Sessegnon gathers steam

Comments (44)

So by the looks of things this morning the rumour mill seems to be gathering speed on Moyes' €17m interest in Sessegnon.... Don't really know to much about him but he can apparently play in any attacking midfield role (hopefully right wing) and it sounds like he has pace according to the following article on goal.com:

http://www.goal.com/en/news/90/france/2009/08/10/1432283/everton-preparing-17m-bid-for-psgs-stephane-sessegnon-report

They call him the pocket rocket... Anybody any views on him?

Apparently Moyes watched Stephane Sessegnon of PSG play Montpellier the weekend.

Er, Peter Griffin, Sky Sports: "Paris St Germain ace Stephane Sessegnon has signed a contract extension, ending rumours of interest from a number of Premier League clubs."

The ink on the contract extension newly signed by Stephane Sessegnon bonding him to Paris Saint-Germain until 2013 may barely be dry, however, that will not stop Everton making a move for the dynamic midfielder before the close of the transfer window, according to L’Equipe.

According to the Parisian-based daily sports paper, the Merseyside outfit are preparing a €17 million for the pocket-rocket, who can line-up anywhere in an attacking midfield area.

17 million euro?

Not going to happen. If we can’t get a deal for Senderos, Elm, Naughton sorted at mush cheaper prices, then we definitely not splashing €17 mil on one player.

How many attacking midfielders do we need!

Right wing and central midfield!!!

The Liverpool Echo confirm Moyes was in France the weekend to watch Montpellier vs PSG.

They also state we rejected a £3.5million bid from Stoke for Vaughan.

Why do we bother. Every season is the same - expectations but no end result. Other clubs sign players within days -eg Villa amnd Delph.

Maybe BK is too busy trying to find a buyer???

Still when our injuyed players are back it will be ’like new signings?’

Have I heard that one before?

For the last 2 seasons we have all known we need a new RB and a pacy RM. Thought that the cup final was the final straw and both DM and BK had finally taken note and would do something about it. But NO, and even if we get a couple of players this week it will be far far too late for the game against the Gunners.

But hey this is Everton and we will all be there on Saturday.

Maybe he wasn’t there to look at him and was actually trying to grab big Sam’s target, 31-year-old, right winger Jerome Rothen... he seems to like 30-somethings these days!
Alan Clarke
11   Posted 10/08/2009 at 15:43:55

Even that would be good Lee but I’m fearing now we’re not signing anyone. I’ve just read Moyes’s latest comments on the Teamtalk website. I’ve held some belief that we might have something lined up because Moyes hasn’t moaned about the lack of players. Well now he’s moaning that it’s hard to find players on the cheap who don’t want much wages, who will improve the squad. That to me has now killed all hope of signing anyone as it sounds like we really are skint.

12   Posted 10/08/2009 at 15:44:08

I don’t think the Sessegon link is likely, but (according to the Echo anyway), we know that Moyes was at the game so he is probably interested in a Montpellier or PSG player.

We also know that Jerome Rothen is available, could possibly be a shout. He was a class winger a couple of years back but I admit I haven't seen much of him since to comment. Although he is a left winger. Maybe Piennar to be switched to the right, although I wouldn't really want to seperate him and Baines. But anyway. Just an idea because I don't think Moyes was looking at Sessegon.
Lee McIntosh
13   Posted 10/08/2009 at 16:02:23

We’re always skint aren’t we? But Moyes always seems to pull something out of his hat... Probably be a loan signing, and I personally don’t mind them, they tend to give 110% to the cause as they probably want a full contract after impressing.

Let’s wait and see... Worrying there’s no news on Senderos as cover for Jags yet though too.

14   Posted 10/08/2009 at 16:04:29

Rothen would be a decent squad player, cover etc. I honestly think tho, that the way we have played since Arteta has been injured, and the zero signings we have made, added to the fact we now have fit strikers, that Arteta may find himself back out wide right when he gets back, and stick with Fella, Cahill and Pip Nev in the middle!
Michael Ward
15   Posted 10/08/2009 at 16:08:13

Just read in the Echo that Moyes is considering playing Piennar in the middle, but that we are short of options out wide. Think that strengthens the possibility he was having a look at Rothen.

I think Areta will stay in the middle I think he played some of his best football in that position. We’re stuck with Ossie out right I reckon, saying that, Big Vic played ok in the couple of games he played there at the end of the season.

I cant see him dropping Cahill, Fellaini or Pienaar, and certainly not Neville, so Osman would be the one for the chop in my opinion. If Moyes has said that about Pienaar, then how? He would play behind a striker I presume. A position we actually have plenty of players for already! Saying that though, this is Everton, so the second Arteta gets back, that will be Cahill out for the season, probably Fellaini too!
Peter Griffin

Sakho (a big strong left sided CB) and Sessegnon are the stand out players from what I seen in the Emirates cup on sky.

So any of those other players available as loans or Bosmans?

More like hot air.....this is just another pointless post.....speculation if you like....it’s pointless because this boy just isn’t going to sign for us days (weeks) after signing a new contract at his current club.
Face it boys (and girls) we are unlikely to be signing anyone of significance, because never mind the fee, we simply don’t have the budget it terms of cash for the wages.

I would wager we are somewhere near the ceiling in terms of our budgets for wages anyway, irrespective of whether we let the 3 or 4 guys go at the end of last season.... Sorry guys i guess i am a little disgruntled at the lack of activity of our once great club. I can’t believe the Hull City have out spent us this year....it beggars belief!
Richard Murray
21   Posted 10/08/2009 at 17:35:02

Mark, while I’m not suggesting we’ll be signing this one (do we have anywhere that amount of money to spend on one player?), I certainly wouldn’t assume he wouldn’t leave because he’s just signed a new contract.

The clubs do that to ensure they get the highest possible transfer fee. And, although I know he asked for a new contract because he wanted a pay rise, you only have to look as far as Roma’s latest prodigal son, Aquilani, jumping ship a couple of months after signing a long term deal with them to realise signing a contract doesn’t mean any player is staying put.

Look at Lescott even!
Tom Bowers
22   Posted 10/08/2009 at 17:58:15

This is just another rumour like many others. DM has just voiced his disappoitment at not being able to sign anyone. Problem is all the clubs selling are wanting ridiculous fees for players some of them average at best and some unproven. Apart from the apparent panic purchase of Fellaini DM is watching his budget and won’t make the same mistake again.

The centre of defence is crucial and is number one priority at present until Man City get who they want. Once they are sorted we will see if Lescott is here for a while but Senderos would be a good cover if necessary but apart from that I see no-one else coming in now as even the bona fide names we have been connected to seem to be overvalued or want too much in wages.

24   Posted 10/08/2009 at 18:06:29

Can't see this one happening if I'm honest, we just haven’t got that kind of money... and if we did have as little as £15m to spend, which I very much doubt (meaning we have less probably btw!), then Moyes wouldn't blow it all on one midfielder when he has made it clear we need a few players to boost the squad!

I can remember us being linked with Sessegnon whilst he was at Le Mans before PSG and we never followed it up and he went to PSG relevantly cheap if I remember rightly? But why does Moyes never take a chance and get in there first before letting 'em go to another club and doing well and proving themselves and therefore their value doubles or even triples?!

Sessegnon is a good player who usually plays either right or left hand side and sometimes plays centrally too but mainly wide. He would definitely be a good signing for our right hand side! I would love the rumour to be true but just can't see it. I just can't see anything happening with Everton at the minute to be honest, it’ll be another last week rush in the market, won't it — like last year... Oh the joys of being a Blue, aye!!!

I know the worst posible way to assess a player is from ho=is youtube clips, but check this out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVn3M_kP4Ck If the guys first touch and control is half as good as it appears, then I could almost get excited about this one. He also seems to be a very solid if small guy and has that Arteta knack of being difficult to knock off the ball. He a Mikel in the same m/f could be something to see.

But why am I even bothering with this fantasy it won’t happen, but then maybe just maybe at five to midnight on transfer deadline day..........

Maybe he has decided to stay on Blackpool beach.
Lionel Luthor
27   Posted 10/08/2009 at 18:53:23

Sorry, but Moyes is as full as shit as that buffoon Chairman of ours.

It’s all very well saying we don’t have a pot to piss in and how hard it is to bring in players AFTER idiots like myself fork out yet again for another Season ticket.

Dress it up anyway you want, he is part of the Kenwright bullshit brigade. The only difference is he’s earned his mega bucks by delivering on the pitch. Behind the scenes, he’s just as bad as the rest.

We’re being taken for mugs. We’re treading water when we should be taking forward steps to improve the team.

I for one, am sick and tired of blues who won’t hear a bad word said against Moyes and who think we should just be grateful we’re not fighting relegation......bullshit! We should be building on the foundations Moyes has put in place rather than being placated because we made a cup final and nudged out Villa for 5th.

When Spurs get their act together and City are a regular top 4 team, we’ll be fighting it out with the likes of Villa, Fulham and West Ham and that fucking rattles me when we had/have a chance to progress and keep up the momentum of the past few years. Do any of you seriously believe Arteta & Pienaar will hang around if we have a shit season?

Moyes has had weeks and weeks to strengthen and has done nothing. Nothing. And before anyone starts with "we’re skint so what can he do", remind yourselves of last summer when he was humming and haring over signing his contract because he wanted to see that the club were able to match his own ambitions.

Fast forward 12 months and what has changed?? Zero. We’re being financially out-fought by the likes of Hull City.

Big ambitions, hey?

Just one other thought, where did the FA, Cup and league placing money go? One would assume we wouldn’t have budgeted that last season we definitely would finish top 5, and certainly that we would definitely reach an FA Cup final, so where then is that revenue?

28   Posted 10/08/2009 at 19:19:39

It's a joke that we have not signed anybody so far. The shortcomings in our team at right back and right midfield are there for everybody to see. It's not rocket science where our weak links are. Least we know how teams are going to get at us all season and we decided not to do anything about it.

Osman & Hibbert down the right is sending shivers down my spine with fear and must have Arshavin licking his lips. Over a week since beginning talks with Senderos/Arsenal. Over 3 since we showed Elm around Finch Farm. Other teams do transfers in a day. We’ve had over 40 days and still can't sign anyone.

John Martin
29   Posted 10/08/2009 at 19:23:47

Amen to Lionel Luthor. Maybe the club has matched Moyes ambitions he is in a no lose situation. We finish 5th he gets all the credit we finish below that and Kenwright takes the blame.

Moyes is a great manager for us from september 1st we couldnt have anybody better in our situation. But during the transfer window he is part of the problem. No other manager who has done what he has would stand back and not demand a decent transfer kitty. He wants Bosman signings etc they’ve been available since July 1st...

For What It’s Worth, I am now of the opinion that DM has had enough of the likes of Spuds, Barcodes, Shitty et all outbidding him for his carefully sought out targets. So we lead those tossers a merry dance for 2 months and land OUR real target when they have spent their budget on players we did not want anyway. Well it’s a thought!!

32   Posted 10/08/2009 at 20:22:52

Lionel I have to agree with you a bit about Moyes. We had the quote last year about not being ready and today he has said similar regarding Europe and our squad size. He stated they start looking at players in April and yet four months down the line we have nothing.

If we are that skint then surely someone should of been sacrificed to help fund new player in areas we are low in, but if we do have some money then why have we pissed around waiting till the last minute again?

The likes of Elm should be told, "Sign or do one". Every transfer we get involved in turns into a bloody soap opera, Senderos the latest one.

Everyone has strengthened bar us, even the likes of Sunderland will be much stronger this year, I am quite sure we will buy and no doubt last minute rush jobs but it is just so annoying when Carter, Elstone and Moyes have all preached about not making last years mistakes and yet here we are again with our Manager preaching similar words twelve months on.

He has done a superb job for us but he has his flaws too, but the slightest gripe at him and you become some nasty boo boy.

A good manager must realise where his team's weaknesses are and address them. If he fails to realise his team's weaknesses or fails to address them then I think it makes him a shit manager. Moyes can be classed as a good coach and a good tactician but if we go into this season with the squad we have without adding to it then I think that makes him a shit manager.

35   Posted 10/08/2009 at 21:27:48

I like Moyes, and he has done some wonders for us... But I wouldn’t class him as a good tactician-he’s often slow to make the decision to sub that most could see a mile off. As to whether this summer’s lack of signings is his fault, well we haven’t given in to City’s pots of gold and Moyes said himself that we’d not be splashing out-regardless of the rumours. The transfers sendahorse and elm, well again how we can’t tried these deals up is beyond me... Perhaps free tickets to Wright’s plays aren’t being accepted as currency this year.

haven’t read the Moyes quote’ but if what I saw headlined ’Moyes worried about lack of transfers’ then it seems the only way that a manager who’s under contract can say it’s not my fault.
Marc Williams
36   Posted 10/08/2009 at 22:17:55

Lionel Luther - Spot on fella with those comments, expresses just how I feel.

I see Moyes is quoted as feeling ’demented’ by his inability to sign anyone.
WELL... How does he think we bloody feel getting this nonsense every summer, without even the silver lining of £65k per week to console us? These days I start dementing every July 1st in anticipation of what is or more likely NOT going to happen.

I tell you what Davey lad, you’d better come clean over the financial constraints or sort out your dithering. If you don’t you may scupper your chances of getting your dream Job as I doubt Utd wouldn’t put up with this farce.
Brendan O'Doherty
37   Posted 11/08/2009 at 00:11:28

Lionel Luthor, the answer to you your last question must be DK. Nothing happening until we get the decision on that. It can be the only reason for this farce that we now find ourselves in again. Can’t agree fee for Senderos? FFS!

39   Posted 11/08/2009 at 06:06:57

It will be interesting to see how many of those teams mentioned in this thread (ie. Man City, Hull, Sunderland, Spurs) finish above us come the end of the season. Moyes has stated that he is looking to bring in quality and not your Average Joe. At the end of the day, if the board has tightened the purse strings.. then there’s not much DM can do is there?!
Alan Clarke
40   Posted 11/08/2009 at 08:30:05

Nick, if we’re competing in Europe with this squad, I anticipate all of those team will finish above us (except Hull). Last season’s 5th was amanged because of the lack of extra games. Moyes has been placed in a situation by Kenwright now where he has to prioritise by either selling off his best players (which he won’t do) or sacrificing Europe to maintain a league challenge.
Nick Xenos
41   Posted 11/08/2009 at 12:15:39

Alan, we managed to finish fifth the season before last despite having a long run in Europe, a similar sized squad, and having lost players to the AFCON. The competition has no doubt become stronger since then (and so have we to a degree) but I doubt Man City’s new boys will gel right away, whereas the other teams mentioned need to do alot of improving before they can even match us. I’m still quietly confident though that Moyes will get someone in just before transfer deadline.
Alan Clarke
42   Posted 11/08/2009 at 12:50:27

But Nick we didn’t have injuries to Yakubu, Arteta and Jagielka at the start of the season. The Europa league has doubled the amount of group stage games this year. By March in the season you talk about, we were fucked. Going into the away game against Fulham in March we were 4th. The loss against Fiorentina did us in, the team looked physically jaded and only a poor run in from those teams around us helped us maintain 5th. We should be aiming for 4th this year but cometing in Europe will put an end to that. Our tiny squad cannot accommodate any more injuries. Imagine if Pienaar gets injured against Arsenal, we’ll be well and truly screwed.
Alan Kirwin
43   Posted 11/08/2009 at 19:23:55

Firstly, our UEFA efforts season before last put paid to the perpetual gloom about too many games. Winning teams have momentum and confidence. Furthermore, it was only when we unluckily lost to Fiorentina that our form suffered. Confidence & momentum is far more important than having a squad of 64 players.

Secondly, I just watched some clips of Sessegnon and, forgive my language so early in the evening, but he looks fucking fabulous. Who knows if Moyes really was eyeing him up. But if he was then viens a Goodison mon ami, oui, oui, oui !!

44   Posted 12/08/2009 at 18:45:06

Alan, are you being serious that you anticipate Sunderland will finish above us? SUNDERLAND??!! I mean, I can see where the argument comes from re City and Spurs (although I disagree), but SUNDERLAND??!! Were you not at the Stadium of Light toward the end of last season? We (missing the same players we’re missing now) made them look every ounce the terrible team they were, and still will be. Especially with Bruce in charge! SUNDERLAND??!! omg. And we played 48 games last season, and guess when we looked stronger? When the games came thick and fast and we were on a run and building momentum. I know we’re all a little frustrated at the lack of transfer activity, but let’s not get deluded. Sunderland, still laughing, he he.
