Spirit of Unsworth and Limpar
Comments (95)
Enjoyed reading Rhino on the official site, with his thoughts on the game and his support for us today as a fan. So my mind went back to 1995, the last time we beat the Mancs at Wembley - and I thought: what about a bit of history repeating?
Let Jags plays as well as Unsworth did that day, and Pienaar do a Limpar... 1-0 to the Blues and onto the final!
Here we go!

Yes indeed... and the teams are announced (below), so we should be in for a good one.
(err... Why do we only have six subs???)
Team News:
Everton: Howard, Hibbert, Lescott, Jagielka, Baines, Neville, Osman, Cahill, Pienaar, Saha, Fellaini. Subs: Nash, Yobo, Jacobsen, Gosling, Rodwell, Vaughan.
Man Utd: Foster, Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic, Fabio, Gibson, Anderson, Park, Welbeck, Tevez, Macheda. Subs: Neville, Evra, Berbatov, Nani, Scholes, Evans, Kuszczak
It seems United are resting most of theier 1st team and according to the OS Ronaldo doesn't even make the bench .Surley this is a great thing.
COYB NSNO
All there main players rested.. What a chance!! COYB!!! Please..
Looking at the Man Utd team for today's semi final, you have to say that we will never have a better opportunity to beat them. The Da Silva brothers a full back positions, Gibson in midfield & Wellbeck & Macheda playing. COYB lets impose ourselves on these kids and get into the final.
What an opportunity! We are an organised, composed, mature team... time to go and dominate a young team and show the world the style of football.we can play
COYB!!!
Our other reserve is Castillo
COYB
I really don’t know what to think about our chances against United’s young line up. Half of me is looking forward to getting stuck into them and dominating, the other half is remembering the time we played Arsenal Under 17’s in the Carling Cup a few years ago :(
Are there any live streams ?

myp2p. Take your pick.
I?m on TVU.
For those abroad and unable to watch live on TV the best link I can find is: http://www.veetle.com/viewChannel.php?cid=49defd7f754fc
COYB!
Live streams? I should be so lucky! I’m on a boat working off the coast of Nigeria, with a low speed connection shared with about 10 computers! It’s Toffeeweb and the F5 button for me I’m afraid.
COYB!

We seem to be playing the name rather than a team.
Very clever from ferguson, he has put all the pressure and expectation on us. Still, it should be a great opportunity more the boys.
Lets hope we get some luck!
We should be dominating the midfield but we’re not which is a concern. Moyes needs to read the riot act at half time because we’re slow, pensive and wasteful. We won’t get a better chance than this to reach the final.
Osman looks a bit tired, I know most play is going down the left but when Pienaar and Baines are hunting the ball and taking men on, it's no wonder. He had a chance to close the man down and chase a loose ball and just stood watching. Gosling for 2nd half please.
Ferguson is showing us a lot of disrespect by playing a reserve side. The message is, ?We can beat these bums with our second string.? Everton need to hit them and hit them hard - not let them settle in the second half. We are giving them too much time, Cahill is dropping too deep. Lescott is not moving forward enough. We need to attack them. We are playing them as if they were Ronaldo and Co. They are not.
Better crossing from Baines needed and a really poor free-kick from Pienaar. We seem scared to attack at the moment ? incident were Osman just stood still rather than get down the wing. Come on!
Half time, 0 - 0. Haven’t settled in to our normal game. Should have been a bit more positive. No real opportunities on goal yet. Pienaar our best player so far, Tevez and Macheda looking dangerous for Utd but they haven’t created much either. . Hope wembley nerves have disappeared now and they give it a right good lash in 2nd half. COYB!
A really poor nervy unconvincing performance so far, sad to say. After all the expectation and bravado, we are seemingly frozen in awe of Wembley, Sir Alex, and the myth of the Red Devils. It certainly isn’t the Man Utd players on the field, who are there to be beaten. But we simply ain’t doing it... yet! Much, much better second half, please lads!!!
Don’t think it’s the tactics or individual performances that are at fault, it’s the psychology. The boys seem to be giving too much respect to a name.
Fucking awful. Even with 63% of possession in the second half they can?t even get in the penalty area. First shot after 53mins by Cahill.
Poor, Poor, Poor.
Can?t see where Everton are even going to get a corner... Crowd playing a better game that the team.
That was a clear penalty !!
It would have been a clear penalty had he actually made any contact with the player!
The point of Osman is ... ?
Ferguson has made an official complaint to the FA that this match is boring. In fact he can?t stay awake. This is transmitting itself to the United players, who could have made more of their claim for a penalty but were asleep.
Moyes tactics (if any) must be to bore everyone to death and hope that one of his players scores in the 93 minute, that is if one of his players actually finds the penalty area.
Although United do have Berbatov to come on still, Everton have erm, well, erm, [scratches head......]
Reminds me of Germany v Austria at the 1982 World Cup.
Get James Vaughan on now FFS. Why are we defending so deep?
C’mon Moyes you have nothing to lose. MAybe throw on VDM or Gosling for Osman or Hibbert(put Nev at RB) or even Fellani. Wat about Vaughny he will just run for us and give us some energy
Get Vaughan on and Fellaini off he is going to get sent off otherwise. They are all over us, can’ stand it!
Why is Osman still on? He's dead on his feet??? Or maybe dead???
I agree Simon, I’m sure JV would give more threat in 30 mins that we’ve seen in 90. He should be fit enough for 20 or 30 mins. Osman off?
Is the Wembley pitch too big for our boys’ liking?
JV coming on now. The game’s opening up.
Who?re our penalty-takers going to be now...??? JV, Rodwell...
Terrible game, proud of the boys though whatever happens in the pens. Come on you blues
Rubbish game. Apart from Vidic not a single player over 6 out of ten. Occassion got to them big time.
Down to peno’s...C’mon lads, keep the head, Hit ’em hard and true! COYBS!!!
Ant Welsh - Stop talking crap. It is Moyes that has got us this far. We have no fit strikers ffs!
Pens now. What will be will be. COYB!!
I would just like to thank David Moyes for instilling his FEAR into the team who have played Man Utd reserves at Wembley today.
What sort of manager is he? What is he about?
Embarrasing. Pathetic. Wasted opportunity.
YYYEEEEEEESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!
Yes!!!! That always works on Toffeeweb when I post that we?re going to lose ? we win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Brilliant.
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAYA!!!!!!!!!!!
YESSSSSSSSS - a 5,000 mile away YESSSSSSSSS
Ok we were awful but who cares, we there we did it.. GO ON LADS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fantastic absolutely amasing.
You beauty. Now how do I buy Wembley tickets from Oz?
Just hurt my hand on the bloody ceiling jumping but who cares! We’re going to Wembley twice!
To all the Moyes haters and to Andy Townsend who's mouthing off about the penalty non-descision on ITV ? blow it out your asses! We can play better I know but we are there and that is all that matters at the minute. You Fucking beauty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well said Chris, some of the posts on here today have been fucking disgraceful... Ant Welsh amd some others should hang their heads in shame. The boys gave their all today and were far the better team in extra time... deserved victory in the end. Well done Moyes and the boys.
I hope they were saving the performance of their lives for the final.
Fuckin' yessssss!!!! I?d book a flight from Singapore to Heathrow right now if I knew how to get tickets to the final!!!!!
WE?RE IN THE FUCKING FA CUP FINAL.........who cares about the odd line up for Man Utd, who cares about Fellaini and his fouls, who cares about the "not given" PK, who cares Cahill missed the first PK, who cares about the negative drivel spouted about the performance (including mine!)... WE (as in EVERTON) ARE IN THE FA CUP FINAL!!!
Brilliant achievement if not a brilliant performance... Cahill aside it was a brilliant shoot-out performance from the scorers to Howard included!
Regarding the penalty not given... after numerous replays I?m still undecided, so I think the ref actually made the right decision as he probably couldn?t say 100% it was a foul.
Roll on Chelsea (twice!)
The game on Wednesday is being shown live here... way too much excitement for me!!!
Oh, almost forgot! A special word of thanks to our supporters at Wembley today, absolutley fantastic, raised the roof from start to finish and as usual did the club proud...Thanks guys
Could not be more proud. I’ve lost my voice.
Fuck Chelsea... Let’s hope they reach the Champions League final, get injuries, jet lag, tired and then us!
We are in the fucking FA Cup Final. We have beaten Utd, Villa and Liverpool on the way. We are going to win this motherfucker!!!!!!!!!!
Only just calmed down, so happy and proud of our team and fans at Wembley. Hats off to every player for giving everything (even if some of our so-called supporters don?t apprieciate it) and a special mention to big Phil Jags... that took balls. COYB!!!!!!
Didn't know the players had it in them to win from penalties... the media will be really upset. Come on, Everton!
Actually, doesn’t this pretty much guarantee European qualification?
Good shout about our fans, especially second half and extra time... put the Mancs to shame! Well played everyone.
And to anyone who would dare to suggest that we don’t deserve to make the final... How many teams in the history of the game have had to play and beat three of the top five sides in the country on their way to the final? Arsenal were Chelsea’s first Premier league opposition in the cup this season.
Each and every Evertonian out there deserves to be very very proud for what the boys have achieved! Today is a very special day...
I’ve never been a big fan of penalty shoot outs. For some reason, today, I find myself FUCKING LOVING THEM!!! Now excuse me while I go and dance around the room like a nutter again.....
Is Berbatov a closet everton fan?
Well done Howard you did well.
Well done the fans
Well I’m going to get very drunk now.
I’ll savour the moment they have been too rare lately.
So so glad to have won. Absolutely over the moon!
I am absolutely knackered now. I feel like I played 120 minutes myself.
Wasn?t surprised by Fergie?s team selection but was surprised by how tired Everton looked in the second half. Osman & Pienaar were awful. Cahill & Fellaini weren?t much better but at least were always involved against arguably two of the best centre backs. Hibberts poor distribution was evident again and Baines seemed to have caught the disease also today.
It always looked like penalties were to be our only hope and so it proved. I don?t think we have won a game on penalties since Munchengladbach back in 1971. Playing against some Manure youngsters was probably harder than if the likes of Rooney,Ronaldo & Co were playing as they were out to impress and had young legs whereas the others may have had one mind on the next Premier League game. The penalty by Jags was no worse than the one on Pienaar early on. Just upper body contact if you look at it closer. Anyway we are due to beat Chelsea too so bring them on.
No voice left, no finger ? nails left, nerves shot to pieces, feelings of having a heart ? attack all afternoon, isen?t it fucking great?!!!!!
I have never been Neville?s biggest fan, but he was immense today, and did the captains armband credit. Also, after the ref getting loads of stick this week, about being bias, etc, I thought he had a great game, and never bottled the penalty appeal, he got it spot on.
Another huge shout to you lads who were lucky enough to be there, fucking awesome!!! You could hardly hear the mancs all game. By the way, anyone reckon Townsend doesn?t like us? He looked gutted that we had got through.
Brian - likewise on Neville. Immense AGAIN today, our MotM. I have been dreadfully critically of him in the past, but he has proved me wrong. I would vote for him now as Player of the Season. (Maybe I really am losing my head!!!)
Tom Bowers,
We have won a pen shoot out since 1971 (year of my birth)! But not many. Got a feeling it was away at Newcastle in a cup game (natch). If a statto can confirm, please do....
Now I got my excuse to visit UK again....
Ant Welsh, what the fuck is wrong with you. I have just got back from the best day of my life and get back to comments from you of moyes out. I take it you won’t watch the fianl if you feel so strong about a manager who has got us to the champions league, 5th in the premiership and final of the FA Cup.
Your right get Moyes out, what a shit manager he is!!
Townsend knows that Mike "Porky" Parry is going to be hard work on 1089 tomorrow lol. Well done, Moysey and the Blues! And don't forget Blue Bill!
I would just like to add that, even though Timmy missed a penalty, he is still a legend. He has EFC running through his veins (proved on his tattoo shown on TV).
Did anyone else know he had made such a massive commitment to the club??
Fucking get in man! A special mention to all of you who were there, you were fantastic. Bollix to all of this ?no penalty? shite, we had just as good a claim in the first half!
In Moyes We Trust.
Never witnessed better vocal support in my life. Hairs on neck standing stuff, Come on you Blues.
Just got back from the game. Atmosphere was amazing! And for those fans slagging Moyes off on here as the game was being played is shameful. Can’t fucking please some people. In Moyes we trust
Yeah, I was doubting whether new Wembley would ever provide much atmosphere but the Blue Support today was something else and proved me totally and utterly wrong. Absolutely amazing support, makes me really feckin proud *sniffle* you guys...
Amazing. So happy we made it.
There’s been few matches to get excited about recently..... Champs League qualifier, Fiorentina and that’s about it.
I was fookin bouncing off the walls today, so imagine 30th May.... this is going to be fucking awesome!!!
Thanks to Moyes and the boys for giving us reason to get excited about football matches again!
Made up ? wot a day!!! Well done Blues ? not a great performance but people have to remember we were playing Man Utd!!! Second string albeit but still good players and I can't wait for the final!!! Did anyone see Stubbsy on the bench? What does he do at the club, anyone???
John, He is a defensive coach. Maybe shows why our back four is performing so well!!!
Was crying with tears of joy after the pens - thought the boys, defensively, were magnificent. MOM is Phil Neville by miles. His penalty summed up his afternoon - cool, calm, collected, and emphatic.
Absolutely fantastic result - and made up for Moyes as he gets to a Cup Final which is just reward for the fantastic job he has done since mid-October turning our season around. Hopefully the likes of Ant Welsh and Stephen Stuart have bought plenty of cream to go with the massive slice of humble pie they should be eating tonight.
Can?t sleep with excitement, come on here to share it and I can't believe some of the earlier comments... shameful. Brilliant result - SAF?s first ever semi-final defeat ? haha! Reminds me so much of 95, it feels like our year. I hope we can do it next month!
Well done Everton, real players with real balls today ? especially Jags to take that pen after missing against Fiorentina. Fucking brilliant! Never was there a more deserving set of players or fans.
One small step for American goalkeeping and one giant step for Everton!
Brilliant!
In all honesty Peter, it was Nervous Nev today, apart from his well taken penalty. I don?t think he had one of his better games which probably applies to most of our team today. Jagielka and Lescott were probably our best.
Young Jack looked very composed when he came on. I?m really impressed with this kid and can see him going a long way. Who cares about individual performances anyway, at the end of the day it?s the result that counts and we are through to the Final! COYB!
Just got back - great occasion, great result. Is Pienaar the fittest man on the planet? (Not gay fit by the way...!)
Lovely to see the youngsters getting something to cheer about at last. We arl arses have been there and done that, but this one was for the next generation. COYB !
Dear All,
Just want to say a huge huge congrats to the lads and all the supporters for a great almost miraculous result. I couldn’t believe it when the headline came up that we had beaten Manire (ire it must have been from Sir Alexie!). My joy and admiration only tempered by the thought of how invincible Chelski looked against the arses - just wish Scolari was still the mananger! This guy Hoodwink is something else! Still we had one miracle now we need a double miracle - get praying now!
Well done YOU True Blues
Nick, I thought Jack did a great job as well. He’s classy on the ball and good in the tackle. Loved seeing him haul down Scholes (was it?) professionally to stop a breakaway - not just a soft touch. Nice to see that we can have a bit of cynical prick about us too. All the best do.
Neville had a poor first half IMO and played too deep, symptomatic of the team really. But second half he led. And leading is what he does best. Exceptional stuff and very much responsible for the pleasure that Blues all over the world are feeling right now.
Only just awake after getting back at 1am this morning, think the result was the right one in the end, they played some good football and stopped virtually everything Man U threw at them, the comments on Man U reserves pumped about are bollocks as any of them would get a game in most prem squads.
Funny you mention Unsworth as he was there too and we saw him walking amongst the Everton fans along with Dave Hickson on the West Side of Wembley before we went in.
Finally the Man U fans inside and outside the stadium were the quietest bunch I’ve ever heard at Wembley; our lot were brilliant at the bottom of the stairs near entrance H a huge crowd singing and chanting and many more on the levels near the entrances and simply demolished any singing the Mancs did in the ground if any.
What a result! I feared for us when Tim missed the first and Jags didn't look too confident on his run up but it seems to be our year for great acheivement in the cup and it seems so much better that it's been done on a shoestring budget with all the injuries suffered this season. A truly great team to support.
Some ridiculous comments from idiots who spent the match commeting on here, so sad!!!!
I was there and have been both home and away all season. We were depleted, lost arguably our two best players to season-ending injuries, yet we're in the final!
It wasn't a spectacle but we played well for the first 25 minutes and had periods and we restricted United to long range efforts for most of the game and very rarely did they look dangerous!
So proud of everyone of them, a massive stage which we aren't used to but Man U are. No matter who they left out they still had the likes of Tevez, Vidic, Ferdinand who combined cost more than our bloody football club. But who cares, we're going to Wembley again
One last thing, to every blue that was at Wembley, I have never heard anything like it and lets have a repeat in May! And we've got Europe to look forward to AGAIN!!!!!! COYB.
