Fiorentina anyone?

Tonight's game is probably the biggest and most important game of our season so far as we realistically cannot win any other silverware. I personally think that we have to go for this game and try to win at all costs within normal time. 6th place in the league is not necessarily going to lead to Uefa Cup football unless there are 'favours' from the teams above us (notably Man Utd in the League Cup).
The point of the post is to compare this game to the Fiorentina Uefa Cup clash and see if anyone is as scared as I am of a repeat of losing on penalties and the psychological effect it could have on our season to the players and management?
I personally see penalties as a realistic outcome for tonight's game given the fact that we have been equally matched with the shite in the last 2 games.
The similarity between this game and the Fiorentina game (ie. nothing else to play for if we are beaten) is evident for all to see. After we lost that game we went on a shocking run of results and performances which would not have been out of place amongst the relegation candidates. Please make sure that this does not happen again lads, stuff those cheating Spanish loving tossers and all will be forgiven...

Definitely some pre-match nerves there, Andrew!
Let's make this the Match Thread for your ongoing comments... David Moyes has named an unchanged side... but no place in the 18 for badboy Victor Anichebe.
OK, guys, this is probably the biggest game we've had since Europe in the 80s.
What do you think the line up should be and why? Should Leon play tonight or is it Gosling? Should Fellaini play his usual game clumsy but effective, or staying out of the ref's book and a complete dud?
For me, he goes all out, risks the book and slaughters the red shite.
Anichebe, big one this. Is this a psychological warfare to do with Moyes and Rafa (if it is, can't you just hear that phone call between Davey and Sir Alex?)
I think our Mr. Moyes is growing up at a fast rate of knots.
Liverpool, you will perish tonight. Why? Because we the fans and everybody else in the country are willing you to lose.
It's that simple. 2-1 we win.
I'd take a 1-0 last-minute winner right now!
Does anyone else get the feeling that these twats are gonna do us on penalties tonight, 'coz they've not done that to us yet?
Anyway, UP THE TOFFEEMEN.......
I have watched the last four games on this feed and it has been excellent: www.iraqgoals.com
Click on top right side of screen, ENGLISH.
This will then show 5 different channels including the password to each channel. It is beeing shown on their channel 5 tonight.
I’m not so sure it is the ’Biggest game since Europe in the 1980s’ It’s just another cup tie in a devalued competition.
Looking at it from a purely financial perspective, we’d gain more money through rising two league places then we would through going all the way to Wembley and winning the trophy.
However, from a sentimental perspective...
I HOPE WE BATTER THEM
COME ON YOU BLUES!!!
Yea, surely the game against Fiorentina last year was bigger, Steaua Bucharest, Villareal, FA Cup Final 1995?
If this wasn’t Liverpool it’d be just another cup tie.
Biggest game we’ve had since europe in the ’80’s?
Lost all credibility - stopped reading your post at that point. Behave.
I reckon this is the biggest game since the last one
It’s the biggest game we’ve got today .... and before you all smack me, that makes it very important! We want to win TODAY!!! There is no tomorrow.
This is the biggest game since Fiorentina. We tied the cunts twice now at analfield, and this game will determine the outcome of this season. I could handle the draw against le arse and the manure loss, but this is the shite! I would give nearly anything to send those fuckers out of the cup today!
This absolutely is akin to the Fiorentina game. Lose on penalties and we are done for the season.
Win this game and kick on from here.
Anyone got a decent link to the game? Would be much appreciated.
FFS Osman in the centre and Arteta in the wing, WTF has Gosling done wrong?
I have a major worry about the bench. With Vic being out, we don't have a forward on the bench

Why do I get the feeling we’ll be down to two men by the end of the match?
Obviously I meant ten men
Gerrard off injured and Torres apparently carrying a slight knock, the games there for the taking!!
COYB!!!!!
I loved David Fairclough’s kickoff line... "Seconds out, it’s round three"... and the first guy TKO’d is Gerrard. Sweet.
Evereton are playing with 9 men. Osman and Fellaini are embarrassing. I dare anyone to defend these two jokers
Getting seriously cheesed off with our two under 10’s on our flanks. They are so out of their depth, my anger has turned to sympathy for them.
Anybody else having trouble picking up the live radio Merseyside feed from the Everton FC TV website?
Osmans been poor overall admittedly but he’s showing some good ability now and then, problem is ’now and then’ isn’t enough
Have we got a midfield out there tonight?
Fellaini’s got to be substituted - he’s losing his head. Otherwise he will be sent off. Fair play to the Ref - he’s doing his best with him
I know Beglin is an ex red but does anyone else think he talks sense and gives a balanced opinion?
Fellaini has been poor tonight. Every touch he’s had it’s gone to a shite player.
I can see us winning this though. The shite without stevie g are looking rather rubbish.
Steve Kay - I thought that earlier too. It actually makes a change though, he’s usually very biassed indeed. I wonder if someone at ITV’s had a word in his ear.
stay down pienaar and lets get gosling on
No, I’d say sub out Fellaini only if he gets a card. He just looks really nervous to me... remember he missed the last two meetings. I think he’ll be fine.
I ’m guessing we’ll see Gosling in the second half. I just hope it’s for Osman instead of Pienaar. Osman looks exhausted. But if Pienaar’s hurt, he’ll have to go 90 regardless.
Anyone listening to the biased exRS Jim Beglin attempting to be impartial on www.itv.com - what an arse.
Well I would’ve definitely taken nil nil at half time with Gerrard off injured!
COYB!
Poor 1st half. Back 5 have done well, but from there forwards there’s not much cause for hope from that 1st half.
Can’t see us finishing with 11 men.
Thought Ossie has had the best of our attacking play......
Disgraceful performance overall. When you consider Gerrards absence and Torres looking rusty so far, there will never be a better chance to beat them. What is so frustrating is that with 2 top players to replace Osman and Fellaini, games like this and Arsenal would be won.
Fellaini?s distribution is woeful, Osman again too lightweight, and the only thing Pienaar has successfully kicked got him a yellow card. Unless the Blue Kangaroo or Joeleon pops up on a set piece I can?t see us creating a chance never mind a goal. Step it up Blues, we won?t do them bastards on penalties.
Thanks,Michael. Just checked on TV and found some obscure channel is actually showing the game. The game has been pure shite in my opinion. Where is our midfield tonight ? Arteta has hardly got near the ball. Osman is pathetic and Fellaini is just dreamily jogging around and kicking people. Defensively also have been caught out a few times but thankfully we havent been made to pay. We have been handed a lifeline with Gerraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaard getting injured and Torres looking like he’d rather be shopping..lets make it count in the 2nd half..Gosling on for Ossie and lets try and finish the game with 11 men, pleez. The commentators are stupid as always. Cant believe that Torres got away with that late challenge yet our guys dont.
Screech needs to improve for us drastically. I am not sure why he is so nervous. Osman is great today as is Hibbo! COYB!
Matthew - First derby, must be intimidating.
Bob - couldn’t do much worse atm
I don think we strung 3 passes together all half - worst I have seen us play for a bit now. Hope Moyes can calm them down and get them playing. Liverpool without Gerrard arnt special but at the moment we look like a Division 1 side getting stuck in but clueless.
Surely the 2nd half has got to be better !!
FFS, we have got to cut out the rash challenges, Wiley has kept his patience tonight, but it must be wearing thin, and I can see a red if we don’t calm down.
Well, Gaz, you got your wish... Gosling’s on stage. Fellaini’s got to be hurt. Come on, kid, show your stuff.
Greetings to Evertonians everywhere!
Just got here, don’t know much match details, just that it is 0-0 at half time ,and apparently it has been a lousy game thus far.
With the red shite up in European action soon, I’m sitting here wearing a Real Madrid shirt, with an Everton one underneath it! Well it is the weather for extra clothes.
A victory tonight would be marvellous, no matter how it arrives. Ok, team not playing well by all accounts, but if we can knock out tonight’s opposition then you will hear no complaints from me.
Sitting here a nervous Evertonian, the rest of the season hangs in the balance, I still remember 1991 like yesterday, so who will be the hero tonight.
A pity about the Anichebe incident, I don’t what was said today, we could of done with him in the side today.
What happens now with our formation??? Will Moyes have the balls to bring on another sub??? Why do i now have to go to school??? AVDM to score the winner(either in pens or open play)
Boys have lost a little shape with Piennar and Felli going off but with the fresh legs on hopefully with Gosling and Rodwell on the pitch that extra energy will tell! COYB!
This is clearly a daft question but why are the pinkies throwing socks on the pitch?
Always go far post!!
It’s the law!
Osman -what a useless prick that boy is. How did he miss that?
Come on lads, it’s there for the taking now!
I have no match to watch, only comments from here and the official Everton website Blueroom thread.
It seems maybe a set piece may be our only way of registering a goal tonight, Van Der Meyde has yet to be introduced, the team is not playing well, it has been a poor game, and my nerves are becoming more frayed by the passing minute.
I would so much love to beat them tonight, not just for obvious reasons, or the heartbreak of 1986 and 1989, but there is little better feeling as an Evertonian than beating that shower of shit. The F.A CUP makes it all the more important. Someone in blue can be a hero tonight.
Our yellows really have to watch it now that Lucas is off - Wiley’ll want to even the score...
Love that Lucas... now they’re 10. Here comes that flopper Mascherano.. how long before he takes a dive in front of Cahill or Arteta and starts flapping his fingers to even it up?
Hello! A red card to the shite?
What is the referee doing?
An impartial referee in a derby game? Surely not.
I just hope he does not level the playing field by giving that shower favourable decisions. It’s getting more nervous by each passing minute. Do not know who was sent off, or how much time is left. Please, someone in blue up there put it in the RS net. We can win tonight.
My moneys on Moyes bringing on Yobo rather than Meyde!!
Keep it steady, pass and movement, they look shagged.. i can feel that now is our time..
COME ON EVERTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If we don’t win this lads, we want fucking shooting. Gerrard off, the shite down to 10 men, Torres carrying an injury.
From an objective point of view, they?ve got nothing left in the last 20 mins. if we dont beat them tonight during this extra time it will be years of misery for us.
Can you hear them fuckers singing the City?s all ours.
One goal will do it. Come on Tony Hibbert I can just see you scoring the winner. Anyone taking bets.
Mike Whittaker... don’t think so... if we don’t score Moyes has to bring on VDM at the end to take one of the penalties.
Damn your psychic powers Mike!
has hibbo been booked twice now?
and there it is, get in there
Dan Gosling!!!! OMG itv you bastards!
A LIVING LEGEND AT 18!!!!!!!
...and set up by the guy from the wilderness.
Un-freaking-believable.
AVDM cross to Gosling come on!!!!!!!
Deserved... They can’t beat us!
Danny Gosling you are my new fucking hero!
WTF were ITV playing at with the breaks before the goal. who would have though vd Meyde to provide the assist and which Scot said you never win anything with kids?!!
YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
get in there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
he is a star in the making
Correction: BLESS YOUR PSYCHIC POWERS MIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can’t fucking believe it! Gosling you beauty!!!!
Does it not make you proud to be an Evertonian?
This lad has done us proud since coming into the team. Good signinig Davey
A game for the ages. We just saw history made, gents.
I thank God for making me an Evertonian.
Of course it does Will! It’s moments like this that define being a blue. I jumped that high I smashed my knee on the radiator coming down
Van Der Meyde... Welcome back. He may of cost us £2 million but that cross was priceless!
Van Der Meyde... Welcome back. He may of cost us £2 million but that cross was priceless!
YYYEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!
p.s. sack fucking ITV. usless twats.
I finished listening to it on EvertonTV and now the Liverpool fans are coming on the phone-in after it moaning about their ’situation’. Fantastic!
Not only did we finish Keane’s career at the shite, they’re now moaning they shouldn’t have sold him!
Well done, Everton. Brilliant goal by Gosling. What a prospect he is.
Congrats to all of us Evertonians worldwide and specially all the team and Moyesy ? you did us proud you blues tonight.
Hope it's the beginning of the end for those evil lizards now.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!! Gosling! Get in Gosling!
You fucking beauty. I can’t remember feeling this good after a game for a long, long time. That was brilliant.
One point of note: can you imagine being a teenager (like Gosling and Rodwell) in that game!? Christ almighty, that really is living the dream.
For anyone that missed the goal:
http://www.rojadirecta.org/foros/viewtopic.php?t=57655
That?s another positive, Rodwell and Gosling looked superb in all fairness, Gosling was making good runs and crosses and the skill on that goal was fantastic. Rodwell looked so assured on the ball and on his passing it?s hard to believe he?s only 17.
Also VDM was worth the £2m + wages just for that cross!!!
Need a goal in the last minute of a Merseyside Derby replay?
Gosling - 118
WTF were ITV playing at with the breaks before the goal? Who would have thought Van der Meyde to provide the assist and which Scot said you never win anything with kids?!!
YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ll bask in the glory of this for the rest of the day. All the redshites at work already don’t want to talk about it.
A hard game with Villa awaits but for now just enjoy the fact that over three games Liverpool couldn’t beat us, while we had no strickers and some of our best players out.
I bet Victor is feeling like a right twat now, Rodwell, Gosling and even Van the Man are are worth 20 of him.
Gutted I missed the goal on ITV, but iI can?t describe my delight when the game came back on.
After all Rafa said last week, he was playing for peno?s at the end, what a muppett!!
I thought I was dreaming when the TV feed came back on. Unbelievable ? and about bloody time!!
Have that Rafa!!
I can't believe the telly... oh well I suppose I?ll have to put uyp with a win instead. As Ozzy osborne would Oay
YEEEEAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love you Jobe xxxxxx
I honestly can’t wait for tomorrow, no one will hear the end of it.
BTW is anyone else looking forward to the usual Rafa rant? :D
Yes WFT?!? But what joy when the game came back on. I couldn?t scream any louder.
It was on the cards at full time that they were there for the taking. What impressed me most was the confidence in such a young soul willing to take the ball off a centre half facing his own goal during such a big game without a care in the world. That was more impressive for me than the goal. This kid needs to be signed up for 10+ years. But hey, "Gosling the legend is born..."
This is better than sex, lads...
Dan Gosling is a fucking legend ? don't ever leave! Tomorrow is going to be an amazing day in school. GET IN THERE HAHAHAHA
LMAO I went on redandwhitekop to see what they thought and they’re all saying the ref was terrible.
And it doesn?t come any sweeter than this! I watched it all with a red too! Ahahaha!!!
Moyes gets lambasted on here often for his substitutions, but they were absolutely inspired tonight. That?s assuming Fellaini wasn?t injured, which I don?t think he was. Fantastic, great match. Great night.
Great result... but what was with the socks getting chucked onto the pitch?
BTW why do they call us the Charlie Uniform November Tangos?
Did anyone see what happened with the Liverpool players after Gosling scored?
Superb performance from the lads. We were really composed for most of the game. I liked the way we patiently played the ball around and tried to wear and break them down. Arteta in particular was excellent pulling the strings. We could have had the goal earlier through Osman and Cahill ? so it was well deserved.
What a fairytale end for Gosling to score from AvdM cross. As said recently, many of us have been critical of DM's subs but I cannot fault him tonight. Bringing on two 18-year-olds and then AvdM for Neville (who played really well I thought) showed the ambition that we all wanted. Glad it paid off.
Just hope we have enough fit bodies and don?t suffer a hangover against Bolton.
Get in there, Everton!!
Well done to Moyes for going for it with using AvdM. More of that in games please.
2 bob ITV... hope BBC get it back soon.
The socks are reference to a slang term for people from Kirkby....
After all the slagging he?s taken recently, I thought Osman played well tonight, especially when moved to a more central role. Baines looked to be exposed as one-footed when going forward but all the back four were heroes. Phil Neville was excellent and, apart from the save Howard made from Riera, they never had a sniff.
COYB
AvdM with a match-winning cross against the shite! All is forgiven!
And Dan Gosling, words fail me...
Happy happy happy
Watching this in my local Norwegian pub with the majority of the Liverpool fanbase present, PRICELESS!
Everton just beat Rest Of The World.
How cool is that?
Rafa Benitez

Alan Green............
ALAN GREEN
Your boys took one HELL of a beating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Andy van der Meyde? Worth every penny.
OK, not quite, but what a night. All about the lads who all did us proud. Rodwell and that Gosling kid looked like they were born to play against the shite.
Perhaps a glass of brandy before the cocoa tonight then.
If anyone fancies earning a tenner plus postage, if you have all 3 games v Liverpool, that's the two at Anfield and tonight's game on tape and want to do me a copy straight to disc then step forward. My email address is bradley_chris@hotmail.com and I live in Birmingham so contact me and we can try and sort something out. Thanks.
Great win tonight, bet Jo was well impressed with his new team mates and the support.
Ghosts were laid to rest tonight and I can't put into words how good I feel. Arteta performed in a big game, Moyes was positive and brave, the youngsters showed they are up to the task and in a game that was beginning to have that familiar Fiorentina feel ? that for all the play and endeavour we would never have our BIG moment ? it decisively swung our way. Jagielka keeps getting better, incredible.
Ghosts laid to rest, stye you could not have put it better....
Absolutely elated, this is what being an Evertonian is all about. I don't know if anyone saw, but on sky sports the headline was, ?Toffees scrape late win?. The bastards, when are they gonna give us credit? We battered them!!
coyb!!
Gutted to have missed the crucial moment thanks to ITV cutting to adverts at the most inopportune moment but saying that Wickes bathrooms will now always have a special place in my heart.
However, I do think Moyes could?ve tried harder to get ?there was only one team trying to win? into his post match interview!!
Tell you what lads, this could be a turning point for us.
We showed great mental strength, Moyes was POSITIVE and you know what, as a team we BELIEVED we could win....that’s been a long time coming against the Sky 4.
If Blue Bill could somehow find £20M to support Moyes, who knows what could happen?
C’MON, I’n fcuking elated!!!
Words fail me! We?ve finally slain the shite dragon! I feel like we won the fucking World Cup today. Us, plucky little Everton playing with 2 teenagers and nothing but blood, sweat and tears against a collection of millionaires! You red cunts are finally defeated. I have been advocating Gosling?s inclusion for weeks on TW, but Shandy Andy, what a surprise. Moysey, you really surprised me today with your subs. You may have even appeased Tony Marsh for once. :D
What a day, what a manager, what a squad, what a fucking goal. Get in Gosling! COYB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just watched the highlights on SHITE TV (useless pricks switching to the adds whilst the goal was scored!) and Moyes gets another dig in there "at Everton we like to do things with class & dignity even when we win" Priceless!
Just goes to show after the FSW jibes that Moyes has risen above it and shoved his comments back down his throat! Benitez was practically in tears after the game! LOL! The shower were fucking useless when Stevie GBH LAAAA went off so in a nutshell next game v?s the darkside start the following chant: You're just a one man team, oneeee man team Stevie Laaaaaaaa! COYB!
Well done you Blues! You didn?t let us down tonight. I must admit when Ossie hit the post I thought oh no here we go again. As I remarked last week after the Arsenal game there is a maturity emerging within this squad. Tonight they showed once again that with patience and determination not to mention the enthusiasm of the young boys, there is a chance that a very good side may yet go on to bigger and better things.
Let?s hope Jo finds his feet from the beginning, he cannot have failed to have been impressed by the team and the fans after tonight. However, Saturday?s game will be no walk in the park, but I think tonight?s result and performance will have the desired effect on the remainder of the season. COYB more big days and nights like this please!
Yep, Rafa?s whining:
"The turning point of the game was the second yellow card for Lucas, I was not happy, but I do not want to say anything about the referee."
Nor does he want to say anything about having a brain-dead Brazilian sent off for taking down a center back at midfield.
I?m so proud of those kids... and kudos to whatever rehab program VDM came out of. Give the guy credit. After years adrift, he came on with a Hibbert haircut, a flat belly and full preparation for that one moment. Well done, Andy man.
The socks were getting thrown onto the pitch because there is a name for people from Kirkby which is ’Kirkby sock robbers’.
That is why Kopites were throwin socks onto the pitch. Regardless of their own supporters in the stands from Kirkby.
Don’t they make you cringe.
