No, not the classic Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte buddy movie.... the time that has now elapsed since David's ill-advised sound-bite about the immediacy of our necessary new signings.

Bill Kenwright has yet to commit one of his classic utterances this summer but it seems that David may actually be doing his job for him. Do these people not realise the emotive consequences of their misfortunate PR? Do they even care? Or maybe it's just the ramblings of the demented.

Now, I know it was unlikely to ever happen — and I'm not that naive — but the way the top level of this club constantly stamp all over the expectations of our fans is disgusting. It's even more annoying because this time it's our man of integrity Mr Moyes peddling the bullshit.

Taylor from Newcastle for £8mil, personnel terms agreed. Seems like the end of Lescott and good riddance — we don't need selfish brats at our club. Only those who play with the pride that we supporters deserve.

Good to hear rumours of Fernandes in the media once more — a player that I believe we should have picked up last transfer window. A player who if we had had against Arsenal last weekend, perhaps may have turned the tide moreso in our favour.

I stated last time, if we re-sign him, I'll buy an Everton top with his name on it. I still hold strong to this (not that the purchase of any one kit is persuasion enough for a manager) but I consider him top draw!

C'mon Everton be sensible and grab some class AND a player who is able to set kick and take long range strikes!

COYB!

ps: We need a DM and a damn WINGER! (re-stating from previous messages)

I am as pissed off as the next person on the transfer front but I believe he said that he "hoped" it would be done within the next 48 hours.

I could be wrong but without rewatching the interview I am not a hundred per cent.

The next 2 games are crucial to the moral of the players: against Sigma and Burnley. Okay, the first game was a deja vu of last season except for the scoreline and the quality of opposition.

These are not Gunners quality and surely the Blues will not be so inept. If they also prove to be disappointing results then I believe there is writing on the wall and a major overhaul in some form has to be taken now and not in 3 months.

We obviously have very little money to splash around, hence the lack of quality new faces, but it seems logical to now cash in on Lescott while the offer is still on the table and see who we can tempt to bolster the squad.

It's not rocket science to see what DM and BK trying to do and that is get by with what they have until the injured players come back but that idea coupled with a Lescott whose head is in the clouds is bad for the club.

The Kenwright summer saps all enthusiasm: a climatic phenomenon occurring mainly in northwest England but thought to have its origin in north London. Continues to baffle meteorologists because early summer forecasts for the affected regions are always good. Initial bright outlook gives way to increasingly grey skies and static gloom. Adverse energy-sapping conditions can last several months. See also: the Lescott anticyclone.

"Do these people not realise the emotive consequences of their misfortunate PR?"

Good question Ciaran! Not just emotive consequences... I’m genuinely wondering if I have a case for loss of earnings towards BK... I’m still watching this fucking space!

Peter - what gives you the impression Taylor’s a done deal mate?
Kevin Hudson

Completely agree. Like a soft-arse, I’m constantly flicking to all availiable media outlets, begging for signings to be unveiled. The longer it drags on, the more dissilusioned I become!!

I though Moyes said he was hoping to have some new people in. Not going too. But your right, the spout that comes from everyone of the club is fucking annoying.

Still do you you reckon Philip Carter is still excited or just senile?

Completely unacceptable from Moyes to mention a timeframe when any deal is not close to completion. It falsely lifts the spirits of the supporters.

What also doesn't help is people on this website coming on and saying that certain deals are concluded, or that certain players are having medicals — when they have no back up for what they are saying. It just adds to the confusion.

It’ll be like the film ...... Wasn’t that followed by the sequel ’Another 48 Hours’ ?

Perhaps ’Billy Boy’ could turn it into a stage play before the club turn it into a Soap Opera !

Nick Nolte... I wonder, can he play defensive midfield?
Dave Wilson
14   Posted 18/08/2009 at 14:25:06

Moyes was sitting on Kenwright's knee when he made that statement. And BK definitely had his arm up the back of shirt...

But come on, let's give BK some credit here, did anyone see his lips move?

Mike! completely agree Fernandes would be the best option of all the names flying around! We may have lost to Arsenal but he would have had Fabregas kept quiet for a long time! I think it would be a very good purchase and am dreaming of that one! Although I'm not holding my breath on this one!
Peter Griffin
16   Posted 18/08/2009 at 14:49:54

When you’re trying to sign more than one player it’s difficult as you can only be in one place at a time. As well as taking training, media commitments etc time is easily consumed. Incoming players want to meet their potential new manager face to face, for assurances on their place in the team etc. which often requires a bit of travelling.

No I don’t work for the club. I’m not defending DM, I’ve said on other posts that he should have kept his mouth shut after repeatedly putting his foot in it this summer.

Players will be brought in sooner rather than later, and hopefully by Friday there will be 2 through the door.

It’s all starting to make sense now; Ciarán is Luke’s faaa-ather.

I like the rest of you are addicted to the media sites for any glimmer of "rumour-isms".

I do think though that a solid fundamentally sound game on Thursday will begin the slow heal.

It’s not helping that our targets are leaked to the press, so our rivals with deeper pockets are encouraged to come and outbid us!!!!
Alan Clarke
20   Posted 18/08/2009 at 15:11:55

Perhaps Moyes was lying?

I’d love someone to trawl back through the threads over the summer and pick out all the reason people have come up with as to why we’ve not signed anyone:

- Sky money has to clear
- They’re waiting to announce the Senderos signing next to a ’big one’
- Moyes is waiting to get his number one target then spend the rest on squad players (that was my initial theory)
- We’re waiting until the end of the transfer window to drive the price down
- We’re skint

I think only the last one is true.
Peter Griffin
21   Posted 18/08/2009 at 15:26:05

We’re skint and securing finance currently takes longer than it used to?
Alan Clarke
22   Posted 18/08/2009 at 15:27:53

Peter, can you leak anymore to us?

Also where’s Dodd? If we really were about to sign someone he’d be on here singing about how brilliant Kenwright is for backing his manager again. Because he’s gone so quiet I doubt anyone is coming.
Ciarán McGlone

Peter, when you’re trying to sign more than one player it’s difficult because you cannot be in more than one place at a time..!? You think that DM is nipping up to Newcastle to bid for Taylor, then over to Valencia to bid for Manny Fernandes?? Come on — surely EFC have people for that sort of thing, oh and um er faxes yeah, and telephones!!

That has to be one of THE lamest excuses I have ever heard — worthy of EFC though... you don’t work for the PR side of EFC do you?
Zaid Omar
25   Posted 18/08/2009 at 15:55:58

The Chronicle reports that Liverpool are now considering making a bid for Steven Taylor. You can strike that one off the list.
Peter Griffin
26   Posted 18/08/2009 at 15:49:58

Rupert- I don’t want to burst your bubble but Fernandes won’t be coming, neither will Gago or Guti. Believe it or not but they only sign the contracts at GP when the fee, contract and medical are all sorted, and other talks tend to take place in locations out of the way prior to this.

Faxes etc are used for offers but not for talks. Elstone etc. will talk to their chief execs to establish a fee but the player in question will still meet DM before going ahead with a deal, and not via "um er faxes and telephones".

The whole situation is beyond a joke!!! Anybody else remember this "transfer pledge" from the OS going back to june 22nd??http://www.evertonfc.com/news/archive/blues-transfer-pledge.html?comment_page=9#comment_start.

If that's the case, why has nobody signed???
Matt Brown
28   Posted 18/08/2009 at 16:33:18

Forget about signing Fernandes... I think the same person must be pissing himself by ressurecting the same old rumours every silly season.

It won’t be long before it's Alan Smith, Juan Mountino or Riquelme again!!
Benn Chambers
29   Posted 18/08/2009 at 16:42:33

Peter Griffin, You said yesterday that we should have at least 1 and maybe 2 confirmed by now and mentioned Steven Taylor in coming for talks today at the latest and confirmed Banega has had his medical.

Is any of this actually true? If we don't have the person in by midnight tomorrow then they cannot play in the Europa Cup.

Sorry for being cynical mate but I think I may be getting blagged and even Newcastle are stating there has been no bid and he ain't leaving.

This is not the same Peter Griffin from Family Guy is it?
Peter Griffin
30   Posted 18/08/2009 at 16:47:45

Newcastle rejected an initial bid, we agreed to meet their asking price but a potential buyer is keen to keep him. Taylor wants to join us and terms have been agreed in principle and talks were due to take place today. As I said earlier on this thread, and this relates not only to this deal but another we’re trying to do, that "It’s not helping that our targets are leaked to the press, so our rivals with deeper pockets are encouraged to come and outbid us!!!!"
Ciarán McGlone
31   Posted 18/08/2009 at 16:56:16

Peter,

I'm sure other managers and scouts have heard of Taylor before... he’s not the invisible man.

This ’oh they stole our target’ excuse is one of the most insidious ever!
Gavin Harris
32   Posted 18/08/2009 at 17:04:13

The fact is this: if Villa or Spurs wanted him, they’d get him. All done quickly and quietly with no issues.

We on the other hand take so fucking long, and the transfers are so complicated, we seem to lose out to rivals every time; i.e Owen, Naughton, Delph, Ramsey, etc etc.

It's doing my head in!!!! And there will be no big signings this week, that’s the only fact in this thread.
Alan Clarke
33   Posted 18/08/2009 at 17:05:49

Ciaran’s right, every fucking transfer deal involving pretty much every other club and player is leaked into the press. I’m sure the selling club and agents do it to fetch a higher price. Is David Moyes that clueless to think it will remain secret?

The reason other clubs don’t get gazumped is they can wrap up a deal inside 24 hours before other clubs come sniffing. The fact it takes us all week shows the player is available and gives time for other clubs to come in for them. I wish Everton weren’t so fucking useless.

God, this is so fucking frustrating, I’m turning my computer off until 2nd September.
Rupert Sullivan
34   Posted 18/08/2009 at 17:05:03

Peter, whether the rumours are true or not isn’t really my point, I was referring to what appears to be the unprofessional and long-winded manner in which EFC approach these things. As Ciaran points out — these ’targets’ are not hidden players which only suddenly become available after EFC put in a bid.

The crap from Dominic King this week about EFC losing Naughton and Delph not being their fault — what utter shite. Either the club has the money and pays, or it doesn’t and... er, doesn’t. This isn’t rocket science. If EFC had been trying since June how come they couldn’t deliver — Harry Wide Boy picked up Naughton and Walker in under a week!

Agents will not surprisingly oust these deals in an attempt to deliver a better deal for their players — surely this is not an unknown factor either? Christ — is EFC going take start crying and take its ball home..?

Peter, is there any truth in the Vladmir Bystrov rumour?
Ellen West
36   Posted 18/08/2009 at 17:39:04

I have been trying to contact Everton to find out what is going on with the transfers, but I think everyone has gone home for the night. This could explain why it takes so long to sort out the transfers if the club is only working 9:00-4:30.

Has anybody else managed to speak to anyone at the club?
Steve Edwards
37   Posted 18/08/2009 at 17:37:03

I know things have changed now with agents etc but oh for the days when you would pick up your morning newspaper. There it was all over the back page... Everton had broken the British transfer record once again. No warning, nowt in the papers but Catterick had done it again. When I see now how low we’ve fallen it makes me want to cry.

39   Posted 18/08/2009 at 18:29:19

There are probably quite a few reasons why we are the worst in the world at concluding transfers. We are skint & Moyes dithers being the main two. My biggest concern is this is another area were we don't seem to have a Plan B.

Naughton signed for Spurs a few weeks ago. We need a new right back but we still have not got one. Does this mean Naughton was the only player better than Hibbert in the whole world that we could afford or is Hibbert that good we now don't need to replace him??? Same goes for CM & RW the 2 other positions we are crying out for replacements. Moyes needs to get off his arse and sort out this mess.

Alan Clarke
40   Posted 18/08/2009 at 18:41:34

Andrew you are probably right. Peter Griffin is a cartoon character in the famous and very funny ’Family Guy’. I thought the whole point of registering for this site was to cut out comedy RS contributors? They still seem to slip through.

I doubt there is any truth in what he’s been saying. For there to be all these "medicals" taking place without any sniff of it in the media or on the main football websites means there is most probably nothing going on at all.

I think there should be a rule where if someone’s posting something about being in the know they have to name their source to the editors. The source then remains private but the editors, Michael et al, can at least vouch for some validity behind the story.
Peter Griffin
41   Posted 18/08/2009 at 21:12:02

If you were in charge at Leeds and Sheff Utd and one club says they wlll pay you what you want over a couple years and then another club comes in and says we will give you the cash upfront who would you sell to?

Think what you like about what I have said but what I was told was from somebody who would know.

I was told Banega is signing, and that from what they have seen of him in pre season games he looks class.

I was told we had eventually agreed a fee for Taylor and he was keen to join. I haven’t been told anything about this Bystrov but I was told about a player who plays in the same position we were in talks to sign, so I don’t know.

To suggest I’m a fucking Kopite, ha ha get fucked. I’m the same as everyone else keen for signings and was led to believe the two players mentioned were on the verge of joining, so I’m frustrated as well.

I still think two will be in by Friday as I said today.
John Martin

Of all the posts I have read recently, I hoped Peter's were going to be true. But this is Everton FC. I am starting to believe we won't sign anybody of any significance this transfer window.
Tony Williams
43   Posted 18/08/2009 at 22:03:01

Just re-watched the interview and he clearly says that "hopefully" we would get the faces in within the next 48 hours, obviously his "hope" doesn’t match the chairman's wallet.
Alan Clarke
44   Posted 18/08/2009 at 21:53:32

I’d like to believe you Peter. Perhaps it’s because I’m so desperate for us to sign some decent players especially after Saturday. It’s the other people who’ve made me cynical.

There was a guy called Mark Cassin who posted on here last year who claimed we were signing Moutinho, then he claimed we weren’t... and then he claimed it was back on again. I don’t think he was a complete bullshitter but he was claiming a rumour from a ’good source’ was the gospel truth.

There’s also been Suzy Whitehead with her claims about Lescott definitely going and enquiries about Newcastle and Middlesborough players without naming names. I doubt she’s any further up the chain at Goodison than the tea lady.

Then there’s Richard Dodd and all of his claims from well informed sources. Dave Wilson also put forward his story about signing Barton. Absolutely no-one called the Fellaini signing last year.

I do have a bad feeling about these possible 2 signings because Moyes’s statements today don’t equate to us signing Banega and Taylor. 48 hours have passed and Moyes is saying he’s only going to be signing "one’s for the future". I think we may have been signing these players but something else has gone on. Most likely the deals have fallen through, similarly to Moutinho last year.

Gavin Harris
45   Posted 19/08/2009 at 08:52:54

To be fair to Peter, it seems he was right about Banega. Let's hope he is right about Taylor and the feller gets his permit.
Peter Griffin
46   Posted 19/08/2009 at 09:29:52

Gavin- I was told everything except the paperwork is done for Banega. They’re waiting on a work permit and hopefully it’s granted.

As for Taylor I mentioned yesterday about the new potential owner wanting to keep him. I also said rival clubs were willing to rival us for his signature, but I wasn’t talking about the shite. When we made our first offer no other clubs had bid for him. Once it’s leaked to the press he’s available for 6 million, several clubs made enquiries. He apparently wants to join us but like everything at Newcastle it’s never straightforward.

The other player I mentioned but never named who I said "played in the same position" as Bystrov was indeed Bentley and we have apparently been trying to do a deal for several days. It’s now in the press. I wasn’t told it was a double deal for him and Hutton but hopefully it is as it would finally spell the end for Hibbert!

Alan Clarke
47   Posted 19/08/2009 at 10:38:09

I’ve just put it on the ’transfer marathon’ post but why don’t we give Taylor a deadline? Time is of the essence here and we need players. We can’t afford to miss out on a player or other possible players while he fucks around waiting to see if Shearer might be appointed. Sign by 1pm today Taylor or piss off. I will put my house on Newcastle not being bought before the transfer window shuts. I sympathise with Moyes on this one.

Also Peter, can you shed any light on Senderos? Did we just fail to meet Arsenal’s asking price? Are Arsenal waiting to see if anyone comes in for him first before selling for a lower figure?
Peter Griffin
48   Posted 19/08/2009 at 10:55:07

I haven’t been told anything about Senderos since we started talks. We apparently offered £3M. Hamburg come in after our £3M bid with an offer of £5M! He has 12 months on his deal and is obviously out of favour so I think £3M was a fair offer. I’m sure they will want to get rid before the window closes.

IMO I think DM is currently looking at other targets and Huth at £2.5M is a better deal than Senderos for £5M. Obviously, if JL goes, DM will want two CB’s.

Peter, apologies for my scepticism but I’m sure you understand. I’ve just viewed the Youtube video of Banega and he does look superb.... which makes me feel that the Home Office will probably dash our hopes once again. Damn this ingrained Blue pessimism!
