Site Refresh

In addition to a bit of a facelift, ToffeeWeb has undergone some changes "under the bonnet", as it were, particularly with regard to the Membership centre and our interactive sections (MailBag, articles, etc). If you experience any problems with logging in or adding comments, please contact the Webmaster.

We recommend that if you are currently logged into the site that you click the "log out" link in the top right-hand corner of the site and then return to the homepage.

Then, log back in again by clicking the "Existing Member Login" link.

We are moving around the site and updating links to the older article pages as well as fixing bugs as we find them but, again, if you spot anything that is clearly broken, let us know and we'll add it to the list of fixes.

Thanks for your support and please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Cheers,

The ToffeeWeb Team

Just noticed the appearance changes to the TW site. I like the colour combos and the font change for the banners. (Is that what you call it?) and the subsection titles like "The Rumour Mill", "Recent Articles", "From the Mailbag"...

Nice! :-)

I know it's what we're all thinking but once in a while it needs saying; ToffeeWeb is simply by far the most incredible independent (or official) football site... end of. Thank you Michael, Lyndon & Co. COYB.

Thanks TW, new theme and use of colours are class.

Now we need to replicate that on the field. COYB

Of all the great things about this site, one plus which won't get a mention is the league table on the home page.
All othe websites have your expanded Home and Away sections, this is the only one to have the far more useable standard table. Just thought it worth a mention :)

I like the new format, it reminds me of two interfaces (?) ago where the sections were more defined than the one just been. Though the decreasing shade of blue which separates the posts starts too pale to make a difference.

Actually foget that last bit, it was just the angle of the screen....

Can I suggest that on the main page where the main articles and mail bag topics are that at the end of those ones there is a link to the page where the previous articles are? Sometimes a good debate is killed dead by it falling ’off the screen’, and it takes a while to find it as you forget whether it’s an article a mail bag item, etc, which is a shame.

Lads, as a web boy myself, can I just say that you have produced sheer class here. It’s got a kind of retro feel to it, but with shades of post-modernism to boot ;)

ToffeeWeb has always been boss as far as i’m concerned where content’s concerned. You’ve managed to make it more classy in terms of look now as well.

Fantastic job. Usability is far superior as well. Now lets hope that the football can mirror the site!

Looks bloody spiffing chaps. Just refreshed the page, and was greeted by good old Dixie on the top banner.

Here’s hoping for a good win tonight. COYB

Question for the Gents at Toffeeweb Towers.

Could the Badge at the top left of the Screen, link back to the homepage?

Cheers.

Lyndon does a great job with these periodic facelifts, and behind the scenes, the structure of the site and the various data-driven components are simply first class.

Derek, click on the MailBag heading or the Recent Articles heading block to get a fuller list of recent contributions, and scroll down to the bottom of those pages for more archive links. (I need to set one up for the January Mailbag!)

Dave Davies, the Fans section is under Site & Community | Fans Online.

Shaun, we used to have the badge do that.. can’t remember why we stopped, but the header comes up on most current pages, and ’HOME’ is right there...

Thanks to you all for your continuing support, interest and (above all) contributions, which is what now mostly defines the site. Keep ’em coming!

Michael Kenrick - I do find them in the end! but sometimes the hassle of looking to the articles then the mailbag etc when you’re in work with a window open the size of a stamp makes it not worth the hassle.

You have say 5 mail bag and articles on the page at each time if there was a direct link under the 5th one to previous articles/mail then I reckon that would keep alive some interesting debates.

Also what’s your distinction between a mailbag item and a fan article?

First off, thanks for the kind words and also for your patience while we iron out any kinks. Secondly, thanks for the suggestions for things we might add or change — we do this for you, the reader, so anything you think would make the site better for you, let us know and we’ll take it into consideration.

Onto a couple of issues raised above:
  1. The badge/logo link back to the homepage was supposed to be there but had gone AWOL but should now be working, so thanks Shaun for catching that.
  2. Derek, I’ve added a "More from the Mail Bag" link under those 5 links and will do the same or the articles when I’ve got a catch-all page for all the article types (Columns, Fan Articles, Editors’ Blog, etc) sorted out.

To answer your question re: the distinction between Fan Articles and MailBag submissions, the latter we regard as "Letters to the Editor" type messages that are generally shorter and often pose questions or thoughts for discussion; the former are intended more like newspaper-style opinion pieces.

Great work guys! I love the new look! I wish my website could look something like this!

Just to point out that the badge/logo link is not working....

Reflective honeycombs with a cold western front:

Oooh, new design looks nice!

Good first half, shame about the second.

Nice new look and feel to the site and considerably better looking than Pravda. Really enjoyed the auto refresh thread for the Sunderland game although my web client both Firefox and Chrome did error twice and needed a logout login to fix, but worked well besides that.

Lyndon - I have just remembered that it would be impolite not to comment -

Looks good, but the grey wash makes the players look a bit Greek statuesque - was that intended?

Navigation seems fine and easy enough.

Thanks and keep going.
