Moyes's Attitude

Comments (19)

I was just wondering what people's thoughts were about Moyes's attitude going into this season?

Today I've read quotes from him talking about the lack of numbers: "But we don't have that money. So trying to find players who are cheap, don't want much wages and will come here to improve us, well, it is not easy."

This is the first thing he's said all summer that shows any hint of frustration at our squad size but unlike previous years he's not directing it at the board. Is he just shrugging his shoulders? Is Moyes resigned to the fact he's not going to sign anyone so is not going to bother getting too annoyed about it?

Moyes has also spoken recently about wanting to challenge in Europe this year but I really don't see how we can with a squad of 20 players of which three are long-term injured and one other is called Louis Saha.

My thoughts are that Moyes, now, may not plan too far ahead and just think, "Fuck it, I'll play my strongest team in every game until they're all absolutely worn out. That'll then demonstrate to Billy how important it is to find me some investment." So perhaps this is the season he stops papering over the cracks and by January, our players will be just too tired to compete. Moyes has already shown he's a good manager and he's picking up a huge wage. Will a dip in form after Christmas bother him too much with the possibility of the Man Utd job on the horizon? Especially as he can now just blame it on the small squad.

What annoys me most about Everton is that no-one inside the club seems to share the fans' frustration about our utterly shambolic transfer policy and the complete lack of numbers in the squad. I'm almost at the point of thinking we should not bother putting a team out against the Czechs just so we can maintain some sort of a challenge in the league. If we're involved in Europe with the squad we have we can kiss goodbye to any hope of finishing top 4. I will not hold Moyes completely blameless if this happens.

So with those crazy looks and those bulging eyes David Moyes finally admits that he a mental illness in this article:

http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,14018_5483528,00.html

All joking aside, Moyes, your preaching to the choir; we, the fans are just as frustrated if not more by the lack of movement of players coming into the club. The strange thing is why Moyes has made these comments at all. Is it to try to appease us saying that he understands our frustration, or is it something deeper? Like a dig at Kenwright to give him some cash or his unhappiness.

After last years farce in the Summer transfer market, and all the talk that players would be in early to bed them in. You'd've thought that lessons were learnt. It's interesting to see that Moyes pretty much says that we are skint again, and that he can't find any bargains that are cheap and don't want to be paid much. Also it looks like he is laying the blame on the Senderos deal delay on Arsenal as he says that the bids in their hands. Which probably means that we have offered money that is nowhere near the price Arsenal are looking to sell him.

Are we the only Prem club still to sign anyone?.... Please don't say Jo on loan. Still it's nice to see that yet again we are building on the finishing 5th. We are still watching the space Bill.

How long do you fellow blues honestly think Moyes will put up with this?

I am astounded, demented even by the article on the BBC website quoting David Moyes saying that he is feeling 'demented' by the lack of signings.

Now forget for the moment that he is the man who is in charge of making them, but what the fuck is he doing announcing this to the world? What could possibly be achieved by telling the world that he is incapable of finding anyone???!!!! Especially after the Naughton affair.

I cannot believe that he would be that stupid — isn't this a bit like saying that he is incompetent??

We have no choice but to run a small squad with the highest quality we can afford. There is money available but we have to get the best return for it, both in terms of quality and potential.
The difficulty we have now is that only higher quality layers will actually give us some improvement. This summer the price of those players has shot up again thanks to the activities of Man City amongst others - theirs is a war of a different type where you put as much pressure on your rivals as possible by pushing their budgets as far as possible - even the likes of Man U are finding it hard to spend this summer so far. No doubt Lescott will be looking for a wage rise if he stays.

Moyes is showing empathy for us fans with these comments and also underlining to other clubs & agents that bigger bids won’t be coming from Everton FC. Players will be waiting for bigger bids to come in and perhaps only move to a club like Everton if those bids don’t materialise - hence the signing of many players in the last week or two.
Moving the end of the transfer window to coincide with the start of the season might help this impractical situation where many players move after the first few games of the season?

With Bullshit Billy in charge we have no chance of ever seeing investment and thus another transfer window passes by without any reasons to be excited.

Rupert, DM is just admitting the club is potless, why bother lying about it? Kenshite out, anyone must be better than this?

Richard Dodd aside, is there one Evertonian who is not incredibly frustrated and pissed off by our lack of signings? That must surely be enough to start demanding some answers from Kenwright. I was willing to give Kenwright the benefit of the doubt at the beginning of this summer but I feel a complete fool for believing any of his bullshit again.

All of us must surely have learnt the lesson that Kenwright is skint, he’s never going to find us any investment, he will continueously lie to make sure we buy our season tickets and he has absolutely no intention of selling. I am absolutely sure now that a breaking point is coming - either the manager will want out or the players or both. Kenwright’s ’business model’ for Everton is now totally unsustainable.

Don’t assume for one minute that Richard Dodd is not as frustrated as everyone else. But Richard is a pragmatist and I totally understand and accept that with DK weeks away from approval, there is a need at this time to constrain the transfer budget.I do know that Davey was given the assurance that should he decide to let Lescott go to Man City,EVERY PENNY would be available for new signings.
At the moment it looks like he will be fighting for scraps on deadline day.But hold the faith-he usually comes up with a good ’un!

So Richard, Everton are holding back funds for Kirkby? I also thought the decision was not until November?

Richard...pragamatist? That’s not what I’d call you!
If you are seriously happy to see funds whch we urgently need for team improvement kept back for the Kirkby cowshed you want shooting
If you’re also advocating that we sell our best players to preserve the Kirkby cash you want hanging first
Richard Dodd
10   Posted 11/08/2009 at 10:04:03

I’m not advocating that at all-but where the hell do you think the money for a new ground will come from if it’s not out of club’s revenues? Of course we want to see new signings but you can’t spend what you haven’t got. That’s what Davey has been saying!Bosman’s R us !

11   Posted 11/08/2009 at 10:12:59

David Moyes has consistenly stated no-one is for sale; I presume, from what you say, he is being forced to backtrack and sell to obtain funds because any cash in hand is being kept back for kirkby - that IS what your are saying, above
Shameful! Successive board’s over 25 years of mismanagement have put Everton in this position
And supporters with your attitude have condoned it

Of course, all the clubs with players that want to come to Everton like Senderos and Elm, now know that we are skint and that there is no point trying to squeeze an exrta few quid out of the deal.

It’s worrying.

I always got the impression Moyes got his "bumper" contract because a he thought (and is) worth it but also to toe the line.

Rupert, surely you can see that this isn’t Moyes putting on a Mr Magoo act... he’s saying

"trying to find players who are cheap [Pannini sticker swaps and a back rub from Mr Kenwright], don’t want much wages [will buy into the dream sold to the current lot that we’re going somewhere so they’ll be rewarded longer term] and will come here to improve us [aren’t shit], well, it is not easy [is an utter fucking nightmare]"

Oh and Richard, Chad doesn’t like people who talk about themselves in the thrid person - it makes them look like knobs.

Why would our players be too tired to compete by January, Alan? Unless injured, in which case we will suffer for lack of depth in the squad, why shouldn’t any player be capable of playing all through the season? Top level football is demanding, of course, but these men are professional athletes who enjoy the best of training, care & preparation.

If kenwright is fucking Moyes about, which is highly likely, I would have a lot more respect for Moyes, if he told kenwright to stuff his job, and he walked away. I don’t think he would be out of a job for very long. What is very worrying though, there are still fans who still think kenwright is a wonderful chap. The mind boggles!!!

Why have more than 11 players in that case Dennis? The reason a lot of inuries occur is due to playing a hefty amount of matches and not getting enough recovery time. We will be fucked if we have to compete in Europe with this squad.

Chad, you’re onto something important. Where I work I see quite a few people, who are, how shall I put it, not entirely wise. A common link between them is the constant referral to themselves in the third person. Every post that Richard has made can now be viewed in a new and more kindly light.

Richard, the money for the new ground will come from the pockets of the Arab/American/Laplandian who has already sent 50 messages to BK only to find him unwilling to sell or even listen. How dare you suggest that we should have to put some money forward for it ourselves!

Gavin Ramejkis Posted:"Kenshite out, anyone must be better than this?"

That’s a very short memory you have there Gavin.

I’m sure we’d all switch him for someone who could generate more funds for the team, but that person doesn’t exist. Personally I wouldn’t want Man Utd's, Chelsea's, or Liverpool’s owners — our club couldn’t sustain the kind of debt they would bring.

If the rumours are true then the Man City owners really are a one-off, gifting huge sums of money to the club. A bit unfair comparing BK to that isn’t it?
