Money, money, money

Seems City are doing what they can to ensure players like Elms and that Leeds lad don't go anywhere to improve rivals like us. I expect us and Villa are their real rivals next season and they know it. They will not be up there with Utd yet..

But no point in moaning (though I like Moyes's tactics in making them seem the devil's children). They are just the latest club with dosh. What fascinates me is my Man City friend at work. She has no great sense of excitement and feels she is losing her club...

A lesson?

Ged, I had the same thought when I read the rumour suggesting that City were interested in Elms, and that may be right... but at the end of the day, you have to ask what type of player you want at Everton and personally if a footballer is going to choose money over playing regular first team footy then he’s not a player I think EFC can use.

I can only see City as a dead end for a youngster looking to make a name for himself to be fair, and if a footballer can’t see that, then maybe he doesn’t have what it takes to make it at Goodison — grit, ambition and character.

I thought the same of the Naugthon move to be honest — and although I would like to see good players at Everton, I think Moyes has done a great job finding players who want to play for Everton and are not just after the moolah.

At the end of the day, it's agents that advise these players to go where the money is, plus don't forget that most footballers are extremely self-confident, a lot of them arrogant young men, and will believe they will get in the side regardless who else plays for them!

I'm really hoping Man City trip up; everyone in the league will be desperate to beat them next season, and they will get kicked off most parks! That's why they were crap away last season!

City are playing a smart game. We won't sell Lescott so they will threaten to buy our targets until Lescott is allowed to leave.

Do they really need young potential when they can go out and buy a £22M player?

Elm and Delph will play reserve team footy if they go there, while at Everton they will get more first-team action.

It will be an interesting summer for sure.

I’ve no problem with Elm going anywhere else. We’ve had 2 weeks since he came over to Finch Farm and we have not bid for him so we can't expect others to hold fire until we get around to attempting to buy him. We need to move a lot quicker in transfers...

Slightly off point here, but a mate of mine at work is a City fan. His opinion of the current situation is that he feels like they are cheating. And to this extent the fantasy football they seem to be playing with themselves is making him lose interst in the actual game of football. Told him about the Toure transfer and he didn’t care a dot. Odds are they will lose as many real fans as they get new fake ones, so still won’t fill up their ground!

Watching Jo play today, he looked like what he is, a Brazilian who has football flowing through his veins. OK, only Coventry (who had much more to play for than us) pre-season. But by far and away the classiest player on the park. (Until the Big Fella got interested.)

Man City — all that money, and no sense.

Yes, I would rather be in our position and do things properly with not much money, than in CitY's position, cheating by bringing money in from outside of football.

Too many changes to a team would just make me feel it wasn't my team anymore — a team who I had seen develop and want to play for the club and fans rather than just money.

Perhaps I am just naive....

Iain, although based out in Sunny (and occasionally not rainy) Singapore, there are a few Man City lads here that I occasionally have a beer with, watch the games etc. None of the ones I’ve met are that enthused. They were mildly interested with Robhino, but as "old school" fans do not like this summer at all.

But for every one like that, I’ll bet there’s 15-20 who couldn’t give a flying one...

Suspect it would be the same with us if we ever got that kinda dosh. Thing is, I have always believed with Moyes as manager, he wouldn’t need that much as he would baulk at signing those kind of players. He’d rather go for the honest pro, develop youth etc. etc.

Am I the only one who finds it interesting that FSW over the road is now pushing on Liverpool developing their youth system? Think he’s realised it’s gonna be more like one-in one-out for the future. And long may that reign!

Rupert, totally agree with you.

It would be interesting to know what advice Sean Wright Phillips would give these kids after his Chelsea experience.

Matt, I think that the dark side must be pretty worried now. It seems that Alonso and Mascherano will be on their way, leaving a gaping hole in their midfield.

If City click this season, then they will be in the top 4. I can't see Chelsea coming 5th, so its between the Arse and the Shite. The Arse have a 60,000-seat stadium now so are making big money. They also have less superstars on stupid money, so could survive without CL for a few seasons at least. But what would happen to the Shite if they had their CL money cut off for a few seasons? It doesn't help our cause to break the top four, but it would be a little bit more bearable should the Shite fall to bits....

Agree totally. Doing things properly, the good old fashioned way I believe. With a manager that has morals and a true understanding of how to get to the "end game". Just wish it wasn’t so protracted and so damned annoying. You know this being patient lark!!! It’s just so frustrating.

I wish I was a fly on the wall at Finch Farm at the moment. The OS is saying this morning that Lescott will not be fit for the trip to Blackpool but will hopefully be ok for Friday.

Is this a thinly veiled message that Lescott is going nowhere despite the speculation in even the local press this morning or are Everton pissing against the wind? Or perhaps more likely, is it a case of carrying on normally until there is reason not to?

I’m getting to the point now where I’m thinking if he is going to go just let him go so that we all know where we are up to and presumably so will the club. On the other hand I would love Everton to resist this transfer even if only to show that there is more to football than just being able to reap the benefits of finding an Arab’s fat wallet!

Its funny you should mention the non-plussed City fan you are friends with, Ged, since I live in Manchester and know ten or fifteen diehard City fans... and every one of them seems to have the same attitude. Where there should be an incredible sense of excitement and optimism, there is instead a feeling of embarrassment and disinterest... perhaps with City it’s a case of too much too soon.

I actually do not envy the club at all. Them and their fans have incredibly overtaken Man U’s as the most despised in the country... when they inevitably slip up and lose 1-0 to Stoke or whoever, the entire nation will be throwing street parties and waxing lyrical about how "you can’t buy class" and other similar bollocks.

They’re probably waiting for him to hand the good old transfer request in, then the club ’has no choice’ and takes the money. Everyone’s a happy winner, sort of.

Or lads, the reason they are after Elm and Delph is because C.

Even if he goes, I genuinely cannot see us bringing in replacements! It’s the same old shite - loads of speculation and absolutely 0 action. This transfer window is driving me (and clearly some others on here) completely insane.

What I meant to say, was that City may see these 2 lads as future prospects.

There is a real issue for the FA to sort out here. City have so much money they could buy all of the young talent in the lower leagues, and loan them back to the selling clubs just to stop us Villa etc from signing them. Is their anything limiting the number of players a side is able to loan out at any one time.

Just read on Sky sports that we have had a bid accepted for Senderos, looks like Joleon is on his way after all!

Jimmy....perhaps your Man City associates are embarrassed by their arrogant prick of a manager and the shite he’s been coming out with over the last couple of days...What a knob.

I really hope they do struggle in the first ten games ( all season actually) and the smug bastard gets the sack I really do !!
