The Mail Bag

Player of the season so far

Comments (40)

After reading Andy Crooks's third mailbag entry in like a week, and craving some originality in the mailbag threads, I was just wondering who everyone thinks the Player of the Season is so far, with just under a third of the season to go?

There are plenty of candidates: Howard, Lescott, Neville, Arteta and Cahill are up there, but I'd go for Jagielka. He has been immense this season, and I love how he defends, what an asset to have!

Jags gets my vote. Now our best defender.

The order may change from now to the end of the season though.

Cahill by far, we don’t win without him.

Jags has been great but to have a centre half as your Player of the Season is a bit negative. Cahill must be top with his fighting never-say-die spirit and Mikel a very close second for getting us playing on the floor and not the old hoofball.

Jags and Cahill (I can’t split ’em)
Lescott
Howard

....should we have a Wembley performance coming up then we’ll need all of them to be our best player.

Should we win the final then every single player, including the injured ones, deserves to be called the PLAYER OF THE SEASON and along with DM as MANAGER OF THE SEASON!

(As an aside...funny how The Fat Bastard is bemoaning the loss of Torres for part of the season.....thank god he’s not our manager and all that money and they still have to rely on one player, well, two counting Gerrard.)

Jagielka has been immensse this season but I will go for Phil Neville. he has lead by example and been a fantastic captain and a great example for the young players at the club to follow.

Jags with Rodders best prospect.

Cahill

Jags needs to score a few goals from corners and set-plays, like all good centerbacks should.

Jagielka and Arteta are the most obvious ones, but despite missing about half of the games through injury, Yobo is always absolutely solid and never gets mentioned for anything (which is a good sign - quietly gets on with the job).

Hibbert cos once he came back in the side , our defence became solid again. Also has to put up with all the boo boys that dont rate him. Id like to see if the Jag that cant do any wrong, Villa anyone or Arteta who was crap for the 1st half of the season , both these dont get booed whatever they do wrong, would have been as good if the were booed. Hibbert defensively amazing and even great going forward last ten or so games. Go on shoot me down. COYB

Cahill or Jags. Arteta would be in the mix on recent form, but he was missing on the wing for periods at the start of the season.

The rest have maintained their standards. Neville, Hibbert and Baines have all improved on last year.

Has to be Jags for consistency over the season, Cahill follows closely though with his goals and performances

Anyone watch Match of the Day at the weekend? The commentater, "And there?s Jagielka, to clear the danger... as usual." My thoughts exactly.

Not bad for a lad who?s been relegated with 2 or 3 clubs in his career!

Jags and Cahill would both thoroughly deserve it. Fantastic individual performances, and fantastic broader influence on the team (Jags calming and Tim inspiring). Maybe for once we should split it?

The most improved player, without a doubt, is Hibbert.

The player of the season so far, for me, is Baines.

Just seen this crap on Sky Sports PFA fans award for February, no jags... what the fuck?

Premier League
Steven Gerrard - Liverpool
Ryan Giggs - Manchester United
Cristiano Ronaldo - Manchester United
Fernando Torres - Liverpool
Nemanja Vidic - Manchester United

How the fuck do they not have a Blue in there, tosser was in jags pocket for Feb, the other git was out for 3 fuckin weeks. When are we going to get some recognition?

And on the post, it has to be Tiny Tim, he's won games for us this season.

1 Jags 2 Cahill 3 Lucas (helped us win the cup derby, helped make sure RS didn't challenge for the league - winds up every RS I know into a frenzy every time he is on the teamsheet) - lovely :)

Trevor, so what? The obsession amongst some Evertonians regarding our lack of media coverage is almost as bad as Sky’s obsession with their beloved "big 4".

We have to accept that the majority of Everton fans are local to Merseyside and the interest in Everton is not massive beyond the North West of England. Sky don’t give a shit because unfortunately a lot of people in London, the South East, the South West, the North East don’t give a shit about us and therefore we’re not as newsworthy.

Leon Osman, simple as that. Mr Consistent always pops up with an important assist or goal, a true Everton Legend, said he?d play with one leg for this club ? better commitment than most of our money grabbers like Yakubu.
