Lescott - let him go ??

I see that 'Roger' has informed us that he wants to leave to go to City. You can't really blame the lad, a rumour I have heard tells he will receive the same salary as Gareth Barry — £84k per week, as opposed to the probable £30 plus grand he gets from us. I am pretty sure there is not one of us who wouldn't jump to another job paying almost 3 times the money for doing exactly the same job, and eventually with better people working around us.
Providing that David Moyes gets his hands on all the money, less the add on to Wolves, I think I would rather see, say, Micah Richards coming here as a make-weight, and Defour from Belgium, with Senderos if needs be (not too convinced by him admittedly).
Personally I believe this would leave us as a better all-round squad, as I am firmly convinced that Joleon is a bit over-rated, as Phil Jagielka is the man who makes him look good in much the same way that Lee Carsley did with Tommy Gravesen.
I am sure that Phil would not have gone to sleep like Joleon in the Cup Final and let Drogba score a header unopposed, and he marshalls the line superbly, keeping Joleon or Joe in line, as both tend to go to sleep at times during the game.
Jonny Evans of Man Utd would also do a good job for us if Richards's wages meant he wouldn't come to us, but I don't believe it will be the end of the world if Lescott goes to Man City... I would let him go.

It's rumoured the wage offered is £100,000 a week — bloody ridiculous. What exactly do you mean by "better people working around us". Our team spirit is second to none and Joly won’t find that at Man City, but good luck to him if he feels it's a chance to make cash. After all satisfaction and happiness in a job doesn’t seem to count for much any more does it?
Personally I hope that David Moyes treats Lescott the same way that Sir Alex treated Ronaldo and refuses to let him go for another season. It will then be a case of he plays well for us or he won’t get picked for the England team. Let’s hope that, in our case, cash doesn’t mean more to EFC than David Moyes being awkward and refusing to let him go.

I actually did reject a chance of a hefty pay rise to move to London last year. This is because I’m settled in the North West and I’m near my family, I’m quite happy in the job I’m already in and I can still get to watch Everton most weeks. There’s a lot to be said for being settled in your job rather than it being all about money. I think a lot of our players feel the same because a lot of them are good enough to play for other clubs who can offer more wedge. Lescott though is being blinded by it all, his agent must be trying to push this thing through otherwise the transfer saga would have died a death a long time ago. If he’s greedy enough, he’ll go but it would be refreshing for a change to see someone rot in the reserves as punishment instead. I only we had the resources to do that.

’Roger’ I dont get the ’Roger’ bit???? Is it time to start to slagging off our (ex)players just because they are they are making a career choice? Only thing that really bugs me about the Lescott saga is that it wasnt done and dusted asap at the start of the transfer window so that we can go hunting for other players and get them in for pre season! Snails are running our club

I couldnt agree more with Keith, I do think thats Jags makes the others look good, I also think people have forgotten Lescotts form early last season, when he was far from a £20m player! Dont get me wrong, I am a fan of Lescott, and I dont think there is a better header of the ball in the team, but for the greater good, I think we should bite citys hand off. Adding 2/3 good players to our first team / squad, can only be a good thing, and in fairness, if its not Lescott going to city, they’ll get another £20m defender, so its not as if we’re doing our bit to fuck them over.

Why give 5 years security to a player if he can move on when ever it suits him? I agree that most of us would do the same, but he is not on poor money now. So I think Mr Moyes wants to keep him he stays simple if you want freedom to move DO NOT sign a five-year contract.
