Right back ideas anyone?

Comments (100)

Just reading the media reports about our line up for tonight's game.

Does anyone else think it might be an error in DM's judgement to put Jags at right back instead of playing Lars? Just a quick post but anyone out there share the same ideas as me?

Jags is better at centre half and I reckon playing someone who sounds like he's ready for first team action might be a better option.

Couldnt see Lars playing today (defo not starting). They have Pedersen, who is tricky on the left. Jags might not be great at RB, but he is a known commodity and is up to pace. Bout Lars nobody has any idea about, he has not played a game, so why choose him to face Pedersen? We TWers seem to have a strange pre-occupation with our fringe players.. Specially when we have no diea about his fitness.

At the end of the day, DM amkes the call, he has guided us to 6th and we have looked good, so in Moyes I trust

Cant see the point in jeapordising Jagielkas impeccable form at Centre Half by moving him to right back.

Agree with Alan Codd.
Plus we have Downing to cope with next so playing Lars would have given him and Moyes a chance to look at fitness/form etc.
Pederson is out so even better.
What is the point of having Lars on the bench ? Might as well put Seamus Coleman there so he can gain experience travelling with the first team.He has been bought as one for the future so why not ?
Very strange.

Neither Seamus or Lars has played premier league football as yet so they have been left out in case they get a pasting which is probably likely,

I have watched Seamus a few times and considering he was playing league of Ireland football a month ago he is nowhere near the ready item for a premier league match.

Moyes must also have doubts about Lars or he would be in.

Along wth Segundo he will be heading elsewhere in the summer.

Andrew - He is playing Jags so my point re Coleman was that as per Lars not getting a game, he would get experience simply being there.
Lars however is a proven Danish international and is desperate to play. Tonight could have been a perfect opportunity to see what he is made of.
If, as you say, he was getting a ’pasting’ then bring Yobo off the bench and move Jags over or Neville to right back.

On the last three performances, its going to be a long end of season. We have no creativity whatsoever. Osman was like a traffic cone out there and Pienaar (I know he has his fans) but for me there is no end product. Primarily because he is so painfully slow. We are going to have to rely on set pieces, particularly away from home.

Not a great performance, but what exactly were we all expecting? The back 4 on Sunday should be Jags, Lescott, Neville and Baines. They are good defensively and offer attacking options. Yobo will just have to live with the fact that he can?t play in his favourite posiiton.

I know there is more than a hint of dissapointment regarding the last 2 away games. But with half the players unfit and those such as Jo struggling for form 2 clean sheets and 2 points is ok. At the end of the day, we are no better or worse off than we were last Friday night. Although we might have to keep an eye on the Hammers.
I?m pretty certain that the players have their focus on the FA Cup especially since Mikel got injured. Good news the Barcodes losing again and another step closer to where they belong.

Moyes, sure is one strange man... I can?t believe how he thinks sometimes. Jagielka at right back? If he refuses to play one of the right backs we already got, why doesn?t he let Yobo be the one to play there, so Jagielka can continue with Lescott in the centre. And what about Jo upfront? He is totally crap. He is so painfully slow, that it hurts.

The fastest Everton man to enter the Blackburn penalty area in this match was no other than Mick Rathbone. And at 60 minutes, when I expected the substitution, I had to wait another 10 minutes for no reason.

And as the match went on, and there was no real attacking threat from Everton, I was screaming for Van der Meyde to get in. But instead, in came Claus Thomsen reincarnated with a big black curly wig. So what was to come from that? Nothing... and the time ticket away and no more substitutions was to come. Moyes was apparently satisfied with a point from relegation candidates Blackburn.

Poor, poor game... But 1 point away is not bad. Having said that, I thought we need Gosling on the wide right, he is better than Osman there. Maybe Moyes will see the problem and put him in center.

And Brian, agreed ? Neville without a creative player alongside looks poor. Finally, why do people have such a go at Jo? For me, he did decently, we didn't give him a chance to score, still he moved around and got involved in the link up. He did his job decently, his touch is not great though.

And if not Jo, who else?? Jo is cup-tied, that means Saha is going to play on Sunday, so maybe Moyes wanted to nurse him today. Fair call on that. Those who slag off Moyes, in spite of such a spirited season amidst all the injuries, should go the full distance and identify who to play instead of Jo...

Very poor game this one. I agree with those who think that Jagz should be left at centre-half. Why take someone who has been in the top 5 central defenders in the league and put him in a position where he doesn’t know whether he’s coming or going?! I hope this doesn’t mess with his confidence when he does eventually go back to his more favoured position. Thank God that Jo is ineligible for the Cup meaning that Saha will line up with Cahill up front. The jury is still out on Jo but it’s obvious that our current style of play does not suit him.

Same old moans which receive the same old reply, we did not concede so therfore the defence worked... QED

So we move Neville to right back, who plays in midfield? Or better yet we play Lars, an injury prone player who has never played one second of premiership football, against a rough and tumble Fat Sam side... genius, absolute genius.

The fact remains that we have no creative outlet in our midfield anymore and tonight Blackburn beat us at our own game, they were closing down quickly all over the park and were genuinely triple marking Pienaar, our only source of flair tonight.

Horrible game to watch but at least we didn?t get beat.

Given Everton?s injury problems I think a lot of the games between now and the end of the season will be like this one ? drab, low scoring affairs. Hopefully we can edge enough games to guarantee us 6th spot, but asking for 4th spot without Arteta and Yakuba and with a host of other players carrying little niggles (Cahill, Fellaini, Saha) is a big ask. Let?s just make sure we cement 6th spot through tight defensive performances and try our hand a bit more in the FA Cup.

I agree that this was a pretty poor showing tonight. But let's put things into perspective. We have kept another clean sheet and we have done this away from home. We have a injury ravaged squad and a small squad at that. We have an FA Cup quarter final, which I am so excited about. We are 6th in the league, which is fantastic, considering how unfortunate we have been this season. We have a great youth setup and it's getting better. It's great to be a blue.

Onwards and upwards!

Its plain to see that Neville needs the calmness of Arteta when playing in CM (because Neville?s point of pass is generally to Arteta)

I feel Moyes now needs to change the CM setup and play lads in the middle who are comfortable on the ball.

I would move Neville to RB on Sunday and play a Midfield of Pienaar, Rodwell, Osman and Gosling.

This will allow Fellaini and Cahill to revert to the roles in which they were so successful around Xmas.

Absolutely stunned by Wiley. He was clearly lecturing Cahill before the first corner, then later gives a free kick to Blackburn after being poleaxed from behind by Samba. As Joe said, Big Sam had this huge shite-eating grin knowing the ref had fallen for his drivel. This smells of AJ all over again.

What would you rather have, 10 thousand quid or Big Sam?s big fat head full of 10 p pieces?

Thank god it?s Saha for Jo on Sunday and not vice versa (not withstanding a possible Cahill/Fellaini combination).

The man is crap. Blackburn may be an even bigger load of yard dogs than either of the other shite that corrupt twat Allardyce managed in Bolton and Newcastle but at least they had three forward players who ran their socks off up front; what did we have? A lazy, clueless, smiling (yes... smiling, which he does a lot because he is earning a fortune for doing fuck all and having a real good laugh at our soft club for giving him houseroom in the first place), Citeh reject. God help us!

Just have to say though, if any of the so-called ?big-four? had the same number of players putting in the shift most of our lads have in the recent intensive programme of games against the same opposition as they?ve had, the papers would be full of it. Our lads just get on with it, despite the fact that most of them must be absolutely shattered at the moment. Unfortunately, I think that we break down sooner or later, it just isn?t sustainable but who could blame them. Even if it comes on Sunday, I?m certainly proud of them as all Evertonians must surely be.

Tell you what, once this squad is fully fit, get rid of the deadwood (Jo back to Citeh, Fellaini, Castillo), and if Billy Liar gets his finger out to bring in Dafur and Dalmat from Liege and Moutinho from Lisbon, there won?t even be a contest for top four but there may be for the title!

The last 10 Pl games for the top teams is as follows. Considering this includes our fixtures against 3 of the Sky 4 I don’t think we’re doing too bad although we do need to rediscover how to win away from home.

Pts TEAM
30 MANCHESTER UNITED
20 CHELSEA
20 WEST HAM UNITED
19 LIVERPOOL
19 EVERTON
18 ASTON VILLA
18 ARSENAL
17MANCHESTER CITY

Someone on here has said Yobo was awful last night. Ridiculous. He was comfortable and composed - as always. As I’ve said many times before he is probably naturally our best defender. Jags has been class this season, but is playing above himself. We can’t afford to lose Joseph. Fact.

Tim Wardrop - how on earth is Jagielka playing above himself when he has been playing to this standard CONSISTENTLY all season? To me, that would imply this is his natural level of performance, would it not?

Tim - once again the centre halfs were split with a lucky pass through the middle. This happens a lot when Yobo and Lescott play together.
No-one is saying Yobo isn’t class but right now our best partnership in the centre is Jags and Lescott.
Obviously Moyes has no respect for Jacobsen’s ability (why even bother putting him on the bench), so let Yobo play right back.

And to those who keep saying Jacobsen is untried in the Premiership so is everyone else who has not played yet !!!
He has played for Denmark from under 16’s through to the senior team so I am sure he can handle a game at Blackburn(Newcastle).
Christ Blackburn had no threat down the right flank at all.
What an insult to a full international player yet a 17 year old (regardless of potential) is put back in the middle against a team of Allardyce thugs. The decisions do not balance.

As for Allardyce - what a horrible, self importent git he is.
Cahill is crunched - and Allardyce is laughing and saying ’I told you so’ in the stands.
I do not normally swear on here but what an arrogant, delusional fat twat that man is.

I thought our midfield at times got in each others way and with Jags at right back we had no outlet down that wing which in turn puts all the pressure on Baines and Peanuts on the left which is why everytime Peanuts got the ball he was surrounded by 3 Blackburn players. Shut down our attacking options down the left and with Jags at right back we have no width at all.

If we did not have a massive quarter final at the weekend I believe more Evertonians would be seriously challenging Moyes over his tactis in the last 2 away games regardless of Arteta’s loss.
Jacobsen and Andy Van simply fill subs places with no chance of playing so why not include say Coleman and AN other on the bench - no chance of playing but an opportunity to share the first team experience ?

Anyway 3 points gained on Villa in 2 games and 1 on Liverpool.
The players must have had an eye on the quarter final - human nature despite one game at a time etc.
Anyway calmed down now re the selection and looking forward to Sunday.

Yobo was cleaned by Roberts last night. I cannot understand why Moyes would break up the Jags - Lescott partenrship. I thought he has more cop on. I love moyes but this is shit managing. Osman was so fucking shite I nearkly cried watching him, God love the little fucker he was dirt,. Jo is brutal too. Back to Jags,Lescott Baines and Neville back 4 on Sunday and teh rest will fall into place. Gosling Osman Cahill Rodwell and Pienaar in the mid and Saha up front.
Yobo is a liability.
