Recovery Times

Comments (7)

Is it just me, or do our players seem to take 5 times longer than players at other clubs to get over injuries?

Yakubu has been out for almost 12 months, fair enough it's a bad injury as the achillies tendon is a strange thing.

Arteta has been out for 9 months and won't be back until November.. Jagielka is looking similar and Victor is 'recovering slowly'.

Now forgive me but Gerrard gets a bad injury and is back in 6-8 weeks, you see it all the time with other clubs. Are we just unlucky and our injuries are bad or Is there a slow malaise running through every aspect of our club from the boardroom through the the treatment table?

Hey let's hope it doesnt spread to the groundsman, 2 weeks to cut the grass will just give Moyes another excuse to play hoofball!!!

In terms of length of recovery, Arteta is doing very well for such an injury. I had my cruciate done around the same time and don’t expect to be playing again until next March.

My worry is how many of these lengthy injuries we get in the first place. I’m sure some of this comes from over-playing already knackered players. The other reason I suppose is playing against shite teams with yard dogs like Kevin Nolan in their team.

I think it has something to do with Bob Paisley meeting Azazel at the crossroads, selling the clubs soul and hence have speedy recovery times.

What do you think the problem is?

By the way, well done for managing to squeeze in an attack on Moyes in your post.

I’m afraid it’s just you, Ste.

I’ve had 5 ops on one knee & two on the other so I’d like to think i know better than most. These things take an awful long time, no matter the professionalism of those assisting in the recovery.

Also, look at Arsenal — those fans would give their first born to have Rosicky back inside 9 months. Although they seem to be coping alright so far....

It is strange that other players seem to take much less time to comeback from injury, but all four of the injuries suffered to Yak, Vic, Arteta and Jagielka were really bad ones.

The one thing I will never understand is why on earth Everton never sued Newcastle for their player, Kevin Nolan acting outside the culture of the game with that horrific challenge on Anichebe. Anichebe has been out so far for six months and does not look like coming back anytime soon and all Nolan got was a one match ban??!!

It’s scant consolation but look where he is plying his trade now.

Ste Boileau, you have answered your own question, they are horror injuries which will take as long as they have to take before the player is ready to come back. The big BIG question on my mind is whether or not The Yak and Arteta will be the same players mentality as they were before these injuries occurred?! for example — I think its very possible they will NOT be going into tackles 100% for fear of a repeat injury. WORRYING!

Do you remember when Li Tie did his ankle in he came back a completely different player. By his own admission, he had no confidence to tackle any more. I'm not putting him in the same class as Arteta or Yak but it shows you how a pro footballer can lose all of their will to play.
