Ever Banega
Comments (27)
The Times is claiming that Moyes is on the verge of closing a 12 month loan agreement with Valencia for 21-year-old Argentinian defensive midfielder Ever Banega.
This guy cost Valencia €13 Million a couple of years ago, has had some off the field problems in Spain and not excelled as well as his early years at Boca suggested he would. Sounds like he needs a fresh start and some good coaching; the archetypal Moyes signing.
He can certainly play, has tremendous skill, knows how to pick out a pass and can turn on a sixpence, but physique is a little slight for a defensive mid. His playing style in fact is reminiscent of the oft-mentioned Moutinho. Check out some clips on YouTube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNqr-cnU27k
Ever's not the right-back or right-winger that we need but from my point of view he has all the credentials to slot into centre midfield as the box-to-box defensive mid that we need, leaving Neville to move to right back. I for one certainly hope this rumour is true.

Ever Banegas will struggle in his first season in the Premier League. He doesn’t have the pace or strength to handle the Premier League. Let’s hope I’m wrong.

In the clips he shows he can tackle, has tremendous skill and seems to not be short on pace. His physique is slight and it does seem he hits the deck a little too easily, but some of the qualities on display make me think that Moyes knows what he’s doing here.

That being said I think most of us would be happy with any signing at this point and he looks the goods.

With regard to Banega, we had a little baldie fella playing defensive midfield the season before last and he did alright. This sounds like a runner and would be a typical Moyes signing with a buying option at the end of twelve months.

By the way, if Moyes is saying Lescott is a £30m player, what price would he put on Mikel?
The Banega story sounds interesting.

We have needed a player who can use the ball in that position for a long time and, as an added bonus, Argentinians are as horrible as Australians - I hope this one is no different.
I hope we get him but if we sign him ’The Everton Way’ then expect Super Phil Neville to be in our defensive holding role at Christmas.
Anyway, I’m off to watch Football Focus. we might get a mention coz we are playing Arsenall.
COYB.

I watch a lot of football and the two most recent signings i got excited over were Arteta and Baines. (I wasn’t excited over Jags.. but boy was i proved wrong there!)
In regards to the Arteta story;
Benficia have just made a custom news page.
A month ago our very own evertonfc.co.uk offered fans the chance to watch a video of Evertons new signing and showed you his shirt at the end of the video...all you had to do was ’’insert name here’’ and email it to your friends.
Benficias site is exactly the same as that.
Follow the link below for proof... this is one i made up for our very own Tony Hibbert.

With him and Arteta in midfield (once gelled) we would have a formidable duo.
With Nev covering rb and £18 plus swp from city it would be a simple case of hang on tight it’s going to be a white nuckle season.

I agree with most comments here....Banega is not a defensive midfielder.....rather a deep lying playmaker if anything. Had a better rep than Gago back in Arg, but has struggled since moving to Europe. Reminds me a little of Manny Fernandes is DM can get him focused. Needs regular football, and could be a good addition...depending on how he settles.....

Anyway, if this rumour is true let’s hope he didn’t witness the thrashing meted out to our defence today and he actually still does wish to sign for us.
25 Posted 16/08/2009 at 01:43:31
This suggests that he’s not on his way to Everton for a medical anytime soon, he will play next week for Valencia in the Europa League and if we do get him before the window shuts he’ll be cup tied in Europe.
