Departures mark the start of Moyes's summer spending?

Comments (30)

As many may know by now the deparures of Castillo, Valente and Andy Van de Meyde plus Kissock and Irving's release have been confirmed on the Official Site.

I believe this is a sign that Moyes is ready to start his summer spending plans after getting rid of the squad's dead wood and freeing up £40k a week in wages.

I wouldn't be surprised if in the next two weeks we see one or two new faces being added to our squad before pre-season starts. (I'm not going to bother with that "watch this space" lark..)

I wouldn?t get your hopes up, Ian. The announcements concerning released players usually come around this time ? even though their contracts don?t officially expire until June 30th, they?re given the chance to get a jump on finding new clubs.

£40k a week, you must be kidding. Try doubling that figure and you might be closer to the mark.

Let's see some new faces soon. COYB

Bently, Fanni/Hutton, Moutinho and Jo, that would be nice in the next couple of weeks!

Come on Moysie, don't keep us waiting again!

I doubt it. It will probably be left to the last minute when we Kenwright is looking under the couch for pound coins and raiding the piggy bank.

There is one name that we should be concentrating all efforts on this close season - Alexandr Hleb!!

Graham, Good shout about Hleb but why would he go from Arsenal to Barca to us? He must be on £80-100k a year and I am sure a Juve/Inter/Bayern woould be happy to take him and splash out the same sort of wages.

What about Deco? No-one mentioned him... looks a good player but being frozen out Chelski recently.

@ Ian McDowell: Deco good? Surely you jest?

As for Hleb, he is a target for Bayern, I think.

Why jest about Deco? He is a Champions League winner with two clubs, works hard and clearly has loads of class about him. I know he is old but wouldn't command a big fee.

Would you sooner have Stephen Hunt or Kieran Richardson?

I tend to go along with Scott on this one; however, the situation may change, of course, if we lose Lescott. Regardless of how much we get for him, he will obviously have to be replaced, and sticking with British players, I might be inclined to go for Wheater (and for Moyes to knock off the rough edges).

I have banged on about Bentley before and would like him at Goodison. Don't know anything about Fanni or M'bia but if the general opinion is solid, then ok. Up front, if we could afford it, would it be possible to take Jo again on loan, and buy Pavlyuchenko (he has had time now to adjust to our league)??

How to afford it, recent events have freed up some money, plus £11.2 mill for finishing fifth, the FA Cup final appearance, and recent developments regarding shirt advertising etc, plus I am going to buy 2 mugs from the Everton gift shop (£8) should allow us to throw a few bob around.

I see Saha hasn't been released ? does that mean he?s staying?

Next announcement maybe with Jacobsen?

Bentley was class at Blackburn, very similar in style/strengths to a younger Beckham. Problem is he has the same major flaw ? no pace... and also thinks he?s Beckham already! I like the idea of getting him on the cheap and Davie knocking him into shape. Let's keep it real, though; no way Deco or Hleb will be coming to Goodison...

Castillo?s departure could be due to M?Bia?s imminent arrival.

As for Hleb and Deco? huge wages & huge egos = not a chance!

As for Bentley... rather not!

Steve, Saha is on a 2-year deal with view to a third. The right side of the team is the most important for improvement; I would take Bentley and young Naughton at Sheff Utd.

Peter - have to agree with you on Naughton, looks like a good up-and-coming footballing right-back. Could be the equivalent to Baines down the right-hand side.

Don?t know too much about the lad M?Bia but reading a few things about him, at 23 sounds promising, box-to-box midfielder (hopefully in the mould of Essien!) although he is predominantly defensive.

Apart from that, and as I?ve said on a previous thread, I?d like to see players with pace brought in.

If Lescott leaves, we should try for Oguchi Onyewu from Standard Liege, he looked very good against us in the Uefa Cip last year and is team mates with Tim Howard (and obviously played with Fellaini recently). Having already been on loan at Newcastle he shouldn?t take too long to acclimatise and I believe he is out of contract.

Fulham are said to be sniffing around. I think he?s worth a punt even if Joleon stays...

I would also like to see us renew our bid for the Nigerian Obinna too, even just on loan the guy would be an asset.

When are you all going to realize that last summer's debacle is going to be the norm for the forseeable? Don't bother speculating 'til the last day of the window. Enjoy your summer.

Firstly ? thanks Nuno! Good riddance VDM and unlucky Kissock and Irving ? can?t have been far off the grade and good luck in finding a new club.

Secondly ? I think it is interesting that Jacobsen was not rreleased. It signals Moyes?s intention not to bid for either of the two good young RBs that are available at the moment (Hutton and Naughton). The money being talked about is probably a good investment, but the retention of Jacobsen proves that Moyes does not see it as a priority area. I would imagine that he will be looking at taking a left back from somewhere for nothing (purely as cover for Baines and realistically as third choice if all three CBS are available, as Lescott will shift to LB). I think he will be looking at a CM in the mould of Moutinho and a striker. I have heard no links to any speedy right wingers that most fans of the club think is needed.

I would like to see Delph brought in and Owen, plus a really good right winger with genuine pace. Forget Jo on loan, how about Saviola???

I fancy Donetz right back Srna. He is aggressive, can tackle, excellent at passing and can cross a ball as evidenced in the Uefa Cup Final.

Sorry can?t help it. The season is barely over and I?m desperate for some transfer movement...

According to setanta website.

"Everton have launched a bid for Ligue 1 star Blaise Matuidi and are about to do the same for Stephane Mbia, according to French media reports.

St Etienne midfielder Matuidi has been linked to a host of Premier League sides since breaking into Les Verts? first team and imposing himself as one of the most promising French players of his generation.

Tottenham are believed to be long-term admirers of the 22-year-old, but it is The Toffees who have made a concrete offer to Damien Comolli?s club - according to radio station RMC.

It appears that Matuidi is not the only Ligue 1 star that David Moyes is determined to lure to Goodison Park, as it is being claimed Rennes are bracing themselves for a bid for their powerhouse Mbia.

The Cameroon international, who issued a come-and-get-me plea to The Toffees and Arsenal last summer, could be allowed to leave Stade Rennais for £10 million."

Moyes will have no more than £15m million net to spend this Summer.

We need strengthening in midfield, another versatile defender and a forward plus a couple of ?Castillo?s? to make up the the squad size a bit.

In short we need more bodies and we need them all over the pitch, if we are to kick on and achieve more.

Like last summer, I fear that this close season will be a repeat of the total incompetence that might just have cost us a place in the Champions League. Talking about who we might buy used to be fun and actually pertinent. If we make a major signing within a week of the window closing, I?ll happily admit to knowing fuck all about football and change my view that Bill Kenwright is a self-serving luvvy who?s had a free ride for long enough.

All - we have to stay clear of the African players, they have the Nations Cup in January & we all know how that knocks teams at a critical part of the season.

Finally, an unashamed FM-style thread with no-one moaning about it!

Matuidi?s highly rated (by a certain management based game at least), M?Bia?s African, which means I?d rule him out as that means 4 of our first XI leaving for at least a month (or is it true that South Africa didn?t qualify?).

Basically, we need straight replacements for the three we?ve just released, Castillo, Van der Meyde and Valente. I know that sounds odd seeing as they contributed very little last season, but three replacements who contribute a lot would represent a significant improvement in our squad.

Castillo I would replace with Manuel Fernandes (still ? I think I say that about once a month). Failing that, Matuidi sounds good and Marseille captain Lorik Cana was linked with a £5M move a couple of weeks ago, that?d be a bargain.

Van der Meyde is the big one. If we ONLY signed a real top class right sided player and no-one else, we?d be a massively improved team. This is where our money should go, unfortunately there?s no outstanding candidate we can realistically expect to sign. Bentley, despite seeming like a bit of a knob, seems like the best bet, if he?s cheapish ? we?d hope Moyes would presumably knock him into shape and the professionalism and ethos of the squad would bring him into line.

Nuno Valente I would replace with Julio Arca, experienced, versatile, and a good player able to cover LB and LM (but injured right now I think).

Anything after that would be a bonus, as I don?t agree we need a right-back desperately, with a defensive midfielder signed we?d have Phil Neville and a hopefully fitter Lars Jacobsen to play there. If we do sign one, either of the Kyles (Walker and Naughton) at Sheff United would do nicely.

There is that much bullshit flying around and Everton dither that much, the only time I believe that we?ve actually signed someone is when I see 'em holding the fuckin' pen over the contract, on the tele.......

Don?t hold your breath mate.

Silly season is on once more! Bentley would be a Moyes sigining, a player looking to prove himself after a dismal season.

And how about Pienaar having a word with his old mates Sneider and Van der Vaart? Obviously they’ll never get a game at Real Madrid anymore.
