The Mail Bag

Another Triumph From Evertons Marketing Team

Comments (22)

I today received an e-mail from EFC as I do most days usually full of rubbish but hey! This made me laugh (or I would cry) The title of the e-mail was:

Get A Free DVD

It later read:

Every DVD purchased on the new-look site comes with a FREE copy of the Everton 7 Sunderland 1 DVD. The Blues' biggest league victory for a decade was one of the greatest highlights of last season for David Moyes and his squad - and if you purchase one of the many great DVDs available from the Everton DVD Store before the end of September, you will receive a FREE copy of the game on DVD.

Now imagine how perplexed I was to find that the great deal had actually expired even before they sent the e-mail!

I beginning to realise why we are the "People's Club" ? it's because we have the great "care in the community" programme... it's called our marketing team!

The club is absolutely clueless in the marketing/merchandise department. I don’t know what the problem is, I sincerely believe there are some willing people working there, but at the whole they’re doing a terrible job. The megastore is always out of stock in about 50% of the items. Apparantely it is impossible to get an Everton-shirt in a JJB-store outside Liverpool. If they have a fast-selling item (the pink shirt) it takes them half a year to order more items to satisfy demand. Last time I ordered from the online store they sent my package to South Africa. When it finally arrived, the clothes varied in sizes from some junior size ( I gave it to my nephew, 10 years old) to XXL. To clarify: I ordered three different clothing items, all in XL. It shows I ordered XL in the invoice. I didn’t receive anything in XL.

If any investor is looking to see for parts of Everton that could be made profitable with little effort, this is the department where I would start working! I’m convinced the club is missing out on loads of money in merchandise, just by doing a poor job.

I know the lack of merchandise has been mentioned many times before but its getting worse each season. I live in South Wales and a few years back, when the JJB deal was struck there was a fairly large section just for Everton in all the JJB stores, including Giant posters of the players advertising the new kit. Now theres nothing like that. Everton kits are hung up amongst the others who aren?t in the Sky 4 and in some shops there is nothing at all.

I bought last season's review last night and got the Sunderland DVD for free so it?s still valid. Maybe were not too shoddy!

Worked fine for me too, 86/87 review + P&P, with the Sunderland 7-1 thrown in, for less than £8

You cant get a shirt outside JJB, Liverpool!!, and here's me about to complain that living in Thailand, the land of Chang beer, the biggest selling beer, from the biggest brewery, the "Peoples beer", and you cant buy an Everton shirt or see us advertised at any of their events or promotions. Yet you can buy the top 4 shirts in any store, Utd and Arsenal actually have their own shops!! Here in Phuket. and yes our marketing is absolute dire, who actually runs it I don't know,it needs complete overhaul, a disgrace. I wrote to BK about this issue, even gave a UK address for reply to save on postage............., as iI know money is tight at the club, the cost of posting you know, still waiting!!

My turn to bitch and moan.

Blardy whats with the live streaming for the game 2nite?

UK and Ireland only?

I was thinking.. Okay, not home for the week, in the city.. at Aunt’s place. No Foxtel around.

Damn 24/7 pub aint gunna be open to go watch game.

Aunt’s laptop is a MAC so can’t use myp2p.eu site..

UNLESS they screen a realplayer or something?

So my last option, which I was delighted to see when loaded the Everton site.. was EVERTON TV!

WTF?!

Only commentary for Worldwide?

Half the time its only Commentary.

It should really be renamed to EVERTON RADIO! For I’ve barely ever seen a LIVE stream..

End of Rant..

I was in Madrid a few weeks back and in the big department store they have over there, El Corte inglés, they had smart Everton tracksuit tops which would do a bomb over here; official Umbro stuff it was too. Can you get them over here yet? No, of course not, not in the megastore nor online. Work that one out.

I too had an Everton mastercard........I just managed to get rid of it thankfully, after three years of complete hassle. Every statement I ever got was wrong. I spent hours on the ?phone every month trying to sort it out. I NEVER won any of the monthly draws, nor was I ever informed who had!

Final straw was the 0% interest on purchase of season tickets. That's a great offer until you buy anything else with the card. Even if you pay back in full for any supplementary purchases you end up paying interest because they take any money you send in off the season ticket purchase. So why bother with an interest free period to help you spread out the payments. It does not encourage you to spend anything else on the card. So what do EFC gain?

I agree with all of the above. Everton TV is crap I am about to cancel, as there are only a few boring interviews with the players, no real insight, no fun, few games, and the resolution at other than postcard size is horrible.

I too went to JJB last week before we played the darkside. The was 2 double sided shelves about 6 feet long and a few racks of odd sized kids and adult shirts and t shirts. Not enough sizes to satisfy anyone but the vertically challenged or men resembling 5 feet oranges!

I wanted some training gear and could easily have had Darkside stuff and even a choice of Arsenal wear but little in the way of Everton gear. We need to bin off JJB and our marketing team and get OXFAM in, they do a smart line in clothes at minimal cost and cater for everyone. They also have shops on all the main high streets!

Our marketing is atrocious. No other word for it

It should be blatantly obvious that a city-centre Everton store is needed. There are plenty going begging. You would hardly know we exist at all.

For £40 a year, EvertonTV is EXCELLENT value. Bitching about a service that gives you exclusive content on the club for 76p a week... 11p a day ... 365 days a year is just petty, IMO.

The fact Everton cannot broadcast tonight’s game beyond the UK and ROI has - I imagine - got NOTHING to do with the club. It is far, FAR more likely everything to do with broadcasting rights between UEFA and the terrestrial/satellite TV companies.

Being an exiled Blue, I was looking forward to watching the game on EvertonTV... the resolution on a full PC screen is EXCELLENT, given the medium used. I’m not miffed that I can’t - there are plenty of alternatives out there. Including, I might add, the possibility of viewing it through Betfair, if you have an account (and you don’t even need to deposit money to activate an account).

Oh I’m just ranting cause I was seriously gunna pay the $15 or whatever Australian to get it, JUST to watch the game 2nite but its not worth it now as its not a live stream for me ;)

I’m not one of the doomsayers of the club on here. Heheh. Just pieved I can’t watch the game 2nite unless get lucky on myp2p!

I’ve just woken up now and seen the possible links that might show up 2nite, so I’m fingers crossed here! Might even do commenary for peeps who aren’t as fortunate if can! :)

For those Evertonians outside the UK who like to get the latest kit - forget the Club shop, Kitbag.com does it less VAT and 7 quid postage - plus the shirt is 40 quid incl. VAT and not 45 as sold in the Megastore who also have the temerity to charge 25 quid postage. Shysters.

Well I guess the emails they’ve been sending to you guys are the reason they haven’t been able to reply to mine.

I sent an email on 9 Sep to confirm the price for postage overseas from the mega store (25 pound for the first item which seems a hell of a lot!).

Not having received a reply I sent a reminder on 25 Sep. This message was read the following day but I’m still waiting for a response....
