is that Arteta does the fancy stuff (sometimes) and as a result all Neville has to do is ’get in the way’ and pass it simple - things he is pretty effective at.

I would agree that Neville has aquitted himself reasonably well in the last few games - but he?s still very limited and has no pace - there?s no reason why we should not be looking to improve the position.... I simply think a middle trio of Arteta, Fella and Manny - with Manny sitting deep... would be mouthwatering... it?ll not happen though - and I?m in fantasy land but a player of that calibre would not only compliment the clever thinking of Arteta and Fella (which is the embryonic stages of what we saw last night)... but they would also help the development of Fella...

Dave, we do effectively play with wingbacks - both Baines and Hibbert get forward and overlap all the time. I dont mean to be rude, but have you seen our recent games? Both players were forward quite a bit as I’ve just explained.

Ciaran, I said a while ago that I thought you were tactticaly astute and Dave responded that you were as tactically astute as his cat. I still think that you know what you are talking about but must disagree re, Phil Neville. Without him this season we would be one of the teams involved in a relegation battle.

It is sad that Everton can?t even make a loan deal when we need to consolidate our league position. Drawn games will not be enough. Only £5 million for Kevin Nolan and we don?t even have that. We have other benchwarmers wasting their time who could have been used as bait. I like to think of myself as one of the more positive posters on here and I am very much against having a go at any of our players, whether they are called Van der Meyde, Osman, Hibbert or Anichebe. I do however feel that it may be a time to make a change upfront.
Anichebe, contrary to Castillo for instance, has had quite a few chances and as far as I am concerned he for some reason is not up to par. I love Big Vic, as I do all our players, but I feel that in the few minutes Gosling has been fielded he looked hungry and promising.
Maybe I am dreaming and expecting something unrealistic from a teenager, but I do feel he deserves more playing time. I am not sure what we have to lose, because I do feel we are not getting any results with Big Vic.
