Our need of a winger!

Seeing Osman, our first name on the teamsheet as a right winger when he is clearly a central midfielder, is depressing. Dead depressing. I know Osman has his fans and I am one of them, but I think he is over-used and needs a rest badly. He's not a first teamer for me but a very useful squad player.
This leads on to the summer... a right winger please! When was the last time we had a winger who wanted to dribble at players, see them perform stepovers and cross the ball?Kanchelskis was the last class one... and that was over 10 years ago!
It is just common sense and I'm still shocked that this hasn't been sorted out yet with Smith and then Moyes. To all of the Moyes lovers out there, I'm not slagging him off, I think he is a very good manager. But if you were the so called great manager, they would say our team has no width and our attacks only come from the brilliant partnership of Baines and Pienaar. Nothing comes from our other flank. No attack... absolutely nothing! It needs to be addressed sooner rather than later if we want a top 4 spot.
Our last good link was Trochowski from Hamburg... German international, very tricky, good crossing and can play at both flanks... he'll do!

Ben Jones, spot on. In fact I think we need two wingers - one or two who can cover both flanks. What if Pienaar gets injured? No cover. Also, he is off to the AFCON most likely mid season. It would also give us variation and the ability to change tactics if we had a bigger pool of players with differing attributes. However, I’m not sure we’ll ever have a nice big squad with our finances...
I think Gosling is showing signs that he could be ready to step up.
As i have said previously, i think a right sided player is Moyes’s priority, hence he tried to sign the Nigerian lad (his name escapes me) from Milan, only for it to fall through on permit issues.
It will be his first signing, and if the right side becomes as good as the left, then we have a team.
So has anyone got any suggestions as to who they would prefer ? Trochowoski is a talented lad.
What interested me though was a comment made by Moyes recently about Gus Hiddink, on the lines that he had talked to him about Russian players, and Hiddink gave his assessment, oh for another Kanchelskis /
PS Mark, do you mind me asking, is your mother called Sheila ? as i may know you
Great wingers under Moyes. Ginola, Alexanderson, Shandy, Kilbane, McFadden, Davies... Tal?
We’re reportedly getting Nani on loan in the summer
wouldn’t mind getting Joaquin from Valencia for around 10 million pounds he’s got lightning pace, good skills and he is a very good crosser. He’s for sale too. full spain international
Dalmat from S.liege has stood out as the best player on the pitch every time i have seen him, very pacy, works hard and looks a threat, he gave us and the shite the runaround over both legs, made lescott look pedestrian, very simular to kanchelskis in my eyes, i’d be suprised if moyes has’nt made enquires. his value?? would’nt have a clue.
Would like to see the lad from Cardiff Joe Ledley, Think he’s a typical Moyes player, hard working, strong, good team player & not a sulking superstar.
lf we could scrape enough cash for ledley and bentley, think they’d both be available, it would be an excellent summers work in my opinion but it would be a big if?
Agree with Carl there. Dalmat raped us and was the biggest single reason we did not progress to the group stage. Maybe not the best transfer policy just to buy players who did well against us but I’m sure Moyes will have had him watched since then.
Pity we didn’t take the plunge when Arshavin played so well at Goodison for Zenit in December 2007. He’s half decent now isn’t it...
Defour would be excellent from S.Liege but unfortunately rated at about £20m.
Bentley no chance. Not an Everton/Moyes type player. Over-rated and over-valued.
Ledley is more left-sided or central. Jury still out whether he would cut it at a top 6 side.
Joaquin would be excellent, but again unfortunately a bit pricey for Everton standards.
Nani would be good especially on loan for a season. This would be more of a Moyes deal. Fingers crossed.
It’s difficult to get a balance. Everton are now at the stage where we need top drawer players to make the step up into the top 4, but unfortunately these are expensive (Defour, Joaquin) and we are unlikely to have bucket loads of money this summer. If you go for a lesser known player, the value is a lot cheaper but you take more of a risk whether they turn out to be the quality that we need.
I’d think that Michael Kightly of Wolves would be a good gamble. Probably rated at about £6m although this may increase now due to Wolves’ promotion. Still young and hard working who can create and score.
Im sure dalmat played for spurs a few seasons ago lads...never cut it, hence the move
id go for kranjcar - and move pienaar to the right
Leon is an absolutely top player and his ability to play all over the park is a strength! First name on my teamsheet regardless!
Danijel Pranjic would be a good player for Everton. Great left foot.
FC Twente’s Elia would also be a good signing. Great skill and pace. Would love to see him in an Everton shirt too.
Dalmat is the cousin of the former spurs player
Sorry Willfried Dalmat is the younger brother of the former spurs player stephane.
James Anderson, Pigs will be cleared for take off when Ossie unleashes his awesome power on Chelsea.
I got slated for mentioning Nani a few weeks ago but if Ronaldo stays or they get Kaka then i could see us picking him up. I would love to see us have a punt at Joe Cole he’s been injured for a while and depending on who takes over at Chelski we might just pick him up cheapish. Also Jesus Nevas from Sevilla i think, would be pricey but he’s young and skilfull and how good would it be having Jesus play for Everton!!!
James Anderson, what a ludicrous statement. Throughout his career Leon Osman, whether he has been in the centre of midfield or on the right flank, has averaged about one good game in four and never against the top teams. This season, he has only performed in about 3 games. How can he possibly be the first name on your teamsheet. Do you not realise that consistency wins tophies or are you happy to finish 6th every year?
T Marsh brings this subject up every week, I’m not sure why you feel the need to do it too. try to think of a idea for an article yourself
Anyway, if seeing Osman on the sheet is depressing . . . . dead depressing, you’ll end up a very miserable man, because guess what ? he’s staying.
Still at least we get to know who the lates Utube stars are
Wow....a thread about wingers and nowhere do I see the three words...Van Der Meyde
I would like to see Moyes making a cheeky bid on Babel. He is reportedly on his way out in the summer; granted, he had a "so-so" 1st season, but I trust Moyes to work on him and bring out the best from Babel. Real pacy and has a lot of goals in him.
Lee - no. Would rather take Huddlestone, very talented footballer on his day. Question marks over attitude and waistline but reckon Moyes could get the best out of him
I’d take Kightly but cant see Wolves selling him having just been promoted.
I have it on good authority that our mysterious signing is Un Der Theradar currently playing for Neverheardof FC

Our priority is a central midfielder who can play football and pass with consistency, Bar Arteta we don’t have any - after that possibly a winger...I’d like us to spend a reasonable amount (at least 10m each) on these two positions...
Given our Chairman’s record in providing the necessary funds - that’s not bloody likely though.

Anyone who suggests having that cheating little whining asshole Nani at this club needs a good slap.
There’s a reason why Fergie is looking rid.
Leon Osman first name on the Everton Team sheet- HAHAHAHAHAHA! And I suppose Ringo Star was the Beatles main member too. The sooner we get rid of Osman the better. I think Gosling deserves a run out before anyone really judges him. He certainly looks a better prospect than Osman. Give him a run in the team, see how he does, and hey if he does fine then we won’t be in too much of a rush to get a new winger. I think Gosling has started quite brightly for Everton. I wouldn’t mind Downing and possibly stick Pienaar on the other side but hey if it means Osman being dropped then I am all for it.
It’s obvious we need a winger and the only way we will get one is either
1/ Loan deal so Nani is a possibility
2/ A cheap unknown [ to us ] who may or may not do well.
3/ We splash the cash on one of the afformentioned players, but that means no one else in .
Rumours are- the Yak to Spurs and Yobo to a french side, the money from that on Kurani Shalke, Bent Spurs and a couple of foreigners. Personally i’d keep what we’ve got and go for Johnson from Portsmouth r/b and r/w he’s looked good at r/b for England and r/w for Pompey when played there, he’s also a big strong lad with a cracking shot on him and he’s tried and tested in the prem, and i bet he will want a move to a bigger club
I wouldnt switch Pienaar to the right, him and baines have struck up an excellent partnership on the left. As for Downing, I must be missing something because I think he’s terrible. Its the old he’s English and he’s got a left foot thing. Remember Steve Guppy played for England once, Downing is the modern day Steve Guppy
Osman always plays better when he plays in a more central role. He often seems out of sorts, drifting in and out of a game when Moyes sticks him on the wing.
Yes, we need a wide man. How about Giovanni from Hull?

Geovanni is not a ’wide man’..he can play on the wings but I think Hull have more than proven that he’s more effective through the middle...I’d certainly take him for that position.Him and arteta in the middle, with either rodwell/neville playing behind..or fella/cahill playing in front depending on the opposition...ummm.yes please.
Krancjar o cheryou would also fit nicely into that set-up as well...especially Cheryou.
Ciaran, I take it you mean Benoit Cheyrou at Olympic Marseille? Not his ex RS brother Bruno.
Isn’t Geovanni nearly 30? Bit of a short term solution don’t you think? Kranjcar is worth looking at if he’s cheap as he’s about 24.

Yes Neil Benoit’s the one,
I certainly don’t mean his brother...the difference between them is astounding.
Superb player who’d fit right in.
Osman will have Ballack, Essien and Mikel wrapped round his little finger ;)
Dave Wilson... I knew u’d be the only one to disagree. Maybe I did over-exaggerate the "dead depressing part"... but the fact our left hand side has been playing so well and our right and side so crap is depressing. And this article isn’t to slag off Leon Osman.. it’s a need for a winger! I like the idea of Nani... but he’s more of a left winger and I like Pienaar in the left.. but saying that.. I’d definitely take him
