Lescott, Pienaar and Saha start - Joey injured and Senderos is in the crowd. Everton TV currently has Spanish commentary....

They look to be really going at Hibbert - Not keeping the ball well and they look comfortable on the ball
Colin Ryan

Get in! Solid finish that by Saha
Richard Murray
10   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:18:39

1-0, Saha

Ball across from the left by Baines, Cahill beat the keeper to it, a bit of a scramble, Ossie had a go and then Saha whacked it in.

Good start by the boys. Fellaini is looking lively.

Sean. the team is: Howard, Hibbo, Baines, Nev, Lescott; Pienaar, Fellaini, Cahill, Rodwell, Osman, Saha.

Reckon there’s about 12,000 there, but that’s just a guess.
Sean Dylan

21   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:22:21

Does anyone know who the subs are? Even the OS doesn’t say...

Beautiful play for Peanut for 2nd there...
Phil Roberts
22   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:22:15

Love the fact that Moyes is saying Fellaini has lost too much weight and the commentator keeps saying he is using his strength.

Well presume one of them is right
Jamie Barlow
23   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:23:14

Roger is getting a good reception.
Thomas Christensen
24   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:23:15

Pienaar and Fellaini are really good.

Note worthy is Lescotts distribution - quality

28   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:24:57

Nobody seems to be mentioning Bainesy here, he’s looking awesome, where can we get a right-sided version of him for £10!?
Richard Murray
29   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:24:34

Moyes has clearly had a go after them after the Blackpool debacle. We look a completely different side.

Add Arteta, Jags, Yak, Jo and possibly a new signing or two and things seem a lot better all of a sudden!
Jamie Barlow
30   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:25:11

Baines and Peinaar linking up well again.
David Parks
31   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:26:28

Agree Jamie - Our left hand side is our strength
Mike Coates
32   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:27:25

Just a winger and things are fine by me.

Hibbert is still silly..

But on the big occassions can be gold!

Absolutley nothing coming down the right - or is that when I go on to make a comment here :-)

34   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:30:55

The difference Pienaar makes is massive, its the shape of the team is so much better with him in the team

37   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:30:43

Little strange that Neville is playing CB & Rodwell is in midfield. Would like to see Rodwell playing in the back four.
Richard Murray
38   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:35:27

I think Nev has looked a lot better at CB than Rodwell did - so far. Rodwell is much better as a DM, at the moment, in my opinion.
David Parks
39   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:35:18

Rodwell was poor at CB against Blackpool and Coventry - Right decision for me to put Pip in there
Richard Murray
40   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:35:27

Ian Hams
41   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:28:24

By far a better performance so far. Baines and Peinaar are looking red hot, Fellaini is looking a lot sharper, the back is tighter and the all round possession and passing game much better.
Colin Ryan
42   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:36:20

whats the latest with peanuts contract?tie him down to a long term deal asap...best player on the pitch for me
David Parks
43   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:36:50

Considering he has been injured in pre-season, Pienaar is looking fantastic

Great to hear from Unsie... very sensible intelligent comments.

Blues are playing nicely... putting on a show. (Except just them when they gave away a needless corner)
Mike Coates
45   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:39:24

We were more likely to win with Pienaar in the team during the season (sorry to repeat anyone, cant read everything, jumping between game and FML) ;)

Baines and Pienaar together, a solid Lescott in defence.

Saha up front.

Everton = Dangerous :)

The footballclubonline.com website works really well. Does it show games during the season?

Pienaar best player on the pitch by miles but Osman not bad either for a change
Paul O'Hanlon
48   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:44:50

Why would anyone expect a full house at a pre-season game against an average Spanish team when we’ve signed no new players? Hats off to those who’ve gone
Jamie Barlow
49   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:49:23

I’m sure i read somewhere that it was going to be a full house.
Gavin Ramejkis
50   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:47:29

Got to agree Paul, sell out not a chance, not without a single first team player signed, and if that single player does turn out to be Lumberarse then thats a fucking disgrace

What’s the story with Yobo? Who else is missing (apart from Yakubu, Arteta, Jagielka and Anichebe?) Any idea of the subs (no listed on OS)...
Ainsley Dale
52   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:58:10

Jo missing.
Keith Glazzard
53   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:54:35

Let’s not get carried away here, but class players on display here tonight - Fellaini, Pienaar, Saha, Baines and the kid, Rodwell. (Ididn’t include Cahill because that’s what he is and does).

Hopes for a good second half
Colin Ryan
54   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:58:17

subs tonight are the cream of the american 4th division and half the everton under 14s team!!
John Conaghan
55   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:59:17

The OS lists the subs as Nash, Gisling, Vaughan, Akpan, Wallace and Shane Duffy. It says Yobo is out with a cold.
Steve Hopkins
56   Posted 07/08/2009 at 21:00:02

Subs are Dan Gosling, Carlo Nash, Hope Akpan, James Vaughan, James Wallace and Shane Duffy
John Conaghan
57   Posted 07/08/2009 at 21:00:35

Gosling even..
Thomas Christensen
58   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:58:42

Keith - I think you are quite right I’m not sure that Saha has been all that good. Although the defense hasn’t really been tested Captain Pip is doing pretty well, trying to pass the ball and not HOOOF.

Osman and Hibbert is doing ok - not great and no improvement from last year.
Aidy Dews
59   Posted 07/08/2009 at 20:54:16

Hibbert’s our weak link in the team; once we get our right hand side sorted and a decent holding midfield player we’ll be alrite I think.
Jamie Barlow

where you watching guys?iraq goals went down on me?
David Parks
63   Posted 07/08/2009 at 21:08:29

Being hyper-critical there, soft free kick given away by Cahill as a result of Joleon bombing up the left hand side and getting caught out of position
Phil Roberts

Kick for the home game in the Europa cup is at Midnight according to the OS!!
David Parks
80   Posted 07/08/2009 at 21:40:13

I think that is because they dont know Sean! This year, Europa League games will kick off at 5.30 and 8pm to allow for maximum TV coverage - Be a nightmare for a Goodison game at 5.30 on a Thursday!
Steve Pugh
81   Posted 07/08/2009 at 21:45:17

Osman is looking stronger tonight, not getting knocked off the ball as much.
Gary Rimmer
82   Posted 07/08/2009 at 21:45:19

Surprised no-one has mentioned Neville. Played well tonight and looks comfortable at CB - top guy. And I had him written if season before last.
Sean Joyce
83   Posted 07/08/2009 at 21:47:30

Do not wish to P*** on anyones bonfire, but Pip at CB against Malaga is one thing but against the Arse.....now thats is a different ball game!!!!. It has to be Roger and Joey if all things remain the same.
Jimmy Saville
84   Posted 07/08/2009 at 21:48:35

Has any one seen Fellani play well in 2 hales of a full game. Outstanding in first half, not much cop in 2nd half.
John Conaghan
85   Posted 07/08/2009 at 21:50:42

It’s finished 2-1. Good performance overall.
Colin Ryan
86   Posted 07/08/2009 at 21:53:18

Thought we looked pretty decent tonight.Peanuts and Fellaini the best performers for me.When the signings (Arteta,Yak,Jags) arrive we’ll be comfortably in the top 8 again!Best of luck to Bill in the euromillions tonight
Keith Glazzard
87   Posted 07/08/2009 at 22:14:02

Malaga, La Liga top 8 side. Remember Villareal? A few years on, and we looked like the cultured continental side with them dishing out the fouls.

Pienaar, The Big Fella and Rodwell must have had euro scouts looking on with millions in their eyes tonight.

Pip played a very good game in this new position. He could do that, if required, in the PL.

Week off - ready for next week.
Peter Griffin
88   Posted 07/08/2009 at 23:08:43

Gosling, Vaughan, Baxter and Wallace all got on.

Fellaini played well.

Their goal was a class free kick.

Highlight of the night was a little lad about 3 in an Everton kit getting on the pitch from the family enclosure, running over to the Bullens and back to applause.

We need somebody on the right desperately!
Gavin Ramejkis
89   Posted 08/08/2009 at 10:50:25

Not bad performance and some pretty good stuff indeed from Pienaar but what I can say is that it fizzled out very quickly after the substitutions and we lost shape and ended up chasing the ball like headless chickens so two guesses on who should be playing when the league kicks off and who won’t.

Still painfully short on players, was shaming to see Malaga make nearly as many subs as we have first team players. Cracking free kick too, that deserved a round of applause all round.
Lionel Luthor
90   Posted 09/08/2009 at 00:48:01

As already stated, a decent performance from the lads. Pienaar had a great game. If only our right hand side was as productive.

Good show of support by the fans too, well appreciated by Lescott I would have thought.

Hopefully we’ll bring in one or two players to boost the numbers as we deffo looked far less threatening when Pienaar went off. Screech looked much improved though. All in all, a far better performance than against Blackpool.
