Football Manager

Comments (14)

I think I did a thread like this before, but has anyone noticed how much this Football Manager deal is affecting our transfers? We've already signed Mustafi and Peterlin, we've offered a contract to a Cody Arnoux, who is again playing in fourth tier in America, and we are trialing a Slovenian by the name of Peter Stojanovic. These guys are really obscure players.

I think it's a terrific deal, because we're not risking much. Though they could turn out to be pointless squad players like Eddy Bosnar was, it's not if we're losing much if that happens. They could even turn out to be good players. Only time will tell I guess, but one of the few positives for Everton this summer so far.

I play Football Manager quite regularly and I've searched for the players that we have bought this summer and I can't find them anywhere on the game. I don't think these signings have anything to do with the Football Manager deal.

We talking the Football Manager 09 or FML?

Which unfortunately I’m totally addicted to :(

I disagree there Jamie, because don’t they have lots of employed scouts scouting players each day? I think these players have been scouted and maybe have been alerted to Moyes. It’s the only thing I can think off, unless our scouting system is actually that good

I think that if Everton have paid money for a deal where they get FM’s database, then they would get the brand new database ready for the next release, so these players would most likely be in FM10, otherwise any club could just buy a copy of the game and take their chances (there are ways to view the data, you dont have to play the game for hours on end to see if someone is good)! Doubt any managers would do that though!

Oh come on.. I love FM as much as the next guy, but it’s a bit fanciful to sugges that access to the database is behind all these signings.

For instance - from what I have found from digging around US football forums is the reason Moyes heard about Arnoux and Peterlin is because they share an American agent, Graham Smith, who is close to Moyes. Smith recommended them, Moyes agreed to give them a trial, and liked what he saw.

I would be surprised if the same thing isn’t happening with these other players. I think FM still probably underplays the role of agents in the football world - most clubs have very limited and ineffective scouting networks.
All that said, I do quite enjoy the idea of Moyes staying up late at night poring over the FM database looking for guys with high potential ratings... :o)

Do you all play football manager in a darkened room, sitting at the computer with just a vest and soiled undies on?

Saying that I was thought Walter Smith signed Bakayoko after seeing how good he was on Championship Managers.

For some reason my FM 08 game doesn’t seem to like Steven Pienaar. I play him wide right and he gets 6 but only sometimes 7.

Shaun - I usually play FM listening to Bruce Springsteen, The Killers, U2 or Queen but if it’s an important game/point in the season then something lighter e.g. Faiport Convention, Clannad, Sigur Rhos. My next door neighbour copied an Everton themed CD for me and I have been tempted to play Z Cars before home matches... but that would be taking it too far!!! I am currently 6th and some of the supporters are still not totally satisfied so my game is quite authentic!!!

I've always liked him; it would seem to me that he'd fit in well with the squad and provide the quality we need on the wing. Might he be worth £6-8 million? Do we have £6-8 million?
