Bridging the Gap

Everton in their last three campaigns have finished 9, 11 and 10 points behind 4th position. Is that what millions in Champions League gets you? At worst an average of a 10-point buffer zone?
So I have one question: what can be done differently next season to break into the top 4?
- A solid pre-season - check.
- Creativity in the middle to lessen the burden on Arteta - check.
- Erm, silmply more numbers of astute Moyes signings - check.

We have about 12 central midfielders:
Cahill
Arteta
Neville
Rodwell
Osman
Pienaar
Fellaini, and even Gosling can apparently do a job in centre mid
But no out-and-out wingers!!! A left and right winger would be great......and what we are and have always been lacking since Kanchelskis left.
We also need to hope one of the top 4 teams has an off season and suffer injuries to key players which was the case with Arsenal, but if that happens they can just go out and buy Arshavin, so its going to be very difficult
We did it a few seasons ago and with a very poor side so i still have a lot of belief. If the defence performs as it has the last few months keeping clean sheets and we add another match winner then it can be done.
