I've tried not to read too much into all the bullshit that's being written in the papers and on the internet this pre-season. I've even contemplated trying out for Big Brother 11 next year so I can escape all the talk of who we are going to sign, or not as the case may be.
Anyway, if what's been reported in The Sun this morning about Lescott is true, something needs to be done. The buck stops at Bill plain and simple. There's no way on earth Moyes wants Lescott to leave and has told him so. Especially after watching the shower of shit pre-season against mighty Blackpool, Bury and Rochdale. Kenwright has said time and time again that he will only sell for £30 million. Moyes says he would only sell if Lescott hands in a transfer request.
So, come Thursday afternoon, what have we got. Lescott going to Man City for £22 million without putting in a transfer request. It's all fucking lies at this club and the sooner WE make it known that Kenwright needs to fuck off the better, cos he won't go on his own and come next year when someone bids for Jags or Arteta and Bill says "no-one is going anywhere", we know what will happen. Nil satis nisi optimum my arse.

All the other median reports of this story are based on this one story, which seems bollocks to being with.
I’m not saying he won’t go, but I’ll believe it when I see him posing in a light blue jersey not when it’s hinted at in The Sun.
5 Posted 06/08/2009 at 15:10:52
When did he say that?
"Moyes says he would only sell if Lescott hands in a transfer request."
When did he say that?
These may sound like sarky questions but they’re not, I just can’t remember hearing either say what you are claiming them to have said. At least not ’on record’. If they have then my apologies.

Football is a business and these things will happen again and again
When we get the big investor we will do the same
Its all PR crap that we are fed

On another note when was the last time we sold out for a pre-season match at goodison? The Malaga game is a sell-out according to the OS. Bizzare!

It doesn't say we would accept £30m. It says we wouldn't even for £30m.
The only ’Bollocks’ here is that we will sell for a lot less. Game over.
11 Posted 06/08/2009 at 15:55:00
I mean come on - £30m?! For a centre-back?! One on the fringest of the England squad?! Are you serious? If we even get £22m for Lescott we should be sent to jail. That’s twice what we paid for Yakubu. It’s almost twice what City paid for Gareth Barry and more than they paid for Santa Cruz, almost twice what Villa paid for Downing. It’s £6m more than Man U paid for their replacement for Ronaldo.
I mean - yes, this has been a ridiculous summer of insane transfer prices, but we need to keep our perspective. £22m is a fanastic deal, and City just don’t care about money right now. Good premiership centre-backs aren’t ridiculously hard to find or develop, not like say top quality wingers or goal-scoring strikers - some years ago we had a 38 and 39 year old doing a fine job! If the money is able to fund good replacements, and quick, we’re away laughing as far as I’m concerned!
12 Posted 06/08/2009 at 16:06:54
I fail to see how this is BK’s fault, I'm not his biggest fan to be honest but it's got fuck all to do with him if Joleon wants out is it?
The whole affair leaves a sour taste though really doesn't it, it's quite hard to accept that fucking Man City can come and take the pick of our players. I sincerely hope they fall flat on their fucking faces.

When Arteta was linked to Arsenal he went public. Lescott hasn’t done shit which leaves us open for speculation.
Whether it be his agent, friends or family somebody is talking and Joleon has done nothing to shut them up. Playing for Everton is a privilege, if you don’t want it... BYE!
On another note, I never thought I’d see the day when bollocks tough Mauri Warriors looked as camp as fuck. ’If they know their history’ indeed!

Once you then factor in that Jô will be part of the deal and God only knows what they/us value him at the whole thing starts to unravel in true Everton style. Fairy tales are not true but Jô being a part of this Lescott deal surely is... What do you think?????
17 Posted 06/08/2009 at 16:43:06
£22m will be a very, very good deal, as long as it is up front, with few conditions, and it is able to be used by Moyes to improve the squad. Given how flush City are right now I think there’s a decent chance that could happen, but I do agree there’s a real risk the squad gets shafted by some installment plan etc. Let’s hope not.
18 Posted 06/08/2009 at 16:47:24
Sounded like a January bid could be successful as Jags would be fit and others could have bedded in, or is that just another rumour?

Personally I can see the pros and cons of selling Lescott. What shouldn’t be doubted though, is anything like the £22M that is being hinted at would represent GREAT money for a solid, reliable defender. He is very good but NOT world class.
Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate his versatility and agree he would be a hard act to follow without spending silly money on already ESTABLISHED, quality centre backs, but I’m sure Moyes could find someone with potential who along with Senderos, could see us through until Jags is back. Maybe not an ideal situation and obviously we’ll lose Joey for a good few weeks too, but we would manage.
Yobo + Senderos and/or Jags + Senderos is not as horrific as some would have you believe. Eventually it would be Yobo + Jags plus Senderos and the new CB all vying for two positions. (And just for the record, I’ve had a look on a fair few Arsenal message boards and the rep THEY have for Senderos is not at all too bad. Many feel he has potential under the right type of manager i.e., Moyes.)
Again, this is not necessarily what I want to see happen, but if we are going to sell then what choice have we got? I know some people will suggest we won’t see all of the Lescott money but I don’t think Moyes would sanction the sale unless that was guaranteed.
The flip side of the sale would be the chance to bring in some quality elsewhere in the team. A pacy winger, maybe a right back, and hopefully someone in midfield who can play a bit. We are crying out for any or all of those types of signings.
I just pray that if any deal happens we take City to the cleaners. £22M and the loan of Richards or Dunne would be a good start. Also, if we are going to sell, for fuck's sake make Lescott put in the transfer request. Nothing against him, but let’s not be paying HIM for wanting to leave us.
On a final note, I’m still 50/50 as to whether any deal will happen. If it does, then the points I made are worth considering. (like it or not, he WILL have gone) But if he does stay, good on the club for sticking to their guns. Either way, please get a fucking move on and make a final decision.

Earlier this week there was a report that Man City were interested in signing our target Elm.
Now its just a theory but what i am getting at is that has Hughes tried to blackmail Everton by leaking it to the press that they are intrested in Elm
and if he does not sell JL he would hijack our transfer target.
24 Posted 06/08/2009 at 18:21:03
I hate to say this.. BUT if we do sell do you reckon we’ll have the turn around of the RS? They sell a player for 30 mill and have a replacement signed for 20 mill within hours.. no major delays or screw ups..
Na i dont reckon we will either..
But i am a glass half empty type of guy..
25 Posted 06/08/2009 at 18:55:14
Tony, you’ve outlined best why it’s actually not a good deal. Our net income from it would be around £14m, and we can’t even get Defour for that. I say fuck em off - I hate those cunts anyway after I got hit by a coin at Eastlands 5 mins after Timmy scored the winner, and I hate them even more now cos of their smarmy ways.
26 Posted 06/08/2009 at 19:42:59
The latest story line is that he may well be fit enough to will play in the friendly against Malaga and when he does he’s likely to be subjected to a barrage of abuse by disgruntled fans. Having previously encouraged us to believe he wasn’t injured but was withdrawn pending his imminent departure to Eastlands.
Personally, I see this as a cynical attempt to influence fans into turning against the player and so hasten his departure. As I understand it the only public comments made by Lescott were along the lines of "I’m an Everton player until the club tell me different" and that was a while ago. To his credit the player has held his silence and refrained from engaging in this circus. Should he play in this game I really do hope the fans show him the same support as in the earlier friendly.
However, should he move on for a ridiculous offer I for one would wish him well, though I’d much prefer him to stay. However, as with the Rooney saga we were able to push on. One can only hope BK is prepared to release the proceeds for the purpose of signing a few more quality players.
27 Posted 06/08/2009 at 21:17:10
If Tony Marsh is right about a 10% payout, that means he’s about £2 million down.

If the City crap means they get Lescott and we get Jo -
they get a player we made into a good one, and if he goes for the money, bye bye
and we get a class player who has been looking for a home - and will flourish with us.
It comes down to attitude.
31 Posted 06/08/2009 at 21:44:32
In which case why get so worked up about him going for £22 million? That is still an incredible price for someone we’d have agreed was only worth £10 million at the sart of last season.
I think Lescott has made it pretty clear he wants out. The Goodison crowd are an unforgiving bunch (myself included) and I don’t think he’ll be too welcome there now. The acid test for me now is whether he playes against Malaga tomorrow. The club have said all week he’ll be fit for Friday’s game so if he doesn’t play expect him to only turn out in sky blue with a bad oil stain on it.

You are totally wrong with regards to the availability of top class centre backs compared to strikers or wingers. Top class, left footed centre backs are almost none existent. Notice that nobody comes up with obvious replacements for Lescott. Senderos has played for AC Milan, but is seen by all of us as a squad player. We have had the one of the best defences in the league since Lescott arrived. The best combinations have been Lescott and Jags, or Lescott and Yobo. Lescott is the common denominator here.
I could ask you all for suggestions for repacements that do not weaken our team and none of you could do it, especially with our wage structure, We may have all £22 million to spend on a replacement but we can’t pay the wages, so Lescott has to stay until Moyes can find another lower league gem prepared to accept £40,000 per week or less.
34 Posted 06/08/2009 at 21:58:08
We had just spent two hours in the Tate enjoying ourselves in the various exhibitions. The style guru to my right - possibly "my bird" in scouse - pronounced the Everton shop well designed and tasteful. With no prompting from me she pronounced the red fiasco "tacky".
She’s not always right, but I had to agree.
35 Posted 06/08/2009 at 22:08:12
You say Lescott has made it clear, to be honest I think he will go but only because it is considered mutually beneficial to both the player and the club. However, apart from the garbage that appears in the tabloids can you provide a link to any official statement by the player or the club as to date I’ve seen nothing other than rumor and supposition in the absence of this how has he made it clear?
36 Posted 06/08/2009 at 22:21:47
Anything around the £20M mark for a CB, hesitantly signed 3 years ago after umpteen medicals due to his well known "dodgy knees", is good business.
Replacements ? Again, I’m sure Moyes has identified suitable replacements - that’s his job. Actually, if Moyes can directly pass on knowledge about one position on the pitch, it’s CB - witness the development of both Lescott and Jags from Championship players to England internationals.
So yes, Lescott will be hard to replace, but let’s not over-estimate his worth. Granted, he might be worth oodles of fantasy football points due to his goal-scoring exploits, but let’s not forget his real-life lapses of concentration and schoolboy errors on the pitch ! My hunch is that most neutrals wouldn’t put him in the top ten Premiership centre backs.
I trust Moyes to replace Lescott, and hopefully be given sufficient funds to improve the team as a whole.

I agree with so many of the points on here, but as stated, if he is to leave then just get it done so that we have the opportunity to replace him without it being a last ditch over priced purchase

No other players are being linked with moves away from the club so it would seem Lescott’s agent is causing the problems. If Lescott wants to stay then it’s easy, just say so otherwise "Hell hath no fury like an Evertonian scorned".
45 Posted 07/08/2009 at 08:55:43
The media make up stories – look at how John Terry was “demanding showdown” talks with Chelsea after being refused a chance to talk to Man City – the papers were all full of stories about him wanting to leave and the Terry himself had not issued any statements to the contrary, so it MUST be true. What happened? He stayed at Chelsea.
I have not seen any indication of where Roger has “made it pretty clear he wants out” – absolutely none. Yes, he could have come out and said “No I’m not interested”, but he’s issued no recent statements either way and the stories in the media that he has asked for a move verbally can be taken with the usual ton of salt. Unless he puts in a written transfer request that means, as far as I’m concerned, he is happy enough to stay on 30-40k a week!
If the fans give him a hard time tonight, what do you reckon he will be thinking? “I think I’ll stay and win these loyal fans back” or “Sod this for a game of soldiers, I haven’t even said I wanted to leave. If that’s the way they think, I may as well go and treble my wages at City”. While he is an Everton player he must not be booed! If he moves to City, then feel free to let rip on his return, but it’s no good giving him grief because of some stories in “the Sun” (of all places!!!!) If he plays tonight, then we have a chance to say to him “Don’t go to City – they’re shit! Stay with us and win things here!”
We should not sell for anything less than £30m – I think you’ll find that Roger scored more goals than the £30m “goal machine” that is Carlos Tevez last year as well as being one of the best Centre-backs in the Prem and also a very reliable left Back if needs be. The cost to Everton to replace him in fees and wages would be considerable.
How BK is getting all the blame for this is beyond me. The club have made all the right noises so far – rejecting bids out of hand. Those who drag out the old “wouldn’t sell him for £50m” stories also fail to mention that BK said that before Rooney handed in an official transfer request. As soon as a player hands in a request then you’re fighting a losing battle. Back then Man Utd offered Rooney CL footy and trophies every year, while we could only offer him mid table mediocrity (at that time) – who’d realistically expected the season we eventually had that year? Blame BK for Kirkby and the lack of funds for new players, but don’t blame him for this attempt by the richest club in the world to lure away Roger, using the media rather than good old fashioned club to club negotiation.
For those who want BK out, cast you mind back 10 years or so, to a cold Monday night when the news broke that Peter Johnson had sold Big Dunc to the barcodes behind Mr Dignity’s back. I presume that’s the sort of Chairman you’ll be wanting then?
On another note, Mark Hughes and City should be punished severely for tapping up Roger. He’s admitted that he didn’t ring up DM to discuss the transfer because DM would say no and so he’s tried the alternative tactic of using the media etc…..
46 Posted 07/08/2009 at 09:24:54
Can I ask you why you think City have pursued Lescott? He signed a new 4 year contract 12 months ago. If he wanted to stay he would have instructed his agent to not do any work on his part and leave him where he is. If he was happy at Everton Man City would not have pursued him for this long. Why isn’t Cahill subject to any bids or Pienaar? Pienaar has even rejected a contract offer but is still not subject to any bids. He has come out and said he’s sure a new deal can be sorted and that he wants to stay.
Do you really think there’s not smoke without fire with this one? It’s burying your head in the sand to think this is all just media speculation. If the club are adamant they’re not selling then Lescott should do what Terry did and say he’s not going anywhere. To attach all the blame to Man City is a fairly clueless way of thinking.
47 Posted 07/08/2009 at 09:59:30
One stupid thing you did say, which I have to correct you on, is your reference to John Terry. Terry took over six weeks to say what he did. For an England captain to take that long is hardly worthy of a comment ‘Lescott should do what Terry did’. England captains are usually in the media (at minimum) every fortnight so don’t kid yourself that Terry knew exactly what he was doing by prolonging his silence; building it up so the naïve among us think ‘wow what a great club and country captain he is’ – sadly it worked with you.
It sounds like you are coming round to what I have been telling you on numerous occasions – that Lescott will definitely be leaving. It is still a way from being done in this window though ;-) (although deep down I expect it will).
Lets get it done and move on. We all know Lescott will play is best football under Moyes, in an English back four, at EFC so don’t be too concerned. It is his goals, more than his defensive performances, which we will miss most. Just like big ears Jeffers I have a feeling J-Lo’s career may take a steady nose dive after leaving our club but don’t worry – he can afford it.
Suzy
48 Posted 07/08/2009 at 10:39:07
City have pursued Lescott because they are desperate for decent defenders and they know that Everton are a club that might be tempted to cash in if the price were right.
Lescott hasn’t said anything because — if he said he wanted to leave and then City didn’t offer enough money then that would leave him in limbo. If he said he didn’t want to go to city, but City offered too much money for the club to turn down, then that probably wouldn’t endear him to the City fans. By keeping quiet he keeps his options open — like John Terry did for 6 weeks.
What have Cahill and Pienaar to do with this?
49 Posted 07/08/2009 at 11:40:48
Alan, an agent is there to get the best deal for the player (with their cut of course)... if a recruitment agent/"head hunter" phoned you and offered you the opportunity to have an interview with an employer who’d double your wages, would you not at least here them out - regardless of how much you enjoy your current job?
Hughes has simply made himself look worse by saying that he didn’t contact Moyes. What did he expect, DM to say "Sure, Sparky as it’s you call it £5m and a couple of pints". Classless prick.
50 Posted 07/08/2009 at 13:49:38
I agree now with those who have said Lescott’s silence is deafening. If Everton have said repeatedly that Lescott is not for sale then why doesn’t he just say he wants to stay? The same statement by Terry ended City’s pursuit of him so it would end their pursuit of Lescott too. Simple really, "Roger" can put this thing to bed today with one simple sentence, "I want to stay at Everton".
Gary, you have to admit to be a little gullible if you think Lescott and his agent aren’t courting City. Like I said why isn’t Cahill or Pienaar’s agent inviting bids for them? Because they don’t want to move.
51 Posted 07/08/2009 at 14:25:18
Lescott hasn’t done this..therefore the only obvious conclusion - is that he’s clearly not interested in stopping the continuing circus.
Not that he should be in any way castigated for this.
But i’m afraid that’s the only conclusion that can be drawn....No doubt people will suggest that he shouldn’t have to make a statement if he didn’t want to go...and they’re right....Just because he ’shouldn’t have to’ doesn’t mean that it would be the sensible, logical and pragmatic thing to do in such a circumstance..
Therefore the only conclusion that makes any sense whatsoever...is that he is interested.
52 Posted 07/08/2009 at 14:27:53
LESCOTT WILL DEFINITELY BE LEAVING 100%. I have always said this and always will. I have also stated that it may even be as late as next summer but he is definitely leaving.
Bids for players which EFC do not want to sell (assuming the price is right) are never made public. When the club comes out and says ’offer rejected’ they are in principle advertising the fact they have a buy-able commodity. You really need to listen to me because you could learn alot. Everything i have told you to date will 100% guaranteed happen. You keep asking me how i can be so certain Alan; the answer to that is simple - im right.
Trust me Alan - just apply a little bit of patience ;-).
53 Posted 07/08/2009 at 15:27:33
Other insightful facts...
- There will be sun, rain and wind (in any kind of combination) over the following months
- Bill Kenwright will not be the Chairman forever
- David Moyes will not be the manager indefinitely
- Our first team will not remain exactly the same, some will leave, some more will come in... just look at the bigger picture
- Politicians will flounder
- Prices will rise
- But trust you on the Lescott issue (sun cream?)
Right?
54 Posted 07/08/2009 at 16:04:09
Joleon, Joleon, Joleon Joleon,
I’m beggin of you — stay at Everton.
Joleon, Joleon, Joleon Joleon,
Your home is here at Goodison.
Fuck me, I’m bored
55 Posted 07/08/2009 at 16:10:19
One correction - Not all prices rise (No Club sold Francis Jeffers for more than we did)
Another fact - i will be able to say the same about Lescott too.
56 Posted 07/08/2009 at 16:30:51
Prices in terms of the Retail Prices Index, rather than individual commodities/players. Players have a huge number of variables which dictate their price. Lescott’s value may still go up if he performs well on a world stage next summer (here or City). He may get injured tonight, and take a massive dip in price - which is why it’s unlikely he’ll play.
It all depends on how big a window you want to cast your predictions - but certainly Lescott will not always be an Everton player.
57 Posted 07/08/2009 at 17:21:38

As late as next summer? Very insightful Suzy.
Sounds like a finger well on the pulse to me.
58 Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:08:47
Your logic is of course entirely correct. Lescott is as wise as anyone else. He knows that if a huge bid is received the club will jump at it. And if all parties are happy with the arrangement I’m sure he’d happily go and good luck to him if we get a huge sum that allows us to bring in a few quality signings, he will have done us a huge favour. This nonsense that he’s hammering on Moyes door every day demanding a transfer well its just that. The tabloids latest tactic of in sighting the crowd to turn against him would appear to have found at least one recruit but I suspect others will be a good deal more objective.
59 Posted 07/08/2009 at 21:33:02
The facts, as publicly known, are these.
1. Man City have made it clear for many months that they covet him. This has been publicly trailed to such a degree, even down to the precise amount & date of impending bids that any human life above amoeba can deduce where the press are getting fed from.
2. City are publicly (and no doubt privately via his agent) dangling huge financial gains in front of Lescott, the like of which would make the average person jump ship in a flash.
It is unfair and ridiculously unrealistic to exoect Lescott to just carry on as usual and ignore the constant attempts to unsettle him and with 2 bids that (contrary to the stupid anti-EFC posters on here) were not only revealed by Man City, but were actualyt fed to Sky and other media before the bids arrived.
Everton have simply acknowledged the bids and declined them. Everton’s only public utterances on te subject, but manager and chairman, were to reiterate that he is not for sale at any price
3. Lescott has requested a transfer privately, or at ;east requested the chance to speak with Man City. Hardly surprising. This has been denied him. Thus far there has been no written request, no toys thrown out of pram, no bust up.
4. This situation is not of Lescott’s making and certainly not anything to do with Everton. This is 100% rich arrogance from Man City. If it gets to the stage where Lescott demands to go and becomes so sidetracked as to be useless to us, what should EFC do then?
The sensible answer, despite what it may do to our defence, is to sell him for as much as possible. if that is £22m then is anyone seriously putting the boot into Everton for this? Are some fans really this cretinous?
Lescott has been a model professional for us. I’ve admired him from the first time I saw him. He’s a thoroughbred and an all round great guy. He’s loved by his team mates and I believe in any other circumstances he wouldn’t dream of moving.
But this is what happens when billionaires start playing with football clubs. Other clubs get fucked over because quite ridiculous salaries are on offer. These pay packets are unsustainable in a real business model where the business has to support itself (a quaint concept).
Lescott is not desperate to leave Everton. But someone has offered to pay him an extra £10-15m over a 5 year contract. So of course he’s interested.
We should stop being so fucking precious, expecting players to come out and publicly say they love Everton so much that they’re not interested in doubling or tripling their income, What bollocks! There is a big difference in publicly saying you’re happy at a club when all you have is a bout of vague speculation and no firm offers or carrots being dangled, then in a situation were one club has publicly & privately courted a player for months and feeds advanced & precise details of its offers to print & broadcast media.
Who do some people run away from reality and just make up stories? there’s jobs for you boys at the Sun and Mail.

I would be extremely interested to know where ’fact’ number 3 comes from. Can you please provide a link? As far as I have seen the only ’evidence’ of him asking for a transfer has come from the tabloids, who are all lying twats. On a related note I see Shiteh are now being linked with Upson so maybe Roger isnt going anywhere.
