So David Moyes has given up on bringing any players in the window, no real surprise there! However, with the midweek results it seems our dream of European football rests with the FA Cup or Man U winning the League Cup.
The whole team once again ran their socks off tonight (except VA) and we cannot expect them to continue to do so for the rest of the season, especially when suspensions and injuries really start to bite. If the weekend results end up with United and Chelsea wins, the game next week at Goodison will become even harder than it may have been. I hope I'm wrong but it would not be at all suprised if this season petered out into a non-event and all the effort since November is wasted.
Of course I could be wrong and we may be getting a tan under the Wembley arch come the end of May. But that is a gigantic ask for us in normal circumstances, to do it with a depleted strike force and with players performing at full stretch in every game would be remarkable. I also question the value of investing so much money in one midfielder when it is apparent the one thing we do lack is pace.
Thank god that Tim Cahill is a loyal and prodigous talent cos without him, I dread to think were our team would be.

And also, I normally don?t like to pick on other Evertonians but I have to have a go at Gary Dos Santos who posted a week or so ago that Tim Cahill was a liability and an embarrasement to the Premier League. How embarrasing.
Three games into the Sky 4 marathon and they have all been 1-1 draws. We looked so much better with Screech & Arteta, I reckon the darkside won’t fancy the replay now.
Am I alone in wondering if VDM might not be a better replacement than Vic?
Seeing as we are so short up front at the minute, this leads me to think that Moyes doesn?t rate him, otherwise he?d be playing. If there was ever a time for him to show us what he can do, now is the time, provided he gets picked.
Re Gosling, he is a midfielder, not a forward.
How we are gonna make it through to the end of the season is anyones guess. Currently, besides the 11 that started vs Arsenal, realistically only Vic, Yobo and Gosling, and maybe Castillo and Rodwell will get any game time. So in effect we only have a squad of 16 to choose from.
With things as they stand, I?d gladly take Alan Smith. But seemingly this has fallen through. So for now, let?s hope Timmy stays fit, otherwise it?ll be Vic to lead the line.
Still cant see us getting anyone in though.
Thank the Lord!
Anichebe is a lazy twát...he saunters towards passes that he could easily get to first - like a drunk..
And whenever he thinks he’s been fouled he stands there like a petulant child with his hands in the air - waiting for a giant mamary gland to descend - so he can suckle on it like the brat he is..
And all done with a thoroughly slappable look on his face.
By the way, Osman and VIc aside...the entire team were amazing tonight..played Arsenal at there own passing game...superb stuff...great to hear our fans shouting ’hoof’ at the opposing players for a change..
Hibbert, my MOTM...superb.
Slow sarcastic clap for Moyes and Kenwright........
Money doesnt grow on trees - if you want a new car and you dont have any money, what do you do? You carry on driving your old one - simple really.
Kenwright has openly admitted he doesnt have any money to spend, and he’s openly admitted he’d love to be able to - he’s also told the world the club is for sale but nobody wants to buy it for so many reasons.
All this talk of kenwright not coughing up the money is daft to my mind - if he had it he’d use it; he doesnt so he cant.
Theres no sensible reason for getting the club into anymore debt for the sake of a player or 2 - after all, we’re still one of the best teams in the division.
I love him to bits but he must be the weak link now in that team.
The defence looks comfortable, Baines is a relevation to me, and even though I’m not a Neville fan he seems to add fight and committment at least. Why not just replace Leon with Gosling? May be the ideal next step?
Although I was gutted at the end, it almost felt like a defeat, I saw definite signs that we are now a consistantly good, solid, prem side.
Well done Mr Moyes!
I’m still clapping......
Sure the clubs been for sale since he bought it..the naivety some fo our fans display in reagrd to this man’s bullshit is astouding at times...
How much money has been pissed up a rope in this moronic Kirkby venture?
The buck stops with Kenwright and his cronies - and no amount sentimental nonsense about his blue credentials or whataboutery about Johnson - will conceal the fact that we are in financial dire straights - and that is solely Kenwrights fault..
Slow clap indeed.
Like I said, money doesnt grow on trees - you always seem to know better Ciaran so lets hear how you would’ve done things differently?
Could you run EFC any better? If there are answers to all the problems the club has, why haven’t you or other people raised them with the club?
You call us naive, but I would suggest that its you who is naive in thinking that Kenwright et al have put the club in its current position deliberately!
EFC has very little money clearly - whats your point?
We can’t expect the same XI to produce performances like that every 3 days for the rest of the season.
well done lads.
and well done paddy power for giving me 14/1 on Cahill 1st scorer!
COYB
How about this one James..
I wouldn’t have bought a club that I profess to love - when I actually knew that I didn’t have the money to do anything with it!
Cue the howls of - what about Johnson!
Perhaps those who use this excuse could remind me where Kenwright was during the Johnson era....Oh that’s right - happily sitting on the board with him - placating everything he did...
That’s my point
Records since start of last season:
With Cahill
PL 35 W 21 D 9 L 5 F 57 A 27 Pts 72 ie challenging for top
Without Cahill
Pl 26 W 8 D 6 L 12 F 29 A 33 Pts 30
ie in a relegation battl
There are many things that Tim Cahill isnt. Amongst the many things that he is: 1 Crucial 2 Ours
Anyone who doesnt appreciate what he brings to us is an idiot
I simply dont agree with you or the way you attack people on here is all I’m saying.
I dont 100% support Kenwright, but I do think he’s done alot of good for the club and that he beleives in what he’s doing is right.
There are no other options than Kirkby, simply put. If there were then they’d be explored.
Profess to love? If you could you’d buy Everton and you know it. I just think you like to attack people on messageboards because it makes you feel important.
Sorry if I’m wrong, but thats how you appear.
He’s just sending out messages to clubs he wants to deal with. 2 targets only? Rubbish, he’ll have many.
As jubilant as this makes me that we’re not moving to Kirkby, I’m equally as depressed by teh fact we’re absolutely skint.
He has no intention of selling he is so far up his own arse its unbelivable.
hE WILL KILL THIS CLUB IF WE LET HIM.
If we can’t even compete with the giants of football that are Hull and Wigan we might as well pack it in now.
There are alot of people at Everton FC that are totally inept.
THEY ARE ALREADY KILLING OUR CLUB
Its hardly news, you knew this weeks ago.
Still it was a good excuse to have a little dig at the current whipping boy.
The fact that the Belfast bulshitter agrees should give you some indication as to how half wittted you post is
The vast majority of owners involved are crooks or vultures so be careful what you wish for - having someone who is (relatively) poor and limited isnt so bad
By playing Vic - one of the youngest pro’s we have - Moyes is "giving one of our Kids a go"
Trouble is, people like you, and clueless Ciaran are trying to destroy him while he’s still a kid
’I dont 100% support Kenwright, but I do think he?s done alot of good for the club and that he beleives in what he?s doing is right.’
So on that rationale Hitler and his final solution must have been a sweet idea because he thought it was right by him so that must have made it ok?
I am sorry that some people cannot realise when they are being screwed. Let’s say for instance an estate agent has had your house up for sale for 7 years and no interest has been shown this would surely raise some suspicions?
’There are no other options than Kirkby, simply put. If there were then they?d be explored.’ Yet another classic, so all options have been explored hey? Unless you are currently on the board at Goodison how do you know this to be true? Quite simply put fella wake up and smell the coffee! Bill Kenwright has taken EFC as far as he can and is looking ’24-7’ if in all that time no one has been interested then I am a monkeys uncle! The fact that there may be no money available is only down to one person and one person alone, this cannot be denied. I am not advocating the club going further into debt to buy a world class striker but if the mistakes of seasons past have not been learned i.e too small a squad, then unfortunately the blame ultimately lies with Kenwright and to a lesser extent Moyes. I hope I am proved wrong and a rabbit is pulled out of the hat but have seen to many false dawns as a Blue! COYB!
When’s you next book coming out?
I hear it’s a weighty tome, all of two pages long and called - ’how to deal with contrary opinions without reasoned argument’
All of two pages long and graced with such modern classics as ’you’re a bullshitter’, ’i go to more games than you’ - and that most memorable of witty favourites - ’my cats got more sense than you’..
Dave, you are a true intellectual..
James,
I haven’t attacked you or anyone else..so stop obfuscating the argument...If you don’t agree with me, then for gods sake provide reasoning - don’t just bandwagon with the vacuous Dave Wilson’s of this world..
"I’d rather be skint at Goodison than rich at Kirkby" - now without bringing the ground debate into things, I’m sorry but what a fucking stupid comment to make.
Get a grip.
On 1st Sept we already knew we would be down to the bare bones come January. Fair do's to Villa, they are a well run club, players with pace, and a Manager who plays to win. We just don't have the squad to compete guys. Too many people say "when everyone is fit" ? when will that day be exactly?
Anyone think this guy is going to come through? Was hailed as a hot prospect a couple of years ago and heard he did well on loan in Scotland last season. Also, I wonder if we have the option to recall him as although he hasnt broken into the first team, any more injuries and he could well be required.
Re Big Vic, if we receive a bid of a couple of million in the summer we should get shot, dont see him making it in the Prem, not enough ability and questionable attitude
Do you not respect my choice in the way I see things? You don't have to agree but to suggest that my thinking is in some way like backing Hitler is nothing short of offensive.
Ciaran ? since you don't attack people, why call Dave vaccuous and make me out to be jumping the bandwagon? I don't want to get involved in an argument between you and him but mate, whether you can see it or not, you do love a good row!
Back to you Brenda ? I actually agree with you on all your other points; of course I don't have any inside info from the board but I, like you and Kenwright, agree that he?s taken the club as far as he can ? this is not news.
I doubt however that there have been many suitors to buy Everton ? we have no world presence, are in the shadow of the RS in that sense, have a small-town mentality, a crappy old ground and play boring football ? now tell me, where's the sense in investing in Everton exactly? The outlay on the new ground alone is enough to put anyone off.
Can you smell that coffee?
Mr Wilson's debating technique is vacuous ? as is more than discernable from his above comments...
However I?d like to talk about Everton James ? not have a pissin contest.
So I?d be grateful if you could keep the comments to football and avoid engaging in pointless ad hominem.
Ciaran - how do you feel about the current state of the club and the squad therein?
Today, however is a good day...Last night I watched the first 5 minutes of the game through my fingers..as the boys couldn’t get a touch - Then something strange happened...Pienaar, Arteta, Fella..and to a lesser extent Neville started playing some unfamiliar passing game in the middle of the park - we played like arsenal for the Majority of the rest of the game...the centre halves were immense when needed..and the wing backs delivered superb crosses - and even engaged in the triangles that we were playing in the middle of the park..
Fair enough, we didn’t have much up front from open play - but for the first time in a long while we certainly played free flowing football for nearly the entirety of the match...It was almost like heaven - our fans shouting ’hoof’ at the gooners - what a game...
I agree with the Editor - in that I think we have a very capable team that Moyes sometimes fails to get the best out of - due to his sometimes suspect decision making..and reluctance to accept that the manager has a job to do from the sideline - but i honestly think we’re getting there..
In my opinion we are two players away from a fist VI that could take any team on..those two players for me..would be Dalmat and Manny..replacing Osman and Neville respectfully..
However, although we may be close - the finances at this club means that it could take two or more seasons before the money is there for two players of this calibre...
In short, we are dong well with what we have - but this club deserves more than what we have. That’s the rub.
They only had about 2 (very short) spells of pressure in the entire game, and even though we created very few chances, we still appeared to be well on top in terms of the way the game was panning out.
I’d disagree with you on Neville, he’s been a revelation since Arteta moved to the middle, main reason I’d give for this is that Arteta does the fancy stuff (sometimes) and as a result all Neville has to do is ’get in the way’ and pass it simple - things he is pretty effective at.
Is there room for Dalmat at Everton? He’s pretty much and out & out winger from what I’ve seen of him, and while he’s a fine player, would he suit our system? Hibbert is doing quite well getting forward and with us playing a 5 man midfield can we afford to employ a true winger?
Manny’s doing well in Spain from what I hear so thats unlikely, though I agree with you, the kids a Rolls Royce and I was gutted we let him slip through our fingers - if we did get the chance to sign him I’d be delighted.
We’re only a couple of players short like you say, but getting them could prove almost impossible.
Not only is there room for Dalmat in place of Osman... Our team needs an out and out winger, and he would fit nicely alongside that trio with pienaar on the other side...
The problem with it taking a year or two to get the two players needed is that if you dont move forward you go backwards - at some stage Lescott or Arteta or Pienaar move on and then its suddenly three or four players that we need.
Throughout our history we’ve been particularly bad (1970 team) or unlucky (heysel, two world wars!) at carpe diem and therefore have spent long periods in the wilderness.
Even with Royle there was a time with Kancho/Speed etc that a couple of good signings could have had us challenging and we know what happened next...
I fear if we dont get those two players we need in time for next season then things could unravel pretty quickly
Superb observation . . . .except Everton dont play with wing backs
’we didnt have much up front"
Thats probably because all the forwards are injured
"I agree with the editior - how sweet - Moyes sometimes fails to get the best out of a capable team"
refresh my memory who assembled this team ???
"A particualarly hard question " ? . . . .evidently
Yes I have watched all our recent games.
And when I see two people discussing how well "our wing backs" are playing I know its time to quit this thread.
Don't let me stop you two though.
I mean, the Argentine side of 1986 were almost solely dependent on him to win the world cup, and without him in their side, would have made little impact. They even nearly repeated the feat in 1990 in Italy.
I hope that Cahill plays in the replay with our excellent neighbours as whenever we play with him in the side we have a real chance to do something. He has come on leaps and bounds (sounds like a kangaroo), since his arrival from Millwall, and from set-pieces he remains a constant danger.
I must be really getting up your nose.
Superb.
Get back to me when you can string a coherent sentence together.
When Tony Hibbert overlaps Neville or Osman in Midfield, gets down into the corner and puts in crosses, what position would you say he’s playing?
Answers on a postcard.
I think you’ll find he’s more interested in attempting to contradict me..than being reasonable..
Any full back who is instructed to do what Baines or Hibbert does could be considered a wing back..Just because we don’t employ the traditional wing back system with 3 central midfielders and a back line of five - doesn’t mean they could not be considered wing backs in substance..
But of course Dave is the oracle of knowledge when it comes to all things Everton and football...or so he thinks.
He’s about as bright as a darkroom.
Ciaran that is, not Robert Mugabi.
I may get a restraining order if you don't stop your puerile stalking.
Ciaran; I?m no expert but I don't think you can get a restraining order for someone having a go at you on a public Internet message board.
Its called grooming. Steve keeps going on about 12 year olds...thinks i’m one...and is no doubt foaming at the mouth.
Steve,
Do you not get the impression that i’m not goint to answer your questions??
If the answer to this is no, then Steve’s not grooming you - unless you want him to.
:)
Anyway i?m being facetious... as entertaining as this is...it?s friday -
COYB... Mancs 0 Everton 2.
Surprise result of the weekend.
Maybe you should show some respect and you might just get it back...
You could of course demand it...and see where that gets you.

I like to think of myself as one of the more positive posters on here and I am very much against having a go at any of our players, whether they are called Van der Meyde, Osman, Hibbert or Anichebe. I do however feel that it may be a time to make a change upfront.
Anichebe, contrary to Castillo for instance, has had quite a few chances and as far as I am concerned he for some reason is not up to par. I love Big Vic, as I do all our players, but I feel that in the few minutes Gosling has been fielded he looked hungry and promising.
Maybe I am dreaming and expecting something unrealistic from a teenager, but I do feel he deserves more playing time. I am not sure what we have to lose, because I do feel we are not getting any results with Big Vic.
