Sick and tired!

Comments (12)

I am sick and tired of people making up all sorts of stories about our summer of transfer woe. I am not talking about a lack of money or bad decision making, simply the facts, then I hope I don't have to read another 'made up story' about it.

1 ? Moutinho
A - His agent indicated he would come.
B - Moutinho publicly said he would come
C - Sporting accepted out bid (around £17mil).
D - We showed them the structure of our bid (as is usual in world football) and they asked for it all up front. Deal dead a week before the deadline.

2 ? M'Bia A/B--see above
C - They asked for time to consider it so they could tempt him to stay for 1 final year.
D - He agreed to stay for a year.
Deal dead a week before the deadline.

3 ? Other signings ? during this time we thought we would get Moutinho/M'Bia as the deals were so close so we moved on cheap options as we were going to be out of cash.

4 ? Fellaini was signed after a 'rumoured' tentative enquiry last season. Liege would not budge on the asking price until Moyes upped the bid and closed the deal in Belgium.

Whether we were unlucky or left it too late, these are the simple facts of the summers goings on. Let's move on now and get behind the team we have and hope they all come good.

Mark, you say you work for Inter Milan and your insider pitch gives you access to this information, which has not, AFAIK, appeared anywhere in the general media. That privileged position gives you greater insight into what is really going on, and I think you tried to share a lot of what you were hearing on your grapevine with us throughout the Summer from Transfer Hell.

Without going back over it in detail though, I'm sure the transfer market featured anything but the consistency and simplicity of the "simple facts" you state in your post. Face it, the whole business is a very messy one with all sorts of so-called truths flying around. I'm highly cynical of it all to be honest, and that's what makes me "sick and tired"!

Hmm. Well, just based on following the media (meticulously) over the summer, I think that’s a pretty neat and succinct summary.

It does make me think what we would be like with Moutinho and M’bia in our side, though :-(

Mark,
before negotiations started, could Everton have not asked the clubs involved, how they would like to be paid? And if they couldn?t agree, Everton could have moved on far earlier than they did. This club is being managed by idiots.

MK -- It?s AC Milan mate :) soon to be club Beckham by accounts.

As far as I am aware (and I?m no expert) the transfer process is something like this.

1-- Agent and 3rd party club speak.
2-- 3rd party club puts in an offer
3-- If accepted in principle they then thrash out the details of payment structure.

Personally I think we were very unlucky as the players we wanted (Mbia and Moutinho) wanted to come here. Obinna but for a permit would be a flyer too.

I?m happy with Fellaini though as even before today i thought he looked great only his positioning defensively was dodgy.

Hi John,

I was in Tokyo running the 1st 2 FX funds in Tokyo...so all I?ve ever done is finance. I then moved to Singapore but didn?t like my job so started looking around.

One evening I met a friend for drinks and his ?older? Italian mate was turning up later on--we all started chatting about life etc and then the Italian chap says?

"I know you 2 are British, but I may have something going on with AC Milan here in the Asean region. They are looking for people to do various things here. either of you like football?".

I chatted about their heritage all their players past/present who I liked and after making a 2 hour presentation the following week got the job of MD for Singapore. At the moment I?m focusing on setting up kids camps (4 a year 120kids a pop) in Singapore plus various other events.

They should be televised in 09 in Singapore and I?m looking for sponsors to cover the costs of these at the moment. So at the moment only small stuff though middle of next year I should be in Indonesia where things should really take off.

As this is an Everton website I should say that I?m hoping to put something together for Everton in June/July next year.... that?s something a little special and similar to the Chinese/Thai stuff at the moment--though all a process.

Otherwise I received the info as MK mentioned earlier from a sponsor of Moutinho. Not really through my direct knowledge though obviously a good source.

If anyone is interested in doing something in the ASEAN region with Everton especially then feel free to ask MK / LL etc for my email. Cheers.

Mark, I don?t dispute your dealings and "insider" sleight; I do however question how other clubs in the same market place do deals a whole lot quicker ? the summer transfer window was a whole lot longer if you include the end of our domestic season as the starting point at which to approach players? agents with initial enquiries and tentative offers.

The business dealings of Everton are a shambles and as indicated by Black Bill he didn?t have a pot to piss in until the Sky money cleared, QED your transfer window became very very very narrow.

I smell bullshit. Just like the inside info on transfers you gave all summer which was in fact 3-day old rumour mill nonsense. I don't believe a word.

Gavin ? I imagine that we were waiting for the sale of Andy Johnson before we had a sufficient amount of cash to sign the players.

Also M?Bia and Obinna were at the olympics.

Sally ? Obviously you didn?t read what and when I posted the info ? sadly you now appear very foolish.

Another thing. As far as I am aware, the manager at Everton, like the manager at every other club, gives the chairman and CEO a list of players they want to buy at the start of the transfer window. The chairman and CEO then take over and are responsible for negotiating and trying to get those players in. The whole process has very little to do with the manager. So Everton’s inability to capture early signings is nothing to do with ’dithering’ by Moyes - it’s more likely lack of funds that Kenwright has. And to be fair to Kenwright - he’s put more into Everton than I ever have.

I hope you?re still checking this thread, Mark, because you helped ruin my summer! I remember your posts very well.

Firstly, you said we were signing Moutinho, then you said we weren?t and we had fuck all money... then you said again that we were signing Moutinho again, and you didn?t have a clue where we?d got the money from.

This sounds anything but simple. Also M'Bia had publicly declared that he wanted to sign for us so I very much doubt he agreed to stay for another year. It was much more likely Rennes didn?t want to take staged payments.

You are probably best suited to sticking to stories about AC Milan because, after the shite you spun all summer, it?s very hard to believe anything you say.
