The Mail Bag

Spirit of Unsworth and Limpar

Comments (95)

Enjoyed reading Rhino on the official site, with his thoughts on the game and his support for us today as a fan. So my mind went back to 1995, the last time we beat the Mancs at Wembley - and I thought: what about a bit of history repeating?

Let Jags plays as well as Unsworth did that day, and Pienaar do a Limpar... 1-0 to the Blues and onto the final!

Here we go!

Yes indeed... and the teams are announced (below), so we should be in for a good one.

(err... Why do we only have six subs???)

Team News:

Everton: Howard, Hibbert, Lescott, Jagielka, Baines, Neville, Osman, Cahill, Pienaar, Saha, Fellaini. Subs: Nash, Yobo, Jacobsen, Gosling, Rodwell, Vaughan.

Man Utd: Foster, Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic, Fabio, Gibson, Anderson, Park, Welbeck, Tevez, Macheda. Subs: Neville, Evra, Berbatov, Nani, Scholes, Evans, Kuszczak

It seems United are resting most of theier 1st team and according to the OS Ronaldo doesn't even make the bench .Surley this is a great thing.

Osman looks a bit tired, I know most play is going down the left but when Pienaar and Baines are hunting the ball and taking men on, it's no wonder. He had a chance to close the man down and chase a loose ball and just stood watching. Gosling for 2nd half please.

Ferguson is showing us a lot of disrespect by playing a reserve side. The message is, ?We can beat these bums with our second string.? Everton need to hit them and hit them hard - not let them settle in the second half. We are giving them too much time, Cahill is dropping too deep. Lescott is not moving forward enough. We need to attack them. We are playing them as if they were Ronaldo and Co. They are not.

Half time, 0 - 0. Haven’t settled in to our normal game. Should have been a bit more positive. No real opportunities on goal yet. Pienaar our best player so far, Tevez and Macheda looking dangerous for Utd but they haven’t created much either. . Hope wembley nerves have disappeared now and they give it a right good lash in 2nd half. COYB!

A really poor nervy unconvincing performance so far, sad to say. After all the expectation and bravado, we are seemingly frozen in awe of Wembley, Sir Alex, and the myth of the Red Devils. It certainly isn’t the Man Utd players on the field, who are there to be beaten. But we simply ain’t doing it... yet! Much, much better second half, please lads!!!

Ferguson has made an official complaint to the FA that this match is boring. In fact he can?t stay awake. This is transmitting itself to the United players, who could have made more of their claim for a penalty but were asleep.

Moyes tactics (if any) must be to bore everyone to death and hope that one of his players scores in the 93 minute, that is if one of his players actually finds the penalty area.

Although United do have Berbatov to come on still, Everton have erm, well, erm, [scratches head......]

WE (as in EVERTON) ARE IN THE FA CUP FINAL!!!

Brilliant achievement if not a brilliant performance... Cahill aside it was a brilliant shoot-out performance from the scorers to Howard included!

Regarding the penalty not given... after numerous replays I?m still undecided, so I think the ref actually made the right decision as he probably couldn?t say 100% it was a foul.

Roll on Chelsea (twice!)

Wasn?t surprised by Fergie?s team selection but was surprised by how tired Everton looked in the second half. Osman & Pienaar were awful. Cahill & Fellaini weren?t much better but at least were always involved against arguably two of the best centre backs. Hibberts poor distribution was evident again and Baines seemed to have caught the disease also today.

It always looked like penalties were to be our only hope and so it proved. I don?t think we have won a game on penalties since Munchengladbach back in 1971. Playing against some Manure youngsters was probably harder than if the likes of Rooney,Ronaldo & Co were playing as they were out to impress and had young legs whereas the others may have had one mind on the next Premier League game. The penalty by Jags was no worse than the one on Pienaar early on. Just upper body contact if you look at it closer. Anyway we are due to beat Chelsea too so bring them on.

Nick, I thought Jack did a great job as well. He’s classy on the ball and good in the tackle. Loved seeing him haul down Scholes (was it?) professionally to stop a breakaway - not just a soft touch. Nice to see that we can have a bit of cynical prick about us too. All the best do.

Neville had a poor first half IMO and played too deep, symptomatic of the team really. But second half he led. And leading is what he does best. Exceptional stuff and very much responsible for the pleasure that Blues all over the world are feeling right now.

Only just awake after getting back at 1am this morning, think the result was the right one in the end, they played some good football and stopped virtually everything Man U threw at them, the comments on Man U reserves pumped about are bollocks as any of them would get a game in most prem squads.

Funny you mention Unsworth as he was there too and we saw him walking amongst the Everton fans along with Dave Hickson on the West Side of Wembley before we went in.

Finally the Man U fans inside and outside the stadium were the quietest bunch I’ve ever heard at Wembley; our lot were brilliant at the bottom of the stairs near entrance H a huge crowd singing and chanting and many more on the levels near the entrances and simply demolished any singing the Mancs did in the ground if any.

What a result! I feared for us when Tim missed the first and Jags didn't look too confident on his run up but it seems to be our year for great acheivement in the cup and it seems so much better that it's been done on a shoestring budget with all the injuries suffered this season. A truly great team to support.

Some ridiculous comments from idiots who spent the match commeting on here, so sad!!!!

I was there and have been both home and away all season. We were depleted, lost arguably our two best players to season-ending injuries, yet we're in the final!

It wasn't a spectacle but we played well for the first 25 minutes and had periods and we restricted United to long range efforts for most of the game and very rarely did they look dangerous!

So proud of everyone of them, a massive stage which we aren't used to but Man U are. No matter who they left out they still had the likes of Tevez, Vidic, Ferdinand who combined cost more than our bloody football club. But who cares, we're going to Wembley again

One last thing, to every blue that was at Wembley, I have never heard anything like it and lets have a repeat in May! And we've got Europe to look forward to AGAIN!!!!!! COYB.
