48 hrs ... Guessing Time
Comments (37)
Quoted from David Moyes:
"We have got 13 or 14 players which I am happy with and we have some up-and-coming youngsters as well which gives us great hope," he said. "I hope maybe within the next 48 hours or so we will have a couple of new players added to the squad. If we do that then we will start to rebuild from the players we lost last season."
Any guesses at the couple of players? I wouldn't mind Tuncay to be honest. Gives us a few options with £6 million being the possible fee.

48 hrs? I would be (pleasantly) surprised if we manage to get anyone in by then.
It's going to be another seat-of-the-pants transfer deadline day! But as usual, it will be a couple of players we’ve not been linked to in the media.

I am in Los Angeles today and the big sports story over here is about the Philadelphia Eagles NFL team signing up a fallen star who has just spent the last 2 years in jail for arranging dog fighting and torturing our canine friends!
As he says, ’I made some bad decisions in the past’ - something of an understatement, but still they are prepared to give him a second chance. Even his new coach has sons in trouble with the Police over drug carrying!
So, I guess that means even Joey Barton could get a second chance.......

... or a 3rd or 4th or 5th or 6th chance...

I think Rasmus Elm will check in, can't really qualify why but I have had a gut feeling about him since he was linked with us. He would be a great addition, a typical Moyes signing in my opinion.
As for the other one, you would expect a centre back... I would be made up with Steven Taylor from the Barcodes — a much better prospect than Senderos.
If Barton joins, he will be in the clink by Christmas, guaranteed; reformed character (ha ha!) or not, there will always be some other knob’ed who will wind him up until he flips.

It's not only that Barton's a scumbag, he’s utter shite anyway...
I wouldn't mind Duff and Taylor on the cheap.

Moyes must be confident - he would never have said what he did otherwise. So something must have been going on, in private, for some time now. Elm perhaps, Taylor has been reported (which means nothing) as subject to an actual bid.
It's worth noting that Moyes also said that he was basically happy with his squad. He’s not looking to change too much, just strengthen.

I am split on the Taylor rumour. He is a half decent player and gives his all when playing, like Jags and Stubbs before him, he will get whatever he can in front of the ball to stop a goal (sometimes his hand and then on to a Platoon moment of such a grand scale it is comical http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vl3HnU0HOhk) but on the other hand is is a complete dickhead, can’t stand the man and his cheating, diving ways.
As always though, we footbal fans are so fickle that if he comes and scores a late winner he will be a hero for a while.

Two from: Rasmus Elm, Victor Obinna, Tuncay, Manny Fernandes (!)
On Loan: Hutton for RB from Spurs
Free: Ball for LB cover

SSN reported this morning that an "unamed" Premier League club has bid £4M for Duff...
...Make it £2.5M and i reckon we’d have a decent signing there — if he discovered anything like the form of late Blackburn/early Chelsea.

Where is Riquelme playing at the moment........

Senderos - we will have played Arsenal within the nex 48hrs (or so) - not that I am cynical or anything...

Riquelme is playing for Boca Juniors in Argentina, he will be too expensive for us plus he is getting on a bit now as well.

My guess, and it is just a guess based upon the way clubs conduct transfers at the moment, is that Senderos will sign after the game tomorrow. At least I hope he does anyway, not quite as much as I’d like the speculation over young Elm to prove true.

OK Citeh, £18 mill and Sean Wright and you have a deal.
Then, as cover, £500 for a centre half from the Northwest Amateur League because, after England v Holland, Rio can sod off..... we may just start the BALL ROLLING!

Taylor from the Toon would do as a replacement for Lescott. I live in the NE and he’s a valved asset up there....
Fuck Lescott and get rid if he doesn’t want to play for us.

This website seems pretty sure one will be Steven Taylor for 3mill.
Great deal if we can get it - but expect Man City to come in and grab him out of spite !
Duff seems to be going to Fulham - perhaps Em has finished his European Tour and decided to come to us.
By the way, does anyone think Lescott’s knees would have held up in a medical for a 20 million pound player? Exactly - would have been the biggest anti climax ever - hes better staying with us.

Senderos, always going to be after the opening match, just in case he played and plays a blinder and scores a hat-trick from corners, and Elm.

Sorry , just heard Arry Wednapp has just outbid us for the 2 lads. Problem was we could only arrange the medicals once Walton Lane Medical Centrere-opens on Monday morning, they were too busy this afternoon.

With another site claiming an exclusive that Taylor will have a medical on Monday I’m inclined to go with that not just because of this claim but more so because we looked set to sign Senderous my guess would be Moyes was alerted to Taylors availability and immediately withdrew his interest. He’s very much in the Moyes mold, he’s versatile and can play in a number of positions at the back. He’s tough and enjoys a challenge and is very much a player who gives everything and would make a great signing.
As to the second I’d lean toward Elm the timing seems about right he’s indicated he’d make his decision this weekend and although he’s spoken with a number of clubs I think he’s been more complimentary to EFC than any other club or perhaps this is wishful thinking on my behalf. Personally I think he’d be a terrific signing for the club not simply because he looks a great prospect but more so because he’s given the decision a lot of thought and which ever club he goes to will know they have a player who genuinely wants to play for the club. Either or both would be great signings for the club. Taylor in particular would more than compensate for the loss of Mc Naughton. It could well be that Moyes has the last laugh on that one.

Steven Taylor for £6 million. I hope this deal is true. What an excellent signing. I have no trouble with this deal at all.
Would love to see Sessegnon arrive with Elm to conclude two weeks of epic transfers. Can’t see us spending that much money though.

The figure for Taylor is said to be £6m which is a fair price for a 23-year-old central defender with solid Premier League experience. He weighs in up front with the odd goal and assist and I’d certainly take him over Senderos.
If we get Taylor and Banegas plus a right back or right winger that would put the smile back on my face again. Roll on the new season!

Elm can get lost. Who does he think he is keeping us waiting around for a month like he’s the pretty girl picking a date for the prom. If he is even considering Herenveen etc over us then it sums up his level of ambition so we’re better off without him.

Ever Bangea as a defensive midfielder is exactly what we need. He could fill the hole in front of our deep defensive midfielders Neville and Rodwell and behind our most advanced defensive midfielder Fellaini.

Frankly, if we can sell Joleon Lescott for the money that’s been bandied around and get Taylor, we’re well in front on all fronts. Glen is right: Taylor is young and is at least ’half decent’ - which, remember, is all Joleon could reasonably be described as when he left Wolves for us. I’ll get shot down for this, but my tuppence worth is that Joleon is seriously overrated - too often I’ve seen him plays well for much of the game and then make the error that costs us the game - and remember, he’s got an iffy knee - yes, its been put back together for the time being by that bloke in Colorado, but it will degenerate.

Tuncay’s gone to some Turkish club.. Bestikas, I think. On loan, anyway.

Glen, he looks like another Fernandes (which is a good thing). A typical Wenger signing. Include Sessegnon and we could have the midfield to break into the top 4.
John Fleck looks a good prospect. His attitude of late has been called into question but I would love to see him paired with Baxter.

Jason, I work every week in Scotland and often go to Rangers games whilst I am there. Rangers rate Fleck very highly and have bought property for his parents to keep him with them, can’t see him going anywhere for a few years yet.

Whatever happened to Obinna? Notexactly prolific but would certainly give our attack some pace, surely he has enough appearances now, yes I do realise he would be gone for AFCON but I’m talking same as last time we were linked loan witha view to buy.

How about David Bentley?.He’s upset Spurs ,has a lot to prove and could do with a change of scene. He seems genuinely repentent and with the world cup coming round I believe David Moyes and Everton could change his fortunes.Bentley on loan could just be a great move for us.

Sorry to piss on anyone’s chips about the Taylor story but why are we signing someone on Monday if we’ve had a bid accepted? If we’ve had a bid accepted why do Newcastle and Everton risk Taylor getting injured for Newcastle on Saturday. Taylor should be withdrawn immediately from Newcastle’s squad and have his medical this morning at Goodison. I assume the whole medical team will be at Goodison today anyway.
I don’t reckon this one’s true unless Taylor doesn’t play for Newcastle this weekend.

48 hours??!! Why does Moyes have to wait until the season starts to sign players? Has he got a screw loose?

Taylor would be great if only for his dead funny party trick of deliberately handling in the area and then going down as if shot by a sniper...... hilarious! Seen him do that at least twice.
