How to Move On...
Comments (19)
To be honest, I am one of the always positive and optimistic people on this site. However, today was an absolute disgrace. Everything that Everton and Moyes stand for and are associated with, went right out the window today. No fight, no spirit, no will to win. Heads collapsed and hardly anyone seemed interested.
Now we can either sulk about the performance and result, or we can work out how to change it. Drastic times means drastic measures and wholesale changes are needed.
1. The formation is so defensive and getting out dated. We were at home on the first game of the season, and we do have decent enough players to give any team a go on our day. Change from 4-5-1 to 4-4-2 and let's have a go at teams.
2. Jo is awful as a lone striker. He does have some attributes, but not as a lone striker. Saha looks promising so far if we can keep him fit. Jo and Saha upfront together.
3. Cahill is being under-used in the centre of midfield. Play him in the middle but with a licence to attack. This means dropping Fellaini.
4. Rodwell looks good enough to start. Let him back Cahill up. Rodwell is a better passer than Neville and therefore Neville can be used at right-back.
5. Osman is way out of his depth against a top 4 side. Clearly lacks pace as showed on Saturday. Gosling has pace and wants to attack and get forward and has enthusiasm and ambition. Gosling in instead of Osman.
6. Lescott needs to go. If that is the effect Lescott has on the team, sell him now. I was in agreement with Moyes... until Saturday. Lescott didn't do anything individually wrong but the whole team looked disinterested, and I can only put this down to the Lescott saga. Sell him now and buy a quality replacement. Richards, Turner, Cahill, anyone else please.
Therefore:
Howard;
Neville, Yobo, AN Other, Baines;
Gosling, Rodwell, Cahill, Pienaar;
Jo, Saha.

What I will comment on though is the persistent shite us fans have to put up with from the same group of players, et al, Neville, Yobo, Hibbert, Osman.
These four players are simply not good enough to play in the Premier League in this day and age, the game is too fast now, Neville has now attributes whatsoever (it’s degrading to the club that he is actually our captain): Osman (as seen today) is just far too one-dimensional and lightweight; Yobo, well the less said the better, and Hibbert, the man hasn’t scored a goal in 8 years, every time he plays he gets his arse torn apart and makes an average winger look like a world-class player.
They simply have to be fucked off, I’m sick of seeing the same players week-in, week-out, the Lescott situation is a complete and utter joke. Lescott should be fucked off immediately, if City can’t offer the right money then Moyes should leave him on the bench or put him in the reserves, start playing the youngsters weekly now like Gosling / Rodwell instead of every so often.
I’m also quite baffled as to why there are Everton fans who cheer Lescott and clap his every touch (Malaga game in particular) what has Lescott done in the past few weeks to deserve a clap and a cheer at every touch? Has he done more than anyone else? Has he committed his future to the club? NO, has he fuck.
Instead he’s made it crystal he doesn’t want to play for us, and yet we have fans who are kissing his arse. FUCK HIM OFF, if he want’s to go, let him, see if the grass is greener at the revolving door at Eastlands.
And to be quite frank, I actually don’t fucking blame Moyes if he also wanted to pack in at Goodison, I can’t think of anything more frustrating than to have Bullshit Bill as a financier, the man doesn’t belong in football, he’s only keeping hold of Everton because he claims he’s a fan....if he’s such a fan, let go of the club and hand it over to someone who can actually buy us a half-decent player.

Moreover, our supposed recent target (to replace Lescott?), Michael Turner, had a blinder against Drogba and Anelka, as another previously reported target, Stephen Hunt, down the left. The enthusiasm of those two was something we sorely missed, that’s for sure.

Sarcasm to one side, Moyes said that the side wasn’t prepared — well whose fault was that? And I don’t buy this crap about Lescott’s situation undermining the spirit at the club. They’re professionals FFS. Not a schoolboy team (though after yesterday’s performance...)
It seems pretty clear Lescott will go. But I don’t believe for one minute Moyes will see much, if any, of the money. That conniving twat has to show we’ve got the money for DK ringfenced. Hence why transfer money has been disappearing.
Tim’s nearly 30... Time to cash in Bill?

And.....
A: Hibbert, Osman, Neville, are subs at best. I consider Baxter better than them!
B: Give the Captaincy to Cahill or Arteta!
C: Buy a right back and bloody winger!!!
HOWARD
(someone else) - LESCOTT - YOBO - BAINES
(new winger) - FELLAINI - PIENAAR
CAHILL (where he only should be)
SAHA - JO

Gosling at RB, Pip in the back 4 talking to yobo ala Jags, Lescott, take the money.
When Sidwell was the flavour of the month before CFC bribed him lots of Reading supporters told me that Hunt was the man that allowed him to look good. What a waste.
If Moyes won’t can’t speak out to end this silliness than get in Coppell, then again why would he bother.
7 Posted 16/08/2009 at 07:18:46
I still think Lescott will stay. Keeping him may be a gamble, but selling him is a bigger gamble right now, and would seriously damage Moyes’s credibility and self-belief.
Hopefully we’ll see a couple of new faces, but the main thing that needs to change is the mentality that led to all the mistakes we saw yesterday. With more commitment in tackling and closing players down, and better quality defending, there’s no reason why we can’t replicate the form that we showed last season. And the good news is that if there’s one man who can turn this round, as he did so brilliantly last season, it’s David Moyes.

On the one hand Hansen sits there and says it's admirable what Moyes has done, then he suggests that he should abandon it now and sell him anyway. What the fuck would that achieve???
There is absolutely no point in us having the money as we have no idea how to spend that kind of money. I say put him in the reserves until he gets his head straight but don’t give in to City.
Can’t wait for 1 September, I’m not even actually that pissed off about the result, just this appaling summer of transfers!

The fact is no professional team should lose 6-1 at home. Look at Hull, surely a wrose team than us, they were unlucky not to get a draw away at Chelsea. Any lack of ability when we play the top sides should be made up for with some good old fashioned grit and determination, of which we had none.
I’m glad we’ve got the European game because Arsenal and Sigma will have acted like 2 pre-season games for us. We didn’t look anywhere near upto match fitness yesterday. Perhaps Moyes realises we’ve such a small squad he doesn’t want to risk injuries in pre-season so he just doesn’t bother pushing the players too hard.
We need fitness and match practice, more than what Moyes has given them so far.

Rodwell is not ready to be the main centre midfielder. Cahill is ineffective in a 4-4-2; Gosling will never be a top-class right midfielder. One vital goal against the RS should not hide his limitations.
As for Baxter being better than Neville in mdifield for one he is a diffent type of midfielder and two, he isn't better. Neville is the best captain at the club, that's clear for all to see, it wasn't that long ago fans wanted Lescott as captain. While he is in the team, Neville is the leader; if out of it, a returning Jagielka is the obvious choice.
4-5-1 works with the right players in the team; to me, it's Cahill or Fellaini — not both. And that is where we have let ourselves down this summer by once again not making the signings we needed. A big centre-midfielder to dominate the midfield and a fast winger. Not a 'work hard and track back' midfielder but someone with electric pace.
Yesterday, Jo broke down the left and was on his own for ages as our players trundled up — compare that to Arsenal who broke at pace and at will.

Let's just hope that Thursday sees a different team. Until then, I think I’m going to lock myself away.
Gutted.

Why were we not competitive? We were nothing. A shambles. I’m a massive Moyes fan, but I’m not a muppett... I won’t just blindly support anyone who sends my team out looking like that.
13 Posted 16/08/2009 at 11:54:54
Hoofball, schoolboy defending, poor team selection and substitutions all down to the manager. On their jollies in America and Mexico and pre- season friendlies did Moyes and his coaching staff actually practise any set-play defending?
I don't like Kenwright and his running down of this club but give him a break ,he can't be held responsible for yesterday's disgraceful exhibition. We have a tactically naive, stubborn, arrogant manager, and he alone was to blame yesterday.
14 Posted 16/08/2009 at 12:52:49
Fellaini covers a lot of ground and closes people down and plays short simple passes. Cahill makes a nuisance of himself and arrives late in the box, often scoring crucial goals.
So in the first half yesterday we had Cahill and Neville and Arsenal had Fabregas, Song and Denilson all in the middle. The 3 lads from Arsenal were everywhere and we couldn’t cope with the movement. They had a man over and we couldn’t get near them.
We played high balls up to Jo and Felli hoping to win second balls, but nothing stuck. Arsenal passed and moved, took their time when they had the ball at their feet, had a look up and found a teammate. There players interchanged positions and our lads just didn’t know who to follow. When we have the ball we still play it long. Pienaar is the only one who gets on the ball and runs at people and expresses himself.
I understand when DM took over we were at rock bottom. We battled away and he made us difficult to beat. It wasn’t pretty but it was effective. He has gradually overhauled the squad and I feel it’s our best for a long time. However, the football hasn’t improved in line with the players we have at our disposal. We’re no longer battling relegation, so why do we still adopt such a negative approach and play long balls. Is Moyes not capable of adapting? Wigan yesterday battered Villa away but played football, passed it created chances, and were good to watch. I know it was only one game but that’s the way Martinez set his team up and he got a result. Zola at West Ham come in last season and did the same. These teams won’t win every week, neither will we, but at least they will play good football. I’m not saying I want us to do a West Brom and play well and lose every week, but I think you can play football in our division and still do well.
Baines and Pienaar linked up really well last season down the left and were great to watch. Arteta, from the middle, was excellent getting on the ball and keeping it moving. These players aside we lack people who want to get on the ball and not panic and just lump it. It seems to be ingrained in their mentality. At times we can play decent stuff but why not every week. We’re not regarded as a footballing side, can we change that? I don’t know about everybody else, but that’s what I want to pay to see. Exciting football that gets you off your feet. It’s like a morgue half the time at GP and I’m sick of listening to away fans saying SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHH.
Playing better footbal would help get bums on seats, sell shirts etc and fill a new stadium when we eventually get one!
Anyway for that to happen we need a couple of new faces. When the ball gets played out to our right hand side it’s like being in a nightclub and the music goes off and the lights come on. Shocking. We all know it, ok he went for Naughton so hopefully he sees it to and does something about it because watchin Hibbo is worse than a triple root canal. Ossie scored important goals last year and isn’t a right mid so he should only be a squad player. The lesson should have been learned in the cup final.
DM needs to be less cautious.
I don’t expect this to happen, but it’s not a bad idea. Footballs all about opinions and people will disagree with me, but am I wrong for wanting to watch good football for my money?

I’m dreading Thursday's game. Moyes will be ultra defensive to avoid the away goal.
My team would be:
Howard
Neville Yobo Rodwell Baines
Cahill Fellaini Gosling Osman
Saha Vaughan
Get rid of Lescott. He wants to go. He isn't worth what's on offer and he is only being refused a transfer out of spite as far as I can see. Moyes can be intransigent. Look at the way he treated a fit Van der Meyde at the end of last season. He won that Liverpool game with that cross. He was then not even on the bench for the nesxt match — disgraceful.
I would also sell Pienaar. I've never seen such an over-rated player at the club. Scored one goal last season and runs round in circles and loses the ball.

But that is what Moyes is all about.

WHY do we never have any pace and WHY are Osman, Hibbert still here? I don’t actually think any Premier League team would have them, maybe Hull.
Pissed off isn’t the word. I wnat a new chairman and manager. Moyes will never go for it to win, 8 years and still 4-5-1. Maybe I’m over-reacting... Moyes has built us steady, but wouldn’t it be nice to have a midfield like we saw today? Sadly it wasn’t Everton's.
