Does anyone know whether it’s possible to watch this on EvertonTV if you’re outside of the UK?

I’ve been screwed on this before.

I’m just happy to be watching the game at a respectable hour (10pm) rather than the usual 2-3am. Hooray!

If I sign up for Everton TV now, will I be able to view the game, or will it take x amount of time to process my registration?

Is this the earliest matchday thread ever on TW?
Simon Birkett
4   Posted 02/08/2009 at 11:44:59

If you register now you can watch the match in time. I would like to point out, however, I had trouble watching on Google Chrome switched to Internet Explorer and worked fine. I registered about 10 mins before River Plate and watched ok. As for use abroad, I think some people have had problems but it can be overcome apparently, workaround was posted in some other matchday thread somewhere.

Hey, it’s an opportunity to see the kind of "world class" stadium we could be moving to.

According to the Coventry website, Lescott isn't even on the bench — see you, Joleon...
Simon Birkett
7   Posted 02/08/2009 at 12:13:55

Apparently a knock injury.
Richard Murray
8   Posted 02/08/2009 at 12:14:20

With Moyes’s comments in the press today, I think it’s safe to say he’s off.
Simon Birkett
9   Posted 02/08/2009 at 12:20:37

anyway expected everton team as follows

Nash
Hibbet, Yobo, Rodwell, Baines
Neville
Vaughan, Fellaini, Cahill, Osman
Jo
Kev West
10   Posted 02/08/2009 at 12:26:58

No Lescott, Pienaar or Saha in the squad.
Ian Barker
11   Posted 02/08/2009 at 12:31:40

Hmmm... Sharpy seems happy that Lescott is injured and nothing more. I think we are in a win/win situation, the money has got so high now that if it was £30 million it would be decent business anyway.

On a general note, it really shows how thin our squad is at the moment! Baxter and Wallace our best substitutes — bad times! (Although Wallace looks like a tidy player.)

Will be nice to see the ball passed out of defence!!
Nick Marsh
13   Posted 02/08/2009 at 12:50:54

Cahill!!!!!!! Great work by Jo!
Richard Murray
14   Posted 02/08/2009 at 12:54:33

Jo is looking a lot sharper than last season; promising.
Glen Anderson
15   Posted 02/08/2009 at 12:53:44

Nick, what was the goal like and how is Rodwell coping at the back?
Richard Murray
16   Posted 02/08/2009 at 12:55:07

What a miss! Coventry’s Leon Best just missed an open goal from about two yards!
Brendan Fox
17   Posted 02/08/2009 at 12:52:24

Hibbert is woeful he cannot seem to pass to his team mates. Such a lack of composure it is untrue, it’s a shame that Seamus Coleman is injured as he has looked lively in some of the pre-season games.
Richard Murray
18   Posted 02/08/2009 at 12:57:42

Are you joking Brendan? Are you watching the game?

Hibbo’s played a few good balls in so far and has been one of our better players in the opening half an hour.
Richard Murray
19   Posted 02/08/2009 at 12:58:59

Hand ball by Coventry defender - no penalty, though.

Very comfortable at the moment.

Rodwell’s been out jumped a few times at the back but mostly has had nothing to do.

Vaughan looks pretty rusty up front.
Ian Barker
20   Posted 02/08/2009 at 13:02:00

Agreed Rich, that's unfair on Hibbo. Vaughan and Fellaini have been poor, Hibbo has been fine.
Nick Marsh
21   Posted 02/08/2009 at 12:58:34

What ya on about Brenden... Hibbo's crossing has been superb today as has his passing!!

Glen, Jo turned his man and pulled it back for Cahill who hit it first time; it was blocked but he followed it up.
Wesley Coles

Any other links apart from Evertontv?

Cheers!
Brendan Fox
23   Posted 02/08/2009 at 13:01:21

Richard, I am watching the game and, from what I can see, every time Hibbo gets the ball he looks like a rabbit between the headlights! 95% of the passes he has played have been behind the man or just dinked up in the air.
Richard Murray
24   Posted 02/08/2009 at 13:11:02

Ball drops to Osman about 20 yards out, brings it down well, shoots - just over.
Brendan Fox
25   Posted 02/08/2009 at 13:09:25

Baines and Jo the standout performers so far. Vaughan looks well off the pace.
Richard Murray
26   Posted 02/08/2009 at 13:12:08

1 -1

Bad defending. Rodwell allows Morisson to turn in the box and put a low cross in. Tap in from two yards.
Richard Murray
27   Posted 02/08/2009 at 13:13:27

As someone who was less than convinced by Jo last season, he’s looked a lot more composed in pre-season — especially today. He could be a real coup if he continues to improve.

Fellaini shoots low from 20 yards, keeper palms it away. Corner wasted.
Brendan Fox
28   Posted 02/08/2009 at 13:13:03

Jack looking a bit lost at CB, Certainly at fault for the goal. No clean sheets in any of the pre-season games so far does not bode well.
Richard Murray
29   Posted 02/08/2009 at 13:22:59

Half time, 1-1. Very low tempo. Jo’s been the real stand out so far. We don’t look very penetrating and, to an extent, a bit like a side with, arguably, its five best players not on the pitch.

Would like to see Baxter and Wallace given a run out in the second half.
Simon Birkett
30   Posted 02/08/2009 at 13:30:32

Brendan, you say that 95% of Hibbo’s passes have been behind the man or just dinked up in the air... I’m sorry but dinking the ball in the air and it landing on our player's head inside the opposition penalty area is called a cross and as such a good pass. It's been Vaughan who has been playing it behind the man, when passing it to Hibbo on 3 separate occasions; me thinks you a bit confused.

On a separate note, I agree that Vaughan and Felli have looked off-pace, Vaughan has had little opportunity in front of goal, and Fellaini seems to be pushed out on left, so I will still like to see them get another 15 minutes at least in 2nd half
Brendan Fox
31   Posted 02/08/2009 at 13:28:30

As much potential as Jack has I think Moyes needs to play him in one position and stick to his guns.
Brendan Fox
32   Posted 02/08/2009 at 13:40:27

Too many square pegs in round holes!
Richard Murray
33   Posted 02/08/2009 at 13:42:40

Good approach play by Osman, dummies a man and threads it through to Jo. Jo takes it down well and shoots across goal. His shot is tipped wide by the keeper. Good move.
David Nicholls
34   Posted 02/08/2009 at 13:45:21

Sorry Brendan, I completely disagree with regards Rodwell. It will do him no harm whatsoever to play a few games against Championship opposition at centre back, I don’t envisage him playing there in a competitive fixture for a couple of years unless injuries force him to, which is what has happened today... hopefully!
Brendan Fox
35   Posted 02/08/2009 at 13:48:31

Great turnout from the travelling masses! Would like to see Wallace for Fellaini and Baxter for Vaughan.
Richard Murray
36   Posted 02/08/2009 at 13:58:10

Great turn and shot by Fellaini with his left foot. Keeper makes a good save and pushes it over.

Resulting corner wasted - again.
Brendan Fox
37   Posted 02/08/2009 at 13:58:44

Good luck to Danny Gosling for the Under 19’s today!
Steven Barton
38   Posted 02/08/2009 at 14:09:59

To Nick Vietch, did you manage to connect to Everton TV. I’m outside the UK and couldn’t connect. Head wrecking.

I’m sure I’ll have better joy watching England U19 later even though I haven’t paid 40 quid to watch that!
Richard Murray
39   Posted 02/08/2009 at 14:09:17

Baxter and Wallace on for Cahill and Hibbo.

And then Agard for Vaughan - who was very disappointing.
Nick Veitch
40   Posted 02/08/2009 at 14:17:07

Hi Steven,
EvertonTV is working perfectly for me. I’m sorry to hear it’s not working for you. When did you sign up?

The EvertonTV commentators even mentioned an email i wrote into them about Cahill inspiring the Aussie cricket team to take 2 wickets.
Richard Murray
41   Posted 02/08/2009 at 14:19:40

Wallace looks good. Never loses possession.
Nick Veitch
42   Posted 02/08/2009 at 14:19:34

Great goal, Baxter!
Richard Murray
43   Posted 02/08/2009 at 14:20:07

2-1 Great goal.

One-two with Fellaini on the edge of the box - great strike into the bottom corner.
Brendan Fox
44   Posted 02/08/2009 at 14:18:47

Good finish by Baxter — he certainly looks a natural finisher, Wallace has looked good on the ball as well.
Nick Veitch
45   Posted 02/08/2009 at 14:22:45

As much as I hate to say it (being Australian) I think Wallace looks better in that midfield role than Cahill does. I just wish we’d play Tim in his best position. I just don’t think both Fellaini and Cahill can play in the same team and be effective.
Damn poor defending there!
Brendan Fox
46   Posted 02/08/2009 at 14:22:53

Keystone cops defending!
Richard Murray
47   Posted 02/08/2009 at 14:22:51

2-2

Awful defending again. Baxter let his man get away. Soft header into the ground by the Coventry player that Yobo should've have cleared and Howard could've saved. Poor.
Richard Murray
48   Posted 02/08/2009 at 14:25:51

2-2, full time.

Jo MotM.

Piss funny... TW faster than Pravda, they still have it as one a piece.

50   Posted 02/08/2009 at 14:31:17

I know this was mentioned in the last game but what’s happening with Pienaar? Is he injured? I just got my new jersey for the season and got Pienaar’s number as he played so well toward the end of the season. Anyone know if he’s injured?
Cheers
Richard Murray
51   Posted 02/08/2009 at 14:34:31

Yes, Nick, they said that he had picked up a knock in training before the MLS game - didn’t sound like anything serious.

I was half expecting him to play today, but they’re obviously not taking any chances with him.

Would be hoping to see him get a game in at least one of the friendlies next week.
Nick Veitch
52   Posted 02/08/2009 at 14:38:02

Cheers Richard. Good to know. Just with the contract negotiations going on, last thing I would want is to see him leave. With him, Arteta and the Yak hopefully coming back soon (with Jags toward the end of the year), we’ll be looking much better. We need some creativity in the centre. Jo looks like he’s finding some form. Despite there being little on the transfer front — I think the loan deal for Jo might be a good piece of business (I hope so anyway).
Brendan Fox
53   Posted 02/08/2009 at 14:25:19

I cannot say I am overly enthused by what I have just seen. The boys need to get their act together sharpish far too many lacklustre performances with a sprinkling of good play in spells. Two poor goals conceded against a poor Coventry team. I am sure the Arse are quaking in their boots after that performance!
Gavin Ramejkis
54   Posted 02/08/2009 at 14:59:20

The defending sounded pants, anyone know what happened to Coleman as he sounded half decent in other games, how long is he out for and thoughts on whether or not he’ll get the nod over Hibbert?

Our team looks even more wafer thin than it did at the start of last season and that was bad enough.
Richard Murray
55   Posted 02/08/2009 at 15:36:57

Gavin, Coleman’s got a sore toe or something. Doesn’t sound too serious, but considering he’s missed the majority of preseason with it too, I wouldn’t expect him to feature in the opening games — besides, Hibbert really hasn’t been that bad the last couple of games.

I really believe if he had more support on the right wing, he’d be a very good RB.

You’re certainly not wrong about the side looking wafer thin. I really wish we would buy a couple of attacking wingers. If you look at our midfield, I would say all of them play better in the centre than out wide.

Just got back from the game (now live and work 45 mins away in Loughborough). Agree with most of the comments from people who have watched on TV. Very much a lacklustre affair and the defending not to hot at all. It's quite disturbing that Rodwell and Yobo could be our starting centre-back pairing if Lescott goes to city... Rodwell didn't look all that comfortable (though I'm sure he’d get better with game time there).

Jo looked sharp for the first 70 mins though.

First time at the RICOH. Not bad for a new stadium. Stewards were clever enough to open a 3rd pay-on-the-day turnstyle after a lot more than the 800 without tickets they predicted turn up. One of them said almost double that had rocked up on the day.

Quite enjoyed it. Even though it was all a little easy paced and quiet (being pre-season). Nice sunny day anyway.
Brendan Fox
57   Posted 02/08/2009 at 15:42:35

I can remember Sharpy or the the other fella commentating saying that Coleman had an infection in one of his toes and did not leave the hotel room for most of the trip in the States and Canada. So I would be surprised if we get to see anything of Coleman for the rest of this pre-season.

I could not agree more with you Gavin & Richard, we have not had any proper wingers since Kanchelskis! For the sake of proper balance you cannot just lump anybody on the wing, a winger needs raw pace to stand a chance and none of the current midfield players I would say are genuinely quick. Just take a look at last season and what Baines and Piennar managed to do for the team and Piennar is not even a proper winger.
