Stuffed by another big four team again. I think it's time to be honest. Champions League? Well, the optimists on this site have been out of order for some time. There has been some crap put forward on this site lately. Apparently negativity is unacceptable and we actually have a decent squad and are the envy of the bottom half of the premier league. Tony Marsh talks shite and his wish that we got thumped by Arsenal was "a betrayal". Tony — you were right, and here's why:

We are paying £3.5million a year to a man who has won nothing and who never will. Last year I made this point and argued that, for that obscene salary, we might actually attract a coach who didn't enter every game with the object of avoiding defeat.

Champions League? Well, we really are having a laugh. David Moyes will keep us in the Premier League and if that is the extent of our ambition then his salary is justified. Unfortunately, his salary is paid, not on his ability as a coach, but on his loyalty to Bill Kenwright. His handling of the Lescott fiasco has been totally inept and I believe that Evertonians have been conned into thinking that there is no alternative to Moyes and Kenwright. We are expected to be grateful for the years of truly appalling football that he has overseen.

I have no doubt that in the next few weeks we will gather some points against weak opposition, and it will be said that Davey has turned it round again. I just ask Evertonians to think back to the FA Cup Final and the abject surrender that Moyes was responsible for. We will never win a trophy while he and Kenwright continue their nauseating double-act with the connivance of many supporters.

Well, it doesn't take an idiot to know that it will be open season on here for everything and everyone at Everton after that utterly atrocious display.

I just ask that you try please to avoid tearing virtual flesh out of each-other in your frustration and anger. The "positivists" have sadly been well and truly shown up for their naive optimism, while even the worst fears of the doom & gloom merchants has been vindicated with interest. Only an idiot would suggest any Evertonian is happy with that result.

A very, very sad day for Everton FC.

We’ve let in 6 at Goodison just twice in the last 75 years. Last time was Boxing Day 1977 when the players maybe still celebrating from the day before crashed 6-2 to Man Utd. The other time was in Sept 58 when we lost 6-1 - to Arsenal.

Well, thank goodness we haven’t sold our soul and tradition to an Arab. Thank goodness we have the stability that a long serving, very richly rewarded manager brings. And Joy To The World that our honest band of brothers have rolled up their workmanlike sleeves and shown grit, determination and erm, well, that’s it really.

Because the truth is that they’re mediocre and will nearly always be shown up by a team that recognises a football from a can of beans.

What a disgrace. We were simply not good enough. We'll be out of this league before Arteta or the Yak come back. Hibber, Osman, to name two a re just not good enough. I dread the match now against Sigma.

I’m not normally one for foul language, but what an absolute fucking outrage, and all on the back of an equally risible summer transfer campaign that saw us sign a grand total of zero new first team players.

The whole fucking club stinks from top to bottom of the fetid stench of satisfaction with being "the best of the rest". Right now I’m furious with those smug tossers that were lambasting the rest of us who were aggrieved at the lack of transfer activity or who dared to complain about the disingenuous shenanigans of BK. Now we can enjoy the fruits of settling for also-rans status and our failure to strengthen.

We got humiliated by Chelsea in the cup and have done nothing to address it so we get humiliated again. We cannot blame that shambles on Lescott.

The entire team has watched as the club has stalled! Even spider-monkey could see that we needed to buy a winger with pace and a right-back but our summer has been about the desperate attempts to convince a player that we aren’t small time.

Now that we are bottom it will be interesting to see how we recover from this!

It will be another poor start to the season. Lessons clearly not learnt from last summer. Asking Kenwright to conduct transfers is like asking Blackadder’s Baldrick to think of a cunning plan.

And well done to all those Evertonians who decided to voice their disapproval by singing "Everton" when the final whistle blew. Baldrick now thinks it was a good result.

17   Posted 15/08/2009 at 19:56:34

Moyes absolutely bottled it today. He didnt know what to do so played the same team as last year when we all know about how bad the right hand side is. Neville at right back and Rodwell in midfield with Gosling on the right.

Worse than that though, the team spirit wasnt there, clearly the Lescott saga has sapped the team spirit. It's no coincidence that we haven't conceeded 6 goals for many a year, but we do now when nobody in the side has any faith/ trust in the so-called leader of the back 4. I'm not blaming Lescott for any of the goals but collectively you can see that nobody trusts him.

Lescott needs to go ASAP, Taylor et al need to be bought in and the team spirit needs to be rebuilt.

Personally, and I know this is a little harsh but I am absolutely furious with Moyes for not having this side ready, signings or not. We should be chomping at the bit to get this season going, but no, in true Everton fashion, nobody looks arsed and we’re bottom of the league.....

A few observations from today;

1. Tim Cahill and Marouanne Feillani cannot play in the same team. Pushing Cahill back into an orthodox midfield role totally takes away anything he can offer. I love Cahill, but apart from his goalscoring, he doesn't offer much. IMO, I would drop Feillani until we learn how to best utilise him.

2. Nothing new here, but the right side of our team is fucking diabolical. People may say this is typical Hibbert/Osman bashing but today I counted at least three shite crosses from good positions by Hibbert. I didnt see Osman.

3. Jo is fucking useless, I thought this last year, I just do not rate the bloke. To me, he offers nothing. Admittedly he was starved of any type of service today but I just dont feel he’s gonna make it.

4. Now I know this is state the obvious time, we are fucking desperate for some pace. Either on the wings or up front.

5. Finally, someone needs to be held to account over the lack of transfer activity. Be it Moyes or Kenwright, we need to know the truth. Call me cynical, but the timing of today's rumours that we are about to sign two players struck me as a bit convenient. Was this rumour leaked to quell any disquiet at today's game?

6. I need to get a life.

How much more humiliation can Evertonians go through before the penny drops? I've never been able to work out whether Moyes is an above-average manager or a really lucky one. At the moment I think neither... he's probably just a good coach.

I don't expect us to beat Arsenal but I'd like to still be able to hope that we might put up a bit of a fight and beat them at their own game (which is playing FOOTball by the way). Even if you take into account all the injuries, that was pathetic today.

People will try and blame this performance on Lescott but to be honest he played no worse than the rest of the back four. Yobo must have been really pissed off for Joleon because he was having one of his usual 1 every 3 matches off days and decided to ball-watch for at least two of the goals. If I was Lescott I'd ask Hughes for a short term loan so he can laugh in Moyesie's face then buy out his Everton contract.

Year after year we go through the motions of pre-season friendlies, scraping 1-1 draws with part time Austrian teams or bottom-of-the-league minnows... only to be told it's the fitness that matters most. What about getting into a winning habit, getting focused on the upcoming season, having a bit of pride in making sure the Club is seen as a winning club?

Yes, it was nice to win against the yanks this year but as usual we played so shite that I doubt if any yanks will be inspired to follow Everton in the future. I don't care what anyone says, the apathy starts from the top; it's happened more often than not in the past few years and it's only when we get tonked for the first 5 matches of the season that they wake up — so whose fault is that?

Let’s get all out because we seriously need a good cry.

My gut feel is this whole crappy Lescott saga has got the lads thinking Lescott rather than TEAM. What is unsettling the most is we got seriously out-ran, out-desire and out played. You can put up with a better team beating you but not one that also plays harder.

Joleon, leave your dirty uniform on the floor, take your shower and then get the fuck out of our town.

27   Posted 15/08/2009 at 20:11:20

We were rubbish, absolutely bloody awful. Arsenal deserved to win, but we made them look like world-beaters, which they are not.

Sell Lescott and use as much of that money as we can to "strengthen" if that's the right word. I also thought Moyes was mistaken in taking off Jo. He should have kept him on when Saha came on and taken off someone else.

That's what pisses me off with Moyes, he is too damn defensive-minded when we play at home. His whole raison detre seems to be to avoid defeat rather than be expansive and attack-minded, but I do acknowledge this obviously has something to do with our lack of money for decent signings. However, when we play at home, you expect your side to have a go at the opposition, not the other way around.

Thankfully for us, Arshavin didn't see that much of the ball, otherwise it could have been even worse. They toyed with us, we were bloody awful, and we need to bring in at least four new signings in the next week or so. Yes, I’ll go for Taylor and a couple from Spain/Portugal and Elm if he has opened his eyes following this crap!!!

The fact is we are a percentages style football side with a percentages style manager. The gulf in quality today was oceanic and you can’t all blame that on the chairman. What the fuck sort of player is Fellaini for god's sake and what his is role? Why has he signed? — as the Russians say, he ain’t meat and he ain’t fish so what the fuck is he?

Christ, people slag Hunt off, but I’d rather have signed him than nobody this pre-season.

Given the fact that the chairman won’t release the coffers / Moyes isn’t prepared to spend, it’s time to start playing the youngsters and drop Osman and Hibbert permanently. Neville should be next on the chopping block.

No doubt Pip will be there with his usual soundbytes like ’that was unacceptable’, ’must win next game’ type pap. The most apt response to this humliation would be silence and then bury Burnley.

As I said on the other thread, you have to question the wisdom of starting with Lescott and he needs to be sold immediately, despite Moyes’s stance. The reality is that money talks now and you can’t fight it.

What a joke that was — just like our transfer business... pathetic. 6-1. No signings, yet still Hibbert, Yobo, Osman etc not good enough against the Arsenals of this world. Mr Kenwright still leaves it too late AGAIN in the transfer market. Unlike Spurs, who got the lad from Sheff Utd, we should have got him flown over and signed up but we leave it too late all the time. One step forward then two steps back not good enuough, Kenwright — we want SUCCESS!!

We’re so fucking incompetent in the transfer market, we have to keep him in the team 'cos we can’t buy anyone else... Money or no money, we just can’t close deals. I’m not blaming Lescott for today, but it doesn’t help the fact that the miserable, greedy prick is still hanging around! Get rid!!

32   Posted 15/08/2009 at 20:20:58

Today’s performance was inexcusable both from the players and Moyes. The Lescott situation has affected the players but clearly we weren’t at all prepared for Arsenal today. Our pre-season is obviously geared for physical fitness only, it's completely useless to tone the technical and mental skills needed for a game of this nature so soon. We will never get ready for the Top 4 clubs or Villa or Spurs or bloody Wigan/Sunderland if we play Rochdale, Bury, Coventry and Blackpool. We need to get the pace required against better quality opposition — Moyes’s fault totally.

I’m sure we’ll bounce back over the next few weeks but the Lescott situation will rot us until one way or the other until midnight Aug 31st.

What is fundamentally clear today is that, if the opponents block our left hand side — Pienaar/Baines — we have no other creative outlet. Hibbert and Osman are useless. Cahill needs to be pushed up a la Australia (which should reduce our problems of conceding free kicks 25 yds out from our goal) and Fellaini needs to develop some form with Rodwell next to him in CM.

Yobo and Lescott are useless together... in fact Yobo is becoming full-time useless; mind you — if you’re playing next to Hibbert, I can see why.

Baines wants to shut up talking about the team matters and concentrate on getting his game back together — it's not been there at all this pre-season except for 10 mins against Malaga.

I still believe we will turn it around but we are not Top 4 material and on today’s showing. Arsenal are still too good for any of us catching them for 4th spot.

By all means I ain’t happy with todays result, and I also aknowlage we need to get rid of the excess shite that plagues the right hand side of our squad. But there still is 3,330 minutes of league football to play this season. And we shouldn’t be pushing the panic alarms just yet. [Sits in the optimist camp, waiting for missiles to be thrown]

On holiday in Las Vegas and I watched this with a few ex-pat Blues in the Coach and Horses pub (recommended). Quite frankly, as poor a defensive display as I have seen in a long long time. If City's intention was to unsettle our defence with their pursuit of Lescott, it certainly worked.

It was embarrassing to watch on TV so God help the poor soul's who actually went. Tony Marsh got the score pretty much right. Unfortunately his desire to see this turn into a protest against Kenwright didn't happen. Lescott needs to publicly state his renewed commitment to Everton or Fuck Off.

Ian Tod
35   Posted 15/08/2009 at 20:42:32

While I’m sure we will bounce back, today's performance was A DISGUSTING LACK OF EFFORT AND ORGANISATION AT THE BACK. This was not Moyes's fault at all — it was our first XI's and they should've been booed off the pitch. We are better than that and those players know it — and I CERTAINLY know it. We will be ridiculed for the next week now and it’s all because of the underperforming TWATS on the pitch today, fine them all their wages until they get it sorted out.

Mike Oates hit the nail on the head. Arsenal play competitive pre-season friendlies against top class opposition, we warm up against Rochdale, Blackpool et al. No disrespect to these teams but it’s hardly surprising that we don’t hit the deck running is it?
Jay Woods
37   Posted 15/08/2009 at 20:53:40

@Ian Tod: This was not Moyes fault? of course it was his bloody fault. He selects the team, he motivates the players (allegedly), and he chooses the fucking awful negative 4-5-1 tactics that 9 times out of 10 come undone against a 4-3-3.

On top of which, he failed to make a single strengthening signing this summer, despite the dogs in the street knowing our right hand side is so bad we may as well be playing with 9 men.

Yet another inexcusably lame start to the season — the worst yet. With the exception of the year AJ signed, slowness in the transfer market has affected the start to just about every recent season. This year is squeezed by the World Cup, so teams with small squads are at a disadvantage from the off. Those with small squads and many games at the start of the season doubly so - Villa, Fulham and Everton.

We have a hard set of fixtures in next few weeks and key injuries to contend with. Alongside all this we need to regroup quickly after the worst home defeat in most Evertonian’s lifetime. It could be the end of September before we have a settled team so we should be worried.

And I agree completely that Lescott saga has to be ended by decisive action — another thing we don’t need.

I seem to recall Everton being thrashed 4-1 on the opening day of the season against Arsenal and they only had 10 men, that same season we finished 4th above the shite.

One terrible game doesn't reflect our ability, it's a marathon not a sprint, there are 37 rounds to go to stage a fight back.

This is just what we needed, a kick up the backside. We will respond in the right way to this defeat as we always do, please stop the knee-jerk reactions, you should all have learnt by now. The same thing happens every season — we always turn it around.

One last comment before the pills kick in and I fall asleep for 12 hours, hoping the result is only a nightmare.

Wenger has just said Everton looked jaded today. Totally correct — we weren’t at the races at all. No snapping, no closing down, no quick movement and passing and — worst of all — day-dreamimg at set pieces. To me its mental tiredness and it came after 10 minutes when the lads realised we couldn't get and keep the ball as we wanted — and they we reverted to hoofball from Hibbert, and Yobo up to non-stick Jo.

Get Arteta, Yakubu and Jags back as soon as possible... in fact go and get Glen Hoddles famous Mystic Meg to get them back asap.

This is part of what Moyes said after the game :

"I'll take responsibility, I need to do better with the players I have," said Moyes.

Does that worry anyone else compared with his reaction after last years debacle which was something along the lines of "it's not the way to do things... we need new signings." This time around it sounds like BSB has told him the wallet is empty folks. Enjoy.

Well the same team, tactics and moans as last season. WE NEED A RIGHT WINGER AND DEFINSIVE MIDFIELDER. Why can't we get these types of players? Who is to blame for the lack of transfer activity? Arsenal had a new centre-back who wasn't tested, he should have had in the first few minutes a welcome to the Premier League; instead he had a training exercise. There is also no Plan B or players from the bench who can alter the game if Plan A is not working. Totally gutted; not what I expected at all. Only thing was I thought Saha looked very good.

Three weeks ago, I wrote a letter that ToffeeWeb renamed "Don't worry, be happy". I was attempting to signpost the positive.

Tonight, I can't see a positive, other than saying I have witnessed another impressive Arsenal display; they do play beautiful football and we should hold our hands up and admire it.

I love Everton, but something is wrong that I can't put my finger on. Tonight was a total disaster and now I am worried. I said 'Carpe Diem' in my original post but now, in a favourite of Karl Marx I am thinking 'de omnibus dubitandum'.

Brilliant! Now, if this is not a wake up call about Osman and Hibbert then I don’t know what is.

We simply MUST sell Lescott and but TWO centre halves, a right back, a right winger, a striker and a central midfielder.

Hopefully with pace.

I hope that this news of two faces in the next 48 hours comes out tomorrow, then fuck Lescott off and get moving before the window closes.

Jay Wood. We did not play 4-5-1, I wish we did.
Just like the Cup Final, it was 4-4-2.

When Fellaini plays the Cahill role, he just stays up with the front man, which leave us with the four in midfield and that leaves Osman isolated.
Get Cahill back in his rightful position and you will see a better Leon Osman. DROP FELLAINI.

I belong to the replace Hibbert and Osman brigade but to single them out in particular tonight is a little out of order. Sure they stank, but tell me who didn’t?

Lescott did ok considering what’s swirling around in his head, Neville tried, Pienaar was man of the match by far but then tell me who else played well?

I’d just like to comment on all these jibes about ’Blind Optimists’ and comments like "Where are all the positive naive idiots"? "All the doom merchants have been proved right with interest".

Can I ask these posters a simple question: What do you think ’blind optimisum' is? Everton to be league champions this season — yes, that is blind optimisum, but Everton to turn this ’one-off’ around and again have a good season and qualify for Europe in the top 6 surely can’t be called blind optimisum as this sort of season result has become fact in recent years with pretty much the same if not weaker side than we have now.
I apologise if you have had people posting on here stating we are going to win the league or finish second... if that is the case then indeed that is blind optimisum asking to be ridiculed.
But am I a blind optimist for believing that we can again finish in the top 6 coupled with perhaps a good cup run and who knows, there may be an outside chance of silverware. If so, pass me the white stick!

This is ONE RESULT! Yes, it's an awful one and players and staff alike deserve some stick for it, but surely the optimists have not all been proved wrong in a single 90 minutes of football on day one? Is that what you are suggesting?

If so, let's just say we’d have won 6-1 today... would we now be looking at certain Champions. Would all us optimists have 100% got one over on the ’doomers’ and proved you to be idiots?

Just asking!

That’s the wonderful thing about optimism, Ian (check the spelling, lar!). It let’s you forget about the disasters... even if they are barely a few hours old, and let’s you instead look forward with undimmed hope of a brighter future. Good luck with that!

For me, this was a horrible result; yes, it’s in the history books now... but it’s fresh history. For me, Everton is about the games of football above all else, and the LAST game is always front and centre... until we play the NEXT game.

I’m convinced now that optimists deflect having to deal with the reality of the last game (if it was too uncomfortable) by parceling it away, pretending somehow it didn’t really happen, and convincing themselves that it has no bearing on the next game.

I’m convinced also that the doom & gloom merchants do the opposite: extrapolate the last result to the entire season still to comer... and then slit their wrists.

The truth, or is it that mysterious thing... "Reality", lies somewhere these two extremes.

I feel like I’ve found a pound and lost a tenner tonight. I’ve been out watching Sparta vs Willem II in the Dutch Premier Division and came home full of optimism for a winning double.

How wrong I was. We were absolutely abject from the moment Denilson’s shot found the top corner of the St End net. Baines in particular had a shocker against Bendtner. Hibbert and Osman didn’t disappoint as they were their usual ineffectual selves. Fellaini looked lazy - whether this is still down to the virus I don’t know but if so why is Rodwell not playing who is a lot fitter? Only Saha and Pienaar come out with any sort of credit for at least trying.

And finally Lescott. I have a funny feeling this might put City off wanting to sign him having seen him and Yobo concede 6. Although he didn’t do much particularly wrong himself, there’s a trust issue which meant our defence weren’t as comfortable with him out. We’d better get his replacements in quick and before Sigma so that we can sell. But don’t be surprised if City turn round and decline to make a third bid.

A truly diabolical result. I thought we had put shameful displays like this behind us. 7-1, 4-0 against West Brom and Villa, 5-1 against Dinamo.... Moyes has certainly chalked up some hideous hidings.

Today there were barely any tackles and, for the first time I have seen, I saw little passion from Cahill and Neville. Another total rarity was seeing Moyes give up at 5-0 and sit down. It was pretty depressing.

For the trip to Man City, Hibbert, Osman, Jo and Lescott need to make way for Rodwell, Gosling, Saha and... anyone instead of Lescott. Even though he was not directly at fault for the goals, he looked out of sorts, seemed very nervous, and I can only guess that other players were affected. Oh, and I would not trust him playing against his prospective future employers.

Total pride, passion and commitment next up against Man City is an absolute must.

Just a few words obo the "mindless fucking idiots" as one poster characterised a number of fellow Evertonians (Michael, I thought you said you don’t tolerate this sort of stuff?).

We were piss poor today. At half time my mind went back to a derby game in the 80s when we were 3:0 down to the red lot at home at half time. We finished up 3:2 losers having regained some pride with a battling 2nd half performance (tho’ L’pool missed some sitters). Not today though, like I said, we were piss poor.

I wouldn’t blame it all on the manager though. Terrible, terrible defending for the 2nd and 3rd goals (didn’t see 5 and 6). Short of DM standing in the goal mouth with a megaphone screaming "Wake up you dolts" I’m not sure what else he could do? This is not what we are used to from these players. We’re probably paying the back four in excess of £100,000 a week in wages, and yet they gave Howard scant protection today.

It also has to be said that they Arsenal some talent on show, the 1st and 4th goals exhibiting what they are capable of (shades of their late equaliser last season in their 4th). They are also a team whose manager could afford to shrug insouciantly after selling two players to Citeh for £40 million. So, in that respect, as in the result today, sadly, they’re a bit out of our league!

Oh dear. Heads hung down tonight and a lot of understandably angry reactions. We’ve a lot to do to put this behind us. But please don’t let’s be calling each other "mindless fucking idiots".

After being well and truly arse-kicked, there has to be some lesson(s) and/or positive(s). Perhaps some of these?

No-one wants to be shown up like that ever, but if you had to choose just one PL club, on pain of death, for one seasonal massacre at home, I’d bet we’d prefer Arsenal to do it (spits). Imagine the Shite, Man Ure, Chelski, Villa, Shitteh, etc.

Osman AND Hibbert were substituted. Good things start from single instances.

It was the first game, so we can pretend that was a warm-up against a top-flight team, and our season starts next week.

We can only improve. It can’t possibly get worse than that, can it?

There were less obstructed views at Goodison for the last third of the game.

Moyes will have to reconsider his one game plan, won’t he?

Every other team who visits Goodison will now be lulled into a false sense of security, due to our evil plan as initiated today.

Tim Howard got a lot of match practise.

Fellaini didn’t get booked.

No-one can accuse us of negative, defensive play.

DK is the furthest thought from anyone’s mind.

THAT wiped the smile of BK’s face.

We have scored more goals than Villa, Blackburn, Bolton, Wolves, Burnley, and Portsmouth.

Lawro had us down for a win.

Was Osman actually on the pitch today? We looked stale from the off, which is bound to happen if you’ve made no new signings. But worse, there seemed to be a bad smell running through the side due to the Lescott saga. Can’t believe Moyes played him if he had asked not to play because his ’head wasn’t right’.

Moyes’s stance on Lescott has been admirable, but after today’s showing the situation is now irretrievable... the togetherness and team spirit which we depend on is not going to come back until he is gone, sad to say. Just hope he is dropped for Thursday and we can start again.

We don't need any new players as our first team is strong enough. That's what management keep telling us. Last season we finished 5th and reached the FA Cup final and we were great. So we have not moved on and others have. We can still finish 5th.

We don't need to show any ambition anymore — people will accept any old shit we churn out; at least we aren't fighting relegation anymore.

I have been saying for ages now we have no ambition and yet some people accept it. Nil Satis nisi optimum — not at our club.

I’ve just about cooled down after today's result. Firstly, I post an article about style a few weeks back, the thing that really got to me today was our complete lack of passing!! It’s really shocking that a squad full of internationals can’t string more the two passes together?

From what I saw today, at the moment we have only three players who are comfortable with the ball: Pienaar, Rodwell and Baines. Here’s my honest view:

1. Howard: Could have came for the cross for Arsenal's second.
2. Hibbert: Wasted good chances to cross as usual. Plus caught out of position to many times.
3. Baines: Just a bad game but he is an excellent player.
4. Yobo: Had a stinker; must do better or face losing his place when Jags get back.
5. Lescott: Done well; not at fault for any but has to be sold for morale.
6. Osman: Non existent, must be dropped permanently.
7. Pienaar: Played well, no support.
8. Cahill: Not a central midfielder, full stop!
9. Neville: Needs to be put in right back or be dropped.
10. Fellaini: jury really out, €15 mill?
11. Jô: No support, but nowhere near the class of the Yak.
Rodwell: Should've started, ozzes class AND CAN PASS!
Gosling: done well, and
Saha: must start.

Post removed. Don't accuse other Evertonians of not being Blues — that in itself is a banning offence. Do not impose your rules on what other Evertonians can or cannot say (you should know by now, I'm the only one who can do that!!!).

Do not call other Evertonians "whingeing bastard turncoats" — what he fuck is the matter with you? Do not come on this site and claim that people "seem to be have been dying for us to get a hiding". And do not tell other fans how they should react. — The Editor

6-1. Fuck me, who saw that coming? I don’t think even Marshy did.

A loss is a loss and I can accept that but 6-1 shows things are not right within the club. Moyes now holds the records:

- Biggest ever defeat
- Biggest home defeat since 1958
- Lowest ever league goals scored in a season.

Clap clap, Moyes. Well done for sending out a woefully underprepared team. While Arsenal have been playing top European teams this summer, we’ve been losing to the likes of Bury and Blackpool. Perhaps last season’s slow start was down to the fact Moyes can’t prepare a team through pre-season. We didn’t look fit enough or sharp enough. Perhaps that’s why it takes 6 weeks for us to get going every fucking season.

As much blame as Kenwright gets for the shambles that is Everton FC, that was Moyes’s team yesterday and they weren’t prepared. For me, Moyes is on trial again now.
Anthony Lamb

It comes as no suprise that it didn’t take long for all the Kenwright haters and David Moyes doubters to surface and take the opportunity to stick the knife in. I am sure they were out in equal force following last season's opener against Blackburn and subsequent dismal start to the season. Their ranting however, subsided as the season progressed and 5th place and an FA Cup Final appearance followed.

I too am frustrated with the lack of transfer activity, the persistence with Hibbert and Osman; I too am at a loss to explain the inept performance and complete lack of spririt and fight displayed by the team yesterday. The Lescott saga no doubt has had some effect and with that in mind, if City come knocking again with a £20m+ bid then, despite DM’s stance, the club need to bite their hand off.

I am yet to understand how it was possible to turn down an £8m+ bid for Saha and then leave him on the bench! The club's transfer policy baffles me... 3 months of complete inactivity followed by panic buys at the end of the window (eg Fellaini) occurs every year, leading to slow starts as players bed in, and strong finishes. If we had managed even a mediocre start last season, a top four place would have been achieved.

Moyes on trial, however; get a grip... Villa spent millions and lost at home to Wigan. As it stands, we are yet to see what Harry’s millions will buy... £220m bought a scratchy win at Blackburn and the Kings Road charlies only scraped past Hull!

So, whilst a humiliating display and result it was, get off his back, get off Kenwrights back... and at least wait for a handful of games before deciding that a man who has truly worked wonders given his budget and working conditions is worthy of the sack!!

I for one would much rather wear the Blue of Everton under Moyes and Kenwright than any Arab-funded team populated by money-grabbing mercenaries... Mr Lescott, if you don’t agree then bugger off and bugger off quickly!

Lamb, you get a fucking grip lad. That was appalling yesterday. We didn’t just lose, we got fucking thumped. There’s no excuses for that utter shite. Did you go? I imagine you can’t write what you’ve just written if you went and had to sit through it in the flesh.

That was worse than anything I’ve witnessed. Worse than Walker, Kendall Mark III and Smith. I’m struggling to come to terms with it. How anyone can come on here and defend Moyes is beyond me.

6-1 at home cannot be passed off as a one-off. It represents a totally fucked up squad. This isn’t me sticking the knife in, it’s me realising there are real serious fucking problems within Everton FC from the board down. Keep going with your blind faith towards Moyes but we’re heading backwards right now.

You think you’ve got problems!

I was in Oslo on Wednesday watching Scotland get thrashed and throwing in the towel - with a useless manager who is tactically naieve but I thought ’THINGS CAN’T GET ANY WORSE’

But how wrong was I?

My season ticket at Park End doesn’t work (again), no time for a drink before the game so cold stone sober and then that rubbish -

Gutless and clueless - our right hand side is pathetic with Hibbert and Osman playing the same as they have done for the past few seasons - Cahill running around doing sod all, the defence making school boy errors

and a scouting system which identifies the right sort of player FOR OTHER CLUBS - when we spot someone why do we have to fanny about for so long offering daft deals and then watch teams like Villa and Spurs nip in and pinch them?

We’ve waited 10 weeks for the season to start and at the moment it feels like it is already over - and I can’t even begin to think about next Thursday

and remember, last Wednesday I thought things couldn’t get any worse - imaging where we might be next week!

Thank you Bill K, thank you Dave M

How anyone can come on here and defend Moyes??????!!!!

So were you on his back following the beating of Liverpool last season? Were you on his back when we finished fifth? Were you wanting him out as we walked out at Wembley?

Don’t get me wrong there are indeed some serious issues at the club and I am not saying all is rosy and well... Yesterday was as bad as I can remember. I haven’t seen Everton concede 6 at home in my lifetime so I am very much aware that all is far from well at our club.

There are no excuses, you are indeed right; however, one abject performance — no matter how utterly dire — doesn’t make faith in Moyes ’blind’.

All the good work over the last few seasons - Fucked up.

Hoofball, panicky defending and an inability to pass the ball to a teammate. Why can Arsenal pass a ball foward and retain possession when we can't? The only player that took more than 3 touches at a time and still kept the ball was Pienaar; in the absense of Arteta (and after watching the Confederations Cup). WHY is he not playing in the Middle?

Oh my god, what a performance.... We looked like a team that were nowhere near ready for the start of the season. Playing teams like Bury, Coventry and Blackpool pre-season are simply not good enough. River Plate and the MLS All-Stars were nothing more than exhibition matches. Why are we not setting our sights higher?

We struggled pre-season against mediocre opposition and we look like a team miles behind the rest at the start of this season.

Our transfer policy (do we have one?) is a joke with no players in before the season kick off. If the Lescott saga is affecting our squad I think we should ask silly money and cash him in. We had a poor start last season, why have we not learnt?

82   Posted 16/08/2009 at 13:54:55

I’ve had to wait until now to compose myself. Angry isn’t a strong enough word to describe my feelings about yesterday. Sadly, until things are addressed that may well be my last venture to Goodison. A wasted season ticket, definitely. But i can’t go and cheer on a team that served up the shite i witnessed yesterday. That was possibly the most shameful display I’ve witnessed in the past 20 plus years of watching Everton. And that is saying something.

It’s one thing to be outclassed or out passed. But when there isn’t even the heart or desire to put a foot in or close down, then there can be no excuses. We were made to look like a team of mugs yesterday. Just as well we didn’t make the Champions League as an exceptional team such as Barca would rip us a new one.

I’m just sick of it all. Honestly. And you know what, i have every right to be. If some Blues want to feel galvanized when we scrape a draw against a Top 4 team, fair enough. But for me, we need to be aiming higher otherwise all we’ll ever be is a nearly team. We nearly won a Cup. Nearly broke into the Top 4. Nearly signed someone of genuine quality. Is that enough for you?

I know it’s largely all about money and sadly we have none. ( none that will be spent on improving the TEAM ) But judging by the response SOME Blues have when anyone dares complain, you would assume mediocre is what they have settled for. We are EVERTON for Christ sake, not Blackburn or Hull. If we expect mediocre, you can bet your left bollock muppets like Kenwright will do the bare fuckin minimum.

I stayed until the end yesterday, never booed Lescott and cheered when Saha found the net. But i felt sick to my stomach. Still do. We’ve done well these past few years, yet each time we should be taking advantage of our improvement, we stand still. Why hasn’t ANYTHING been done about the right side of our team??? Why are we still playing players out of position? Money? Yes, that is partly the problem. You know what the other part is? Because fans like us, despite our moaning and bitching will always get behind the club and hope for the best. Kenwright KNOWS this. Moyes KNOWS this. Say what you want about the redshite, but if they had been done 6-1 at home after a summer like we have had, then things would change.

Will anything at Everton?

I am probably the only person here that will defend BK, it’s not easy owning a club. Moyes should hold a lot blame, he states ’he is in full charge of transfers’. Yet, he never learns, he dithers, he doesn’t execute (eg. Naughton to Spurs).

Everyone knows where the squad needs to be strenghened but Moyes simply thinks he can get away with it for one more season. He has the funds but makes panic buys eg Fellaini last season. Transfers need to be taken out of his hands, if there was one club that needs a ’director of football’ it’s us.

Let Moyes coach and give the responsibility to bring in new faces to someone else, maybe Dennis Wise would be a good candidate?

Neil Howard
84   Posted 16/08/2009 at 16:59:54

Prior to yesterday’s humilliation, I was totally behind David Moyes’s stance in relation to not selling Joleon Lescott, nor any other players for that matter. In the cold light of day I am still supportive of the principle behind his position but I find myself wavering. "Why, oh enlightened one?" I hear you all ask.

Well, it’s like this. Joleon Lescott clearly isn’t with us anymore. A blind man on a galloping horse could see that. So each time he trots out for us in future the defensive unit, in deed the whole team, are fundamentally weakened and disadvantaged.

So, unless JL has a moment of biblical vision before 8:00 pm Thursday, perhaps Mr Moyes needs to ditch his sound principles in favour of a heavy dose of reality and sell him. Yes, David, I know it stinks having to bend to the pressures of the unscrupulous Sparky but it might be the only reasonable option left.

Even if we cannot secure a replacement for JL in what remains of the transfer window, whoever plays in his vacated position from amongst the current squad will want to be there and by default will have the confidence of those around him... and us in the stands.

I have been regularly going to Goodison since the heady days of Gordon Lee but I have never felt the need to get involved in any discussion forum either through radio or newspaper until now.

Do me a favour and grow up, we are not a big four team; we do not have the financial clout and (other than on Merseyside) the support to progress much further.

Maybe we should fuck Moysey off and get Sir Alex to leave Utd and come to us and steer us to untold glory. Get real, last season we hit our peak and this season was always going to be anticlimatic.

I love Everton more than I should but I am also realistic and accept that some fucker has to finish fifth and some fucker has to be the losers in the Cup Final and, unless you took to supporting this club in the 80s or after the 95 final, I think we could all see this as an improvement on the decades of dross we have been served up with.

It was an agonising game to listen to on the radio. I just don’t understand how 12 months on from a poor pre-season with no recruitment, it’s happening again. How come other Prem clubs and even Notts County can attract substantial foreign investment?!? I find it particularly depressing how we always fail to wrap up signings, Naughton and Elms being the protracted transfers we failed to get. I’m glad we have Europa games and Burnley to get over this drubbing.

87   Posted 17/08/2009 at 21:58:23

Why did David Moyes sign a 5-year contract with no transfer money to spend? Is it because he earns £50k a week and his Kenwright's mate?

Fellaini is a €15 million joke who disrupts the whole team; Cahill should play behind a foward not in a middle four because Fellaini can’t tackle so is pushed up front. That leaves Saha on the bench. Moyes tries to justify his buy instead of admitting defeat.

If I was Lescott, I would want leave because we show no ambition to strength the team we won’t pay the wages and haggles over the asking price for every player. Moyes is typical jock tight ass who thinks it is his own money. Every year he sells more than he brings in, the squad is the smallest in the Prem.
