Life on Mars

Comments (26)

Did anyone else pick up on the announcement of the attendance against Villa on Sunday? The club put an official statement out that the attendance on Sunday was 32,979 and not 35,979 as was showing on Sky text among other places.

When I saw that I felt like that copper in Life on Mars when he woke up in the 70s. For the younger among you, Everton attendances in the 70s were a long standing joke... absolutely chocker in all parts of the ground (standing) and then we'd see in the Pink Echo that the attendance was 32,000 when capacity was over 50,000 in those distant days.

On Sunday, given that the attendance was officially 32,979, then that means that there were 1,000 more empty seats in the ground than the Park End holds in total. Now as usual for a live TV game, some were not tempted to part with £30+ for a seat behind one of Goodison's many pillars and we could all see that plus the 2,000 tickets Villa sent back... but over 7,000 empty seats? Nah, I'm not buying that. It must be the first "Directors gate" for some time though... or maybe it was for Rodders' signing on prezzie!

I seem to remember an early copy of When Skies Are Grey including an apology to the club after they’d suggested a similar thing in the late 80s and forced the club’s hand.

Lawro had the shite to win (surprise!), a draw with bolton and a draw with Villa.
He is a tosser!

Aston Villa fans had to travel to some where like four crucial games in a week and half schedule. Which game do you miss in these harsh economic times? Everton away, a team currently making a habit of over turning top sides.

I was in the Enclosure 86-87 when we beat United 3-1 in a live Sunday match (Sharp Sheedy Heath if memory serves). The official gate was 25,000. You couldn?t fuckin move. They?ve been doing it for donkey's years & they always will.

?Lawro?s predictions" should be called "what Lawro really hopes will happen"

He inevitably has us loosing or drawing with the stock standard (i know fuck all so I will repeat what every other stupid cunt is saying) comment..... "David Moyes has done wonders with Everton on a shoe string budget, but"........

I am heartily sick to fucking death of that comment before every televised Everton game, can?t these morons stop repeating themselves FFS.

Yeah the attendance thing was a standing joke for years.

Re the bad things on social networking sites, there is a ?good? thing on facebook where my niece Susan Melia in N. Carolina (or is it Philly now or is that her sister?) is trying to educate the masses with her site. These said masses think that football begins with the Prem and ends with the so called big 4, and just who the fuck is the Everton you go on about. She now has a site ?I bet I can find a million people who love Everton.?

I would give you a link but all that shite is well beyond me... over to you MK.

About Lawro: it sort of comforts me to see him predict a draw, as that usually means we win. If he ever tips us to win, I get nervous!

I love it when Lawro predicts us to lose or draw, because we usually win when he does. If he predicts us to win I reckon it must Moyes must say "This will be a walkover lads, even Lawro thinks we’ll win".

Heres an idea, don't read fucking ladyboy Lawro?s predictions which will then: 1. Stop him winding us all up with his wank predictions 2. Stop him getting as many hits and then maybe they will sack him off and use someone else.

Actually they will probably just use that other cock Hansen!

I don’t think Lawrenson, or Hansen for that matter are all evil. Of course their former clubs will always bring attention, but as pundits, no one can question their knowledge of the game.

As for attendances, it was said on the night of the German game at Goodison in ’85 that 49,000 were present, of which 900 were Bayern supporters, whether this is accurate I never knew, but I thought even back then was a healthy attendance, especially considering only 13,000 turned out for one fixture at the same venue less than two years earlier.

Lawro?s prediction on Sunday, suprise.... a 1-1 draw against a Newcastle side without their "interim manager" Joe Kinnear. And the twat still manages to mention how well Moyes has done with his oh so small budget ? they?re like a broken record, these twats.

His bit about us this week was shit, even by his standards. He talks a bit about Newcastle's recent form and no manager, then says about how well Moyes has done to build a team with a small budget. How the hell did he come up with 1-1 from that??? No mention of the fact we have been getting decent results against the sky 4 and rolling just about every other team over quite comfortably recently!

Bebo is facebook but for teenagers. I was talking to a 12-year-old girl on Bebo, she was funny, sexy and flirty now she tells me she is an undercover cop. How cool is that at her age?

Elstone needs to follow his words with actions. 3 GAMES IN A MONTH ALL AT HOME IN THE CUP AND STILL NO DISCOUNT FOR SEASON TICKET HOLDERS. I sometimes wonder what EFC motives are for not reducing the price of tickets for matches that are on TV. Follow Sunderland's example for next season and prove that EFC are the People's Club. Look at Blackburn away: £6.45p for a young person under 16 yrs.

Come on, Terry, no-one said Lawro and Hansen were Evil! I mearly said Lawro was a Ladyboy and Hansen a cock! Both statements of fact.

As for not being able to question their knowledge of the game. I certainly do question the Ladyboy's, he spouts utter shit in both his commentary and written press. Now ok I might be biased but show me a fan of any other club (and I have had this discussion with a few) that thinks he has ever added anything to a game they have watched with his wide ranging knowledge of the game. I fear you may have mistaken his smuggness for confidence in his own abilities, but if he made use of his employers listen again service that should surely stop.

As for Hansen, yeah ok, he knows he's shit but that don?t stop him from being a cock in my (blue) eyes.

All clubs declare attendances lower than they actually are. This means they don’t have to declare all the income for the game and therefore don’t have to pay tax (allegedly).
