Constructive comments only please!

Comments (20)

I can understand every fan's growing frustation this summer. The looming decision of DK; the lack of activity in the transfer market of players coming in; the impending activity in the transfer market of players leaving; the assumption of the Club being penniless; etc, etc, etc.

However, some of the recent articles on this site are unbelievably negative and downright suicidal! It's easy to criticise, such as Kenwright doesn't spend any money, we should expand Goodison, we should sign Dani Alves and Messi for our right flank! If everyday life was this simple, there would never be any problems, let alone trying to run a Premier League football club.

For all those negative comments from now on, how about a practical and realistic solution to go with them. There are certain situations at the Club at the moment that you know aren't going to change, such as Kenwright is going to stay as Chairman, Moyes won't resign & we only have about £10m available to spend on players this season. Therefore we know what the problems are, so rather than complaining and moaning about what a bad situation we are in, let's try and be positive and work out how to get out of this situation.

For example, if we do want money to buy a 'star' player such as Defour, the only solution might be to sell a player like Lescott. Then we could buy Defour and another defender.

If we want to move stadium but stay in Liverpool, write where and how much and where we get the money from.

Hopefully, you get the idea. Let's try and be positive and not so negative please and find some answers.

Are you an official spokesperson for Everton? I know exacly what you’re saying though, but people generlly like to come on toffeeweb to moan and let off steam! It wouldn’t matter who owned the club - some people can only see the board members as selfish gobshites with no interest in EFC... you can guarrantee they are the fellas moaning day in day out about the slave-drivers who boss them about at work every day (and then have the nerve to pay their wages)!!!

So if we’re not making positive comments we’re not being constructive?

Just because people on this site aren’t happy with the way business is being conducted at EFC, doesn’t mean that they don’t somehow have the best interests of Everton at heart. You could not be more wrong. It is precisely because they have the best interests of the club at heart that they show their displeasure with how the board are not capitalising on the results of the last few seasons. I for one feel BK is allowing opportunity to slip away while the Sky 4 get further away and teams around and below us are always seeming to make positive moves in the right direction.

If that makes me not "constructive" - tough! I’ll wear that badge with pride every day until we see a change at the helm of the club.

Matthew being ultra positive all the time and never complaining is actually counter productive. If we constantly accept crap then crap is all we will be fed. Some times fans have to stand up for what they believe in.

I would like to see some new players come in pretty soon and I am realistic enough to know they wont be world beaters.I would like to see replacements for Hibbert and Osman as they have stunk the place out for years now.Surely we all want this dont we?

I get the negative slant that you have, Tony Marsh, but why the personal attacks on players? Hibbert and Osman might not be CL quality, but there’s no need to write that "they have stunk the place out for years". It’s just disrespectful to men that work hard for the club. Why not just say "we need to improve on them"? You’re quickly turning into big gob, that can be relied on to turn up the rhetoric at every moment. In saying that, I do love you though, mate.

First paragraph - we don’t have to be ultra positive all the time - just realistic. I’m not saying accept crap all the time, just if we receive or hear crap, how would we (as if we ran the football club), deal with it, turn it around and make the best of the situation?

Second paragraph - much better! All I’m trying to say is let’s deal with the situation instead of bitching, moaning and slagging everything and everyone off all the time. Those comments have never got anyone anywhere. It’s constructive (not necessarily positive) comments that drive a business forward.

"For all those negative comments from now on, how about a practical and realistic solution to go with them."

I would imagine that the board at the club would suffer multiple heart attacks if ever they managed anything positive. So how would us mere fans cope with everything being just perfect?.......
Not well I would imagine. Surely it’s all the crap that keeps us going. You know the drive and determination to put it all right is the reason that we are so passionate about all things EFC. Or am I the omly one who feels that way? Someone help me, I’m just a blue in need of a fix!!

Where you around when the Tories were in charge? F’ all we could do practically and constructively then, was there? We don’t go in for riots much, both as Britons and Evertonians (pity)
All we could do was moan, whinge, work to get the bastards out and take the opportunity to vote when the time came
How’s about you lead us off and contact Bill, offering him a grand on the conditions that he uses it for team-building and puts out an offer to all Blues to do similar
It’s not so much much moaning. you see, it’s feeling you can’t do anything legal to change things
Ah, the heady days of cushions on the pitch!
The problem is some of us refuse to accept ’nothing but reality is good enough’ as the club motto
We’ve had the footballing equivalent of shagging Kate Bush, in my case 62-71 and 84-87, so making do with the odd grope with Liz Smith is not appealing

Matthew, our job is to support the club as fans. The finding of monies, new investors, stadium issues is down to the board, and at the end of the day, they aren’t making a good job of it.

Surely it is more constructive to ’moan’ in such forums rather than go the match and boo every bad touch Hibbert has, or each time Osman gets brushed off the ball? ( those two again! )

I go the match and SUPPORT the team, regardless of the rubbish they often dish out. I’ve never booed any Everton player or not defended the club when we are being laughed at by knobhead redshite fans. I do my duty as an Evertonian when it matters.

However, i will continue to speak my mind in a forum like this as it gives myself and others a chance to vent off. All is not rosy in the Everton garden and I’d much rather fans rant and rave here than during a match, wouldn’t you?

Well, for me, moaning is part and parcel of things, though if the argument completely nonsense, then its as counterproductive as a positive-only comment.

As for Lescott (moan and cheer a bit), I like the fact that he only asked for it now rather than the first bid. It sounds fair to both sides (Everton and Lescott) although I agree its a big hole to fill.

I hope this will get us Elm and a few other players. Everton has been working on tight budgets for years and I really hate to see it differently this year.

Moyes did a decent job getting some fresh blood at least, even if they are speculative.

Matthew, although I understand your point, I and do think that a positive attitude can help, surely you can consider that only members of the football club who have an active responsibility in changing things can do so at the present.

Therefore, in my mind, the best help I can provide is to voice my dissent in the hope that some of it is taken on board.

I’m afraid that writing into ToffeeWeb with a few positive comments is not going to secure EFC that new stadium or that new player that the fans and possibly the board crave.

Matthew, I can sort the lot in one clean swoop,

The current owner who has not got the money for his beloved club to compete where he would like them to does exactly what the owner of Wolves, who didn't have the money for his beloved club, has done? Do you think he will?

I am going to be constructive though. I think next year, when we tour USA, we bung Paris Hilton and a few other famous types a few hundred grand to wear our kit for a day and go and be photographed in it.

Hey presto, everyone hears our name and our brand awareness goes through the roof. Also, a load of septic tanks who copy a celebs every move buy the kit.

Matthew if everyone agreed or were constantly happy on here it would be a shite site. There would be no debate (by debate I mean abusive and name-calling arguments) and it would be a quiet site.

Marshy is right in some respects in that people pointing out faults can help a situation get better; where he falls down is that he completely disappears when we are going through a purple patch, as he cannot do compliments.

Complaints and compliments are as good as each other but Marshy just cannot bring himself to say anything good about Moyes or our "lesser" players. He says that Hibbert and Ossie have stunk the place out for years yet we are now becoming an established 5/6 place team so they must do something right.

Another poster on a different site said the same as me, us fickle football fans have short memories when it comes to Hibbert — we forget the great patch he had before his injury but will never forget the mare he had against Malouda and Young.

When I see posts like this, it sinks in that Bill Kenwright will be allowed to continue to make a mess of this club. Some people are blinded by his bullshit and his lies and deceit. When will you wake up?

I just watched the Blackpool game on Everton TV...

If you’re not worried already then now would be a good time to start... they were awful...

Hibbert at fault for yet another goal and Osman being brushed aside/off the ball with ease by League 1 players is an embarrassment.

Rodwell looks lost playing alongside Yobo and our goal was a mistake by their keeper... Jo looks like he’s picked up an ankle injury.

All we need now is to complete the signing of Senderdross to make it a very bad day...!!

If Jason Euell can cause us problems then god help us.... I'm fed up of Billy Bullshit and his lies. We were supposed to strengthen... haven’t seen one performance this pre-season to say we have anything to look forward to on Aug 15th...

Tony Marsh, I’m full agreement with your current article on the site but have to take issue with your comments on this thread. I think your comments re. Osman and Hibbert are unfair to say the least.

Leon Osman is a decent enough central midfielder who has been played out of position and has uncomplainingly given 100%. Look how Lescott’s game was affected when Moyes preferred to play him out of position at the expense of Leighton Baines.

Tony Hibbert is a committed Evertonian who had some fine games last season when he was actually fit. Playing Osman and Hibbert on the right doesn’t usually work. David Moyes chose to play Osman out of position and an unfit Hibbert rather than Gosling and Jacobsen yet he is, to some Evertonians, beyond criticism. To say Osman and Hibbert have stunk the place out is unfair.

Not quite sure you got the point of the original post, Tony.

We’d be a stronger team if… (name a realistic transfer target) …took Osman’s place on the right = good.

Osman is shite = bad

Naw Osman is pretty poor for a top Premier League team, its not his fault he has performed above his level on occassions but clearly we need to improve on him, I think Hibbert is a good defender very cabable of defending but thats all he hasnt got anything else about his game! Jermaine Pennant would be a better addition than having Osman in the team and that really is saying something lol the only thing positve I can say here is that our team spirit is second to none and once that is kept and improved on then we will be.........ok!

Aiden Doyle,

Thank you, somebody actually seems to realise the point I am trying to make. This post has generally resulted in people criticising Osman and slagging him off. The intended part of the post was to find a suitable replacement for Osman if this is the fan’s main problem at the club.

Therefore: problem = Osman. Solution = Kightly, Quaresma, Nani or someone else

Problem = Hibbert. Solution = Richards, Onouha or someone else.
