Let's All Cheer The Judas?

Comments (25)

Ok, so the result was mind-boggling enough today, but what baffled me even further was why on earth were people cheering Lescott every time he touched the ball. I can understand why people wouldn't boo him, that wouldn't do us any favours, but to cheer and give the best of our support to the one man in the team that deserves it least is beyond me.

Sure, the other 10 players didn't do much to deserve a cheer today, but surely they are the ones we should get behind. I think Lescott has severely unsettled the team dynamics and, as much as I loved him as a player, I now think he has to move on. Our team, more than any other in the Prem, is based around a very strong team spirit and I think Lescott is currently our chink in that armour.

I say ship him out asap, let's draw a line under it and start moving forward. On a lighter note, its only Day One after all and as much as it hurts tonight, we'll be fine in the long run. COYB

Ian, why do you say we will be fine in the long run? Is it because Moyes normally gets the best out of the players and we normally finish top 6?

If that’s the case, we need to get it out our system. You are only as good as your last game, and we were abysmal. Newcastle probably thought they had too many good players to go down, even Leeds thought they were too good to get relegated and further back West Ham and Forest. I’m not saying we are going to get relegated, but we can’t move on with that attitude of "we’ll be fine in the long run".

The fans at the Malaga match were also cheering The Judas. At the time, I questioned this as he had enough time to let us the fans know his feeling but stayed quiet; a sign he wanted to go. Move forward a week and sections were still cheering. I will always support any player in a blue shirt but my cheers will be sounded when the player does well. IMO, I say sell and hope he misses out on the World Cup.

Ian, the support Lescott got today (I saw some banners on MotD) surely says a lot about what a fool he has been. According to tv he felt he wasn’t in the frame of mind to play today. If that is true, then why on earth was he selected? I really don’t think he can play for Everton again and if he is sold then David Moyes in my view looks like an incompetent imbecile; talking tough with nothing to back it up.

We cheer him because he wears the blue shirt and because there was no evidence that he wasn’t trying. He was just as culpable as every other player tonight — no more, no less. Without all the recent shenanigans, we’d have still lost because we were collectively shite.

I hope he felt at least some guilt today.
I refuse to believe we are this bad regardless.

Ray Robinson, not having a go, but yes — cheer because he’s in a blue shirt but why should a player who has expessed his wish to leave get more than the other fellas who are still commited to Goodison.

You might as well cheer him to make him look like a greedy git otherwise if you boo him he’ll use it as an excuse to leave. With that said, did anyone else see Hughsey talking about Man City being a "big club" and implying we’re not after his team's game today.

We are no longer a big club. Wages & expectations have seen to that. We as fans may cling to it but in the real world we are not. If you pay around £45k per week and other teams are paying £80k, what teams will have the best players ? Why should any player be loyal for half the wages? We couldn't even keep Rooney, who was a huge blues fan, but we expect Lescott to stay while the board fail to match their ambitions. My resolution is to cheer Everton and not any individual anymore as invariably they let me down.

I’m sorry but I for one don’t regard Lescott as a Judas and anyone saying he is is wide of the mark. He is not an Everton fan like we are — he is a professional footballer. We would play for Everton for nothing — he is looking after his own interests in what is a short career. He is probably not the only one in the dressing room who is completely cheesed off with the lack of ambition we have shown not just this summer but last summer.

The way City are going they will probably be in the Champions League next season. Who can honestly say we will be, if we're signing the likes of Senderos?

Lescott is a good, honest professional, and I am sure he will always give 100% whenever he pulls on that blue shirt but, with the lack of ambition we have shown in the last couple of years after good league campaigns, don’t be surprised if others follow him in wanting to leave when ambitious clubs come in.

If anything, him leaving would be a wake-up call to the likes of Bill Kenwright — if we don’t get investment, if we don’t buy players when we are in a position of strength (i.e. after finishing 5th in the league) we will lose our best players! It’s plain and simple!

I kind of agree with Danny; however, the whole "Lescott" situation is bad for the team. It’s quite clear he doesn’t want to play for us anymore, something which he has came out and stated, so the best thing Moyes can do is to sell him, and until Man City reach a price we can accept, I would leave Lescott out.

As someone else said also, today wasn’t about Lescott, we were collectively awful as a team. Bill Kenwright in a league of Premier League chairmen / owners would surely rank firmly bottom, the man hasn’t got a pot to piss in, in terms of running a football club.

Kenwright is simply holding on to Everton FC because he calls himself a "fan", he clearly hasn’t got the money to take us to the next level (that has been evident for many years now). He prides himself on being a "true blue" and an Everton fan — why can’t he be that away from the club? The best thing he can do is to sell up.

The only way we can raise funds is by selling our best players, that’s how bleak the situation is.

Joe Royle on his ESPN debut said it as it was. Joloeon Lescott’s body language and general demeanour spoke volumes of his feelings. In fairness to him, as a professional footballer, he did ok. But there was none of his usual enthusiasm and his facial expressions were those of an MP feeling as though his duck house claim was reasonable and fair. In the fullness of time he will have to acknowledge his dereliction in this respect, on this occasion. He must go! And the sooner the better.

As an accountant by profession, I can assure you, with the utmost certainity, Joleon: Money will not make you happy. You will learn this in the fullness of time. And glory? You can never achieve glory after abandoning personal integrity. Your obsession with yourself has affected all of us. Today was the result of it.

Join Jordan, Paris Hilton and all those other meaningless people in your own New World of completely useless bolloxeses. Take your money and reflect — if you can — on your despicable abondonment of one of the last remaiing vestiges of honour in a dishonurable world — Everton Football Club!

I cheered him Ian, why? To cancel out the booing morons — that's why. Going to the game, I had no intention of cheering him, I intended to remain silent. When several thousand complete and utter morons are booing a player you are relying on, though, who the manager has selected.... then something has to be done. I am honest, 100% honest.

Basically, if I were Joleon, I’d be feeling just like him. We finished 5th and got to the Cup Final and we have signed absolutely nobody. Who in their right mind can blame him?

It’s not just about money at all. City have infinitely more chance of winning something than us... and, in the next few years, WILL. The lad isn't an Evertonian, he’s a pro. He is doing what is best for him and fair play to him for it.

Well done to all those that cheered the player responsible for seriously damaging our team spirit.

Moyes is culpable for playing him, but then again there is only Jack Rodwell who could fill in. Whilst Moyes may be right in saying that, as a professional, JL should accept he is not leaving and get on with it. But maybe he has not realised the effect of having a player that doesn’t want to be there, in a group where team spirit has helped us punch above or weight time and time again. The players in the team and backroom staff, who feel nothing but pride to be involved with Everton, will no doubt but quite upset with his antics.

Well done JL, I hope you are proud to see the actions of your greed.

I’m having an identity crisis this morning. I thought I was an Evertonian amongst a band of brothers. I’ve always felt part of the same thing going to Goodison and that my blood runs blue like any other Everton fan.

Sat in the Park End I didn’t feel any part of that yesterday: the team nor the fans.

The team was not mine for capitulating in that style led by an inept stubborn manager who arranged pre-season friendlies against his ’mates’ at lower division clubs leaving us woefully underprepared for the season.

The fans. I’d never advocate booing a player in a blue shirt (although I come close to it with Osman) but neither should Gladwys Street be singing the Judas twat’s name. I was appalled to see Evertonians in front of me offering to meet each other outside for a fight because one’s booing Lescott and the other’s chanting his name. The in-fighting between the fans is what appalled me the most.

I’m not part of any of this. I feel a fairly lonely fan. I thought we were a club that behaved with "class and dignity", who the "last of the Corinthians" played for. I thought I was "born, not manufactured".

This is absolute shite. The club stinks right now from the board right down to a large proportion of the fans.

Alan, I totally agree with you the current situation is completely depressing and I see know solution until Lescott is sold so we all can move on, sad but true.

Judas??? How is he a Judas?

He hasnt betrayed us. He has never said he wanted to play for us for the rest of his career.

The guy asked not to be played and Moyes played him. Even though he wasn't on fire he was still the best defender out there.

He is now being used by our real Judas BK, who is going to get as much as he can. Can't blame him for that, however, I can blame him for selling us all down the river with his lies and betrayals about the club.

Man City can now come back with their £18m and say final offer. We have allowed this to happen by the way we have dealt with it.

Trevor, he did say last year he wanted to play for us for the next 4 years by signing a new contract. The guy asked not to be played yesterday even though he’s contracted to play for us.

He has asked for a transfer to one of our main rivals. If that’s not Judasesque behaviour, I don’t know what is. Unless you’re taking the piss in which case I apologise.

I totally agree with the writer of this article and Alan Clarke. We should sell the piece of shit immediately. And as far as I am concerned those who had the gall to chear this cunt should be ashamed of themselves.

Remember how long the medical took when we signed Lescott due to his knees?

The same will happen when we finally sell to City, which will push us closer to the transer deadline, which means clubs will know we are desparate and just name their price. Year after year the same.

Having watched Lescott run out from the tunnel and NOT acknowledge the fans... then, after the handshake with Arsenal, just walk slowly head down to take up position, again not acknowledging the fans — I am reluctantly saying it is time for him to leave. He does not want to be at Goodison and — even though the other players tried to re assure him at the start of the game — I felt his situation had a direct impact on how our defence played.

The fans cheering his every touch, while understanderable, was frankly pathetic as it smacked of desperation; we should not have to put up with players who do not want to play for us.

I have always been a huge fan of Lescott, but I feel we should get as much as possible for him, re-invest it, and get on with our life as Evertonians.

Wow, the league is full of Judas’s then if by leaving your club whilst still in contract is one of them...

Main Rivals? Most fans think City are shit and not going to do anything this season. We aren't even in their league mate. Our rivals are the likes of Fulham, Wigan and West Ham.

You’re right Ciaran, that annoyed me more than anything on Saturday. The league is full of Judases, Trevor, hence why so many players get so much stick. Fucking hell, you’re clueless.
