Not so Super Cup

I was a little too young to remember this, but does anyone have any memories of Everton losing the Super Cup final against Liverpool in 1986? It was for all the teams who would have otherwise played in Europe that season.
This wiki report (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Cup_(English_football)) gives an over-view but just thought it may be interesting to get some fan's views.
Howard Kendall didn't think much of it as apparently his team talk for the Norwich game was "What a waste of time this is ? out you go." Haha, excellent. Also, anyone make it to Wembley for the Zenith Data Systems Cup Finals against Forest and Palace?

You seem to like reopening old wounds, don't ya? The period of total shame for English football, precipitated upon us by those bastards from across the park, with us the ones who lost the most.
ps: The Forest game was in the Simod Cup, 1989.
Sorry, I was 8 and eating gob stoppers on the south coast of Devon, unable to appreciate the pain and thought Ian Wilson was a good player becasue he had a cap for Scotland...
I went to an away game in that rubbish - Man Utd. We beat them 4-2 in the season they started with 11 league wins.
A competition to replace the money lost by not being in Europe, according to those responsible for it. The chance to take part in that or probably being Champions of Europe? It stinks as much today as it did then.
I remember the Simod Cup. Didn?t Cottee score 3 of his pointless 100 goals in it? By pointless I mean cause we lost and all his other goals game in games we were already winning or were hat-tricks when one would have sufficed. Sorry but I hate that little man.

Right on the money!
The Screensport Super Cup was for all the teams banned from Europe after Heysel. The Heysel tragedy was the resposibility of some of the supporters of Liverpool FC and EUFA who allowed the biggest game of that or any season to be played in a run down athletics staduim. The fallout from the ban was that the best team Everton have ever assembled (and in its prime) were never allowed to compete at the highest club level, a situation that we have never recovered from. Unbelievably Liverpool won the Super Cup that year and to add insult to injury beat Everton over the 2 leg final. I will always wonder why Everton never fought the ban through the courts, but because of the horrors of Heysel any right thinking person would not have condoned such action, I think most people fell out of love with the game that year.
Went to the Forest match; they were a lot better than us and it was embarrassing how quickly we had declined form a few years before.
I remember I was working in london at the time, and going to Spurs. 0-0; shit game... we had about 300, should have been in European Cup only for the shite.
I wasn?t even born then, I was only 1 for the FA cup win vs the Mancs in 95 but my Dad is still so bitter about Heysel and the ban that it?s kinda been bred into me.
I hate Liverpool with a passion. I love Everton more but by god I love it when Liverpool loose. People talk about derbies getting too abusive and some behaviour can?t be condoned but neither really can killing 39 Italians ? and they wonder why we hate em so fucking much.
Worst club, worst fans ever.
The ZDS Cup Final... what a miserable day in every respect. Peeing down, freezing cold, crap seats and Ian Wright (I think) scored a couple in extra time - by this time the Everton end of old Wembley was deserted. Bob the Pole got one for us didn?t he?
I remember Warzycha scoring; he had one of the best moustaches in the club's history (in the 20th century at least).
While we are on the subject of final memories, what about the 1995 Charity Shield v Blackburn and Vinny Samways's cheeky chip?
I was at both the Simod & ZDS finals - I was 9 for the first one and 11 (91 ZDS Final??) for the second - think they set me up for what was in store over the next 15 years!!!!!
I was at the miserable ZDS final, we actually should have won it in normal time and then they scored with every attack in extra time, pretty gutting for someone my and the above Paul’s age and like he said it has gone on from there for 15 years. Still love the boys but they are a bunch of cnuts sometimes.
All I remember about the SSSC was that there seemed to be about 14 legs to it(I know there wasn’t it just felt like there was) and Rush scored a hatfull that contributed to him beating Dean’s derby goalscoring record. Rush had about twice the number of derby games that Dixie had thanks to these joke competitions. We also got beat by Rangers (2:1) in the Dubai Super Cup in 87.
I was at the ZDS final. It was my second time at Wembley (the first being the ’86 Charity Shield against the red sh1te which if I remember correctly our goal rebounded off the post, off Grobelar’s back and in).
Probably spent part of my first pay packet on that ticket. After being so confident, it all came tumbling down. I remember it being bitterly cold and that turned into arctic conditions after the final whistle.
Long, long journey home.
Its not surprising that we are called "Bitter Blues" by our unloved neighbours. Just read the original article again and see if you can actually answer the man’s question, instead of moaning about how the best team ever assembled etc. etc. etc. He only asked about the games, not how our collective bitterness comes to the surface on the slightest excuse to allow it to do so.
Anyway Nick, sorry mate no memories, I went to loads of games in the 80s, but must have given these a swerve. I was probably at home bitching about Liverpool and practising for later life.
So come on fellow Blues, anyone actually got any memories or are you all going to slag me off instead?
I was at the Simod Cup and FA Cup final in ?89 (although the less said about the latter the better!). Two Wembley visits and two AET defeats in a matter of months. Was gutted!
Cottee didn?t score a hattrick in the Simod Cup final as someone suggested, but he did score two of our 3. Also remember Parker banging in 2 for Forrest, but I was only 8 at the time and can?t remember too much else!
I went to the Sion Cup final with a car load of tricky trees fans, namely my family. It was a fucking miserable day as we lost after a close match over all. We should have won. To top it off, we were sat right in the roofline behind the goal with all the Forest fans. My dad wouldn?t let me celebrate the Everton goal.
Oh well, who's laughing now....
Talking about shite tonight, me and my good friend Smig actually remember lads going to both grounds and supporting both teams. We spoke about the hatred that has emanated over the last few seasons and brought it down to this: Everton barred out of Europe by Thatcher for stuff our own fans would have done. Liverpool not capable of winning the only trophy they want for years.
Discussion is good...
