The Mail Bag

Yet again we prove we are 'The People's Club...'

Comments (21)

Latest news breaking today is that Everton have changed their main phone number to an 0870 number.

http://evertonfc.com/news/archive/new-phone-number.html

Great... we now pay a flat rate of 10p per min.

Do they not realise that most people get FREE minutes on their mobiles and landline phones to other landline numbers?

OR, perhaps they do realise, and have latched onto this idea possibly as a money spinner?

Yet again, evidence of the club trying to take us for mugs.

Most companies use 0870 now cannot blame club for getting in on act I suppose. It wont make the extra billions we need though.

0870 wont make the club much money, but it does decrease call volume, what with people no longer being able to use their FREE minutes to whine about everything and nothing!

The club needs all the money they can get just to pay the manager’s new inflated salary!

Phil... I totally disagree with you.

Look at eBay.. the 8th most popular site in the UK.. and also holds one of the biggest brands and monopoly - have recently introduced a Customer Support number... which isn’t an 0870.

Its a BLATENT attempt to squeeze an extra bit of money out of the ones that make the club what it is.. us.. the fans.

Manchester United recently took a step in the oposite direction by reverting all their numbers to 0161 ’in an effort to make the Club more accessable to all our followers.’

Anybody who fell for that maudlin piece of sycophantic gesturing in the first place..isn’t half gullible.

Everytime I hear that moniker it puts me into rage..

Can I request that this phrase is banned from toffeeweb?

It’s an embarassment

"The People's Club".... it's a funny phrase considering how desperate we all are to off-load the club to the nearest billionaire!!

It?s 10p a minute ffs grow up, what next? Free tickets to prove were the People's Club. We all want Everton to be a well run successful club. The club can only make money off one group of people and that's us!!!!

Ste and Sheisablue: are you so gullable that you think any extra money they cream of us = transfer budget?? They are creaming more of us to line their pockets before the big sell off. If there’s no sell off, prepare for loads of excuses on why we cant spend any money - whilst the whole time ticket prices are going up, as are little incentives like the phone line jobby. Grow up and FFS wake up. Otherwise recommend you stand aimlessly in a field following a shepherd.

Joeynkoo, I take it that means you won’t be going to Goodison again, or buying any Everton merchandise, or subscribing to Everton TV?

FFS, the club is millions of pounds in debt, where do you think the money has gone?? Into the shareholder’s pockets?? Pretty difficult if the company doesn’t make a profit. Into BK’s wallet? Oh, hang on, he doesn’t take a salary. Or maybe it’s been spent on the players’ transfer fees and wages. Yeah, I think that must be it.

Not sure how that means they’re lining their pockets though....

If the thought of a football club trying to operate itself more commercially offends you, then you’re not in the real world!

Very strange. I have just received a mail from EFC telling me that the new number is 0871 etc.
Whether this makes any difference to the cost I don’t know.

I couldn't give a fuck if its £10 a minute, if I?m not happy with it, I'll go online or walk up the ticket office. The board piss me off as much as the next Tony Marsh/Jay Harris etc. but don't moan when there's no money for players and then moan when the club try and make a bit of money.

And while were on the subject of how Man U make their club more accessible to their fans go and ask a Manc how accessible tickets are, or how pleased they are to be forced to buy tickets for every cup game when you get a season ticket!!!

The People's Club quote was said as a reference to the man (woman) on the street supporting Everton rather than Liverpool, not because of the relationship between the board and the fans!!!

I think its a disgrace as surley we only ring the club when there is a problem etc. I was born a blue and have only ever had reason to phone the club to make arrangements for a family funeral. Yes, sell us blue hot dogs if you like, but leave the phones alone.

Sorry Mr Kenny, you are totally wrong. My grandson is a Manc and simply by dialling an 0161 number I have obtained tickets for two United games this season both of which were excellent specs. On the other hand, I have seen all OUR home games and only at The Liege game was I not behind a post!

Surely all clubs should make themselves accessible to their supporters and not put barriers between them. Everton are about as ?People orientated? as British Gas!

Mac,
Every time I've had reason to phone EFC, the call has lasted no more than 5 mins. If you consider 50p to be a big deal fair play, I don't. My point is there are a number of other ways to contact the club that are free. Man Utd have systematically ripped their fans off for a number of years. I know this because a few of my mates are ex-Manc season ticket holders who now support FC United because of the way the club treated their fans.

If you go to the website www.saynoto0870.com and search for Everton, you can reach the same people by calling 0151 3302200. I’ve used this website for years to find alternate numbers to save me money cos I’m not paying premium rate lines!!

My opinion is that this is a load of hot air. Why do people think that they shouldn’t have to pay if they want something. The amount of money is negligible.

Caoimhin - 0871 is not a premium rate line. Those numbers begin 09 and cost a hell of a lot more than 10p a minute. However, I respect your determination to avoid unnecessary costs and appreciate the info you have provided.

I know people will disagree, but surely there are better issues to discuss than this. Some people are looking too hard for a reason to take a dump on the club. There are plenty to choose from at the moment, but IMHO this one is pathetic.
