Contract cancelled

Comments (29)

I remember the summer when I was desperate for news of a signing for our club.

This chap Vogel was mooted at some point as the obvious replacement for Carsely as a defensive midfielder. He was available on a free and seemed like a dead cert.

Well he never turned up and ended up at Blackburn Rovers instead. I was disappointed, not because I thought he was going to be our new super star but because I always worry why a player would choose one our rivals when we seem the better option.

Anyhow, nothing to worry about because it turns out he was rubbish, he has just had his contract cancelled by mutual consent, just like his previous club.

This is not the first time an average player that looked like a dead cert as a squad player has gone elsewhere, but does yet again underline that we might be frustrated with the lack on transfer transactions at Everton, but we do not have deadwood and we are a lean mean fighting machine. The salary budget is spent wisely.

It?s not the size of your squad; it?s making the best of what you?ve got and at that we are the Champions.

Considering the input of Jacobsen and Castillo, I?m not so sure you?re glee is merited.

Never in a million years did Vogel have what it took to be at Everton or in the Premier league. He has been a substitute everywhere he has been and people confused the fact that he was once at AC Milan, meaning he must be good!

The Guardian today has Moyes preparing a £12m bid for Moutinho - no source quoted.

Regarding your opening line you will have to narrow it down as I thought it was every summer.

Utter bollocks, Frank Castle, about Van der Meyde, he cost us £20,000 a week for 3 years for one flash on inspiration.

Absolute waste of money.

Out of interest, exactly how good is Moutinho???

Everyone on this site bangs on about how good he is and how he could be our saviour but are people on here much better informed than I am? Do they have season tickets for Sporting?

from what I’ve seen on you tube he does look like he has skill and talent BUT if he’s so good then why aren’t other, bigger teams after him?

I hope he’s awesome and we get him and he does the business for us but I’m just wondering how everyone seems to KNOW he’s a god?

Chase. The reason everyone thinks Mountinho is dead ace is because he is a brilliant player on a certain football manager computer simulation game.

I saw Moutinhio score a cracker of a goal against Bayern Munich in the Champions League... shame they conceded 12 though!

Kase. Moutinho undoubtedly has talent. How good is he? Very good in the Portuguese league but then it's the Portuguese league. Good for the Portuguese national team but then not outstanding. Hasn't really shown enough in the Champions League to judge but did score a screamer against Bayern. He has an eye for goal, great skills and looks a talent for the future.

I would definitely buy him but there is no saying that he will be an instant hit, he's probably smaller than Ossie and who knows if he would hack it in the Prem but we should snap him up before someone else does. It could very well be the case that he will take time to settle into the Prem and, if some people's views and opinions on Fellaini this season are anything to go by, they will not let Moutinho settle and he should be sold by January.

Cheers.

I don’t doubt Moutinho is good. But given the physicality if the Premiership would he stick out and really be the creative influence we desire OR is it wishful thinking?

I was wondering if there was something I was missing in that EVERYONE seems on TW seems to think he’s the missing piece.

I’m only asking how everyone is so certain. I guess it’s like the Emperors New Clothes....Is Moutinho THAT good. Great goal against Bayern Munich but can he CHANGE a game? If Sporting are losing 1-0 or 2-0 can he drag his team back into it? Does he slam into tackles or is he only a ’pretty boy’ i.e. looks good when you’re 2-0 up?

I’m not saying he is, I’m only asking how good he is....?

Kase, his rating in the 12-1 against Bayern was as good as any of the German team... to me that says he?s a battler who will always give 100%. That and his undoubted talent makes one hell of a player.

As for his size, I always think about the size of his heart ? Keegan, Bremmner, Makelele ? rather than how big he is. Timmy isn?t the tallest either. The other thing i like about him is he looks like he?s got time on the ball ? a sign of of a great player!

I think he?s good, as he can pass the ball really well. He would make the midfield small though with Ossie, Peanuts, Cahill and Mikel. I would like to see some genuine pace on the left though, but not seen anything for ages. He is a better player than Jenas.

Ian B, why is he better than Jenas? Jenas has been crap this year but all the same he is a proven Premier League player. I too want Moutinho at Goodison but for half the price you could get Jenas, who only 2 years ago was in Mourinho?s team of the season.

If were playing fantasy football in saying he?s better then I wish we would have signed Elvis Hammond a couple of years ago ? he was awesome when I signed him from Fulham.

Moutinho is obviously a talented lad, but in my opinion better in French football than the hurly burly of the Premier League. Unfortunately this lad is small, he make Osman look like Frank Bruno, and he will get knocked about like a ping pong ball in the Premier League.

However, I want to be wrong and hope he will be a star, but at his possible fee, too much of a gamble with our limited resources. I think we need someone maybe like M?Bia to fill the Neville role, especially if Pip gets injured or reverts to fullback.

What the hell is all the negativity about size on this site? Wimbledon had size and no talent... what about Stoke?? Messi and Maradona have no size at all but are the world's best in different eras. Most of the best ball players are small... the best full backs are not tall: eg; Baines, Cole and Evra, and in the past our best backs were also small: Wilson, Wright and Stevens.

It's only central defenders who definitely need height and possibly strikers. Even the best strikers have not all been tall: Owen, Greaves, Young, Vernon, Law etc etc etc.Get off this height rubbish and put your glasses on lads!!

Not like you to be negative, Brian. Did you forget about all of the good signings ? Arteta, Cahill, Pienaar, Lescott, Howard, Yak, Jags, Baines, etc, etc. You just don?t get much better than some of those signings.

This quote from the Sky article about Vogel sums it up for me:

"The experienced Switzerland international has amassed close to 200 league appearances for the likes of PSV, AC Milan and Real Betis."

He’s 32 FFS, either he only started playing in his late 20s, or he’s average, or another Shandy / Dunc in the treatment room.

If we buy him then, David Moyes will put his arm around him & tell him he loves him, then the players will tell him they love him to, the fans of course will do the same, and he will end up being a great player who feels loved & wanted and the players will ask how he is & if he wants anything.

You probably think I?ve gone mad writing this but this is what Jo wrote recently in the Echo & it demonstrates how much concern & comradeship Moyes has created in the club; not all clubs have it or try to create it. It has worked wonders on the pitch ? as you all say... In Moyes We Trust!!!

With regard to Mouthino ? Just to add a further comment to support what I felt was not negativity against size, just fact.

If you research the player's profile, you will find he is 5? 6" and weighs in at 9st 8lbs. Now I love it when the big guy gets dumped on his arse by the spirit and ablity of a lesser blessed physical specimen. But I just want Everton to be careful with what could be a very expensive purchase, bearing in mind our limited funds.

That said, I repeat, I want to be wrong about this but we need to be careful. In Moyes we trust.

You can watch selected games of the Portugese Liga live on a certain betting site, devoid of lags. With regards to the quality of football and matches, after the Premier League, I?d rather watch Seirie A . From what I?ve seen I?d certainly love to see Moutinho in the squad. £12M though? not too sure.

The Sporting Lisbon game against Naval is I believe streamed tomorrow at 6pm for those interested.
