Our season starts... when?

Every Evertonian I have spoken to is convinced we shall get nothing from this Saturday's game versus Man United. Such is the sense of resignation that the scene seems set for yet another home defeat as we turn up to witness, rather unwillingly, another landmark in the career of a former hero.
Now Doddy keeps telling us 'our season stars now' but his 'now' seems to have become a moveable feast whilst Marshy is convinced the season will never get underway because we're, well...... doomed!
So what's the truth of it?
If we get nowt off the Mancs (has it really come to this?), can we expect our next opponents ? Bolton, Fulham, West Ham, Middlesbrough, Wigan and Spurs to just roll over to kick start our campaign? I think not. By the time we play that little lot, their needs may be as great as ours and I suspect we're in for an autumn dog-fight.
Having over-dosed on the doom and gloom ? it seems to go with the turf these days ? I`ve been searching for a few positives, so here goes!
Firstly, we've always been pretty good at dealing with downtable teams. Few of the 'graveyard set' have escaped with points when playing us in recent seasons and we've got reasonable records against most of that lot.
Secondly, for all our pessimism, there HAVE been signs of improvement in our last three matches. We seemed far more able to string a few passes together against Liege, walked away with the first halves against Newcastle and the Mighty Arsenal. Oh, and Davey said that 'we played better' in all those games and was pleased at the youngsters' progress.
Now I desperately want to believe these signs of revival (hardly the right word though, is it?) but I'm shitting myself that if we get really hammered on Saturday, confidence will decimate and we shall really be back to square one!
But that's where I came in! So just when will our season start???

Eddie, here's some truth: The season started on Saturday 16 August 2008. Anyone who thinks or says otherwise is obviously an idiot. I hope this helps.
As regards the results of matches that haven't been played yet, we'll just have to wait and see. I can only suggest some football manger game or fantasy football. Doesn't anyone do The Pools anymore???
Doddy stating "our season starts on saturday" is just another one of his wind ups, we should start ignoring him as he craves the attention.
Exactly MK, the season started on the 16th of August and 100% should be given in every game, not just the games that we think we can win. All this talk of "let's forget the United game" and "our season starts against Bolton" is unbelievable. People come on here and slaughter players for having the exact same attitude, I just hope the players are not getting wind of this cos it will be the perfect excuse to think its ok to roll over and die. Even through the dark days of Walker, Kendall 2nd an 3rd time and Smith all Evertonians showed belief and a never say die attitude but the amount of Evertonians who have given up recently is alarming. In my opinion the fans were the only reason Everton FC never whent into oblivion in the 90s cos we refused to let ourselves and the players give up. It's scary to think were we might end up if we ?The fans? give up now.
I am fed up with hearing about the dark days of Walter Smith.Walter kept us up with absolutely fuck all to spend.David Moyes has had six years, a fortune,in comparison ,to spend, and these days are just as dark.In addition he’s being paid a bloody obscene amount for someone who has achieved absolutely nothing.
Lewis,I’m not giving up but I feel the darkest days are still to come.
Fulham will roll over they always do at Goodison
Tommy, I’m glad someone said that. I found it odd that everyone took "Doddy" seriously. I think some of the others on here were set for a spell in hospital the way they were taking the bait. As far as the original post goes, here’s hoping for a successful relegation battle.
Thanks for that,Stu.Watched that a few times just now and felt the hair on the back of my neck stand on end. Reminded me what we are capable of as a club.I dont know how but we need to return to great football like that...Its a Grand Old Team to play for....
Shane, I?m sorry that more people don?t take me seriously! I?m sure the manager and players as well as everyone on here should go into EVERY game believing that it?s winnable and can therefore kick-off our season. Just discounting games like Arsenal and Man Utd is no way of supporting your team ? unless, of course, you?re Tony Marsh who only gets off on defeat!
I like most think we will lose tomorrow. Partly because of their recent form but mostly to do with our form against the sky4. We just never look like getting more than a 0-0. This season things look slightly different, we look as though we are willing to attack these teams, but yet I can’t see us coming out with anything better than a 2-2!
I hope this is because we now believe we can actually get a result against the sky4 and NOT that we just now play for a score draw instead.
A bit of due luck, never say die and dogs at war for 90 mins. Put that in your pipe and smoke it Rooney!
I just want the boys to put in a really good performance on Saturday, obviously I wana win but at the very least I want to see some fight. I don't want to watch another game like the derby. But I'm not going on to the official website again until after the match because if I have to read anouther article from a player about how they want this and that to happen and how the fans can really help drive the team, on I?ll go nuts! Just shut your mouths and go out and do it yourselves, with or without the fans backing, your pros. i don't need people at my work to shout and cheer me on to get a job done and I don't get paid even half as much as footballers do! If you can't get up for playing for a win against Man U yourselves then your in the wrong job boys!
