What if Moyes walks?

Comments (61)

With the Lescott saga turning nasty and the press suggesting that Hughes has gone over Moyes's head to get his man, I reckon we need to brace ourselves for Davey Boy walking. And the posts I have read suggest that a lot of us would recognise his reasons for doing so.

IF that comes to pass, I was wondering who would be willing to take on the manager's role bearing in mind a lot of the current team (and more significantly the younger ones who will have known no other manager and/or youth team coaching staff who will likely follow DM out the door) would be very unhappy and look for the exit too. Steve McClaren anyone?

Moyes is extremely well paid for occupying a perennial no-lose situation. Nothing Mark Hughes can do or say would make him even consider vacating it.

Moyes will walk eventually....but only when there’s another job available.
Stephen Kenny
7   Posted 14/08/2009 at 12:20:57

Darren Ferguson, Di Matteo, Simon Grayson, Alan Irvine.

David Moyes has done an excellent job and I regard SAF as the only better manager in the league. But if he went, there are plenty of other up-and-coming young good managers who could take us forward.

No idea who would replace Moyes at the moment, who else would put up with Kenwright? But I can deffo see Moyes walking if Lescott is sold without his approval. Vic Chandler are offering 50/1 for Moyes to be first manager to leave... Hmmm, might stick a £5 on that, it’d console me if it happens.

SAF might fancy a challenge... alternatively Blue Bill might fancy his hand.

God let’s hope it doesn’t happen but, if it did, my bet would be Round stepping up to the plate.

Jesus you’re all just taking it for granted that because Hughes is going over Moyes’s head that the people who he’s going to won’t back Moyes.... FFS sake do you all think so little of those people that you’re not even giving them the benefit of the knowledge that they KNOW Moyes would walk.

Do Evertonians not yey know that if there’s one thing you can say about Moyes it’s that he has principles, and he sticks to them! (to his cost in the past I’d say)...

Have at least a little bit of faith in Moyes being backed.... and I’ll be honest if Lescott IS sold againt Moyes wishes and he (Moyes) walks... I for one will walk with him and never go to an Everton game again! I’m saying that coz I’m SURE that scenario won’t play out!!!!

If he did ’walk’ then we wouldn't owe him a cent for his new contract right? He won't go, not at least 'til the Utd job comes along...
Dom Eaton
15   Posted 14/08/2009 at 13:28:51

Alan, he will be out of a job soon, respect him as a player but don’t want him here.

Moyes will not go till we win something. Then I will wish him all the best at Man Utd.

Moyes walk. Please.

GP would be a war zone if our man Moyes took flight. BK knows this.

IMO the man who Markie Mark Hughes wants to have a chat with IS Davie Moyes. But I would say that Mr Moyes is presently "not in the office at the moment" with the words "Fuck off Mr Hughes" on his answer phone.

When does it get to the stage, if there is such a stage, that we, Everton, can actually sue this City and there arab mafia for tapping up Lescott? and ya can include all these shitty newspapers in it to? We are being held to ransom and the player too, Lescott, has had his mind changed because of $$$$ FFS unreal why the fuck arent we going mad and doing something about this shit???
Ciarán McGlone

They have done nothing that constitutes tapping up.

You are working yourselves into an unecessary frenzy...and it’s getting beyond ridiculous.

Suzy, I suspect, already pulls the strings inside Goodison.

Dom, I was clearly taking the piss about Hughes. In fact, I’m still bitter about the fact Hutchison left because the club wouldn’t pay him £28,000 that they were paying Hughes even though Hughes was utter shite for us as a player. He is obviously an appauling man as a manager and as a person after the way he has conducted himself over this whole Lescott saga. I don’t want him anywhere near Goodison.
Anthony Doran
24   Posted 14/08/2009 at 14:30:43

ARGH!
If this isnt a case of unsettling a player and squeezing another club until they sell then I dont know what is, as a supporter I just want an end result and I wanted it last week. 2 bids rejested and a firm stance by the cklub that we ARE NOT SELLING yet Hughes still goes on with his mouthpiece until the player hands ina transfer request, I dont know what tapping up is but this seems beyond it!

As the original poster, I would have to disagree with Suzy that it is a "Stupid, stupid post" as I was merely dangling a carrot for a reaction! We know DM is a man of principle and I do believe if Lescott is sold from under his feet, then he may well walk out.
I was just wondering who we favoured when the blood dried out but it seems that the post has turned into an anti Hughes rant — and there will be many from every non-City supporter over this season.

I have just read we have pulled out of the Senderos deal and Sunderland are now favourites to land him.

Also, Van der Vaart from Real Madrid is available on a free as Madrid never gave him a squad number and FIFApro have said they haven’t honoured his contract. Be a great signing for us but same old same old..... can’t afford him!!
Anthony Doran

31   Posted 14/08/2009 at 15:16:03

Van Der Vaart’s wife has breast cancer so he is choosing his next club around where the best treatments is available for her.

I doubt if Real not issueing him a squad number will mean he is available on a free transfer.

To be fair though he was never likley to be coming here, i’d guess he wants more than £45k a week!

I can’t believe there are fans wanting to stoke up this kind of speculation. There’s no evidence of any division between Moyes and the club, or that the club are ready to sell Lescott. Far from feeling undermined, Moyes is showing every sign of looking forward to the new season. He ain’t going anywhere anytime soon.

The City manager says he wants to speak to the people who make the decisions at our club, well that’s me. It may not be like other clubs, but at Everton the manager makes the decisions,” Moyes said.

That puts an end to this fucking thread!

He has never picked up the phone and spoken to me. I can’t say the way they have done business is right, it’s not the way we would do it. But I control things here, and maybe it’s not the same there.”

Joleon’s head has been twisted, but there has been no dialogue from City. We’ve said all along that he is a really important player for us, and maybe we value him more highly than they do,” Moyes said.

Ciaran, please define "tapping up" so that we can all join in the enlightnment.

I am under the impression that if a club contacts a player from another club, directly or indirectly, with the suggestion of an offer without the prior express permission of that club, then this is prima facie tapping up.

I’d like to understand how you believe there has been no contact with Lescott and, if so, why he is so keen to leave Everton and join Man City.

The public comments of Mark Hughes are a disgrace. The idea that Man City can openly suggest they can exert pressure from elsewhere other than through our manager and chairman, or CEO, is unbelievable.

I can live with Lescott being sold, even this late in the day, if we get a high price and can pre-secure a good central defender replacement, such as Turner from Hull. But because of the obscene levels of arrogance on show at Eastlands I would be equally happy if we retain one of the best defenders in the league, a) because we need him and b) just for spite.

Steve Sanchez, thanks for that link. Whether it ultimately proves right or not, it reads quite brilliantly. There is a growing number of City fans venting their discomfort with the monster that has been unleashed in Mark Hughes. The man needs to remember how good he was at Blackburn & the principles he employed. He’s found himself in the wrong job at the right time and is making enemies.
Anthony Doran
40   Posted 14/08/2009 at 15:47:33

i guess its all very techincal Ciarán, yes ok they have not being talking directly to Lescott but in every other way it is tapping up as they have been talking to him through the media, and he in turn by handing in a transfer request has ina way being talking to them, ok it not illegial but very underhanded and sly. Fair play to Moyes standing up to the money tyrant which has been ruining the game for years now!
Peter Griffin
41   Posted 14/08/2009 at 15:58:20

"We’ve been talking about it and we’ve not been concentrating on the start of the season, it’s disrupted us, so maybe that’s what overall whole plan was," Moyes added

"But I look back and I look at the way Real Madrid did their business with Manchester United; done right at the end of the season, done quickly, allows Manchester United to buy if they want to do so.

We can’t be getting offers with a week or two to go until the end of the deadline and the offers they made show that we value Joleon Lescott far greater than Man City do.

"Joleon’s a massive player for us, I’ve always said we don’t want to lose him, we think so much of him here, the players think so much of him. We don’t want Joleon to go, simple as that."

John Pendleton
42   Posted 14/08/2009 at 15:49:22

Joleon Lescott - If you’re after honour or honours I doubt very much you’ll get either at Man City. Just read http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/aug/14/david-moyes-joleon-lescott for an insight into the approach of the two managers.

You’re going nowhere yet. Get your head down and you might just get both at Goodison Park.

These ’super agents’ Zahavi and Jorabchim are the absolute leaches of football. They are the reason West Ham are financially fucked over the Tevez affair and the reason Sheffield Utd are in the Championship. They are the dickheads who’ve screwed us over with both Fernandes and Moutinho. The fact that City have engaged these twats into the whole thing sums up City. These 2 plus Mark Hughes should be banned from coming anywhere near Goodison. I’m all for keeping Lescott now on principle. No booing at him just a chant of "you’re not going anywhere, you’re not going, you’re not going, you’re not going anywhere, you’re not going anywhere."

Great to hear David Moyes having a go at Hughes... I hope we all get behind JL tomorrow to show support not only to him, but also David Moyes. It would also be like sticking two fingers up to Man City and the gutter press. What's the odds they still won't listen though?

"We absolutely recognise the need to strengthen - we are fiercely ambitious and if that is the case then you need to go one step further than fifth place and one step further than appearing in an FA Cup final. To do that we know we need to bring talent in and we are not sitting on our hands in any way. We are determined to strengthen the squad and take to the field in 2009-10 with a better squad than 2008-09 and that is the core strategy of the football Club." Bobby Elstone 22 June 2009

Given that it is now the fucking 14th of August, I think it is pertinent to look at the comments of our CEO nearly 3 months ago. I particularly like the part were we 'are not sitting on our hands in any way'. Well just exactly what have you been doing, Bobby, because the deadline closes in 2 weeks and you have not fulfilled this promise.

It's not that we are skint and can't afford to compete with every Premier League club for even average players that bugs me, it's the bullshit that eminates from the powers that be insinuating the opposite. Rant over.

Dont know who lol’d over the suggestion of Slaven Bilic, I think he would be an excellent shout.

To digress slightly... My friend used to be the head bar girl in a bar called Buro on Bold Street. Slaven and other Everton contempories used to frequent the place quite a lot and took a shine to her, in the nicest possible sense (just in case there is Mrs Bilic reading this!). Anyway he always used to tell her how much regard he held for the city, the people, and, more importantly, Evertonians. He even took her two younger cousins to Goodison for a match and took them into the dressing room to meet the players and see the sites. She said he was the most down-to-earth guy ever.

I would welcome him with open arms and I think he would do a cracking job if, god forbid, Moyes went.

I’d get Hodgson in if Moyes decides to fuck off.... And who would blame him if Everton decide to cash-in again (Rooney being the most memorable to date). Look at what he’s done at The Cotteagers, and with less cash than us.

Anyway, another cup run will do, and this time let's hope our 3 best players aren’t fucked in time for the final this time.

Onwards and fuck everyone else. Let's worry about Everton and if Lescott wants out then let him go and let's get the cash IMO.....

We’ll win the league nee bother.........

Alan,

You do not absorb what I tell you... patience. Patience. My news for you today is there is absolutely no foundation to the Steven Taylor link. The club have spoken to Newcastle but i am not aware of any conversation regarding Steven Taylor.

As for Anthony Doran being Ron Jeremy — you have got to be kidding me. Anthony is like a Gregg's sausage role — all pastry, no meat, and simply does not satisfy.

Sorry Suzy, it’s all cloak and daggers with you! You seemed certain Lescott was going. It doesn’t seem like he’s going anywhere after what Moyes has said today.

Will you take a wager? £5 on Lescott staying put. You can put the money towards the same charity Dave Wilson’s donating his fiver to after we don’t sign Barton.

For this great post you have been awarded the prize of the top band in Niarobi. This album is called "I want to build an extension to my straw hut"

Second,

£15M + SWP and it's a done deal. Then we have the money to cover centre half (Lescott) and to sort out the challenge for our tony at right back. In terms of Lescot in terms of everybody this is the stratergy we need to be looking at NOW.

Alan,

I am sorry mate but i am going to have to correct you again. It is starting to get fucking annoying with you to be honest. Now fucking listen;

"I seemed certain lescoott was going" Correction - i AM certain lescott is going. What have i ever said to suggest i have changed my mind? Perhaps this is another question you cant answer with an answer.

No i will not take a bet because it would be wrong to do so. Just promise me that you will make an apologetic post to me when he does sign.

I have never said it would definitely happen in this window. I have always maintained that he will absolutley 100% not be an everton player next season. Now absorb this simple information and do not respond unless you think first.

If something drastic happens i will happily come on here and admit i am wrong - nothing somethign which happens to me very often but it does happen.

Now shut and absorb the word i have suggested to you more often that any other - PATIENCE! Fucking PATIENCE Alan. There will be lots of comments in the press but dont act on every one thinking it is the conclusion presenting itself.

59   Posted 15/08/2009 at 10:59:15

That’s total back tracking Suzy. Will you come on and say in 3 years when lescott leaves at the end of his contract "I told you so". You said "Mark my words Lescott is definitely going" and to say you now didn’t mean it was this transfer window is complete bullshit, you knew what you meant. I therefore predict that Arteta will at some point leave Everton. When he leaves I’ll then be able to say "I told you so" and write PATIENCE in capital letters.

I’m glad I’ve got your back up, SUZY because I personally think you come on here and spout any old crap you can think up. You remind me of someone else who posted on here last year who’s mysteriously disappeared after making similar statements about us definitely signing Moutinho. I wonder whether your the same person who works somewhere in Italian football.

There’s one thing I can’t stand about transfer windows and it’s people like you who think you know but infact don’t know anything. How many of your stories will bear any fruit I wonder? Where was your prediction about this Valencia midfielder? That went totally under your radar.
Alan Clarke
60   Posted 15/08/2009 at 11:10:17

Did you also know Everton had made enquiries about Christopher Samba at Blackburn? I’ve a friend who works in the Blackburn medical team who’ll confirm this. I tend to keep any stories I hear under my hat because that’s all they are. Suzy, why don’t you name some players and some sources if you want to add some credibility to your stories. PATIENCE, my arse!
Suzy Whitehead
61   Posted 15/08/2009 at 12:10:38

Alan,

Thank you for your error littered response. It has again confirmed my thoughts. I have saved posts dated 1/8/9 and 4/8/9 which clearly state a pre-world cup sale and will send these to you after the transfer. You really are a grade A.

Everton have not enquired about any Blackburn player since January 09 (thats working form memory) and that was a defender but it was not Samba.

PATIENCE Alan PATIENCE
